dawho5
This match was really different from most Shield matches. They did the run-through of different matchups with nobody getting any advantage right off the bat, then went to the double heat. The Bryan hot tag towards the end was electric. Kane taking out Ambrose and Reigns outside was probably the best work he's ever done. For storyline reasons as much as performance reasons. And the triple team finish on Rollins was poetic justice. I loved how they had built the Shield up so much as a unit that the win for Orton/Kane/Bryan seemed huge. And it put Bryan over quite a bit too, which was nice. supersonic
This wasn't quite up to par with the very best of the Shield's trios matches, but it was still good stuff with a magical moment in WWE history. In this one, the Shield never got a true advantage, failing to catch their groove as they were accustomed to doing. D-Bry's intensity set the groundwork, not allowing himself to turn into Ricky Morton. The finish came when Reigns attempted a spear but Kane moved out of the way, having the Tag Champion ram through a barricade. Kane then chokeslammed Dean Ambrose on top of Reigns, taking both out of the equation. That left Orton to deliver an Ace Crusher to Rollins, who then found himself locked in the LeBell Lock, and almost immediately tapped out from the back-to-back punishment. This got a fantastic reaction from the crowd, and Lilian Garcia acknowledging this as the Shield's first trios loss when announcing the winners made this even more meaningful. It was time for the Shield to show vulnerability as a stable, especially with Kane getting a US Title shot while Orton & D-Bry would be challenging for the Tag Titles against the trio that weekend. ***1/
ShittyLittleBoots
A great match, but even more of a great moment in time. The last few minutes with the action being super chaotic & the urgency being through the roof, the babyfaces systematically getting rid of The Shield & ultimately getting the victory, them reacting to that big W accordingly & Lilian Garcia's fantastic announcement of "...for the FIRST TIME EVER in a 6-man tag team contest, The Shield HAS been DEFEATED!" -- it's just goosebumps worthy stuff. The match layout is pretty different from the usual by The Shield lads too; it feels like they never get a full-on groove going, sure there's a couple of FIP segments, but they're all very short & not as organized n' tight as usually with them. Every time a member of the babyface team was in trouble, he tagged a fresh man in as fast as he could. It's some fantastic storytelling. As Michael Cole fantastically put it, this was not like every other night. ****
