rainmakerrtv Posted July 25 Author Posted July 25 Pacific Coast Wrestling show from the Kelowna Memorial Arena, Kelowna, August 2nd , 1991 Ultimo Dragon vs. Michael Modest Modest continues to impress as the standout of the 1991 rookie class. The Serial Thrillaz member went the distance with the former Light Heavyweight champion, going to a 15 minute time limit draw in an exciting technical match. Bart Gunn vs. D-Von Dudley D-Von evened the score with the Gunns, taking out Bart with a snap scoop powerslam Chris Hamrick vs. Little Guido Guido was especially feisty in this match, and came fighting back from whatever Hamrick threw at him. Confederate Currency had to break out the Southern Bellringer (piledriver from the second turnbuckle) to put the FBI member down for good. Rob Van Dam & The Tasmaniac vs. Steve Blackman & Shane Douglas As can be imagined, chaos was the rule in this match. Tasmaniac had Blackman in the Tazmission, only to be told by the ref to release it as they were in the ropes. The Tasmaniac responded by hitting a T-Bone suplex on the ref then locking him in the Tasmission. It took both RVD and the Sinister Minister to pry him off. Needless to say, Blackman and Douglas won by DQ, and there was talk of suspension for the Tasmaniac. Pacific Submission Title Match : Gary Albright © vs. Lance Storm Lance did all he could to get the Canadian Maple Leaf on Albright, but there was no taking down the Animal, who forced Storm to tap out to the Dragon Sleeper. Golden State Tag Team Title Match : The Force Of July (The Patriot & The Eagle) © vs. Buddy Rose & Sean Morley The veteran cunning of Rose did the Playboy Club team well against the champs. The Patriot was able to hit the Patriot Slam on Morley, but the pin was broken up by Scotty The Body and Stevie Richards who rushed the ring, leading to a DQ. The Club continued to attack until the Eagle grabbed a chair from ringside to clear the ring.
rainmakerrtv Posted July 25 Author Posted July 25 We are a few weeks out from Phoenix Firestorm, Pacific Coast Wrestling's Summer Spectacular, and even though it is early, there is so much excitement about the lineup that it just had to be released. There are some incredible matches coming up, including major title matches, and there is bound to be something that appeals to everyone : Pacific Coast Wrestling presents Phoenix Firestorm from Arizona Veterans Memorial Coliseum, Phoenix, Night One The Serial Thrillaz vs. Fastball (Bobby Horne & Robert Thompson) Tommy Dreamer vs. Alex Wright Chris Hamrick vs. Little Guido Ultimo Dragon vs. Michael Modest Barry Windham vs. Rick Martel Pierre Carl Ouellet vs. Sabu Steve Blackman vs. The Tasmaniac Golden State Tag Team Title Match : The Force Of July (The Patriot & The Eagle) © vs. Scotty The Body & Stevie Richards California Title Match : Rob Van Dam © vs. Jushin Liger Bootcamp Match : Sgt. Slaughter vs. Dennis Condrey Pacific Coast Wrestling presents Phoenix Firestorm from Arizona Veterans Memorial Coliseum, Phoenix, Night Two Bam Bam Bigelow vs. Big Vito Iron & Steel (Tony Atlas & Larry Cameron) vs. The Headbangers Shane Douglas vs. Dean Malenko The Smoking Gunns vs. The Dudley Boys Steven Regal vs. Mike Awesome Randy Savage vs. Brian Lee Chris Candido vs. Buddy Rose Pacific Light Heavyweight Title Match : The Lightning Kid © vs. Jerry Lynn The Thrillseekers vs. The Oregon Wrecking Crew (Gary Albright & David Young) Bret Hart vs. Chris Adams Pacific Tag Team Title Match : The Midnight Express © vs. The Sons Of The Beach (Cannonball Grizz & The Sandman) Pacific Heavyweight Title Match : Toshiaki Kawada © vs. Steve Williams
spaldoni Posted August 1 Posted August 1 Headbangers seem to be gaining more and more buzz Billy wins a battle in the feud Props to Wright for staying focused and putting on a clinic with Candido Big V continues to earn his money with Cornette I can see the styles of PCO and Sabu meshing well. This could be a gem feud for PCW Jericho keeps hos momentum going Vancouver Fastball gets a confidence building win Speaking of confidence builders, huge finish and win for Lynn! Slaughter has found himself some more dependable allies After more than a year with the TV title, I can understand why Busick may be slowing down. Hart gets the quick pin on Adams. I could just imagine the frustration on Adam's face No doubt about it, Williams will get another title shot Modest taking Dragon to the limit says a lot With things even, I'm sure another hard hitting tag match is coming If it takes a second rope piledriver to put him down, that makes Guido a tough guy in my opinion Not sure if even the Sinister can control Taz. He's out of control! Albright continues his dominance After that, I wouldn't be surprised if the FOJ offer Scotty and Stevie a title shot just to get their hands on them Damn, Phoenix Firestorm is stacked! A lot of grudges to be settled
rainmakerrtv Posted August 2 Author Posted August 2 Pacific Wrestling Showcase from the Portland Sports Arena, Portland , on ESPN / TSN, August 7th, 1991 Ultimo Dragon vs. Michael Modest Last weekend, these two thrilled the fans in Kelowna with a gripping battle that went to a 15 minute draw. PCW decided to bring this to the TV audience, and Dragon and Modest put on another technical showcase, once again going to the full 15 minutes. The fans were definitely clamouring to see these two face off again, and something tells me that PCW will do so on an even bigger stage. Fastball (Bobby Horne & Robert Thompson) vs. The FBI Fastball have gained the love of the fans as the good times tag team of the West Coast. While not losing their playful interactions with the fans, Trisa Hayes' duo have started showing that they are not a team to be taken lightly. They went toe to toe with Jim Cornette's enforcers, even standing their ground with the feared Big Vito. Vito was able to deliver the victory to the Louisville Lip by taking Thompson down with the LBK (Legitimate Businessman's Kick) , but the Pugilistic Paisano's had to put in a lot of work to get there. Pierre Carl Ouellet vs. Caleb Reynolds PCO came off the high of being the Final Survivor at Deseret Storm and ran straight into a buzzsaw called Sabu. Recognizing he would have to take things quite further to take on the Bombay Madman, he showed a more intense edge in this match. The Fighting French Canadian battered Reynolds and planted him with a Piledriver before going up to and landing the Cannonball for the win. If Ouellet is going to go to war, he knows he is going to have to go to the next level. Randy Savage vs. David Young Ever since arriving in PCW , the Macho Man has been laser focused on the Terror Collective in general and Brian Lee in particular. With Miss Elizabeth by his side, Savage made a big dent in the Collective at Deseret Storm and now takes on the so-called Master Of The Spinebuster Slam. To his credit, young didn't back down one inch from Savage, and the Macho Man's usual fervor was cranked up to chip away at the double tough Georgia native. He was finally able to break Young with his trademark diving Elbow Drop. He won't be satisfied, though, until he gets the Bulldozer locked in his sights. Barry Windham vs. Peter Baggenstos Windham has a considerable legacy in his time in PCW, having been Pacific Heavyweight Champion twice and developed a dedicated following among the fans. He is heading towards perhaps his most heated feud yet, locking horns with the Canadian legend Rick Martel, and is getting himself in fighting trim. The Sweetwater native put on a textbook display of dominance, dispatching the rookie with a Superplex. Windham is in his prime and rising to the occasion with Martel. The Eagle vs. Buddy Rose The Force Of July have been defending their Golden State Tag Team Titles against Scotty The Body and Stevie Richards, but that has put them in the line of fire to the entire Playboy Club. Tonight, the Eagle would face the Godfather of the Club himself, Buddy Rose. The wily veteran showed how he was the master of the cheap shot, using every dirty tactic imaginable to weaken and damage the masked man's right knee. Rose looked to put him away with a Figure Four Leglock, but the Eagle countered with an inside cradle. One … two … kickout! The Eagle got back up, and was immediately met by the Inside Out Backbreaker from the Playboy. There was no coming back from that, and Rose got the three count. Even after the final count, Rose kept going after the Eagle's knee until the Patriot charged in and ran him off. It looks like the Playboy did some real damage.
