Just an update on the show as I'm almost done writing it (will be finished either tonight or tomorrow.) Day 1 will be posted around Saturday morning or during the lunch hour.

As you'll see, I loosely based the writing style on the Paul Boesch tag team tournament that was posted a while ago since there are many many matches to cover for the 3-day tournament. Many of you have requested to feature the tournament on your weekly TV so you'll be able to take whatever parts suiting you for your territory. If, for some reason, you wish to add a bit more to those matches for your weekly TV (ex: an extended highlight of particular matches), feel free to add your touch to those particular highlights - as long as the finish remains unedited, of course! ^_^

Also, I'll get in touch with some of you guys in regards to the tournament because there are many surprises ahead and I wanna make sure a few things are OK with you. I should contact you before Saturday morning about that.

Hope you'll enjoy it! ;)

Johnny Rougeau Memorial Cup Night 1

August 27th, 1984

Montreal Forum

First Round Matches – Each match has a 15-minute time limit

Match #1

“Hacksaw” Butch Reed (USWA) vs Nikolai Volkoff (Mid-Atlantic)

In the opener, Guy Hauray explains that Nikolai Volkoff replaces Harley Race, who has left the Mid-Atlantic territory to go to the USWA. 2 rough and tough individuals scratching and clawing their way and exchanging the momentum with each other. In the very last moments of the match, Butch Reed hits Nikolai Volkoff with the shortarm clothesline and makes the cover but the time limit expires! Right off the bat, our first surprise as both men are eliminated from the tournament. Butch Reed takes the mic and says this is bullshit and he had this match won. Reed says he’s not leaving the ring until the match is restarted. However, out comes International TV Champion Gino Brito from Lutte Internationale and says that he won’t let someone like Reed ruin the tournament for an ego trip. Brito says that if Reed wants to step into the ring again in Montreal, all he has to do is to stick around and face him on August 29th and he’ll put the International TV Championship on the line against him. Butch Reed accepts and says that he’s bringing the International TV Championship back with him and he’s gonna hand it over to Fritz Von Erich in Texas.

Time Limit Draw – both Butch Reed & Nikolai Volkoff are eliminated

*CONFIRMED FOR AUGUST 29TH*

International TV Championship

Gino Brito © vs “Hacksaw” Butch Reed (USWA)

Match #2

Ricky Morton (Memphis) vs Randy “Macho Man” Savage (w/Miss Elizabeth) (WWF)

A complete contrast from the opening match with much more high flying & scientific wrestling. Macho Man is ready to win at any costs and doesn’t hesitate to use more aggressive and somewhat questionable tactics to win. However, as Savage attempts an atomic drop, Morton flips behind Savage and pins Savage with the O’Connor Roll at 11:56.

Winner: Ricky Morton (11:56) – advances to 2nd round

Match #3

Al Perez (AWA) vs Tom Pritchard (w/Sunshine) (SMW)

Al Perez obviously is the underdog in this match, despite gaining a lot of momentum in the AWA recently, since he’s facing the current Smokey Mountain Wrestling Heavyweight Champion Tom Pritchard. Guy Hauray mentions how Al Perez must be careful of Sunshine’s actions at ringside. During the match, Pritchard reverses an irish whip and Al Perez almost collides with referee Luigi Macera. Pritchard then dropkicks Perez and he runs into the referee. Macera is momentarily dazed and Sunshine throws in the ring her loaded purse to Tom Pritchard. Pritchard is about to hit Perez but he kicks him in the gut and he drops the purse. Pritchard goes down and Al Perez picks up the purse. However, bad timing as referee Luigi Macera recovers and spots Perez with the smoking gun in his hands. Referee calls for the bell and Tom Pritchard is awarded the match by disqualification! Pritchard & Sunshine quickly flee the scene while celebrating their devious victory!

