kingliam Posted February 27, 2016 Report Posted February 27, 2016 A question I've been mulling over in my head recently - a lot has always been made of Flair's schedule as NWA champion, and his ability to make people appear to be viable contenders no matter who they were. I was wondering in general how many of his time limit draws actually made it to tape, considering I've never seen any at all, and I'm assuming the broadway finish was one that got used more than once.
PhilTLL Posted February 27, 2016 Report Posted February 27, 2016 Flair/Kerry from Hawaii is a good one. The '84 "Boogie Jam" match with Steamboat is one, but I haven't actually seen it yet.
Loss Posted February 27, 2016 Report Posted February 27, 2016 Brody 2/11/83 in St. Louis Jumbo 6/8/83 in All Japan Steamboat 3/17/84 in Mid Atlantic Reed 8/10/85 in Mid South
Jingus Posted February 27, 2016 Report Posted February 27, 2016 There's the iron man match with Bret from a house show in '93. And if we're counting "more than 50 minutes" as a broadway, then the Clash match with Steamboat counts too. I'd assume that the vast majority of hour draws were at house shows, and thus unlikely to be taped. Especially considering how damn bulky and unwieldy the video cameras of the day were, and that many of them didn't even have the battery power to keep running for an hour straight without being plugged in.
Tabe Posted February 29, 2016 Report Posted February 29, 2016 There's one with Ricky Morton that made tape.
jushin muta liger Posted February 29, 2016 Report Posted February 29, 2016 There's one with Ricky Morton that made tape. When did Flair and Morton go an hour?
shoe Posted February 29, 2016 Report Posted February 29, 2016 It's a handheld that shows about 35-40 minutes of one.
Loss Posted February 29, 2016 Report Posted February 29, 2016 They had something like 9 broadways in 12 days or something insane like that. But yeah, on the NWA handhelds, 35 minutes of one of them made tape.
Rah Posted February 29, 2016 Report Posted February 29, 2016 There's one with Ricky Morton that made tape. When did Flair and Morton go an hour? I've not seen the match in question (though I believe it's this one) but this is from Flair's book In 1987, I wrestled Ricky Morton in eleven one-hour draws in nine days.
Tabe Posted March 4, 2016 Report Posted March 4, 2016 Yep, that's the match. GREAT match. Near as I can tell, Flair didn't wrestle Morton at all in 1987, let alone 11 draws in 9 days. They wrestled a bunch of times in 1986 but no stretch of draws like that in 86 either.