rainmakerrtv Posted August 2 Author Posted August 2 Pacific Coast Wrestling show from the Portland Memorial Coliseum , Portland , on Pacific Super Cards on ESPN / TSN, August 8th, 1991 Bam Bam Bigelow & Iron & Steel (Tony Atlas & Larry Cameron) vs. Chris Adams & The Headbangers The Headbangers continued to show more and more confidence, getting right into the thick of the fray until Bigelow pinned Mosh with a slingshot splash. The Sons Of The Beach (Cannonball Grizz & The Sandman) vs. Coast 2 Coast (John Tatum & Jack Victory) The SoBs scored their biggest victory yet, taking out Tatum by way of with the Wipeout (while Grizz holds the opponent over his knee, Sandman hits a top rope legdrop). Steve Williams vs. Mike Awesome Awesome did his best to injure Williams, knowing Doctor Death was in line for a shot at Kawada's Pacific Heavyweight Title. Steve still prevailed, pinning Awesome following an Oklahoma Roll . Jason Jett vs. Eddie Guerrero Guerrero continued his rise by defeating a game Jett with the Tornado DDT. Pacific Tag Team Title Match : The Midnight Express © vs. Steven Regal & Tommy Dreamer Regal's shoulder damage from his loss to Albright continued to play a part as the Midnights took him out with the Veg-O-Matic. Pacific Heavyweight Title Match : Toshiaki Kawada © vs. Bret Hart The Hitman fought like a lion to regain the title that he once held. It seemed like he just might do that when he had Kawada set up for the Sharpshooter. Just like clockwork, Chris Adams and Mike Awesome charged out and attacked Hart, leading to a DQ finish. The Headbangers barricaded the locker room doors, and it seemed like it would be impossible for any of Bret's friends to come to the rescue. Then , out of nowhere, two men came out of the audience and leaped over the ringside barricades, charging into the ring. As the League Of Gentlemen scattered, the two interlopers helped the Hitman to his feet. IT WAS OWEN HART AND JIM NEIDHART! Bret's brother and brother in law hadn't been seen on the west coast for a few years, but returned just in time to come to his aid. And right in the nick of time, it seems.
rainmakerrtv Posted August 2 Author Posted August 2 Pacific Coast Wrestling show from McArthur Court, Eugene, August 9th, 1991 Lance Storm vs. Dean Malenko Storm pulled off something of an upset, forcing the Man Of 1000 Holds to give up to the Canadian Maple Leaf. Shane Douglas vs. Fit Finlay Douglas absorbed an hellacious beating from Finlay and battled back, pinning the Belfast Bruiser following a Belly To Belly Suplex. Pacific Submission Title Match : Gary Albright © vs. Chris Jericho Jericho was unable to get Albright down for the Liontamer, and the Animal forced the Thrillseeker to tap out when he caught him in a Camel Clutch. Rob Van Dam & Alex Wright vs. The Thunder Dragons (Jushin Liger & Ultimo Dragon) Liger shocked many in the crowd when he caught RVD coming off the ropes in a running palm thrust to the jaw, getting the pinfall on the California champ. The Force Of July (The Patriot & The Eagle) & Chris Candido vs. Scotty The Body, Stevie Richards, & Sean Morley The damage done by Buddy Rose earlier in the weekend proved to be a factor in this match, as the Eagle was not at full capacity in this match, allowing Scotty to take advantage and pin him following the Body Shot (DDT). Pacific Light Heavyweight Title Match : The Lightning Kid © vs. David Cash Another great title defense closes out the night, with the Kid facing off with an energetic young contender in Cash, ultimately coming out on top with the Lightning Strike (Tombstone).
spaldoni Posted August 8 Posted August 8 Looks like Ultimo and Modest will have to settle things at Firestorm FBI get the hard fought victory but Fastball's stock is rising PCO knows exactly what he's getting into with Sabu Savage knocks down a domino as he gets closer to Lee Windham and Martel are going to tear it up in Phoenix Oh man, doesn't look good for Eagle. Portland Headbangers just wont give up on one day getting the better of Iron and Steel Big win for the SOBs taking down the former champs Williams looks more than ready for Kawada Eddie just keeps moving up If you're not 100%, the Midnights will definitely capitalize The night ends on a DQ but no doubt about it, the return of Anvil and Owen sent the fans home happy Eugene Lance kicks off the night with a nice upset Douglas is in the zone! Nothing can stop Albright when he's in animal mode That move gives Liger some serious momentum heading into Firestorm Thanks to Rose, his boys get the victory over a hurt Eagle. The FOJ's title reign could be in trouble Lightning Kid closes out another action packed weekend
rainmakerrtv Posted August 8 Author Posted August 8 Pacific Wrestling Showcase from the Oakland Alameda County Arena, Oakland, on ESPN / TSN, August 14th, 1991 The Thunder Dragons vs. Michael Modest & Shane Helms Ultimo Dragon and Michael Modest are coming off a pair of outstanding matches with neither coming out on top. There were some exciting exchanges between the two, although it ultimately came down to Liger pinning Helms following a rana off the top rope. The fans are really becoming intrigued by this showdown between the former champ and the emerging young rookie. Randy Savage vs. Neal Gotlieb Randy Savage's name has long been synonymous among wrestling fans with intensity. The legend has brought every bit of his violent fervor to his feud with Brian Lee, and even when he wasn't across the ring from the Bulldozer, the Macho Man didn't let up one bit. With Miss Elizabeth cheering him on, Savage tore Gotlieb apart, polishing him off with his trademark Diving Elbow Drop. You can bet that Savage will crank things up even further when he gets in the ring with Lee on a major stage. Fastball (Bobby Horne & Robert Thompson) vs. The Dudley Boys Fastball's quest for credibility has gained traction in recent weeks, with Trisa Hayes' duo steadily showing improvement in the ring, showing that they were tough as well as entertaining. Horne and Thompson would face their sternest test yet, as the Dudley boys had been cutting down most of their opposition like a buzzsaw. Fastball held their ground and slugged it out with the monsters in overalls. No matter what the Dudleys dished out, Fastball took it and fired back in turn. Thompson came close to pinning D-Von following a Samoan Drop, but Bubba Ray was able to break it up. D-Von was able to pin Thompson following a snap scoop power slam. Regardless , little by little, Fastball are showing that they are the real deal. Interview : Don Coss stands in the ring Coss : Ladies and gentlemen, my next guest is a former Pacific Heavyweight Champion … Bret Hart! The crowd explodes in cheers as the Hitman makes his way to the ring. Bret took time to slap palms with fans along the way, even putting his trademark wraparound shades on a young fan at ringside before joining Coss. Coss : Bret , you always seem to have the fans on your side , no matter what happens, they stick with you through thick and thin. Bret : You ain't lying, Don. You mentioned I was a former Pacific Heavyweight Champion. That "former" part rankles me, but my fans didn't lose faith in me. It's great having them in your corner. But you know what else is great to have in your corner? Friends and family. Last week, when I was down and it looked like nobody would be able to help me, a couple of great guys pulled my fat out of the fire. And another guy has readily been my partner in matches against the League Of Gentlemen, all while blazing his own trail in PCW. So I want to bring out three of the best pals a person could hope to add … Jim Neidhart, Owen Hart, and Bam Bam Bigelow! The crowd cheers more as all three wrestlers join Bret in the ring, high fiving the fans along the way. Bret : I can't tell you how much it