Winner: Tom Pritchard by DQ (4:51) – advances to 2nd round

Match #4

Eric Embry (Independent) vs Terry Gordy (USWA)

Guy Hauray mentions during the match how unusual it feels to see Terry Gordy without his Fabulous Freebirds cohorts but word was that Terry Gordy wanted to go at it alone for the tournament. Eric Embry gave it a nice effort but Bam Bam Gordy was too dominant. Gordy gets the win at 5:19 with the High Angle Belly-to-Back Suplex.

Winner: Terry Gordy (5:19) – advances to 2nd round

Match #5

Tommy Lane (SMW) vs Raymond Rougeau (Lutte Internationale)

Of course, the crowd was definitely behind Raymond Rougeau in this one, fighting in the tournament named in his uncle’s honour. Action flies by quickly and Ray pummels Lane in the corner with punches. However, Lane trips Ray and pins him for the upset victory while using his feet in the ropes for leverage at 2:15. The crowd is in complete shock as Tommy Lane celebrates his victory while Raymond Rougeau argues with the referee, to no avail.

Winner: Tommy Lane (2:15) – advances to 2nd round

Match #6

Tito Santana (AWA) vs Superstar Billy Graham (Mid-Atlantic)

The crowd seems to be solidly behind Tito Santana in this one. It is clear that Superstar is trying to overmatch Santana with his power and he’s being successful for most of the match. We’re in the final moments of the match and we could very well be headed to another time limit draw. But with less than 30 seconds to go, Tito Santana hits Superstar with his flying forearm smash and pins him at 14:32 to advance!

Winner: Tito Santana (14:32) – advances to 2nd round

Match #7

Bret Hart (w/Jimmy Hart) (WWF) vs Don Muraco (AWA)

A similar situation like the previous match with the speed of Bret Hart takes on the strength of Don Muraco. One would think that Jimmy Hart would’ve been a distraction at ringside but he proved to be a non-factor as Bret Hart gets the win on Don Muraco at 4:27 after a 2nd rope clothesline.

Winner: Bret Hart (4:27) – advances to 2nd round

Match #8

Buddy Landell (w/Johnny V)(Memphis) vs Jacques Rougeau (Lutte Internationale)

Just like for his brother earlier in the night, the fans are solidly behind Jacques Rougeau and are hoping for him to be dealt a better hand than Raymond but he shockingly suffers the same fate than Raymond. In fact, the end comes at 1:51 when Buddy Landell also uses the ropes after a failed sunset flip attempt from Jacques and Landell holds the ropes to get the victory. The crowd is more incensed than ever as BOTH Rougeaus have lost in dramatic fashion very early and very quickly. Guy Hauray & Édouard Carpentier wonder if the recent actions of Cowboy Bob Orton & Dirty Dick Slater are still in the back of their mind...

Winner: Buddy Landell (1:51) – advances to 2nd round

Match #9

Barry Windham (Mid-Atlantic) vs Dick Slater (w/Jimmy Hart) (WWF)

Jacques Rougeau is still in the aisle when Dick Slater walks out for the match and Slater is taunting Jacques about his quick loss. Then, Barry Windham is coming out and he invites Jacques Rougeau to stay at ringside for the match. Dick Slater is none too happy about that and as the bell rings, all he can do is look at Jacques Rougeau and yell at him. They get into a heated argument and eventually, Dick Slater turns around and is met with Barry Windham’s Lariat. Windham gets a quick victory at 1:49 to advance. Jacques high-fives Barry Windham and they leave together while Dick Slater throws a temper tantrum in the ring!

Winner: Barry Windham (1:49) – advances to 2nd round

Match #10

Dusty Rhodes (USWA) vs Austin Idol (w/Johnny V) (Memphis)

Unsurprisingly, the crowd is solidly behind The American Dream in this one. Some really solid exchanges between both men and the match could go either way. At some point, Austin Idol even was able to lock in his patented Las Vegas Lock on Dusty but the Dream was able to make it to the ropes. Dusty is able to make a comeback in the match and gets the victory at 10:50 with his Bionic Elbow on Idol.

Winner: Dusty Rhodes (10:50) – advances to 2nd round

Match #11

George Steele (w/Richard Charland) (Lutte Internationale) vs Kerry Von Erich (USWA)

Guy Hauray & Édouard Carpentier wonder if George Steele will be able to save face for Lutte Internationale, who is 0-for-2 thus far in the tournament. They also question if Richard Charland will get involved in the match somehow. Kerry Von Erich quickly answers this question early in the match as he thwarts a Charland interference by throwing a discus punch at him, knocking him out for the remainder of the match. However, a discus punch wouldn’t save Kerry in this one as George would duck a discus punch from Kerry and hit him with his hammerlock slam to secure the victory at 7:45 and advance in the tournament.

Winner: George Steele (7:45) – advances to 2nd round

Match #12

Larry Zbyszko (Mid-Atlantic) vs Jay Youngblood (Independent)

Another case of a singles veteran against a tag team specialist in this first round. Jay Youngblood’s quickness proves to be a problem for the Living Legend and Zbyszko has to resort to dirty tactics to get the victory. At one point, Zbyszko take off the protecting pad from the top turnbuckle and while the referee has his back turned to put the pad back on, Zbyszko uses a roll of coins to nail Jay Youngblood with it. Zbyszko covers Youngblood and gets the victory at 6:07.

Winner: Larry Zbyszko (6:07) – advances to 2nd round

Match #13

Rick Martel (Lutte Internationale) vs “Hangman” Bobby Jaggers (Independent)

Rick Martel gets by far the biggest ovation of the night. Martel seems to be extra motivated, following the sudden elimination of his friends, the Rougeau Brothers. Martel makes quick work out of Bobby Jaggers by submitting him to the Boston Crab at 4:36.

Winner: Rick Martel (4:36) – advances to 2nd round

Match #14

Brett Wayne Sawyer (Independent) vs Ron Garvin (AWA)

It was up to Brett Wayne Sawyer to save the honor of the former Portland representatives in this match vs Ron Garvin. A very hard-hitting match as both men are refusing to give any chance to the other to get the victory. We’re getting closer to the time limit and Ron Garvin is about to lock in the Figure Four on Sawyer but Sawyer blocks him and shoves him in the corner. Sawyer picks up the win with a shoulderbreaker at 13:43 to advance.

Winner: Brett Wayne Sawyer (13:43) – advances to 2nd round

Match #15

Bob Orton (w/Jimmy Hart)(WWF) vs The Flame (Smokey Mountain Wrestling)

Bob Orton wanted to avoid the same fate than his partner did at all cost and didn’t waste any time going to work on The Flame. While The Flame was able to have several moments of offense in the match, Bob Orton was able to secure the victory at 8:06 with a piledriver.

Winner: Bob Orton (8:06) – advances to 2nd round

Match #16

Robert Gibson (Memphis) vs Mike Davis (Smokey Mountain Wrestling)

In the final match of the 1st round and of the night, 2 tag team specialists in Robert Gibson and Mike Davis fought in hopes to accomplish an interesting feat in having both members of a tag team advancing in the tournament. Mike Davis was on a mission and got the advantage early in the match but Robert Gibson wouldn’t be denied and used his quickness to allow himself to advance in Round 2. Gibson finished the match with a top rope sunset flip to get the victory at 5:20.

Winner: Robert Gibson (5:20) – advances to 2nd round

Round 2 matchups for August 28th

August 28th, 1984

Johnny Rougeau Memorial Cup Night 2

Montreal Forum

2nd round matches have a 20-minute time limit

To kickoff the show, it was announced that since the match between Hacksaw Butch Reed and Nikolai Volkoff went to a time limit draw last night, Ricky Morton would get a bye and be facing the winner of the opening match in the quarter-finals

Match #1

Tom Pritchard (w/Sunshine) (SMW) vs Terry Gordy (USWA)

As good as the Smokey Mountain Wrestling Heavyweight Champion is, Tom Pritchard would need anything and everything, including every Sunshine dirty tactic imaginable in order to defeat the Fabulous Freebirds’ representative. Tom Pritchard once again tried to resort to Sunshine’s loaded purse but the referee caught Sunshine red-handed and threw her out of the arena. A desperate Pritchard then rapidly fell prey to Terry Gordy as he pinned Pritchard with his High Angle Belly-to-Back Suplex at 6:35 to advance to the quarter-finals

Winner: Terry Gordy (6:35) – advances to quarter-finals

Match #2

Tommy Lane (SMW) vs Tito Santana (AWA)

Many people were hoping to see Raymond Rougeau in lieu of Tommy Lane in this match but this one definitely played out to Tito Santana’s advantage as the crowd was firmly behind him for this match. Lane thought at one point that he had scored the victory over Tito Santana after holding the tights but Tito Santana had kicked out anyway. Tito then used Lane’s anger to his advantage as he picked up the win at 4:38 with his Flying Forearm Smash.

Winner: Tito Santana (4:38) – advances to quarter-finals

Match #3

Bret Hart (w/Jimmy Hart) (WWF) vs Buddy Landell (w/Johnny V) (Memphis)

This probably was the best match of the night as the two mat technicians wrestled a clinic in front of the Montreal Forum faithful. One moment, Bret’s speed & mat savvy gave him the upper hand and the other, it was Buddy Landell’s in-ring experience that gave him the momentum. Bret got the nearfall after a beautiful 2nd rope elbow drop but tried it one time too many, allowing Landell to dodge the 2nd time. Landell got the chance to put Bret away with the Figure Four Leglock but Hart grabbed the rope and broke the submission. At the end of the match, Bret went for the flying clothesline and the pin but Johnny V climbed on the apron to distract the referee. Johnny V and Jimmy Hart got into it at ringside, distracting both the referee Adrien Desbois and Buddy Landell. Bret took Jimmy’s megaphone and clocked Landell with him, tossing the smoking gun out of the ring and pinning Landell at 15:00 to advance.

Winner: Bret Hart (15:00) – advances to quarter-finals

Match #4

Barry Windham (Mid-Atlantic) vs Dusty Rhodes (USWA)

If the preceding match was the best match of the night, this one was probably the most anticipated match of this 2nd round. Both men shook hands before the bell rings and the crowd is literally split 50/50 between both wrestlers. Windham showed that his deceptive agility could be enough to lead him to victory but that wasn’t without counting Dusty Rhodes’ immense heart, which gave for a tremendous spectacle for the fans at the Montreal Forum. But both men also showed a lot of pride and desire to win, which ironically lead to the end of the match as well. Windham & Dusty got into a furious exchange in the corner and in the heat of the moment, both men shoved referee Luigi Macera twice, giving him no choice but to disqualify both men, much to the dismay of the fans in attendance. Macera officially called off the match at 13:47

Both Barry Windham & Dusty Rhodes are disqualified & are eliminated from the tournament

After voicing their displeasure of the referee’s decision, Barry Windham & Dusty Rhodes shook hands and cut a promo talking about how they want to come back next year and do better. Barry Windham says that he’ll watch the rest of the tournament with interest, just like the American Dream and they hope the right man will win the tournament. Both leave under a big round of applause.

Match #5

George “The Animal” Steele (w/Richard “Le Magnifique” Charland) (Lutte Internationale) vs Larry Zbyszko (Mid-Atlantic)

As opposed to the previous match, none of these men are exactly fan favourites but it didn’t take away from the crowd being invested in this match as well, given that a Lutte Internationale representative was involved in it. 2 clashes of styles as Larry Zbyszko’s scientific style met George Steele’s more brutish style. Zbyszko’s dirty tricks were ineffective in this one since Richard Charland could make sure they would be rendered useless. Once again, Steele picks up the victory with his hammerlock slam at 8:03 to advance in the tournament.

Winner: George “The Animal” Steele (8:03) – advances to quarterfinals

Match #6

Rick Martel (Lutte Internationale) vs Brett Wayne Sawyer (Independent)

Most people assume that because he was a relative unknown to them, Brett Wayne Sawyer would be easy pickings for the crowd favourite Martel but it proved to be the complete opposite. If Bret Hart vs Buddy Landell was the most solid technical match of the night, this one was the most intense as Brett Wayne Sawyer pushed Martel back to his very limits. Several nearfall exchanges as the time limit was dwindling by. Sawyer thought he had the match won with a powerslam at the 17th minute but Martel miraculously kicked out. Martel finally gets the victory with 54 seconds to go before the time limit as he made Sawyer tap out the Boston Crab.

Winner: Rick Martel (19:06) – advances to the quarterfinals

Match #7

Bob Orton (w/Jimmy Hart) (WWF) vs Robert Gibson (Memphis)

In the final match of the night, Robert Gibson was looking to join his Rock N’ Roll Express tag team partner, Ricky Morton in the quarter-finals but things didn’t go exactly as planned as Orton jumped on Gibson as soon as the bell rang. Orton worked early on Gibson’s neck and finished him off rather quickly with the piledriver to get the win at 2:29 and to advance in the tournament.

Winner: Bob Orton (2:29) – advances to the quarterfinals

August 29th, 1984

Johnny Rougeau Memorial Cup Night 3

Montreal Forum

Quarterfinals, semifinals & finals all have 30-minute time limit. Finals will go into sudden death if necessary.

Match #1

Ricky Morton (Memphis) vs Terry Gordy (USWA)

It was a well-rested Ricky Morton who showed up for his quarterfinals match since he had a bye in the 2nd round. And he would need every ounce of energy he had against Terry Gordy, who had steamrolled in the competition thus far. While Morton was able to get the early advantage with his quickness, one mistake was all Gordy needed to regain the upper hand. Terry Gordy then finished up Morton with a shoulderbreaker at 5:06

Winner: Terry Gordy (5:06) – advances to semifinals

Match #2

Tito Santana (AWA) vs Bret Hart (w/Jimmy Hart) (WWF)

An excellent battle was to be anticipated in this match and it lived up to the hype. Both men’s cardio were definitely put to the test but no worries as Santana & Bret are arguably 2 of the fittest men in pro wrestling. They treated the fans to a wrestling clinic throughout the duration of their match. Jimmy Hart tried to interfere towards the end of the match but Tito nailed him with the Flying Forearm Smash and put him out of commission for the remainder of the match. Tito nailed Bret with the Flying Forearm Smash for the nearfall. Then, Bret was able to hit Tito with the 2nd rope flying clothesline and only got a 2 count. Multiple rollups and small packages exchanged in the final moments. Tito finally nailed Bret with a second Flying Forearm Smash but couldn’t get the 3 count before the time limit expires! Unfortunately, the match is a draw but the audience gave both men a well-deserved standing ovation on their way out.

Time limit draw – both Tito Santana & Bret Hart are eliminated

Match #3

Rick Martel (Lutte Internationale) vs Bob Orton (w/Jimmy Hart) (WWF)

Like his previous 2nd round match, Bob Orton jumped on Rick Martel from the start to gain an early advantage. However, Rick Martel fought back quickly and got the advantage. Martel is able to hit his Slingshot Splash early but here comes International Heavyweight Champion Greg Valentine to interfere! Referee calls for the bell at 2:41 and Rick Martel advances to the semifinals.

Winner: Rick Martel (2:41) – advances to semifinals

Greg Valentine & Bob Orton team up on Rick Martel as they focus on Martel’s ankle. They stomp him while Jimmy Hart go gets a chair. Valentine positions the ankle to be broken with a chairshot but before he can do anything, Barry Windham & Dusty Rhodes run in to come to the aid of Rick Martel as all hell breaks loose! Dusty delivers a pair of bionic elbows to Bob Orton & Jimmy Hart while Windham trades fists with Valentine. Windham throws Valentine outside of the ring and checks on Martel. Windham asks for the microphone and tells Valentine that he seems to be looking for a fight so why don’t he put his money where his mouth is and put his International Heavyweight Championship on the line against him right here, right now? Valentine agrees and the match is on!

