The New Foundation vs. The Headbangers

 

This was another wild and crazy bout between these two duos that ended up as a no contest with all four men brawling in the ring at the same time.

 

Chris Candido vs. Sean Morley

 

Morley went right to the gutter with his tactics, hitting a low blow on Candido that staggered him enough that he was easy prey for a big clothesline. The Perfect Specimen then followed up with a top rope splash to steal the win.

 

Tommy Dreamer vs. Jack Victory

 

Dreamer seemed to have calmed down somewhat from Phoenix Firestorm, but was still competitive enough to put out Jack Victory with the Dream Weaver (modified sleeper).

 

Pacific Tag Team Title Match : The Midnight Express © vs. Fastball (Bobby Horne & Robert Thompson)

 

Coming off an intense bout at Phoenix Firestorm with the SOBs, the Midnights once again had their hands full, this time facing a determined challenge from Fastball.  It took quite a bit of effort, but Stan Lane was able to hit Horne in the back of the head with a Savate Kick to hold off their challenge for now.

 

Bret Hart, Bam Bam Bigelow & Steve Williams vs. Toshiaki Kawada, Chris Adams & Mike Awesome

 

This would be Williams' first match after his unsuccessful bid for the Pacific Heavyweight Title, and Dr. Death was out for blood. He wasn't able to get Kawada's shoulders to the mat, but he did crush Awesome with a Doctor Bomb and take the match. Awesome was clearly furious after the match, but the result went to Williams and his partners.

 

Cage Match : Roddy Piper vs. Buddy Rose

 

There was much anticipation going into this match, and that went off the charts when it was announced before the match that this would be the Final Bout between these two opponents. After an epic run, one way or another, this feud would be coming to an end. Rose was first out, getting mostly boos but a few cheers. Smug as always, this was his town, and he knew he was the King Of Portland. Piper was next, to the sounds of "Scotland The Brave" and enormous cheers, the Rowdy rebel as always. The match was a PhD Course in rulebreaking, with both men using every dirty trick in the book, and they both had an encyclopedia. Both men were busted open early, and the mat was smeared red throughout the match. Nothing they threw at each other would keep the other down for long. They finally staggered towards the cage and tried to ascend at the same time, both men worn down from battering and bloodloss. They reached the top simultaneously and started slugging it out while astride the cage. Sean Morley came down the ramp, no doubt for some nefarious purpose, but was intercepted by Chris Candido. Nevertheless, this still provided a vital distraction, as it allowed Rose to reach into his trunks and pull out a set of brass knucks. He hammered Piper in the jaw with the knucks, causing the Hot Scot to tumble from the top of the cage into the ring. Rose gingerly made his way down the side of the cage, falling the last few steps but landing on the outside of the cage. That was it. The Playboy was the ultimate victor in the feud. A valiant effort from Piper but Rose pulled out the win, and the King stays the King.

The Smoking Gunns vs. The Dudley Boys

 

Another crazy match between these two match, with Billy pinning Bubba Ray following the Rocker Dropper.

 

Fit Finlay vs. Big Vito

 

A battle between two tough guys that went to Vito by way of the LBK (Legitimate Businessman's Kick).

 

Sgt. Slaughter vs. John Tatum

 

Slaughter leveled Hollywood John on the way to the victory.

 

The Tasmaniac vs. Jason Jett

 

There seemed to be palpable unease between the Tasmaniac and the Sinister Minister, but that didn't stop the wild man from choking out Jett with the Tazmission.

 

Randy Savage & The Thrillseekers vs. Brian Lee & The Oregon Wrecking Crew (Gary Albright & David Young)

 

Given who was involved in this match, it's no surprise that it was an intensely contested bout, with Savage and his partners coming out on top when the Macho Man hit the diving elbow drop on Young.

 

California Title Match : Rob Van Dam © vs. Chris Hamrick

 

Hamrick came close to taking the title on a few occasions, but RVD was able to shut down the FrankenHamrick with a power bomb, then hit a Frog Splash to successfully defend his title.

I enjoyed the Piper-Rose cage match.  Rose is like Jerry Lawler in Memphis.  No matter what stage of his career, he is the MAN in PCW!  I love how you have kept this consistent since the beginning.