fills my heart to have you guys looking out for me. Jim, my old partner … we held the tag titles together. But you've proved you can get it done on your own, just like I did. (Neidhart strokes his beard and gives his trademark cackle) Owen, my kid brother … you aren't a kid anymore. You are a grown man and your own man. I couldn't be prouder of what you have accomplished. (Owen beams at his brother) And Bammer … hey, I told you to stop working with me , that you needed to focus more on your own career. So what did you do? You proved you can do it all. You are on a rocket to the top of Pacific Coast Wrestling, and you still take time to team up with me when the League Of Gentlemen come after me. I don't know what I did to be so lucky with my friends, but I appreciate it. Bam Bam : Don't mention it, Bret. The reason you deserve loyalty is that you give it just as much and are just as good a friend to us. You gave me the kick in the butt that I needed, and that inspired me to become what I am now. I am dead set on going to the top of PCW, but I am not going to let that make me forget who my friends are. Owen : What Bam Bam says goes double for us. I've always looked up to you, and you've always looked out for me. No way I am going to turn my back on my brother when he needs help. Neidhart : That's right! Chris Adams and his League Of Creeps have been throwing their weight around for too long! Now they have to face the Hitman, The Anvil, the Rocket and the Beast From The East, and they are in a world of trouble! The Eagle vs. Sean Morley The Force Of July started out defending their Golden State Tag Team Tiles against Scotty The Body and Stevie Richards. This has bloomed into a full blown feud with the entire Playboy Club, and the Club has focused much of their attacks on the Eagle. Eagle took a battering last week, first at the hands of Buddy Rose and then in a six man match. He was noticeably limping as he came to the ring, and the Perfect Specimen clearly could smell blood in the water. Morely was relentless in going after the Eagle's damaged leg, and the masked man struggled to defend himself. Morley was close to administering the Full Nelson, and although the Eagle fought hard to try to get to the ropes, a boot to the back of the leg shut that down. Morley locked the hold in and the Eagle immediately tapped out. Morley was looking to do more damage after the match, but the Patriot rushed in to protect his partner. The FoJ's title reign may well be in serious jeopardy. Little Guido vs. Paul Wachter One of the more surprising contenders from the 1991 rookie class has been Little Guido Maritato. Despite his diminutive stature, Guido has consistently proved the adage that it isn't the size of the dog in the fight, it's the size of the fight in the dog, and he has plenty of fight in him. The Pugnacious Paisano has showed his willingness to do whatever task Jim Cornette throws at him, as well as a determination to knuckle under to nobody. Guido pummeled Wachter from bell to bell, polishing him off with with the Sicilian Slice (legdrop Bulldog). Little Guido is clearly on track for big things in the future. Roddy Piper vs. Stevie Richards It just goes to show how much things can change over the course of a year. Earlier in the year, Richards had faced off with Piper, and the Hot Scot handed him a humiliating defeat, one of a series of losses and mistakes that very nearly got the Dancing Fool fired from the Playboy Club. Scotty The Body took Richards under his wing, and through Scotty's stern training and conditioning, Richards developed into a valued asset to the Playboy Club. If Piper was expecting the hapless buffoon he had handily defeated earlier in the year, he had best think again. With Scotty in his corner, Richards chipped away at Piper with shots and hits, enraging the Rowdy One with his hit and run tactics. Piper fought back, but Richards was able to keep himself just outside of his grasp. Even when Piper was able to get his hands on Richards and land his moves, Richards' considerable vigor allowed him to bounce back and keep going. Little by little, though, Piper was able to catch up with and wear down Richards , trapping him in the Sleeper Hold. It was then that Scotty chose to strike, attacking Piper and leading to a DQ decision. The pair double teamed Piper until Chris Candido ran out, at which point they scattered from the ring. He may not have been victorious, but Richards can at least say he held his own against a legend.
rainmakerrtv Posted August 8 Author Posted August 8 Pacific Coast Wrestling show from the Cow Palace , San Francisco, on Pacific Super Cards on ESPN / TSN, August 15th , 1991 Pierre Carl Ouellet vs. Alex Wright PCO has been on quite a roll since Deseret Storm, propelling him to victory over a determined Wunderkind by way of the Cannonball. Shane Douglas vs. John Tatum Despite the dirty tricks of Tatum, Douglas got a convincing win when he hit a diving cross body press. The Patriot vs. Buddy Rose Perhaps the Patriot was distracted with concern for his partner, the Eagle, but the masked here seemed off his game, allowing the canny veteran Rose to defeat him with the Inside Out Backbreaker. Pacific Tag Team Title Match : The Midnight Express © vs. The Sons Of The Beach (Cannonball Grizz & The Sandman) The SoBs were not about to take any of Jim Cornette's guff , and fired back hard against the Midnights. It broke down to all four wrestlers brawling in the ring and a no contest result. California Title Match : Rob Van Dam © vs. Steven Regal Regal is working to come back after losing the Submission Title to Gary Albright, Regal presented a determined challenge to RVD, but fell short by way of a Frog Splash from the champ. Barry Windham vs. Scotty The Body Scotty gave a good accounting of himself, all things considered, but Windham was ultimately able to bring him down with the Superplex. Pacific Television Title Match : Big Bully Busick © vs. Eddie Guerrero Guerrero continues to be the most dangerous contender for Busick's TV title, winning the match but not the belt when he hit a dive on the Man From Powerhouse Hill to the outside, making it back into the ring just in time to get the win by Countout.
rainmakerrtv Posted August 8 Author Posted August 8 Pacific Coast Wrestling show from the Selland Arena, Fresno, August 16th , 1991 Mike Maverick vs. Big Vito Vito proved his value to Jim Cornette as a fearsome enforcer, taking out Maverick by way of the LBK (Legitimate Businessman's Kick). The New Foundation vs. The Headbangers In his previous run in PCW, Jim Neidhart had a considerable undefeated streak in his hometown of Fresno. That continued into this match, although the Anvil had to work for it. The Headbangers were feisty and not going to be pushovers, and it was a fierce battle before the New Foundation prevailed by way of the Hart Attack. Tommy Dreamer vs. Brian Lee Lee is proving to be just a ferocious as his rival Randy Savage, rampaging through Tommy Dreamer and planting him with the Prime Time Slam . Steve Williams vs. Jack Victory On his way to challenge for Toshiaki Kawada's Pacific Heavyweight Title, Dr. Death bowled over Victory and crushed him with the Oklahoma Stampede. Iron & Steel ( Tony Atlas & Larry Cameron) vs. The Oregon Wrecking Crew (Gary Albright & David Young) This match between the former Pacific Tag champs and the former Golden State Tag champs wound up being a huge hoss battle, with all four of these heavyweights going to all out way. In a huge result, the OWC got a major win with Young pinned Cameron following a Spinebuster Slam. Pacific Light Heavyweight Title Match : The Lightning Kid © vs. Jason Jett The evening closed out with an exciting Light Heavyweight battle, where the Kid successfully defended his title by way of a Moonsault Body Press .
spaldoni Posted August 15 Posted August 15 The LHWs continue to go all out for the fans Savage tunes up for the bulldozer The young teams are taking PCW by storm Bret's friends and family are reunited and ready to take on the League Man, things just keep getting worse for the Eagle Little Guido turned out to be a valuable asset for Cornette Speaking of valuable assets, Richards has definitely proved his worth to the Playboy Club Cow Palace PCO and Douglas are two guys on big time rolls I'm worried about the FOJ SOBs prove they can hang with the champs RVD is really coming into his own as CA champ Too bad Richards wasn't around for Scotty's match Is Eddie the one who finally has Busick's number Fresno Big V starts the night with a Big W When Anvil returned the first thing I thought of was his Fresno streak. Him and Owen keep it alive Lee sends a message of his own to Savage Williams is in top shape and I'm sure Kawada is taking notes WOW, big win for the OWC Lightning Kid closes out the weekend on yet another high note
rainmakerrtv Posted August 15 Author Posted August 15 Pacific Wrestling Showcase from the Olympic Auditorium , Los Angeles , on ESPN / TSN, August 21st , 1991 The New Foundation vs. Patrick Bolton & Alan Ball Owen Hart and Jim Neidhart are making their in ring return to PCW TV, this time as an exciting new tag team. They showed that the excitement around the team was justified, easily dismantling the rookie team. The Anvil overpowered the opposition, while the Rocket (despite having a small cast on one forearm) unleashed some incredible high flying moves. They dispatched Bolton with the Hart Attack , then soaked up the cheers of the fans. The New Foundation are definitely going to transform Pacific Coast Wrestling. The Patriot vs. Scotty The Body The Patriot comes out clearly concerned about the damage that the Playboy Club have done to his partner, the Eagle, in the past few weeks. Staring down the barrel of a Golden State Tag Title defense in a week, it puts considerable pressure on the Patriot knowing his partner isn't at 100%, especially facing one of the people responsible. The presence of Stevie Richards at ringside piled distraction on top of distraction. Nevertheless, the Patriot did his best to keep his composure and using his considerable physique to overpower Scotty. He managed to get him set up for the Uncle Slam, but Stevie Richards broke it up, leading to a DQ. The two Playboy Club members continued the attack, but the Patriot ended the double team with a double clothesline, and Scotty and Stevie beat a hasty retreat to the locker room. Regardless, not a good omen for the upcoming title match. The Smoking Gunns vs. The FBI Ever since they arrived on the west coast, the Smoking Gunns have been locked into Barry Windham's feud with Rick Martel and the Dudley Boys. That seems to be spilling over into their other matches. Case in point : the Gunns were having a very competitive match with Jim Cornette's enforcer team, when the Dudleys made their presence felt, sneaking down to ringside and hitting Bart with a double spear when the referee was distracted. Bart was easy prey for the LBK (Legitimate Businessman's Kick, giving the win to the FBI. Once he had recovered, Bart joined Billy in chasing after the Dudleys, but they were long gone. It won't be long before the Gunns go looking for payback. Sgt. Slaughter vs. Jacob Derwin Sgt. Slaughter is another wrestler with one opponent in particular in mind . The double tough DI has been gunning for Dennis Condrey, and now has him in his sights in a Bootcamp Match at Phoenix Firestorm. Slaughter showed he was raring and ready to go, dismantling Derwin and forcing him to give up to the Cobra Clutch. Loverboy Dennis may well regret having gotten under Sarge's skin quite so much. Fastball (Bobby Horne & Robert Thompson) vs. The Serial Thrillaz Both of these teams, started at the top of the year, but have taken very different paths. The Thrillaz have spent most of the year embroiled in a high profile feud with the Money Train. Fastball, on the other hand, won the hearts of the fans with their fun attitudes but lingered in the lower middle of the rankings. With the Thrillaz looking to move on from the Money Train feud and Fastball looking to be taken more seriously, we had two teams eager to make an impression. That's exactly what happened, with a tightly contested bout that had the attention of all of the fans. The Thrillaz ended up on top after pinning Thompson with the Super Splash (Maverick climbs up to the second turnbuckle, Helms stands on Maverick's shoulders to hit a diving splash). Regardless of the result, both teams got attention for this match. Steve Williams vs. Mosh Dr. Death is a week away from taking on Toshiaki Kawada for the Pacific Heavyweight Title, and the League Of Gentlemen have sent out one of their members to do some damage before the big match. Mosh might seem to be drastically overmatched, but having his partner Thrasher in his corner provided a distraction to Williams that allowed Mosh to keep in the match. That came to a screeching halt when Iron & Steel came down to ringside and stood in Williams' corner, giving the death glare to Thrasher. Thrasher kept to himself after that, and there went Mosh's chances. Williams bowled him over and flattened him with the Doctor Bomb, getting a dominant win. Kawada may be cold blooded , but he has to be concerned now.
rainmakerrtv Posted August 15 Author Posted August 15 Pacific Coast Wrestling show from the LA Sports Arena, Los Angeles, on Pacific Super Cards on ESPN / TSN, August 22nd, 1991 David Cash & Jason Jett vs. The Dudley Boys The Smoking Gunns got their payback, coming down to ringside and brawling with the Dudleys, giving the win by countout to the Money Train. Barry Windham vs. John Tatum Windham showed he is ready for Rick Martel at Phoenix Firestorm, levelling Tatum with the Western Lariat for the victory. Roddy Piper vs. Thrasher Both men came to the ring, with Piper taking a moment on the microphone to give props to Thrasher for his fashion sense. The Headbanger put in a game effort, but the veteran Piper was able to put him out with the Sleeper Hold. Jushin Liger & The Sons Of The Beach (Cannonball Grizz & The Sandman) vs. the Midnight Express The Peach Patrol brought a ferocious battle to the Midnights, with Grizz bringing home the win with a running splash on Stan Lane. Pacific Television Title Match : Big Bully Busick © vs. Michael Modest Modest proved to be a worthy contender , taking the fight to the Big Bully before going down to the Spinebuster Slam. Pacific Heavyweight Title Match : Toshiaki Kawada © vs. Randy Savage Savage brought his trademark ferocity to this match, and this was an intense and hard hitting bout. Unfortunately Brian Lee couldn't keep his nose out of it, attacking Savage and causing a DQ result.
rainmakerrtv Posted August 15 Author Posted August 15 Pacific Coast Wrestling Show from the UCSB Event Center, Santa Barbara, August 23rd, 1991 Chris Hamrick vs. Sabu The Bombay Madman got the win in a fierce bout, hitting a moonsault on Confederate Currency. Shane Douglas vs. Dean Malenko This was a tight and intense match, with both men at points looking like they might take the win, but it was Douglas who ultimately prevailed by way of the Pittsburgh Plunge. Steve Blackman vs. The Tasmaniac Blackman was able to avoid the Tazmission, but went down to a T-Bone Tazplex. The presence of Dan Severn kept the Tasmaniac from going after Blackman post match. Ultimo Dragon vs. Jerry Lynn With his shot at the Light Heavyweight Title coming up in a week, Jerry Lynn defeated the former champ with a Cradle Piledriver. Bam Bam Bigelow vs. Fit Finlay Two of the toughest individuals in all of PCW squared off in a knock down, drag out fight where Bigelow came out on top with a Slingshot Splash. California Title Match : Rob Van Dam © vs. Chris Candido Candido had Roddy Piper in his corner, and came very close to taking RVD to the limit, only falling prey to a spin kick at the 29 minute mark which allowed the champion to hit a Split Legged Moonsault to keep the title in his grasp.
