WWF Travel Schedule, mid-80s

From Between the Sheets #33 thread.

Me - 'Listened to the first 15 minutes or so and I've got to admit to be fascinated by the incredible travel schedule maintained in the mid-80s in WWF. When did it really ramp up and when did it settle into a more regular touring circuit?'

Kris - 'It started ramping up hard in 1985....it didn't really settle down until late 1987 or so'

Could we flesh this out a bit? How did it settle down? Better organisation? Less opposition to squash throughout the country?

I'm interested too in how some maintained a better standard of work than others along the way, at least on televised footage we have.

Better organisation, I would think. It wasn't the dates so much as the geography of it. WWF used to be a NY-centric territory; Vince then declared war on AWA, and tried to open up L.A and I think S.A, which were dead, using Hogan. He needed to tour those places as many times, so the flights and the travel used to be brutal.

By 1987, things had settled down, so they could afford to be more reasonable about it.

But I don't think they got into a more regional touring schedule (i.e. fly to Detroit and do cities in that range for a few days, fly back out of Detroit) until sometime in 1991. So the settling down in '87 was simply somewhat fewer shows? Fewer double shots?

I made a thread once just going through DiBiase's one week travel schedule, but cannot for the life of me find it. It was an interesting look at how much those guys criss-crossed the country.

Yeah, now that you mention it, didn't you once get into it with jdw about Vince's expansion? What thread was that - bound to be something useful in there.

In 1987 didn't they do something where they went to Detroit to film an SNME a month or so before WrestleMania III, toured some more, then went back to the Detroit area for WrestleMania? Sek mentioned something about it somewhere.

It was the SNME where Andre won a battle royal and bloodied Lanny Poffo.

Hey, there was a period I could have said the sky is blue and he'd have found reasons why it was in fact yellow. It could be ANY thread, lol.

I think this might be the thread you're looking for. I remember reading theough it years ago, simultaneously thinking this is the best forum for wrestling discussion I've ever seen and that I'm thoroughly under-qualified to add to these types of conversations. Kris put in a ton of work here:
