I will say that you nailed the Rumble in the way it was written - I find these to be tough matches with so much to manage but you did a great job. I am excited about this WWF direction that you've got going. Just similar and just different enough to make it interesting and keeps you on the edge of your seat to what happens next! spaldoni Posted January 21 Report Share Posted January 21 Royal Rumble babay! King Haku starts the night with a surprising win over the Warrior. I didn't see that coming, but I loved it. It's cool seeing Haku get the push he deserves. Long live the King! Bushwhackers have some fun but the Rougeaus put an end to that and retain. Bravo lived up to his strength but Tito eked out the win. Tito was always one of my favorite IC champs. Ariba! Demolition gets robbed but this leaves room for more to come. Great way to book Rude's win over Andre. I thought this was very creative and well done. Rude keeps his title, but Andre's still the boss. Awesome job with the Rumble write up. This is hard to do, but you made it so easy to read. Zeus looked like a beast, but then Earthquake looked unstoppable. Then comes Vader! The Rumble always gives us a surprise entry and you gave us a big one, wow! Vader was a monster! However, Warrior's the last man standing and goes to WrestleMania! This was genius. I thought Warrior was slipping or moving somewhere else after his earlier loss to Haku, but damn if he didn't redeem himself in the best possible way. I can't wait for the Warrior/Rude showdown! Autistic Dragon Posted January 23 Author Report Share Posted January 23 1/22/90 on HBO Gorilla Monsoon and Bobby Heenan are in the studio and they are putting the Royal Rumble over as hard as they can. Heenan of course crows that his men left with all their accolades intact but Gorilla says that doesn't tell the whole story but they'll get to that throughout the episode. They'll also play a recent interview Mean Gene conducted with the Big Boss Man in which he'll respond to the shocking allegations made against him by the man called Nailz. *Unless stated otherwise, all matches were taped in Philadelphia by Prism TV) Our first match sees Earthquake takes on Brian Christopher. Christopher puts up a brave fight and gets a couple hope spots but he ends up utterly overwhelmed by the Canadian colossus who puts him away with the "Earthquake Splash. Back in the studio Gorilla puts over the "absolute rampage" Quake went on in the Rumble. Heenan admits that for a minute there he was convinced Earthquake was gonna sweep the rest of the field. Both men agree that everyone in the World Wrestling Federation needs to keep an eye out on the Walking Natural Disaster. Bad New Brown ko's some dude with the "Ghetto Blaster" in a match from RAW. More interesting than the match itself is afterwards when Slick comes down and tries to make nice with Brown who has a look on his face which just screams "oh no, this guy". Brown up and walks away in the middle of Slick's sentence but the Doctor of Style keeps his cool and acts like it's no big thing. Another match from Philly sees Koko Ware go 1 on 1 with "Hollywood" Bob Holly. Holly earns some decent heat with his preening including a recurring bit where he freaks out whenever Ware hits him in the face, or as he calls it his "moneymaker". Ware takes it with a Missle dropkick. Haku teams with the Powers of Pain to kill three poor bastards on Wrestling Challenge which ends with a double Powerbomb by PoP. Back in the Studio Heenan is hyping his boys to the moon, saying nobody can take the tag titles from PoP, not even Demolition. Gorilla points out that PoP only won at the Rumble because Demolition got disqualified. Heenan says they realized they couldn't win and took the coward;s way out. Gorilla asks if he was taking the coward's way out when he cheated to tripped Warrior when he was about to finish Haku. Heenan says he was pounding the mat to cheer his man on when that idiot Warrior stomped on his hand. If Warrior tripped when Heenan pulled back in pain it's his own fault. We see the interview between Mean Gene & the Boss Man. Boss Man says the first thing he wants to clear up is that the "stupid kid stuff" that got Nailz sent to the Cobb County Correctional Facility was getting blind drunk, hopping in his daddy's Cadillac and crashing it the drivers side of a pickup. The pickup driver was a young lady just about to enter college who was hurt so bad she had to teach herself to walk again. Boss Man admits the facility wasn't in the best shape cause it was underfunded but insists he and the other guards did the best the could with what they had. As to the allegations to him having it out for Nailz, Boss Man says there wasn't a week that went