spaldoni Posted August 22 Posted August 22 The New Foundation join the incredibly competitive PCW tag division Patriot proves he can handle himself but that might be enough in the upcoming tag title defense Those no good Dudleys are in big trouble Slaughter's gunning for Condrey Man, the tag division just keeps getting more and more intense I'm so pumped up for Williams vs. Kawada LA I knew those no good Dudleys would pay Windham and Martel might steal the show at Firestorm Once Piper clamps on the sleeper it's lights out Cornette better be worried because the SOBs have the Midnights number Spinebuster Slam! Major props to Kawada for defending the title against Savage so close to Firestorm. I like how this is left opened for a program down the road. Santa Barbara Sabu kicks the night off with another wild win Douglas is having the comeback of the year It takes a beast to tame a beast Lynn's tuned up and ready for his big opportunity Finlay made Bigelow fight for that one RVD retains in a thriller against a game Candido
rainmakerrtv Posted August 22 Author Posted August 22 Pacific Coast Wrestling presents Phoenix Firestorm from Arizona Veterans Memorial Coliseum, Phoenix, Night One 2/3 Falls Match : The Serial Thrillaz vs. Fastball (Bobby Horne & Robert Thompson) Pacific Coast Wrestling roll into Phoenix for the high point of the PCW summer schedule, Phoenix Firestorm. First up is a match between two rookie teams whose profiles are on the rise of late. They have had a pair of matches in the past few weeks, with both wins getting a win apiece, and the attention this new rivalry has drawn led to a straightforward match being changed at the last moment to a 2/3 falls match. Both teams were aware of the increased attention the match had drawn, and were eager to make the most of it, so this wound up being a highly competitive match. After a long opening sequence, the Thrillaz got the first pinfall after Shane Helms caught Thompson by surprise with a Back Snap. Fastball fought their way out of the hole by drilling Helms with a DDT from Horne. From then on, both teams went all out with near falls from each duo but neither were able to get a full three count before the time ran out. Despite the 20 minute time limit draw, both teams had proved themselves, and shook hands after the match as a show of respect. Tommy Dreamer vs. Alex Wright Trisa Hayes may have been all smiles at the end of the last match, accompanying Fastball, she wore a sterner expression for this match. The unwelcome attentions from Alex Wright had left her clearly unimpressed, and both she and her man Tommy Dreamer were looking to send a message to Das Wunderkind to keep his eyes to himself. Alex seemed to find this all quite hilarious, judging by his smirk through the first half. The same smirk got wiped off his face when Dreamer caught him coming off the ropes with a right cross, stopping the German star dead in his tracks. Dreamer then started unloading on Wright, hammering him with lefts and rights. He then drove Wright head first into the mat with a Piledriver, not once but twice. After that, it was academic as Dreamer rolled him up for the pinfall. Hopefully, Wright has now learned the lesson to never rub another man's rhubarb (whatever the hell that means). Chris Hamrick vs. Little Guido Jim Cornette continues to show his faith in his 1991 Rookie Prospect, throwing him into both singles and tag team battles every chance he can get. Tonight, Guido goes to the big stage , facing a stalwart member of the Money Train. These two had crossed swords several weeks ago, and if anything, Guido was even more tenacious in this match. Confederate Currency fired back in kind, but Guido was clearly a lot to contain. Guido was in constant pursuit, and once again, it took Hamrick's devastating Southern Bellringer (piledriver from the second turnbuckle) to ultimately put a stop to him. Given some more experience, Guido is going to be a true threat in PCW. Ultimo Dragon vs. Michael Modest Ultimo Dragon and Michael Modest have had some exciting (albeit inconclusive) matches lately, and there was a lot of attention when they took their rivalry to the big stage. With all eyes upon them, the two competitors rose to the occasion, with a gripping match that kept the audience fascinated. It looked like it would go to Modest when he had Dragon set up for the Reality Check, but the masked man countered with a Sunset Flip. Modest kicked out a 2 and a half, but Dragon flattened him with a spin kick, then followed up with the Asai Moonsault for the three count. The two men shook hands, but the fans were clearly eager to see them give it another go round. Barry Windham vs. Rick Martel Martel's switch to the dark side drew a lot of anger from many people, but with Windham it ignited into full blown wild violence. While both men are gifted with considerable technical skills, it didn't really come into play with this match, as the two legends tore into each other like wild animals. Martel was able to dodge the lariat, but Windham was able to catch him coming the other way off the ropes with a running crossbody. Martel countered with a rollover, and placed his feet on the ropes outside the view of the ref to steel the victory from Windham. Pierre Carl Ouellet vs. Sabu PCO has a well earned reputation as one of the toughest men in PCW, but even he has seemed a little uncertain of what to make of the sheer chaos that Sabu brings to the ring. The Bombay Madman brought his madness to the ring, which Ouellet met with his own grit and determination. Both men laid into each other, but things took a turn when Sabu took down Ouellet with a spinning back heel kick. He then went outside and went under the ring, pulling out a folding table. The fans were puzzled when he set up the table in the ring, then were astonished when he set up the dazed Ouellet on the table and hit a Moonsault on him, with the table collapsing beneath them. After that , the three count was academic, and Sabu got a win that made it clear that he would do anything to defeat his opponent. Steve Blackman vs. The Tasmaniac Sabu isn't the only lunatic that the Sinister Minister has in the Hexagon, with the brutal Tasmaniac leaving a trail of broken bodies across PCW. Despite the wild man's savage demeanor, Dan Severn is convinced that there is a sane man inside, and that is how the Beast's right hand man Steve Blackman got caught in the middle. The Living Weapon had learned well from his previous encounters, choosing to stick and move and avoid getting in the clutches of the Tasmaniac. Blackman was able to get him down on the mat in a few occasions, but the Tasmaniac was able to fight his way out of any submission attempts. There were a few instances where Tasmaniac was able to hit some of his trademark bursts of violence and catch Blackman in a suplex, but Steve was able to roll with the move and deflect some of the damage. It seemed like Blackman might just pull it off , but right when he was going for the Running Bicycle Kick, the Sinister Minister tripped him coming off the ropes. Tasmaniac took advantage of the stumble, hitting a textbook bridging back suplex that dropped Blackman on the back of his head. The move caused Severn's eyes to widen at ringside and he pointed at the Tasmaniac as he got the three count. As Tasmaniac got up, Severn shouted, "Peter!", which caused the wild man to stare at him, confused. The Sinister Minister was telling him to put Blackman in the Tazmission post match, but Tasmaniac kept staring while Severn helped Blackman from the ring. What doe Severn know? Golden State Tag Team Title Match : The Force Of July (The Patriot & The Eagle) © vs. Scotty The Body & Stevie Richards The champions are coming it at a distinct disadvantage, with the Eagle having an injured leg from repeated attacks by members of the Playboy Club in the past weeks. As if to rub it in, Scotty and Stevie were not just accompanied by Tina Ferrari, but also Buddy Rose and Sean Morley. The Patriot put in a valiant effort , trying to protect his partner, but eventually had to tag the Eagle in. The Club were merciless as they went after his leg, and did a lot of damage before he was able to tag out again. The Patriot rallied as best as he could, but Rose and Morley dragged the Eagle off the ring apron and continued the attack. Morley was about to hit the Eagle in the head with a steel chair when the Patriot left the ring and knocked his partner out of the way. The Patriot took the chair shot instead, which opened up a gash in the top of his mask out of which blood started pouring . Rose capitalized by ramming the Patriot face first into the corner post before shoving him back into the ring. He was easy prey for a Stevie Kick, and Richards rubbed it in by covering him with a knee on his chest while hitting a double bicep flex pose. Just like that, the title reign of one of PCW's most beloved teams comes to an end. If nothing else, it shows that the Playboy Club are as dangerous as ever. California Title Match : Rob Van Dam © vs. Jushin Liger Liger recently scored a pinfall over the champ in a tag team match, earning himself a singles shot at the California title. These two have proved to be among the most daring and exciting young competitors on the West Coast, and put on an absolute thrill ride of high spots and spectacular moves. Liger tried to duplicate his previous win with a running palm thrust, but RVD dodged it by going into the splits. He then sprang to his feet and knocked Liger flat with a spin kick, followed by a standing moonsault for the three count. Van Dam may be young, but he is definitely proving himself in the ring. Bootcamp Match : Sgt. Slaughter vs. Dennis Condrey After that incredible technical display, nothing else could follow it but raw violence. These two have been at war with each other for quite some time, and it has come down to Slaughter's specialty, the Bootcamp match. Sarge, coming out in full battle gear and helmet, was already furious at the treatment of his good friends in the Force Of July, and released a whole lot of angry on Condrey. Condrey, dressed in cammo pants, t-shirt and combat boots, was no pushover himself, and fired back with everything he had. The proverbial claret was flowing, with both men busted open early on. They waged war for so long, they were both on strange street and just throwing big bombs at each other, trying to knock each other down for good. Sarge finally hit the Slaughter Cannon, which was the last thing it took to get the pinfall. The double tough DI had got the victory over his hated enemy . On to night two.
rainmakerrtv Posted August 22 Author Posted August 22 Pacific Coast Wrestling presents Phoenix Firestorm from Arizona Veterans Memorial Coliseum, Phoenix, Night Two Bam Bam Bigelow vs. Big Vito The second night of Phoenix Firestorm kicks off with a match between two big bruisers. These two have tangled before, usually with Bam Bam coming out on top, but lately Vito has been making an impression as Jim Cornette's enforcer, getting some clutch victories with the LBK (Legitimate Businessman's Kick). Vito came out aggressively , bringing the fight to the Beast From The East, and Bam Bam fought back in kind. This was a ferocious melee, and Bam Bam was just barely able to avoid the LBK. The Atlantic City Fireball was finally able to catch Vito in the corner in an Avalanche, it was just able to hold him down after an Atomic Splash. It took considerable effort, but Bam Bam's rocket trip to the top continues. Iron & Steel (Tony Atlas & Larry Cameron) vs. The Headbangers The Headbangers are either foolhardy or resilient, but they keep coming after the former Tag champs with increased aggression. Atlas and Cameron kept putting them down, but the kilted duo have not let that stop them, and they continued chipping away against the veteran team throughout the match. It seemed like it was all for naught when Atlas trapped Mosh in his trademark Bear Hug. But the ref was escorting Larry Cameron out of the ring, and Thrasher came off the top rope with a double axehandle to break it up. The Headbangers then hit the Stage Dive on Atlas, and the ref turned around to make the three count. The Headbangers had pulled off a shocking upset, and the pockets of Headbanger fans in the crowd were going wild. Shane Douglas vs. Dean Malenko Shane Douglas is another wrestler fighting his way back up the rankings, with his goal being a rematch with Rob Van Dam, the man who defeated him for the California Title. The Hexagon are dead set on keeping that from happening, with Dean Malenko being a frequent opponent to the Pittsburgh native. The Iceman cranked up his usual viciousness in this match, catching Douglas in a number of painful weardown holds that he had to fight hard to escape. Douglas battled back valiantly but Malenko was always ready with a new trap. It looked like it was over for Douglas when Malenko dropkicked him out of the ring. But Douglas was able to catch himself on the top rope, and swiftly ascended to the top turnbuckle. He came off the top with a diving cross body press, and got the pinfall over Malenko. Douglas is determined to not let anything keep him from his rematch with RVD. The Smoking Gunns vs. The Dudley Boys The Smoking Gunns arrived in PCW as wingmen to Barry Windham in his feud with Rick Martel and ran headlong into the wrecking ball that is the Dudley Boys. For two teams with such contrasting styles, the end result was that they were evenly matched. The athleticism of the Gunns was balanced by the viciousness of the Dudleys, Billy and Bart's power moves versus the high impact lunacy of Bubba Ray and D-Von. After a long brawl, the Gunns were able to hit the Sidewinder on Bubba to pull out the win, but they kept slugging it out for a while afterwards, and I don't think these duos are done with each other. Steven Regal vs. Mike Awesome While he has had an impressive career in PCW, Awesome has found himself lately somewhat overshadowed in the League Of Gentlemen. Eager to distinguish himself, Awesome has had some tussles with the English Lion that has led to this match with Regal. This was shaping up to be a very close match, with Regal showing his trademark resilience and landing some hard shots on Awesome. Then, all of a sudden, Awesome changed gears and overwhelmed the Englishman. He knocked Regal out of the ring with a clothesline, then hit a diving Tope that crushed him against the barricade. He then pulled up the ringside mat, dragged Regal to his feet, then hit an Awesome Bomb on the exposed concrete. The crowd was aghast as Awesome shoved the unconscious form of Regal and got the three count. Regal had to be taken out on a stretcher, but Awesome clearly didn't care, as he had made a statement in undeniable fashion. Chris Candido vs. Buddy Rose Ever since he took his stand against his former allies in the Playboy Club, Buddy Rose and his crew have been relentless in their pursuit of Candido. The mentorship of Roddy Piper has not decreased the target on the New Jersey native's back, but Candido has used the lessons that the Hot Scot has taught him to good effect. With Rowdy Roddy in his corner, Candido taunted and jabbed at Rose, tormenting him while staying just out of reach. Little by little, he opened up his offense, hitting bigger moves while rolling through the Playboy's retaliation. It was all going well until Rose hit a cheap shot on Candido. He then pummeled Chris until he had him set up for the Inside Out Backbreaker. Candido countered it by flipping over Rose, then catching him with a rollup. One … two … THREE! Rose was stunned while Candido and the fans were ecstatic. Chris ran out to get a hug from Piper, celebrating a major victory over his former leader. Randy Savage vs. Brian Lee Savage arrived in PCW by diving right in the middle of Steve Williams' feud with the Terror Collective, but found he had jumped into a hornet's nest with the feud of his own with Brian Lee. Prime Time has proved to be a relentless opponent for the Macho Man, and the two have tangled in a series of fierce skirmishes. The two poured out all of their anger into the ring, and Savage was able to hit his double axehandle to the floor on Lee, which incapacitated Prime Time long enough to keep him on the outside and get the Macho Man a win by countout. Even so, Lee recovered in time to grab Savage by the leg and drag him out of the ring, and the two continued brawling after the match until security intervened. The fire between these two opponents is far from extinguished. Pacific Light Heavyweight Title Match : The Lightning Kid © vs. Jerry Lynn The Lightning Kid has really made a name for himself as Light Heavyweight champ, successfully defending hit title against a host of top flight contenders. One of his most persistent challengers had been Jerry Lynn, who has come close on several occasions to taking the title. Lynn was coming in hot on this match, determined to finally make the title his, and the Kid had to fight hard to keep Lynn at bay. It seemed like the Kid might have taken himself out of the match when he overshot a plancha and landed hard on the outside, but Kid, while still dazed, was able to make it back in the ring to beat the count. Several more pinfall attempts from Lynn came close but the Kid was able to kick out at the last microsecond. Lynn finally hit a Package Piledriver to try and put the champ away for good. One … Two … the bell rang, not for the final count but to signal a 20 minute time limit draw. A heartbreaking result for Lynn, with the Lightning Kid being able to escape just by the skin of his teeth. The Thrillseekers vs. The Oregon Wrecking Crew (Gary Albright & David Young) With victory in the Moondog Lonnie Mayne Memorial Tag Team Tournament under their belt, the Thrillseekers have been gunning for the Pacific Tag Team Titles, currently held by the Midnight Express. A substantial roadblock has been the former Golden State Tag Team champs , who have been determined to not be overlooked. While the Thrillseekers have done well in tag matches, Gary Albright has proved to be their nemesis in singles matches . The Animal continued