Vordell is national champ now so that gives him something to build on.

 

Prophet is a mixed bag. I have seen him in brawls where I thought he was pretty good, but I've never seen him in a straight match that was better than average. He got on my bad side this year by having a bad match with Kyle Matthews which is nearly impossible

I'll echo the love for Cesaro vs Kingston from the May 1st episode of Main Event. It's so great, I'd still probably rate it the best TV match this year, probably top 5 matches of the year in general.

People should go out of their way to watch the Dr. Tom match just to see how he puppets the other guy around through the matwork.

I poked and prodded people to watch their rematch last week and got no traction for some reason. Meltzer loved it too but didn't seem to acknowledge that it was a one man show with Cesaro:

 

Kingston and Cesaro tore it up on Main Event from the 9/10 Ottawa tapings in a ***3/4 match. These two have great chemistry together between coming up with new counters and just the whole flying vs. unique power dynamic. You watch matches like that and Cesaro seems the most underutilized wrestler on the roster. It’s not so much the wrestling skill but the crowd reaction to that skill. A good worker who doesn’t connect with the crowd being kept out of the top mix isn’t underutilized. But someone with no push getting crowds going to that degree based purely on his in-ring is.

I'm no Kingston fan by any stretch, and his offense looks pretty ropey, but it wasn't a total one-man show. It still sticks with me that Kofi remembered to sell his injured leg when making the winning cover, which is something that almost nobody else would bother doing. Cesaro's great for sure, and he's obviously going to drag anyone he's working with up a notch or two, but from memory it was one of Kofi's better performances too. That was less evident in their more recent Main Event match I thought, where it was more of a Cesaro show.

 

 

Edit: just noticed you were talking about the rematch, not the first one. So yeah, I agree it was more of a Cesaro match here and he could have been working most anyone. The pair do have real good chemistry with one another though.

I've seriously been out of the loop on Puro even though my boy(KENTA) finally got the GHC Heavyweight belt, which he should have had 5 years ago, but Morshima was Misawa's boy...so. Anyway they really screwed themselves thinking that the Terry Gordy wannabe would sell out buildings when they had someone marketable in KENTA doing jobs. Honestly I'd like to see NJPW buy out NOAH and have a big Tanahashi-KENTA series, could reallly breathe new life into Japan. On to my picks(disregarding the August deal, since it's now Nov):

 

1) CM Punk vs Brock Lesnar- ****3/4 Summerslam 2013. Lived up to my hype & more. Forget the Taker/Brock match, Punk needs to be featured at Mania to get his win back.

 

2) CM Punk vs The Undertaker- ****3/4 Wrestlemania 29. Taker's best match since v. HBK @ WM25 easily. Almost liked this more since it had a KENTA/Kobashi '06 vibe at the beginning. Again, they didn't overdo the false finishes like the Taker/H matches which I was not a huge fan of(27 was good, 28 was dumb). Perfect Wrestlemania match, especially since Brock/H and Cena/Rock bombed badly(I liked the former more myself).

 

3) John Cena vs. CM Punk- ****1/2 RAW 2/25/13. Best RAW match in years. To me, it's easily 2nd behind MITB '11 in their series. Yeah the Orndorff Piledriver adds one * to this, sue me.

 

4)KENTA vs. Naomichi Marafuji- ****1/2 7/07/13. Again, haven't seen the October Tanahashi title defense, but its on my top 5 Youtube "Watch Later" list. But these 2 are my favorite "prime" Puro guys, finally going for the big one. And just as always they clock in at ****+. Just my taste though.

 

5) John Cena vs Daniel Bryan- ****1/4 Summerslam 2013. Loved it, especially the ending. That was a *perfect* way to beat Cena clean. I probably need to rewatch it on it's own, because after Brock/Punk I was spent

 

6) Daniel Bryan vs. Antonio Cesaro- **** RAW 7/22/13. Was wanting this badly since they both showed up, and it delivered. Brutal Regal style mixed with some Indy-flying and WWE TV drama, just perfect. Plus it helped elevate Bryan to where he is.

 

That's all I got. Loved Hero/Regal & Generico/Cesaro from nXt but I haven't seen them in months, and thus couldn't give a real rating but they are top 15. I am dying to find the Rhodes'/Shield PPV & no dq RAW match but haven't yet. Also I haven't seen a PPV since Summerslam so I haven't seen an Orton/Bryan WWE title fight yet, but I'm pretty sure I'd like them despite overbooking. Hell I really enjoy WCW 2000 PPV's(mostly based around what if's with all that talent, so nothing phases me.

Nobody mentioned it yet I don't think so I will throw Ambrose/Taker from the Smackdown in London out there as a match worth revisiting, or visiting if you haven't yet.

On this note, I actually liked the following week's Ambrose vs Kane even more. Taker and Bryan had been taken out and Kane had this great "last stand" vibe to his performance, knowing he was doomed but just going down swinging and trying to take the whole Shield with him.

 

So to reiterate, Every Shield Match Ever needs to be on a list.