by without that man being in the middle of something. Whether it was cigarettes being smuggled into the prison or fights breaking out in the lunch line. If he and the other guards ended up treating Nailz different from the others it's because the man was a menace. Boss Man looks to continue but Nailz storms the interview area and the fight is on. Okerlund heads for the hills calling for security the whole time. In a match from Wrestling Challenge, The Bolsheviks defeat two randos with "From Russia with Hate" (backbreaker hold/elbow drop combo). During the match a promo from the Bolsheviks plays in which they voy to pluck the American Eagles wings! In our feature match The Killer Bees with Capt Lou Albano took on Badd Company with Slick. This is definitely the match of the night with commentary acknowledging that eith team would make formidable challengers to either set of tag titles. We do get a bit of shenanigans with Slick and Albano getting into it with each other but not enough to distract from the match. Ultimately the bell rings and Howard Finkel announces that the 15 minute time limit has expired. This is certainly a match the WWF could run back. The Heenan Family is definitely on top of the world. Bossman clears things up but man what a cool visual of a fight breaking out in the studio. This is great TV. Russia vs. America always sells in wrestling. Bees and Badd Co. go the limit. This match up is a show stealer. I hope we see a lot more. Looking forward to your road to WrestleMania. Back in the studio Heenan & Monsoon both hype the arrival of Haynes. Monsoon notes that he served in Vietnam before becoming a decorated champion throughout the Pacific Northwest as well as the Midwest. Heenan gives him credit for already having the second best physique in the World Wrestling Federation. Monsoon asks who's number one and Heenan incredulously says it's obviously Rick Rude. They switch gears and say we're officially on the "Road to WrestleMania" which will air live on PPV from the Skydome in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. They hype Mania's going international and cite it as proof that the WWF really is the revolutionary force in sports & entertainment. Monsoon Monsoon says tickets are already on sale and are flying out the door. At this rate they'll have the Skydome filled in no time. Heenan says it's no surprise since by now all of Canada knows Rick Rude is coming to Toronto though he warns that when all is said and done, some fans may have gotten lost in the exchange rate. Match #2 The Texas Outlaws (Dick Murdoch & Black Bart) defeat Butch Stanley & Chris Walker when Murdoch spikes Stanley with a Brainbuster and tags in Bart for a, perhaps unneeded, "Texas Trash Compacter". Match #3 (RAW) Hillbilly Jim defeats Pete Sanchez with a Bearhug. Back in the studio, Heenan tells a story of Jim trying to bring a pig into a restaurant that almost gets Monsoon to crack up. Sean Mooney welcomes us to the Event Center where we hear a couple of promos. Bad News Brown reminisces about beating up bullies in the schoolyard then Dr Tom Prichard says 1990 is gonna be the biggest year in wrestling yet and the WWF is exactly the place to be. Match #4 (Wrestling Challenge) Nailz w/:Doctor of Style" Slick defeats Mark Reagan with "The Good, The Bad & The Ugly" (Bulldog Choke) *We get a promo for the next Saturday Night's Main Event which will air live on NBC March 1st from the Beeghly Center in Youngstown, Ohio* Match #5 Demolition (Ax & Smash) defeat Brian Christopher & "Hollywood" Bob Holly when Holly left Christopher to fall victim to "Decapitation". Heenan & Monsoon recap the IC title match form the last SNME. We see a replay and it's clearly a close call whether or not Bravo got his shoulder up before three with our hosts of course divided. Nevertheless the ref's decision is final and we're told that Tito Santana's victory still stands. Match #6 "World's Strongest Man" Dino Bravo w/"Le Commandant" Frenchy Martin defeats Mike Justice with a running Powerslam. Feature Match. "The American Dream" Dusty Rhodes defeats Mr Saito w/Mr Fuji by DQ when the Texas Outlaws storm the ring and attack. Mr Fuji leads his client away while all four Outlaws beat on Rhodes. Funk has his men hold Rhodes up while he lines up a shot with his branding iron but Jim Duggan runs down with his 2x4. He scores several good whacks and when Rhodes gets back up the two of them clean house. Security come down and seeing things have turned against them, Funk orders a retreat. WrestleMania 6 is going to rock the Sky Dome! The Outlaws are on a rampage I always loved it when Heenan would almost make Monsoon break. The Good, the bad and the ugly. You've always been so creative with finish names. Damn, Holly literally left Christopher hanging. Looks like things are being set up for a Tito/Bravo IC title rematch. I like the importance put on the IC title here. I can't wait for a crazy Dusty/Duggan-Outlaws match. Things are flowing very smooth. Autistic Dragon Posted February 5 Author Report Share Posted February 5 2/5/1990 on HBO. *Unless stated otherwise matches were taped at the Mid-Hudson Civic Center in Poughkeepsie, New York.