Loss
Talk about it here.
Loss
Poor Michael Cole is losing his voice, but Jim Ross has had his Bells Palsy attack by this point and was off of TV. Ross is actually at ringside with Lawler, showing that the commentary was done in post-production. Typical hot WWF TV main event of time that isn't really good but cuts a quick pace and keeps the crowd alive. The Corporation runs in for the DQ and handcuffs Foley to the ring ropes while Undertaker beats Austin up in the crowd. The Corporation attacks Rock while Undertaker's druids place Austin on a symbol and elevate him above the Titantron on his "symbol". This stuff is such garbage. The Undertaker is awful during this time. There is a pre-recorded Undertaker soundbyte promising to bury Austin alive, which is incredibly hokey. Why does no one rip Undertaker to shreds over this stuff?
Zenjo
The Undertaker crucifies Austin. We fans are being made to pay for our sins. I think this shows a progression for the cartoon version of the Undertaker being corrupted during the Attitude Era. That's the most generous way I can put it. tim
Ending is terrible. This feud blows. Since it's know that Austin vetoed a lot of stuff he didn't like, if something like this made it on TV imagine what got left out.
soup23
Shoddy angle for a dreadful feud. This is legit wrestlecrap stuff and an awful build. I still say we havent found the lows of the funeral home stint but I can't see how anyone would have been pumped for the match based on what we have seen. If these four were motivated and in the right frame of mind, they probably could have had a fun traditional tag match. (*1/4)
PeteF3
Cole's voice is shot, forcing Lawler to carry this on commentary and reducing him to the empty corporate talking-point machine he is today ("Mankind, the most unpredictable superstar in the World Wrestling Federation..."). This match isn't really as heated as you might expect for something so star-studded, though it's not terrible or anything. Mankind gets handcuffed to the rope and beaten down by Rock, Shamrock, and Boss Man, and Austin gets crucified, which sparked a fairly big online controversy at the time. Yeah, this blows, and it's mind-numbing that Undertaker gets a free pass for so much bullshit through the years. Would something have been wrong with just shoving Austin in a body bag? I can't wait for this feud to be over.
Migs
It sounded like JR was straight up writing King's lines at the end there. Real terrible, although I like Austin still making threats while on the "symbol."
