Really underwater super heavyweight. Always at least bserviceable during his NJPW career, but I though he really put it ask together in the early 2000s. That was when his psychology seemed the best and most refined. Lots of fun "immovable object" spots.

He was a lot of fun and solid in the ring. Looks like someone took a keg and put a singlet on it. His matches were enjoyable and he had a good run in NJPW and some decent stuff in WCW. Ive seen very little of his AWA stuff. Id always be down to watch a Scott Norton match.

One of those guys I'd love to go back and reexplore, but I don't even know where to begin. I remember watching a couple random matches of his about 18 months ago or so and thinking he came off really sharp in them. Could be a fun WCW tv match worker at times, which goes farther with me than it probably does with most people. Still unless someone is rattling off a big list of go too matches, I can't see him coming near my top 100.

Only saw his WCW run. He got turn off the TV heat with me for how selfish he seemed to be in the ring. Now I get the whole "big star in Japan so he couldn't look weak in the US" but all I saw was this nobody who wouldn't sell.

 

I guess I'll watch some of his Japan stuff.

Anybody got some Norton they can recommend? Just saw a Hashimoto match that was solid.

I really dig his stuff against Ernest Miller in 99 WCW. His stuff with John Nord against The Destruction Crew in the AWA might be good.

I've been a Scott Norton fan ever since I saw him hit the hardest clothesline I had yet seen during his short-lived 1993 WCW run. Norton always came off as a total badass and I may be the world's biggest (only?) Fire & Ice mark. I'll go on a little Norton binge every few months. Some enjoyable Norton matches from those recent binges include....

 

Norton vs. Giant Fall Brawl '97. Fun hossfest with a red hot crowd and a great finishing sequence from the Giant.

 

I'm a sucker for the Steiners vs. Fire & Ice series. They squared off a bunch of times in 1996 WCW, Most of them are fun in a Steiners vs. Vader & Hughes sort of way since Steiners throwing big dudes around always works for me.

 

I also get a kick out of Norton no selling cruiserweights and killing them dead with hurty looking offense. Your mileage may vary.

Sadly, the Norton/Ice Train matches I watched didn't live up to my fond memories.

I'd stick to Japan. Not sure you'll find anything of value domestically, though it'll at least be quick.

My new favourite wrestler, more so then Earthquake.

Just a tremendous bad ass wrestler who will destroy fools with great offense. Something I learned is he is a tremendous seller too and works great underneath. Every G1 he has a classic too, including 91 vs Vader and 97 vs Muta.

I've watched a lot more and Norton is so fucking under rated. He may be the best smart working big gaijin ever. His timing of cut offs is unreal. His power offense is a thing of beauty, no moves that don't make sense for his size.

He's like wrestling a big tree that hits back and it's awesome.

His matches with Muta at the 97 GI Climax and from February 3, 1995 are both top 100 matches of all time too.
