soup23 Posted July 30, 2014 Report Posted July 30, 2014 Great promo by The Rock. He first denies tapping out which he did. Rock has gifts for the nation and they play this up perfectly. Henry/DLO/and Kama get rolex watches. Rock has what looks like a piece of artwork for Farooq. JR hypothesizes that it is some rare art. It ends up being a big photo of The Rock. Farooq is miffed at this gesture and throws the picture down.
stomperspc Posted August 7, 2014 Report Posted August 7, 2014 Rock was awesome here with his insincere apologies and his "gift that is not really a gift" for Farooq. Also thought the announcers did a good job in letting the angle play out on its own rather than narrating the obvious.
Loss Posted August 13, 2014 Author Report Posted August 13, 2014 Obviously a Jim Cornette angle, as this was copied directly from early 80s Memphis when the same thing happened with Cornette giving a picture of himself to Dutch Mantell. I miss the early heel version of The Rock.
PeteF3 Posted May 1, 2016 Report Posted May 1, 2016 Still a little weird in retrospect for Rock's promos not to be so catchphrase-centric and the catchphrases he does use ("The best damn Intercontinental champion there ever was...") being different from normal. This is a hilarious angle where Rock gives Kama, D'Lo, and Mark Henry Rolexes and Faarooq a portrait of himself, much to Faarooq's bemusement.
TravJ1979 Posted June 13, 2016 Report Posted June 13, 2016 There was a version of this in Memphis around '88 I think with the Stud Stable and Fuller giving Brickhouse a watermelon or something racial like that. The Rock is #2 in WWF on the mic at this point. Not even close.