Also, I like how now matter the difference in ability (or at least what I think the difference is), you make it a quality match.  This just makes your jobbers or JTTS believable.  It also allows you to give your entire roster a push when ever you want as they have already had good matches.  Smart booking

I have to say, that cage match was one of the best blow offs in this game. So well written and full of drama. Piper gave the Playboy Club a lot of trouble but in the end, Rose proves he's still the man in Portland.

Pacific Wrestling Showcase from the Oakland Alameda County Arena, Oakland, on ESPN / TSN, September 18^th . 1991

 

Dan Severn vs. Jeremy Crawford

 

As he promised last week, Severn is making his return to the ring, although he seems to be easing back into the pool. With his friend , Steve Blackman, at his side, the Beast started out a bit tentatively, but easily dominated the rookie Crawford, crushing him with a series of suplexes before forcing him to tap out to the body scissors sleeper. A solid return, but the Tasmaniac will definitely not be so easy.

 

Tournament Of Lions Quarter-Final Round Match : Ultimo Dragon vs. Michael Modest

 

The next round of the Tournament Of Lions kicks off with hot rivals Ultimo Dragon and Michael Modest facing each other. These two have been squaring off in a series of hotly contested matches, with Dragon coming out on top at Phoenix Firestorm, but Modest has been hungry for another shot at the masked Japanese star. Modest came out very aggressively while Dragon kept his cool, managing to block many of the Serial Thrilla's attempts at offense. Little by little, though, Modest started chipping away at the masked man. Dragon attempted to put him down for good with the Dragon Bomb, but Modest countered with a flip over, then rolled him up with a Sunset Flip for the three count. Modest moves on to the Semi Finals, but you can bet these two will be seeing each other again.

 

Tournament Of Lions Quarter-Final Round Match : Chris Hamrick vs. David Young

 

The next tournament match has two contenders who survived tough matches in the first round. Both men were full of fire, with Young hammering on Hamrick and Confederate Currency definitely holding his own.  Hamrick was able to flatten Young with a leaping clothesline, then score the pinfall with the Confederate Crunch (diving kneedrop). Hamrick is setting himself up for a great run in the tournament , for the second year in a row.

 

Tournament Of Lions Quarter-Final Round Match : Alex Wright vs. David Cash

 

Maybe it is the mentorship of Dean Malenko, maybe it is the vicious beating he took at the hands of Tommy Dreamer at Phoenix Firestorm, but it seems that Alex Wright has finally gotten his head in the game. Das Wunderkind has shown much more poise and focus in the past few weeks, not to mention confidence. He was able to maintain control in his match with David Cash, dispatching the Money Train member with a German Suplex to earn his spot in the semi finals.

 

Eddie Guerrero vs. Keith Sowell

 

It's undeniable that Eddie Guerrero had to be frustrated after Phoenix Firestorm, winning the match but not TV title. He is determined not to let it get him down, stating his intention to get another shot at San Diego Battleground. He certainly presented a convincing case in this match, easily controlling the match with a series of spectacular high flying moves before finally putting Sowell down with the Frog Splash. Guerrero is on a rocket trip to the top, and nothing is going to stop him.

 

Tournament Of Lions Quarter-Final Round Match : Jerry Lynn vs. Little Guido

 

The show comes to a close with the end of the Quart Finals. The bracket featured two of the most exciting young contenders in PCW . Little Guido has proved to be a fierce competitor and a major part of Jim Cornette's operation, while Lynn has been lighting up the ring in a series of thrilling challenges for the Lightning Kid's Light Heavyweight Title. As expected, these two tore it up, with Guido dominating the ground game while Lynn took to the sky more. It seemed like the pair might go to a draw as it was approaching the 15 minute time limit, but with seconds to spare, Lynn hit a Tornado DDT and got a quick three count. The Semi Finals were now set : Michael Modest would face Chris Hamrick while Alex Wright would square off with Jerry Lynn.

Pacific Coast Wrestling show from the Cow Palace , San Francisco,  on Pacific Super Cards on ESPN / TSN, September 19^th , 1991

 

Steve Blackman vs. Mike Awesome

 

Awesome was clearly still angry from being pinned last week by Steve Williams. He took it out on the Living Weapon, overpowering him before crushing him with the Awesome Bomb.

