Mad Dog
The following will be spoilers if you don't want to know the results of tonight's RoH show. James Gibson won the RoH Title. So they've done exactly what they did with Punk and after booking the title well they're now passing the belt around like a $2 hooker. I'm getting sick of the RoH grown talent getting completely shafted in favor of WWF guys. Matt Hardy also beat Homicide which further pissed me off. Resident Evil
I'm glad to see Gibson win the title. I always liked him as a wrestler.
Guest Dorian
Glad to see Gibson get the title. From what I heard he was having some pretty great matches. I think whoever beat Punk would've been a let done (even Daniels) so might as well go for the worst scenario and make it half decent.
goodhelmet
I see where Mad Dog is coming from. Colt Cabana is supposed to be Punk's last match and he is right there sticking with the company. I don't know if I would want Colt as my champion but i enjoyed him much more than Xavier, that's for sure.
Guest DylanWaco
They would have been better off puting the belt back on the widely hated Aries.
Coffey
I'm not seeing the problem. Gibson should be rewarded for his hardwork. This is actually good news to me. I don't think it shines a bad light on ROH. Who cares if Gibson is WWE bound again?
Guest Cam Chaos
I don't get why ROH is putting the belt on guys on the way out rather than putting over the people that will still be around in the future and have established reputations in the promotion. Plus as already noted, this is a repeat of Punk's win and is just to fuck around the smart fans that go to ROH by basically going "This belt is a prop to be passed around between WWE signings to make you worried it'll end up on WWE TV". Why would WWE signings want to have the belt anyway? they are on their way back to the big time, why would they want to fight for an indie belt? Guest Kilgore Trout
They would have been better off puting the belt back on the widely hated Aries.Widely hated? The live crowds love Aries. He was getting cheered even as a heel and while I haven't seen any of his post-face turn stuff yet I'm sure he's even more popular now. It also isn't a repeat of the Punk angle as Gibson is a face so they aren't doing the whole 'he could leave any day now thing.'
Mad Dog
I see where Mad Dog is coming from. Colt Cabana is supposed to be Punk's last match and he is right there sticking with the company. I don't know if I would want Colt as my champion but i enjoyed him much more than Xavier, that's for sure. Cabana would've made sense and it would've been a good end to Punk's run in the company. Then he can have 3 or 4 defenses before dropping it to someone like Homicide. Anything is better than constantly putting the belt on guys that are going out the door. I'd rather have it on a guy that I know will be there in six months than a guy who I know won't be there come October. Plus it's just a played out storyline. I was against doing it with Punk because I thought he should be putting over guys that are sticking around and I think the same thing now. It's a shame because I really wanted Gibson to get the belt before he went back to WWF. But RoH has full blown WCW syndrome now. Just look at the fact that one of RoH's top homegrown stars jobbed to Matt Hardy.
Guest Drake
I can't really see why this is such a huge deal. RoH has never really been about who the champion is or who's winning the matches, they've always pushed the quality of the matches more then anything. I honestly don't see why it should be such a huge deal who's winning as long as they still have that claim to fame (the great matches). That's what their core fan base wants to see. And to say that the RoH grown talent is getting shafted in favor of the WWE talent, to be fair most of the RoH talent is now being signed up by either WWE or TNA now so pretty much regardless of who they put the title on they won't really be an RoH star anymore... Guest Famous Mortimer
Aries is brilliant, in my humble opinion, and I was very happy with him as champion. This is 2005 and 2 year reigns work well at times but can't be the sole way they do things. Sometimes belts do get passed quite regularly.
Loss
I kept thinking that this was all going to lead to Bryan Danielson's return, and that he'd come back and defeat Punk for the title. I guess not.
