BigBadMick
Sting came before the time when everyone started crying in the ring. A better, simpler time. Nicely put.
KrisZ
MKJ just put this up For those of you wondering if Sting will appear on Monday Night Raw tonight, I am told the plan was for him to only appear on the PPV this week. We have heard from one reader who said he saw Sting at the airport in St. Louis this AM as he was heading for his own flight back to California, so it does not appear WWE made a last second change to plans. Obviously everyone is asking if Sting is going to wrestle Triple H. As I noted in the Elite section over the weekend, the expectation is that Sting will wrestle Undertaker at Wrestlemania 31, but there is that little show called The Royal Rumble coming up, so we shall see. After last night's moment, WWE would be crazy to pass up Sting vs. Hunter as well. As I wrote yesterday in the Elite section, WWE flew Sting to Kansas City Sunday AM to avoid fans seeing him and then kept him under wraps for as long as possible backstage. At one point, there were plans for him to simply do a cameo earlier in the PPV after his Titantron video played but the creative changed and he was used in the main event. One person I spoke to believed they switched him with Randy Orton for the main to "mess with the Internet" since there was so much talk about Sting the last 48 hours. Sting was brought in last night for several reasons. One, the company wanted a big surprise to show "anything can happen" on the WWE Network as a way to entice fans to remain subscribers if they were using the free month. Two, now that the next-generation console version of WWE 2K15 were out, it was smart synergy to have Sting at the show to help promote the game, since a big part of it's marketing is built around Sting. Three, all sides knew that with Sting hitting the 30th anniversary of his career (and being 55), it was now or never if they were going to ever do anything. This is going to be Sting's last run, so if you are a fan of his, enjoy it, because this will be it.
goc
I'm glad they went with a much worse booking choice that had no real long term plan behind it rather than using Randy Orton just so they could "mess with the internet"
Russellmania
I'm glad they went with a much worse booking choice that had no real long term plan behind it rather than using Randy Orton just so they could "mess with the internet" seriously, what a stupid fucking company
Matt D
For what they were trying to do, get attention from people who don't necessarily follow the product or don't care enough to normally buy the network but might check it out for free, many of them lapsed fans, what would work better? A logical payoff they could do with Randy Orton or unveiling Sting in a key moment? This doesn't feel like a hugely stupid moment to me. Maybe if it was Bryan or even Reigns they had waiting in the wings. Or someone with a different crossover appeal like Mysterio on a last run, but we're talking about Randy Orton here. KrisZ
Lots of real sports media types who used to watch wrestling have tweeted a lot over the 16 hours about Sting coming to WWE buzzing about what is coming next so it has gotten the attention they wanted but tonight's RAW rating could definitely tell a story which is hilarious since Sting isn't going to be there allegedly. pol
Is there any reason to believe Sting gives, or should give, one shit about his 'legacy'? Isn't that kind of thing typically called being a mark for yourself?
Memphis Mark
Sting does not care about his legacy. All he cares about is money. Which does not make him a bad guy , I kinda like money , too. His guy made $ 500, 000 per year with TNA for years . Sting vitually did nothing to help TNA . The guy only worked 2 or 3 days per month . No house shows for the Stinger .When Sting milked Viacom / Panda for every dime he could get , he moved on to Crazy Vince and company. The guy knows how to look out for number one. This won't work long term . Sting is too old and beat up to work. Eventually , Vince will try to force Sting into angles that offend his religious beliefs, and the Stinger will walk. However he will pad his retirement fund some more before the end. I cannnot balme Sting , if people are stupid enough to give a 55 year old man that cannot wrestle anymore millions , he has to take the money . Fantastic
After last year's performance, I don't know how people can want to see Taker wrestle. The guy has 1 FULL YEAR to recover from any injuires, etc. and he still came in looking/moving like an old man. Taker should just fade out. I heard he didn't finalize the decision to come back for last year's Wrestlemania until near the Rumble time. The match with Brock seemed like a real last minute sort of thing. I get the impression that Taker underwent some surgery in mid 2013, fell out of shape during his recovery, and then rushed himself into ring shape when the opportunity to face Brock at Mania came to him. He looked OK at Wrestlemania XXVIII, despite visibly ageing and having lost a noticeable amount of mass. Prior to this event during his hiatus, he and Michelle McCool had a child together. This pretty much gives you the reason for his change in appearance. He looked slightly worse a year later, and was carried through that match again Punk in places, he was definitely a lot slower too. But last year he just looked like shit, you could tell he rushed himself back. In hindsight, the match against Lesnar was a mistake for Undertaker. Lesnar, unless you have the resistance and healing factors of John Cena, or the toughness of CM Punk, is a guy you need time to prepare for. Hell, even Triple H trained extensively with Joe DeFranco to prepare him for his matches against Brock Lesnar. I seem to recall an interview with DeFranco where he said that he designed a program that lasted a few weeks to train Hunter specifically for one spot in the match! (where he lifted Lesnar up whilst locked in the Kimura) All that asides, I want Taker to get a fitting final match for all he's given the WWE over the years. He's been pretty physically active in the past few months (see Michelle McCool's instagram), so that's somewhat reassuring. If he takes his time (maybe even skips this Mania?) and with a little bit of magic and the right opponent, he could easily have one last great match. pol
Did everyone forget the story that Taker got concussed 5 minutes into his match with Brock? I have no clue if he can still go or not, but it seems unfair to use that match alone as basis for making that judgement.
The Chief
He's been wrestling one or two matches a year for a few years now. This isn't some new development. All reports say that even that takes some effort. He did have the perfect story to go out on. He finally lost. 21 and 1. What do you do after that? People need to let it go. Yeah, we ALL know that the Authority storyline wasn't put to bed just last night. There's opportunities for Orton to make a return where he screws them over, but they won't have the blunt force of Sting's debut, so you can save it for a RAW episode or TLC. The "screw with the smarks" mentality is idiotic, but the Sting debut obviously has more value than an Orton return. You might as well go all-in with it. Matt D
Hell, I'm me and outside of the Jeff Hardy match I hadn't seen any of his TNA run at all until I saw the Christian tag two or three weeks ago. Not any promos, not any matches.