 

Owen Hart vs. Mosh

 

The New Foundation have had their hands full with the Headbangers in tag team action, but Owen pulled out the win in a singles match with a Moonsault on Mosh.

 

Pacific Television Title Match : Big Bully Busick © vs. Dean Malenko

 

There was some concern in this match when Malenko badly wrenched Busick's arm in an armlock. Busick was able to force a break by getting to the ropes in time, then came back to hit the Bully Breaker (Hangman neckbreaker) for the win. Still, he was clearly favoring his arm after the match.

 

The Eagle vs. Buddy Rose

 

Both men came in somewhat battered, but on different trajectories. The Eagle has suffered some unfortunate losses, having lost both his title and his partner, and one can imagine him being quite despondent. Rose, on the other hand, is coming off the high of defeating his nemesis, Roddy Piper, to emerge triumphant in their feud. That confidence carried over into this match, with the Playboy smugly bullying the Eagle throughout the match. Sean Morley was at ringside, sneaking in cheap shots where he could, but the ref didn't seem to be doing too much to put a stop to it. Sgt. Slaughter came out to try to put a stop to it, but found himself waylaid on the way out by Scotty The Body and Stevie Richards. Rose and Morley capitalized on the distraction, shamelessly double teaming the Eagle at ringside. Then, the match took a drastic turn. A mysterious man, dressed in a black mask, black singlet and camouflage pants, jumped over the barricade wielding a black baseball bat. He slugged Rose hard with two brutal bat shots to the ribs, doubling over the Playboy. A terrified Morley tried to escape, but the interloper grabbed him by the hair, then drove him to the floor with an inverted DDT. Scotty, Stevie and Tina Ferrari managed to drag Rose and Morley out of the fray and to the locker room, all while security swarmed the mystery man. As security dragged him out, they stopped by Sgt. Slaughter who looked at the masked man … then gawked in astonishment. He must have recognized something about him as he then grinned and nodded to him before the masked man was taken away.

 

Barry Windham vs. Scotty The Body

 

Scotty came back looking still rattled from the chaos from the previous match but was able to compose himself in time for the match bell. Scotty was a bit off his game in facing the leader of the Brigade, understandably, but did put in a credible fight before being taken down by Windham's Superplex.

 

Pacific Heavyweight Title Match : Toshiaki Kawada © vs. Steve Williams

 

Dr. Death came up short in his challenge at Phoenix Firestorm, and came out gunning for Kawada, determined to make the most of his rematch. He bowled over Kawada with several big power moves throughout the match, and looked like might just be able to pull it off the win when Mike Awesome came down to ringside. Awesome pulled down the top rope when Williams was running the ropes, causing the challenger to tumble out of the ring. He then flattened Dr. Death with a huge clothesline before dashing off into the night, leading to a Kawada victory by countout.

Pacific Coast Wrestling show from the Selland Arena, Fresno,  September 20^th, 1991

 

The Sons Of The Beach (Cannonball Grizz & The Sandman) vs. Coast 2 Coast (John Tatum & Jack Victory)

 

The SoBs certainly are on top of their game lately, proving it by defeating the veteran time, beating Tatum by way of the Wipeout (while Grizz holds the opponent over his knee, Sandman hits a top rope legdrop).

 

Jim Neidhart vs. Thrasher

 

Neidhart continues to be unbeatable in Fresno, crushing Thrasher with a running power slam.

 

The Serial Thrillaz vs. The Dudley Boys

 

This was a wild and wooly tag match, with the Dudleys rough housing their way to a win with a double flapjack on Shane Helms.

 

Shane Douglas vs. Stevie Richards

 

The Dancin' Fool seemed quite spooked by the previous day's events, constantly looking over his shoulder. This left him prey for a Belly To Belly Suplex, giving the victory to Douglas.

 

Pierre Carl Ouellet, David Cash & Jason Jett vs. Rob Van Dam, Sabu & Lightning Kid

 

PCO and Sabu spent much of the match going after each other, but it was Cash who would end up pinned when Sabu hit a slingshot legdrop through a table. Oddly , the ref did not disqualify Sabu for bringing the table into the ring and allowed the pinfall to stand.