to stand like the Rock Of Gibraltar, knocking the young Canadians about in several power exchanges. Jericho and Storm switched tactics, using double teams and running the legs off Albright. This proved effective, as Albright was huffing and puffing deep into the match. Storm tried to put away Albright with a sunset flip, but Albright blocked it and started raining down punches on Storm's face. Then Jericho caught him in the face with a back heel kick , and Storm was able to hold his shoulders down for the count of three. An incredible win, and would have to spring them into contention for a title shot. Pacific Television Title Match : Big Bully Busick © vs. Eddie Guerrero Busick has had an incredible run as TV champ, with a reign lasting over a year, but the challenge from Guerrero has raised questions as to just how much longer it could last. Guerrero has been on a hot streak of his own, and seemed to be gaining on the Man From Powerhouse Hill over the course of the match. Guerrero was able to hit an incredible top rope missile dropkick to the outside that was able to get a win by countout. A victory, but not the title. Nevertheless , Guerrero has to get a rematch sooner or later. Bret Hart vs. Chris Adams The feud that has dominated the attention of PCW in 1991 has been the one between Bret Hart and Chris Adams. Always intense, the feud kicked into high gear when Adams cost Hart his Pacific Heavyweight Title , and the two have torn into each other in a series of incredibly violent matches. Hart seemed out to break Adams' limbs with every weardown and submission attempt , while every shot Adams laid in on the hitman looked like it would leave welts. The two were so balanced that Adams went to low tactics to tip the balance. While Adams distracted the ref, the Headbangers snuck down to the ring and drove Bret face first into the mat. When Hart recovered and made it to his feet, he was met with a Superkick from Adams and went down like a sack of rolled oats. After Adams got the pinfall, he and the Headbangers started to triple team Bret, but Jim Neidhart and Owen Hart rushed out to the ring and ran them off. If this feud is going to come to an end, it will have to be in some way with no outside interference. Pacific Tag Team Title Match : The Midnight Express © vs. The Sons Of The Beach (Cannonball Grizz & The Sandman) Several years into their run in Pacific Coast Wrestling, the Midnight Express have established themselves with a legacy as the most decorated group in the history of the West Coast. At the point where some had felt their best days were behind them, Jim Cornette's men took the Pacific Tag Team Titles from seemingly unstoppable champs Iron & Steel. Since then, they have faced plenty of tough challenges, and lately have been facing the fast rising SotBs. Grizz and Sandman have been taking no guff and brought the fight to the champs in this match. The champs fought back with their trademark skill and double team moves, but the Surfing Superstars were a lot to contain. The Express started using dirty tactics to try to wear down the Sons, but it took a vicious Double Goozle on Grizz to just barely get a pinfall. The MX may have escaped this time, but the hungry young teams of PCW are bearing down on them fast. Pacific Heavyweight Title Match : Toshiaki Kawada © vs. Steve Williams The second night main event was one of the most highly anticipated in all of PCW, with the seemingly unbreakable champion Dangerous K facing the nigh unstoppable Doctor Death. Williams clearly had his game face on as he made his way to the ring, and the moment the bell rang, he exploded out of the blocks and bowled Kawada over with a massive clothesline. He continued to pummel Kawada, but the champ was able to fight his way back to his feet, using his trademark kicks to get some distance from the challenger. Early in the match, a knee from Kawada gave Williams a black eye. Williams got an almost immediate receipt, with a heavy elbow shot causing the side of Kawada's face to swell up. Williams made Kawada pay a heavy toll, landing some crushing power moves, but Kawada was able to fight out of what could have been the most devastating. For his part, the champ kept chipping away at the challenger with kicks and weardown holds. Every time it looked like Williams might be able to put away Kawada, the Japanese star was able to escape his grasp. Williams tried to get Kawada up for the Oklahoma Stampede, but the champ escaped with a slide down then caught Williams in a roll up. Dr. Death kicked out at 2, but Kawada followed up to a spin kick to the face of the seated challenger. This left Williams goggle eyed, and with an incredible effort, Kawada got him up and hit a folding power bomb. This was enough to get the three count. Williams gave a tremendous challenge, but Kawada was able to carry the night.
kevinmcfl Posted Friday at 08:15 PM Posted Friday at 08:15 PM Great shows in Phoenix as it showed off the depth of your roster. Some many great matches. The fact that Windham and Martel go head to head in a prelimanary match is WWF like in real life. I also found it interestng that Sabu gets the pin by using the table in a regular match instead of the DQ loss. ECW rules are in effect in AZ! I think this would be a perfect place for this. Just look at the fans at their annual PGA Golf event. They would love this. NIce touch.
spaldoni Posted 15 hours ago Posted 15 hours ago Firestorm! The opening match and result shows just how competitive and hungry the new teams are. Oh man, Dreamer gives Wright a beating he'll never forget! I wonder if this will finally wake Wright up Hamrick puts down a game Guido Ultimo makes it known he's still in contention for the LHW title I love how Martel and Windham went into pure brawl mode. Martel pulls this one out but I think Windham will want another round. Damn, did we just see the birth of extreme wrestling? Sabu has changed the landscape Severn's onto something and just made a breakthrough with Taz. Sadly, the FOJ's reign comes to an end. However, I can't help but feel happy for Scotty and Stevie. Their arc has been amazing. RVD pulls out another title defense in another thriller. After one heck of a war, Slaughter finally defeats Condrey to end night one on the highest of notes Night 2 After that performance, Bigelow should be considered a title contender I got to give it up to the Headbangers. They never gave up and finally got that huge win over Iron and Steel. No doubt about it, Douglas is ready for another shot at RVD. Gunns win the battle but as far as the Dudley's are concerned, the war isn't over Whoa! If Awesome was looking to make a statement, mission accomplished! It was a long road but Candido finally gets the best of Rose. Feel good moment of the night. Savage ekes out the win but Lee makes it known he wants more Aw man, Lynn was so close. But hey, who wouldn't want to watch these guys go another round Thrillseekers proved why they've rapidly become one of the top teams in PCW. That was some impressive teamwork Busick narrowly escapes Eddie again. I wonder what's going through Eddie's mind right now. Adams victory only puts this feud with Bret at a higher level. These two might have to settle things in a cage SOB's give the Midnights quite a scare. I agree, the young teams are coming on strong. How long can the Midnights survive? Kawada and Williams end the weekend with a banger. They gave the fans everything they could expect and more. Strong finish for Kawada and this makes him look almost invincible. Excellent job!