* Match #1 (Wrestling Challenge) The Bushwhackers (Luke & Butch) defeat Craig Brown & Mike Justice with the "Bushwhacker Battering Ram"on Justice.In the studio Henan wonders if the fans who et licked by the Bushwhackers need to get shots afterwards. Monsoon tells him to knock it off as it's all in good fun and Heenan responds it's all the fun of a roadside petting zoo. Monsoon gives fans the phone number to call to get tickets for WrestleMania VI. As soon as the words are out of his mouth, Heenan pulls a banana shaped phone from...somewhere, dials the number and orders 1,500 tickets. Monsoon asks why Heenan could possibly need that many tickets. Heenan replies that he was going to order more but decided he only wanted to invite his closest friends. Match #2 (RAW) "The Walking Natural Disaster" Earthquake w/"Le Commendant" Frenchy Martin defeats Jim Evans with the "Earthquake splash". The big man wasn't done yet and delivered two more splashes after the bell with Evans being carted off on a stretcher. Match #3 The Killer Bees (B. Brian Blair & Jim Brunzell) w/"The Guiding Light" Capt Lou Albano defeat Spike Jones & Paul Rose with the "Stinger" (double missle dropkick) on Jones. A promo airs during the match where, with his signature manic energy, Capt Lou says he's the guiding light and he's gonna guide the Bees all the way to the tag team titles daddy! Match #4 (Wrestling Challenge) The Ultimate Warrior defeats The Iron Sheik with a military press slam/running splash combo. A promo airs during the match where Warrior says the Gods have called him to take up arms and enter the battle to determine the destiny of the World Wrestling Federation. He calls on all the Warriors around the world to lend him their power so he may drive the sword of truth through the black heart of the vainglorious king who has driven these lands to ruin (one can only assume he means Rick Rude). Back in the studio Monsoon asks Heenan if he has a response and Heenan says he'll wait until the translator finishes figuring out what the hell that was. Event Center: Demolition says they'll do whatever they have to get their hands on the Powers of Pain again and get THEIR titles back. Rick Rude, with Heenan behind him, says it's a national embarrassment that he has to enter the grandest stage to defend the most prestigious title in wrestling against a roided up cartoon character. Match #5 Badd Company (Pat Tanaka & Paul Diamond) w/"Doctor of Style" Slick defeat The Mulkey Brothers (Bill & Randy) with the Thrust kick/German suplex combo on Bill. Lord Alfred Hyes, who's on Commentary for the match, reveals the move has been named the "foreclosure". Match #5 Big Boss Man defeats The Red Scorpion with the "Boss Man Slam". Mid-match promo see Boss Man promise to see Nailz, Slick and whoever runs with them face "hard time". We see footage from a recent episode of RAW where Jim Duggan was scheduled to face Black Bart. The match barely got started when Manny Fernandez ran down and attacked him. A 2-1 proceeds until Dusty Rhodes returns the favor from last week and makes the save. The four of them brawl until security and lower card wrestlers breaks things up. Back in the studio Monsoon informs the audience that the main event of the approaching Saturday Night's Main Event, which will air on March 1st from the Beeghly Center in Youngstown, Ohio has been set. "The American Dream" Dusty Rhodes will team with "Hacksaw" Jim Duggan to take on the Texas Outlaws duo of "Raging Bull" Manny Fernandez and Terry Funk! Match #6 Koko B. Ware defeats Kerry Booth with the "Ghostbuster" (Gourdbuster). Heenan is back on the phone with Ticketmaster telling them to hold his tickets and he'll pay them later. There's a pause before an indignant Heenan says of course he's good for it! A tired looking Monsoon looks into the camera and says Heenan does this every year and it always messes things up. Event Center: Jimmy Snuka details his training regiment which includes canoeing, fishing, scuba diving and surfing. Dusty Rhodes says it was just a matter of time before Funk tried something against him cause they can't be in the same territory with Funk gunning for him. Says they've fought all over the country and now their war has come to the biggest battlefield there is, the World Wrestling