 

Pacific Tag Team Title Match : The Midnight Express © vs. Fastball (Bobby Horne & Robert Thompson)

 

The Midnight Express may have the edge in experience, as well as having faced Fastball several times of late, it feels like Trisa Haye's duo are closing in on them, and it took all they had for Eaton to pull out the Alabama Jam on Thompson, allowing the champs to escape with their titles by the skin of their teeth.

I always find this idea interesting and something I never pay attention two.  I still have so much to learn about how the territory system worked.  I recently listened to something on Georgia Championship Wrestling how Marietta, Georgia was under the umbrella of GCW but had their own TV show and promoter and their the Oates Brothers were huge while they were basically midcard  everywhere else in the territory.  

I heard other stories about the WWF and how they really played into the immigrant population in certain cities.  They had a wrestler from Portuguese decent whose name I can't recall and he was getting title matches in Providence becasue of the high number of Portuguese people here but he was a jobber everywhere else.

You always seem to have some reason for certain wrestler's success in certain parts of your territory.  Awesome job.  Sometimes there is a reason for it or sometimes a wrestler and the fans just click in a certain place better then others.

This dates back to the very start of the previous project. My much missed partner Crossface Chicken Wing had drafted the Crusher to the AWA. I was initially skeptical, but he assured me that Crusher was still a legend in the midwest, years after his passing. I always made sure Crusher was treated as important in Milwaukee, and this led to a lot of fun story lines and matches. Having a big territory in this project, I tried to use that to keep thing interesting. Canadian wrestlers are especially important to the fans in Canada. Win or lose, good or bad, Buddy Rose is always a big deal in Portland (and, to a lesser extent, the Bay Area). With his distinctive look and big personality, it was easy to imaging the Anvil being a particular favorite in his shoot home town of Fresno, so I played into that.

Pacific Wrestling Showcase from the Olympic Auditorium , Los Angeles , on ESPN / TSN, September 25^th, 1991

 

The New Foundation vs. The Headbangers

 

A few weeks ago, the New Foundation let it be known that they were not taking the Headbangers lightly, but even with that in mind, they didn't seem to be ready for the fire in the bellies of Mosh and Thrasher. The kilted duo have been on a high since defeating Iron & Steel at Phoenix Firestorm, and really took the fight to the Foundation. The Anvil and the Rocket were initially caught on the back foot, but rallied and got back in synch, with Neidhart catching Mosh coming off the ropes with a powerslam. He then tagged in Owen to hit the Hart Attack for the three count, but there seemed to be plenty of fight left in the Headbangers after the match. In an incredibly dynamic tag team division, the Headbangers are dead set on making their mark.

 

Tournament Of Lions Semi-Final Round Match : Chris Hamrick vs. Michael Modest

 

The Tournament Of Lions picks back up with a highly anticipated match between two hot competitors. Hamrick was a finalist in last year's tournament, while Modest has been the singles breakout for the Serial Thrillaz. Hamrick was very focused on getting the win in this year's tournaments and broke out some of the big guns in his offense. He was trying to set up Modest for the Southern Bellringer (second rope piledriver), but Modest was able to fight his way out. Modest then followed up with the Reality Check to earn his hard fought spot in the finals at Calgary Combat in a few weeks.

 

Interview : Don Coss stands in the ring

 

Coss : Ladies and gentlemen, my next guest is a real American hero … Sgt. Slaughter!

 

The Marine Corps Hymn plays while Sgt. Slaughter comes to the ring, followed by the Eagle and the black masked man who came to their aid the week before. Sarge and the Eagle shake hands with the fans, but the mystery man keeps his distance, with his black baseball bat slung over his shoulder.

 

Coss : Sarge, before last week, most people were talking about your Bootcamp match with Dennis Condrey, but now, all of the buzz is about your mysterious new ally.

 

Slaughter : Never mind about that slime Condrey, I'll get rid of him in due time. But lately, I've had my fill of those maggots in the Playboy Club. They ambushed my good friend the Patriot and now he is having to take some time out to recover. Then they gang up on the Eagle, and I'm not able to get to him to help him out. I didn't realize that I had another friend watching our backs. This is Agent Scorpion, the roughest, toughest operative the Special Forces ever trained. When the Patriot was taken out of action, he was assigned to keep an eye out for us, and when the Doughboy Club got up to their old tricks, he sprung into action and made them swiftly regret it.