Match #4

International Heavyweight Championship

Greg Valentine (w/Bob Orton & Jimmy Hart) vs Barry Windham (w/Dusty Rhodes)

The match picks up exactly where it was left off when Greg Valentine interfered in the previous match with both Valentine & Windham trading fists. Windham has always been a deceptively fast wrestler for a man his size and Valentine finds that out early and it looks like he could lose his title to another promotion! And indeed, Barry Windham has Greg Valentine down quickly with his flying lariat and makes the cover but while Dusty Rhodes is fighting outside with Bob Orton, Dick Slater (who was eliminated by Windham in the first round) runs in and jumps on Windham! Referee Adrien Desbois calls for the bell at 4:55.

Winner: Barry Windham by DQ (4:55); Greg Valentine retains

The American Dream is fighting outside with Bob Orton but Orton puts a thumb in Dusty’s eyes, temporarily blinding him. Dick Slater picks something from his jeans’ pocket and throws a pair of handcuffs to Orton! Orton handcuffs Dusty to the guardrail as he slides back in the ring to work on Windham. It’s a 3-on-1 on Barry Windham and Valentine brings his title belt to put it in the middle of the ring. Valentine orders for the spike piledriver! Orton & Slater set up Barry Windham for the spike piledriver when out of the locker room, run The Rougeau Brothers! The crowd is absolutely nuts as Jacques & Raymond furiously fight with Orton & Slater while Greg Valentine sneaks outside of the ring to retreat backstage with Jimmy Hart. Jacques & Raymond throw Slater out of the ring and they set up Bob Orton in the middle of the ring to hit La Bombe Rougeau! Slater pulls Orton out of the ring and now, Raymond asks for the mic. Raymond says that they need to settle this once and for all as they made a promise to their fans that they’d rid Montreal of Orton & Slater once and for all. The Rougeaus challenge the WWF Tag Team Champions to a non-title match at the Montreal Forum on September 13. No DQ, No Countout, a good old-fashioned street fight for honor. Bob Orton & Dick Slater accept and we have a HUGE match for Lutte Internationale’s next supercard at the Forum!

***CONFIRMED FOR LUTTE INTERNATIONALE SEPTEMBER 13 SUPERCARD AT THE FORUM***

NON-TITLE STREET FIGHT

The Rougeau Brothers vs Bob Orton & Dick Slater (WWF Tag Team Champions, w/Jimmy Hart)

Semifinals

Terry Gordy gets a bye to the finals

Match #5

George “The Animal” Steele (w/Richard Charland) (Lutte Internationale) vs Rick Martel (Lutte Internationale)

It was a bruised & battered Rick Martel who entered his semi-finals match against his nemesis’ gatekeeper, George “The Animal” Steele, with fellow Frenchy’s Legion member, Richard “Le Magnifique” Charland at ringside. Despite still limping a bit from his previous match, Martel is still able to execute his gameplan like he had planned it. However, one false step during a leapfrog and Martel seemed to have injured his ankle again. And adding to that, the bruised ribs he still hasn’t completely recovered from and this gave The Animal multiple targets to zero in. Alternating between the ankle and the ribs, with a bit of help from Charland when the referee’s back was turned, Steele is able to get some momentum. Fortunately, for Martel, Steele commits a mistake when he goes for his trademark splash and Martel is able to dodge. Martel mounts a comeback and hits his signature spots but then the action goes to the outside after Martel clotheslined Steele over the top rope. Even though this is more Steele’s territory, Martel goes outside anyway and goes into battle with Steele while the referee counts. Martel gets the upper hand and Charland tries to interfere but Martel clocks him with a right hand. Steele then clubs Martel from behind and he goes crashing into the ring post. Steele positions Martel in front of the ring post and goes for a headbut....but Martel dodges! Steele headbutts the post and collapses on the floor. That allows Martel to rest long enough to climb back in the ring and Charland is unable to wake up The Animal in time so Martel gets the countout victory and moves on to the finals!

