Loss
Vince announces that he plans to live up to his word not to get involved in WWF business anymore and forfeits the title. Then he declares - as the McMahon family spokesperson, in a nice bit of attention to detail - that the winner of the six-pack challenge at Unforgiven will be the new champion. This brings out Austin, who says as much as he still hates his guts, this place hasn't been the same without him. Austin proposes that he take Vince's place in the title match. Vince claims he doesn't have the authority to let that happen. Now, HHH is out with yet another new look. He claims the two of them stole his gold like thieves in the night. HHH demands the title back or he will send one of his family members out of the building tonight on a stretcher. Shane interrupts to put HHH in his place to make HHH/Chyna vs Vince/Shane tonight, which seems to surprise Vince. Austin tells Vince to man up and take his company back. Vince says he'd love to come back, but he can't. Austin points to the famed Vince Russo Fine Print in the original contract, which says Austin had the power to reinstate Vince. Now that's a stretch. Austin agrees to do it if Vince will give him a title shot and Vince agrees to it, but says it will happen the following night on RAW. HHH will take the sixth spot at Unforgiven and Austin will be the Special Enforcer. Good segment.
Tim Evans
Something about Austin/Vince being cordial to each other is just wrong. Nice segment all around between Vince's facial expressions, HHH going nuts and the censors trying to get Austin's language and it not working. soup23
It is kind of interesting that prior to WM 17, Austin and Vince did have these little extended moments of being on the same page. This was a good opening segment that didn't overstay its welcome and got a lot across heading into Unforgiven even if they fine print reinstatement of Vince was pretty paper thin. PeteF3
Fun segment that mercifully ends the Vince title reign before it really begins. A lot of moving parts but everything gets put over properly, since we have a large array of performers on the same page who all know how to get Russo's bullshit over. Vince getting reinstated came a little too easily and the "Only the person you're facing can reinstate you" clause is a crutch they'd lean on again in years to come, but the crowd was clearly happy to have him back. Superstar Sleeze
Austin & McMahon is just gold no matter the capacity! I like the idea of Austin and McMahon friendly towards each other as the natural progression of the rivalry. HHH is pissed that McMahon has won the title. McMahon wants to relinquish the title and it will be up for grabs in the Six Pack challenge. Shane wants to face HHH & Chyna with his daddy. Good father/son bonding. Austin reinstates Vince! Vince puts HHH in the Six Pack Challenge as punishment. Great segment!