 

Coss : Well, Mister Scorpion, you certainly are effective. But the last we saw, you were being dragged off by security and being held for the authorities. How were you able to secure your release?

 

The Scorpion stares at him.

 

Slaughter : He only talks to me and Eagle. (Scorpion silently nods) Well, that's kind of a strange thing. I came to where he was being held, about to unleash the full might of the United States Marine Corps to get him released. But I find out that Commissioner Dutch Savage had refused to press any charges, and was only holding him until I could speak on his behalf. He made it clear : he would release him and let the whole thing drop, under condition that he sign a contract to wrestle with PCW. We agreed to that, and now the Playboy Club are in for a whole world of trouble. They might have temporarily grounded the Force Of July, but they are about to face the might of the Special Forces!

 

The Serial Thrillaz vs. Ronnie Bardah & Vince Moua

 

Oddly , Fit Finlay was not at ringside for this match, but Mike Maverick and Shane Helms were still as energetic as ever. If anything, they seemed a bit more aggressive than usual as they completely dominated the two rookies, taking out Bardah with the Super Splash (Maverick climbs up to the second turnbuckle, Helms stands on Maverick's shoulders to hit a diving splash). Even after the pinfall, they continued to torment their defeated opponents, with Helms hitting the Nightmare On Helms Street on Moua before finally leaving the ring. I don't know what bee has gotten under the bonnets of the Thrillaz, but I wouldn't want to run into them in a dark alley.

 

Robert Thompson vs. Stan Lane

 

Despite the number of close scrapes the Midnight Express have had in the ring with Fastball, Sweet Stan didn't seem to be taking Thompson all that seriously. Big mistake, as Thompson was peppering Lane with shots and power moves throughout the match. Lane's experience advantage carried him through much of the match, but it seemed like Thompson was gaining on him. He finally caught up with Stan by catching him coming off the ropes with a scoop power slam. He then went up top and hit the Thompson Bomb (flying sit splash) for the victory. Don't take Fastball lightly, they are a young team on the rise.

 

Shane Douglas vs. Tom Laidlaw

 

Shane Douglas came into 1991 on a career high, having just won the California Title from Dennis Condrey. That didn't last long, as he soon dropped the title to Rob Van Dam and suffered other heartbreaking losses. It's a testament to the resilience of Douglas that he was able to turn that all around, getting back on track and getting back into title contention. He was all confidence and smiles as he made short work of Laidlaw, putting him away with the Belly To Belly Suplex. Just goes to show that you can never count the Pittsburg native out for good.

 

Tournament Of Lions Semi-Final Round Match : Alex Wright vs. Jerry Lynn

 

Alex Wright is another wrestler whose fortunes have shifted throughout the year. Coming in with a lot of anticipation, the second generation earned a reputation as someone with considerable talent and potential, but a disturbing lack of focus, easily distracted by any pretty woman who might be at ringside. Dean Malenko worked hard Das Wunderkind to keep his head in the game, and it has been recently that those lessons seem to finally be paying off. Malenko was in Wright's corner for this match, but so was the Sinister Minister. If anything was a distraction to Das Wunderkind, it was the Sin Min, who constantly rattled Wright with his shrill commands and badgering from the outside. Bad enough in any circumstances, but disastrous in a tournament semi final against an opponent as dangerous as Jerry Lynn , who is in the middle of a series of incredible matches challenging for the Light Heavyweight Title. Whenever Wright would get in a good rally, his manager would start badgering him to do more and Lynn would take over. Wright was able to hit a precision dropkick that send Lynn out of the ring, and he was able to take a breather. When he did, he looked over to Malenko, who locked eyes with him and nodded. After that, it was a whole new ballgame, with Wright able to shut out the Sinister Minister's voice and hit a series of moves that culminated in a swinging neckbreaker followed by the German Suplex for the pinfall. Even after the match, the Sinister Minister was on Wright's case about not winning the match sooner. Wright looked like he was about to say something, but Malenko put his hand on his shoulder, and Wright kept his mouth shut. Regardless, the finals were now set for a few weeks at Calgary Combat : Michael Modest vs. Alex Wright.