Winner: Rick Martel/countout (13:28) – advances to finals

Match #6

International TV Championship

Gino Brito © vs Hacksaw Butch Reed (USWA)

The USWA representative definitely had some pent-up frustration following his time limit draw elimination from the opening match in the first round. Butch Reed wants to make sure that this one doesn’t slip away from him this time. Both Guy Hauray & Édouard Carpentier put over Hacksaw Butch Reed as perhaps Gino Brito’s toughest challenge ahead of his match with “Dr. D” David Schultz on September 13 and also put over the fact that Butch Reed could very well return to the USWA as the International TV Champion, adding another title to Fritz Von Erich’s territory. Gino Brito was in serious trouble for most of this match with Butch Reed being absolutely dominant, leaving little-to-no chance to Brito to generate much offense. But the fiery Italian’s pride and heart allows him to reach deep inside of him and Brito is able to turn the tide. In the final minutes of the match, Butch Reed scoops up Gino Brito for his Gorilla Press Slam but somehow, Brito manages to slip behind Reed and pins him with an O’Connor Roll at 28:23 to retain his championship

Winner: Gino Brito (28:23) – retains the International TV Championship

Finals

Match #7

Johnny Rougeau Memorial Cup Final Match

Terry Gordy (USWA) vs Rick Martel (Lutte Internationale)

The moment has finally come to determine the winner of the 1st Johnny Rougeau Memorial Cup. While Rick Martel has caught literally no break in this tournament, Terry “Bam Bam” Gordy is well-rested, benefitting from a bye in the semis, since both Tito Santana & Bret Hart were eliminated in the quarterfinals. Another case of power vs strength and throughout the match, Guy Hauray & Édouard Carpentier put over Terry Gordy and the possibility of his Fabulous Freebirds cohorts, Michael PS Hayes & Buddy Jack Roberts showing up to help him. Jacques, Raymond & Armand Rougeau are seated at ringside, looking to congratulate the winner of the tournament. Martel fought as hard as he could and gave it his best shot. Martel’s able to hit his Slingshot Splash on Gordy but Gordy kicked out at 2. The end of the match saw Rick Martel first attempting the Boston Crab but changed his mind and went instead for a Figure Four but Gordy countered and shoved Martel, who went head first in the turnbuckle. Martel staggered and Gordy hit the High Angle Belly-to-Back Suplex to get the victory at 21:36 and win the Johnny Rougeau Memorial Cup

Winner: Terry Gordy (21:36) – Wins the Johnny Rougeau Memorial Cup

The Rougeau Brothers climbed in the ring to check on Rick Martel and to help him back on his feet. Gordy celebrated in the ring as Martel waved to the crowd to thank them for their support. Before receiving his trophy and his check, Terry Gordy showed sportsmanship by shaking hands with Rick Martel and Martel raised Gordy’s hand in victory. The Rougeaus did the same for Terry Gordy as promoter Frank Valois came out and handed to Gordy a check for $100,000 as well as the Johnny Rougeau Memorial Cup. Terry Gordy took the mic and thanked promoter Frank Valois, the Rougeau family & Lutte Internationale for organizing the tournament. He also showed much respect to Rick Martel by congratulating him for his efforts and he hopes to wrestle him again. As for the Rougeaus, Gordy said that he hopes to come back here in Montreal with his Fabulous Freebirds cohorts and tear the house down against the Rougeaus someday. Gordy thanks everyone again and the show ends with the winner’s photo op with his check & the Johnny Rougeau Memorial Cup trophy.

Match #3

Al Perez (AWA) vs Tom Pritchard (w/Sunshine) (SMW)

Al Perez obviously is the underdog in this match, despite gaining a lot of momentum in the AWA recently, since hes facing the current Smokey Mountain Wrestling Heavyweight Champion Tom Pritchard. Guy Hauray mentions how Al Perez must be careful of Sunshines actions at ringside.

Winner: Tom Pritchard by DQ (4:51) advances to 2nd round

Dastardly Pritchard nicks another win...