rainmakerrtv Posted 12 hours ago Author Posted 12 hours ago Pacific Wrestling Showcase from the Victoria Memorial Arena, Victoria, on ESPN / TSN, September 4th, 1991 Tournament Of Lions First Round Match : Ultimo Dragon vs. Shane Helms With Phoenix Firestorm now solidly in the rear view mirror, Pacific Coast Wrestling rolls on into the annual tradition of the Tournament Of Lions, where the rising contenders fight it out for the honour of being tournament champion, with this year the pot being sweetened with a $500K prize. Last year's winner Rob Van Dam parlayed his win into an incredible run as California Champion, so the participants this year are especially eager to come out as top dog, or lion as it were. The first match featured the former Light Heavyweight champion in Dragon facing off against one part of the fast rising team of the Serial Thrillaz. Helms impressed many in the crowd with his zeal and athleticism, but the experience of Dragon ultimately prevailed with him pinning Helms with the Asaii Moonsault. Interview : Don Coss stands in the ring Coss : Ladies and gentlemen, my next guests have made a very welcome return to Pacific Coast Wrestling … the New Foundation! The Canadian fans cheer as Owen Hart and Jim Neidhart make their way to the ring, slapping palms with the crowd along the way. Coss : One thing I did want to ask about, Owen , is that since your return you had been wearing a light cast on your left arm, but now it is gone. What's the story? Owen : The story is pretty straightforward, Don. Shortly before we came back to the west coast, I suffered an injury to my left arm at the hands of some Japanese wrestlers . There was some concern that it was a break, but luckily it was just a sprain. I took care of it and was on fairly light duty since I came back. That's why we didn't have a match at Phoenix Firestorm. Thankfully , I heal quickly, and I am now as good as new. Coss : That is certainly good news. But it seems like you might have simply gone from the frying pan to the fire. The Headbangers seem to have taken exception to your cutting short their attack on Bret Hart, and have let it be known that they have you in their sights. Neidhart : The Headbangers? That pair of skirt wearing punks? No offense, Roddy. All they are doing is just buying themselves a whole mess of trouble. HA! Coss : Not so fast, Jim. The Headbangers may be young, but they aren't to be taken lightly. They are coming off a big win over Iron & Steel, who are former Pacific Tag Team Champs. Owen : Don't get us wrong, Don, we aren't taking them lightly. But they have aligned themselves with creeps like the so called League of Gentlemen, and that gets no respect from us. They are going to find out what a mistake it is to mess with family business. Sgt. Slaughter vs. Brendan Shapiro Speaking of going from the frying pan to the fire, Sgt. Slaughter emerged triumphant in his bloody Bootcamp Match with Dennis Condrey at Phoenix Firestorm but finds himself possibly fighting a war on two fronts. Not only has Loverboy Dennis declared he will continue to come after the Double Tough DI, but Sarge had to witness the brutal assault on his allies the Force Of July at the hands of the Playboy Club. Slaughter seemed like he was taking out much of his frustration on poor Shapiro, even taking longer than usual to release the Cobra Clutch after the rookie had tapped out. Slaughter seemed to regain his composure when the bell rang to end the match, even reviving Shapiro and helping him get to his feet. I somehow doubt he will be as merciful to Condrey or the Playboy Club. Tournament Of Lions First Round Match : Jason Jett vs. Michael Modest Jett and Modest haven't faced each other since the feud between the Money Train and the Serial Thrillaz came to an official end, but the random tournament brackets put them back in each other's paths. With their shared history, they put on a highly competitive match, with both men coming very close to taking it until Modest was finally able to hit the Reality Check. A close match that showed how this tournament is always a much anticipated showcase of talent on the rise. Tournament Of Lions First Round Match : Chris Hamrick vs. Stevie Richards Confederate Currency was something of an unexpected highlight of last year's tournament, going all the way to the finals. In the first round, he would be facing "Dancin'" Stevie Richards, who was coming off the high of winning the Golden State Tag Team Championship. Despite his recent efforts, Richards still has something of a reputation for flightiness . He had Scotty the Body in his corner to help him keep focus, and really took the fight to Hamrick. He came very close to taking out Hamrick with the Stevie Kick, but Hamrick shut that down with a legsweep. Hamrick then went up top to hit the Confederate Crunch (diving legdrop) to move on in the tournament. Stevie was clearly crestfallen, but Scotty and, surprisingly, Tina Ferrari were both encouraging as they consoled him, telling him was a great effort he had put in. Little Guido vs. James Lim Guido may be coming off a loss at Phoenix Firestorm , but that hasn't diminished Jim Cornette's confidence in him, nor, for that matter, his confidence in himself. Guido was all over Lim, folding and spindling him until locking in the Sicilian Necktie (guillotine choke). The pint sized powerhouse continues to be Cornette's proverbial Ace In The Hole. Tournament Of Lions First Round Match : Chris Candido vs. David Young The show closed out with the last match of the top half of the first round of the tournament. David Young has had a solid career so far in the tag division, but has been somewhat overshadowed, literally and figuratively, by his partner, Gary Albright. The Animal is the Submission Champ and a terrifying presence in the Oregon Wrecking Crew, but Young is a tough customer in his own right, and came in with a bit of a chip on his shoulder. He would be facing Chris Candido , who has had a massive shot in the arm since leaving the Playboy Club and taking on Roddy Piper as his mentor. Both men were on the game, and the momentum switched back and forth throughout the match, until Young was able to catch Candido coming off the ropes , crushing him with his feared Spinebuster Slam. Roddy was there to console Candido, and he certainly had given an admirable effort, but today belonged to Young.
rainmakerrtv Posted 12 hours ago Author Posted 12 hours ago Pacific Coast Wrestling show from the Pacific Coliseum, Vancouver on Pacific Super Cards on ESPN / TSN , September 5th, 1991 Jason Jett vs. Alex Wright In Jett's second match of the weekend, we wound up falling to Das Wunderkind, who pinned him with a reverse diving cross body. The New Foundation vs. The Headbangers The New Foundation were caught somewhat off guard by just how determined the Headbangers were, and both teams wound up going to a double countout as they brawled outside the ring. Barry Windham vs. Big Vito Windham was determined to get back on a winning path after his loss to Rick Martel, and although the fearsome Vito gave him a battering, Barry gutted it out and took the victory with a Western Lariat. Steve Blackman vs. Eddie Guerrero Guerrero is hungry for a rematch with Big Bully Busick, and proved his worth by defeating the Living Weapon with a brainbuster. Bret Hart & Bam Bam Bigelow vs. Toshiaki Kawada & Chris Adams In a huge win, Bigelow caught Kawada in the corner with an Asbury Park Avalanche, pinning the Pacific Heavyweight champion. Pacific Television Title Match : Big Bully Busick © vs. Rick Martel Barry Windham came down to ringside and jawed with Martel, creating enough of a distraction for Busick to catch Martel off guard with the Bully Breaker (hangman neckbreaker) and defeat the French Canadian legend.
rainmakerrtv Posted 12 hours ago Author Posted 12 hours ago Pacific Coast Wrestling show from the Kelowna Memorial Arena, Kelowna, September 6th, 1991 The Thrillseekers vs. The Serial Thillaz A fast pace tag match that went to the Thrillseekers when Jericho pinned Maverick following the Lionsault. Ultimo Dragon vs. Dean Malenko A battle between former Light Heavyweight champs went to Malenko by way of a Texas Cloverleaf. The Smoking Gunns & Iron & Steel (Tony Atlas & Larry Cameron) vs. The Dudley Boys & Coast 2 Coast (John Tatum & Jack Victory) A massive 8 man tag match where Atlas pinned Victory following a piledriver. Golden State Tag Team Title Match : Scotty The Body & Stevie Richards © vs. Fastball (Bobby Horne & Robert Thompson) The new champs faced a fierce challenge from the fast rising Fastball, but Stevie was able to sneak in the ring and hit the Stevie Kick to Thompson, allowing Scotty to get the pin and successfully defend the titles. Pierre Carl Ouellet & Chris Hamrick vs. Rob Van Dam & Sabu PCO and Sabu spent much of the match brawling around the ring, but Hamrick was able to catch RVD with the Franken Hamrick, getting an upset win. Pacific Light Heavyweight Title Match : The Lightning Kid © vs. David Cash The Lighting Kid closed out the night with another successful title defense, pinning Cash following a top rope diving legdrop.