Pacific Coast Wrestling show from the LA Sports Arena, Los Angeles, on Pacific Super Cards on ESPN / TSN, September 26^th, 1991

 

The Thrillseekers & The Smoking Gunns vs. Coast 2 Coast (John Tatum & Jack Victory) & The Dudley Boys

 

An action packed 8 man tag with the Thrillseekers ultimately pulling out the victory for their team with a double dropkick on Tatum.

 

Bam Bam Bigelow vs. Scotty The Body

 

Scotty tried to bounce back after the shock that the arrival of the Scorpion has given to the Playboy Club, but he wasn't able to stop the Atlantic City Fireball from rolling over him, hitting a slingshot splash for the win.

 

David Cash vs. Sean Morley

 

If Morley had any worries about the Scorpion, he channeled it into anger, overpowering Cash and forcing him to tap out to the Full Nelson.

 

Steve Williams vs. Stevie Richards

 

Dr. Death is another wrestler channeling his anger, and this time, it was the Playboy Club who got in the way. Furious that Mike Awesome had cost him his shot at the Pacific Heavyweight Title, he took it all out on the Dancin' Fool, crushing him with the Doctor Bomb.

 

Pacific Tag Team Title Match : The Midnight Express © vs. Big Bully Busick & Shane Douglas

 

Busick has been seemingly unstoppable in his long TV title reign, but was coming into this tag match with his arm heavily taped following an injury from his title defense last week. It is never a good idea to show weakness in front of Midnight Express, and the champs were smelling blood in the water from the get go. Douglas did all he could to cover for his friend, but Busick was too much of a competitor to stay out of the match for long, and it cost him. Stan Lane was particularly eager to make up for his loss the day before, showing evident glee in tormenting the TV champ. It was Eaton who was able to finally put down the Man From Powerhouse Hill with the Divorce Court on his injured arm, followed by the Alabama Jam and the three count. Busick was in a lot of pain as he left the ring, with Douglas protectively staying by his side.

 

Pacific Heavyweight Title Match : Toshiaki Kawada © vs. Barry Windham

 

Fortunately for Windham, his rival Rick Martel was not here tonight, and the Dudley Boyz thankfully kept their noses out of this match. The result was no interference and Windham's most concerted effort to take the title from Kawada. The result was a thrilling match where it always felt that the title was just within the Texan's grasp, but the steely resolve of Kawada was able to keep himself just ahead of the challenger. After a long bout, Windham tried to put it in the deep freeze with the lariat, but Kawada ducked it and caught Barry coming off the ropes with a spinning back heel kid. He followed up with a brutal brainbuster to come out of the match still champion.

Steve Blackman vs. Dennis Condrey

 

Condrey continued his campaign for a rematch with Sgt. Slaughter, taking down Blackman with a Full Nelson Faceslam.

 

Dan Severn vs. Fit Finlay

 

Severn showed he was looking for tough competition to gear up for the Tasmaniac, having a fierce battle with Fit Finlay that the Beast took with a takeover suplex.

 

The Sons Of The Beach (Cannonball Grizz & The Sandman) vs. The Oregon Wrecking Crew (Gary Albright & David Young)

 

An intense brawl between two ferocious brawl that went to a double countout.

 

Tommy Dreamer vs. Brian Lee

 

The Bulldozer broke Dreamer with the Cancellation, sending a message to Randy Savage.

 

Fastball (Bobby Horne & Robert Thompson) vs. The FBI

 

Big Vito was doing well against Trisa Hayes' duo, but an over enthusiastic Little Guido came into the ring and accidentally hit Vito. This left Vito prey to a DDT from Horne that gave the win to Fastball. Cornette tore into Guido after the match until Vito interposed himself between his manager and his cousin, calming the situation down.

 

California Title Match : Rob Van Dam © vs. Chris Candido

 

Candido came incredibly close to taking the title, but at the 29 minute and 30 second mark, RVD caught him flat footed with a spin kick and a split legged moonsault to pull out the win.

Special Forces (The Eagle & The Scorpion) vs. Jason Linden & Eric Abraham

 

After the introduction of the Scorpion in the last couple of weeks, this would be the first view of the newly minted Special Forces in action. They may be a new team, but they worked together like they had been a team their whole lives, easily overpowering the rookies before taking down Linden with the Final Sanction (Eagle Irish Whips the opponent into a top rope clothesline from Scorpion). The Playboy Club may have thought they were rid of the Force Of July, but are facing a reckoning from Special Forces.

 

Ultimo Dragon vs. The Tasmaniac

 

There has been a lot of confusion of late regarding the Tasmaniac, which carried over into his match with the former Light Heavyweight champion. The mystery of whether he was, as the Sinister Minister claimed, a savage from the highlands of Tasmania or, as Dan Severn suggested, a former amateur prospect names Peter Senercha was certainly on the minds, but he seemed to have his savage persona in place. Part way through the match, Severn showed up at the ring entrance, but went no further than that, simply staring at the Tazmaniac. Tazmaniac, in return, stared back in confusion, and it took a lot of shouting from the Sinister Minister to get his head back in the match. Even after his charge got the pinfall by way of a T-Bone Tazplex, the SinMin was still on his case for not going for a submission. The Tasmaniac glared at him on the way back to the locker room , but no more came of it as Severn had since left.

 

Dan Severn vs. John Tatum

 

The Beast wasn't gone for long, as he was soon out for the next match. It looks like his confidence has returned, as he was not thrown by the trademark shenanigans of Hollywood John. No matter what Tatum threw at him, Severn capably fended off, showing the technical supremacy that made him leader of the Citadel . Severn dispatched Tatum with ease, forcing him to tap out to a Body Scissors sleeper. Despite the fearsome prospect of the Tasmaniac, Severn is showing all evidence that he is up for the challenge.

 

Interview : Don Coss stands in the ring

 

Coss : Ladies and gentlemen , my next guest is the Commissioner of Pacific Coast Wrestling … Dutch Savage!

 

The crowd give a warm response as the beloved commissioner heads out to the ring. He takes time to genially shake hands with the fans, but is otherwise all business .

 

Coss : Dutch … Commissioner Savage, you requested this time to address some concerns and make an announcement.

 

Dutch : That's right. There have been some rumblings about recent events in PCW lately, particularly regarding Sabu. Rumblings among the fans, the wrestling press, even some of the wrestlers. I will fill you in on how this played out in my office. At Phoenix Firestorm, Sabu defeated PCO with a Moonsault through a folding table. There has been some commentary regarding that match, with some quarters saying that the ref should have disqualified Sabu and given the match to Ouellet. To be candid, I was getting ready to call the ref on the carpet and read him the riot act. Then I pondered on it. I couldn't forget the loud and enthusiastic response from the fans when Sabu put Pierre through the table. It was certainly a spectacular moment. The PCW fans have long been a diverse lot, showing great support for wilder wrestlers as well as technical masters like Dan Severn and Dean Malenko. It was just a few years ago that fan groups like the Bull Pen and the Wild Dogs had a rivalry that matched the rivalry between their teams, the Wild Bulls and the Dog Pound. There is a long history of PCW being the home of popular but more rough and ready, chaotic wrestlers like Roddy Piper and Sgt. Slaughter. Even Buddy Rose has his own fan base , God help us. So , instead of dropping the hammer, I gave a new directive to the referees. I encouraged them to, using their discretion, give a bit more of a free hand in enforcement of the rules. It can be a disappointment to both fans and wrestlers for a match that is really cooking to be cut short with a DQ decision. So the referees have been encouraged to hold back on ending a match in DQ unless they feel there is no other choice. To do their best to let the match play out. Now, I know there are likely some people in the locker room who are licking their chops and planning all sorts of mayhem. So here is the warning. This is not a free license to chaos. This is not the Wild West. First off, keep in mind that anything you do to your opponent can just easily be brought back to you. If you want to make someone like the Sandman or PCO mad at you, be my guest, but don't be surprised if you don't care for the result. Secondly, don't mistake this for a complete free for all. I would prefer that payback be kept in the ring, but if an offense is egregious enough to warrant the ref or myself to make a response, the penalties will be commensurate with. If the hammer has to come down, remember that I swing a very heavy hammer. So there you have it. Let's see how this plays out.

 

The Smoking Gunns vs. The FBI

 

For most of this year, Little Guido has been the prize pupil in Jim Cornette's organization, but lately the shine seems to be wearing off. A mistake in last week's bout with Fastball cost the FBI the match, and there was some reluctance to let him tag into this match. The result was, once again, Guido getting involved without tagging in. While he was able to get in some good shots at the Gunns, another mistimed move led to Vito being pinned following the Sidewinder. Once again, Jim Cornette tore into Guido, but this time, Vito seemed reluctant to come to his cousin's defense, and this continued back to the locker room.

 

Mike Awesome vs. David Voce

 

Mike Awesome has long had a reputation as somebody who was tough to pin, but has been on an absolute rampage of late. With an angry Steve Williams coming for revenge, this is likely a show of strength from Awesome to show he is not intimidated by Doctor Death . Awesome simply destroyed Voce, crushing him with an Awesome Bomb. Impressive, but Awesome had better hope he can bring the same intensity, because Steve Williams is waiting.

 

Golden State Tag Team Title Match : Scotty The Body & Stevie Richards © vs. The Sons Of The Beach (Cannonball Grizz & The Sandman)

 

Ever since the dramatic arrival of the Scorpion and the havoc he wreaked on the Playboy Club , the Golden State champs have been somewhat off their game . Tonight, they managed to rally and not a moment too soon. The SoBs are a hot and aggressive team, and the champs had to be back in form just to survive. Despite the best efforts of the Surfing Superstars, Richards proved his hard fought reputation as a clutch player by hitting the Stevie Kick to the back of the head of Grizz. Richards picked up the pinfall, allowing the champs to once again escape with their titles.

Pierre Carl Ouellet vs. Jack Victory

 

Perhaps it was the announcement of the day before, where Dutch Savage had put the tables of his rival Sabu into play, but PCO seemed inspired to a new level of ferocity. He came off the top to defeat Jack with the Cannonball .

 

Fit Finlay & Michael Modest vs. Dean Malenko & Alex Wright

 

This match featured both of the finalists from the Tournament Of Lions , so the fans watched their exchanges with great interest. The Sinister Minister seemed to be carrying over his frustration with the Tasmaniac , badgering Wright to pay attention to the match. Wright was already doing the best he could, and , if anything , the SinMin was proving to be a distraction until Malenko whispered to Das Wunderkind to shut it out. Malenko was able to grab the win with a Brainbuster on Finlay, but that didn't stop the Minister, and both Malenko and Wright could be seen rolling their eyes as they left the ring.

 

Barry Windham vs. Rick Martel

 

A battle between two heated rivals that spilled to the outside and ended in a double countout as they brawled in the aisles.

 

Bret Hart vs. Chris Adams

 

Another war between these two which Bret took with a schoolboy rollup but continued the fight well after the pinfall.

 

The Thrillseekers vs. The Oregon Wrecking Crew (Gary Albright & David Young)

 

In the highly competitive Tag Team division, these two teams are near the top and had a highly competitive match which went to a 20 minute time limit draw.

 

Pacific Tag Team Title Match : The Midnight Express © vs. Iron & Steel (Tony Atlas & Larry Cameron)

 

The Express also seemed inspired by the words of Dutch Savage, pushing the limits of the referee's tolerance with their shortcuts. Savage was proved right in the response from Iron & Steel, who fought back with their own rough tactics. The Midnights were just barely able to pull out the win with Eaton's flying elbow smash to the back of the head of Atlas.

Eddie continued his quest for another TV title shot as he pinned Jett with the Frog Splash .

 

The Serial Thrillaz vs. The Dudley Boys

 

Both teams were eager to capitalize on the relaxation of rule enforcement , having a wild brawl until D-Von pinned Maverick following a diving head butt.

 

Shane Douglas vs. Sean Morley

 

Douglas was able to overcome the Perfect Specimen with the Pittsburgh Plunge .

 

Pacific Light Heavyweight Title Match : The Lightning Kid © vs. David Cash

 

The Lightning Kid continued his successful title reign by pinning Cash with the Moonsault Body Block .

 

California Title Match : Rob Van Dam © vs. Chris Hamrick

 

Hamrick may have been knocked out of the Tournament Of Lions , but he showed why he is a worthy title challenger, taking RVD to the limit before going down to a spin kick .