Federation! Feature Match. The Bolsheviks (Nikolai Volkoff & Boris Zhukov) defeat The American Eagles (Liberty & Justice) when Volkoff cracks Justice across the back with the Soviet flag allowing Zhukov to score the win. In a stacked tag division, Captain Lou promises big things for the Bees Yep, that was a perfect Warrior promo LOL. I'll say this, he's hyped for Mania Demolition and the POP are heading for another explosive showdown. Slick's Badd Co is getting some good attention. I can't wait for the Bossman/Nailz match Dusty and Duggan vs. Bull and Funk. Oh yea, SNME will be a must see Bolsheviks get one over on the USA. Enjoying Heenan as part of the announce team. While WWF was never my favorite as a kid, I enjoyed their announcers like Heenan and Jesse Ventura. SNME is shaping up nicely. Autistic Dragon Posted February 13 Author Report Share Posted February 13 Airing 2/12/90 on HBO. *Unless stated otherwise matches were taped at the Onondaga War Memorial in Syracuse, New York* Match #1 "The Mastodon" Vader w/"The Devious" Mr Fuji utterly demolishes Mike Young who at one point damn near does a backflip to sell a lariat Vader nails him with. Vader plasters him with an over the shoulder Powerbomb before finally putting Young out of his misery with the "Vadersault". Back in the studio Monsoon and Heenan are almost in awe of Fuji's newest monster. Monsoon asks where Fuji could've possibly found a man like Vader to which Heenan says for all they know, he paid to have Vader created in a lab. WrestleMania Update: WrestleMania VI is already shaping up to be the biggest event of the year and the stars will be out in the Skydome. Gene Okerlund inform the fans that Robert Goulet will start the show by singing "Oh Canada"! Match #2 "Hacksaw" Jim Duggan defeats Carl Nelson with the "Three Point" clothesline. A promo airs mid match where Duggan says he & Dusty Rhodes are exactly the American made team to take down a pair of dirty, no-good Outlaws like Funk & Fernandez. Match #3 (Wrestling Challenge) Bad New Brown defeats "The Boy from New York City" Jimmy Valiant w/"The Guiding Light" Capt Lou Albano with the "Ghetto Blaster". Slick came down to watch the match from the aisleway but made no move to get involved aside from occasionally bickering with Albano. Even after Brown secured the win he didn't move to get into the ring though he certainly celebrating like his team won the Super Bowl which seemed to annoy Brown more than anything. Match #4 (Wrestling Challenge) Non title. WWF Tag Team Champions The Powers of Pain (Barbarian & Warlord) w/Bobby "The Brain" Heenan defeat Sam Shultz & & Ludwig Kruntz after pinning Shultz with the "Pain Train" (Warlord sends him into the air with a back body drop where he's caught by the Barbarian who brings him down in a Powerbomb). Event Center: Sean Mooney hypes the WWF's return to Philadelphia in the Spectrum this Saturday night. The event will be aired live PRISM and will see "Ravishing" Rick Rude defend the WWF Championship against the Big Boss Man as well as "The American Dream" Dusty Rhodes go one-on-one with "Captain Redneck" Dick Murdoch of the Texas Outlaws. Match #5 The Genius defeats Mark Starr with the "Honor Roll" (Senton Bomb). We see highlights of Tito Santana defending the WWF Intercontinental Championship against "The Human Wrecking Machine" Zeus which ends in DQ when Zeus refuses to stop choking Santana. As security manages to pry him off the champion, Dino Bravo storms the ring and begins putting the boots to the still down Santana. Between that and Zeus going crazy it's a chaotic scene. Main Event Center: Mean Gene hypes the approaching SNME and says President Tunney has issued a bombshell announcement as ahead of their titanic clash at WrestleMania VI, both WWF Champion Rick Rude & Royal Rumble winner The Ultimate Warrior will compete in "pick your poison" matches where they will each face an opponent of the other's choosing. To add to the difficulty neither man will know who the other's picked until match time meaning both will be heading in blind. Match #6 Non title. WWF Champion "Ravishing" Rick Rude w/Bobby "The Brain" Heenan defeats Jerry Monti with the "Rude Awakening". Rude picks a suitably lovely woman from among the "Syracuse sweat hogs" and after confirming she'd never kiss a man in make-up, lays one on her that leaves her lying on her back in the middle of the ring. Feature match. WWF King of the Ring Haku w/Bobby "The Brain" Heenan defeats Jimmy "Superfly" Snuka. Snuka goes for an ax handle off the top rope but Haku wipes him out with a well timed thrust kick then shokes him out with the "Tongan Death Grip". Haku won't break the hold and the ref can't get him to let go. Things look bad until the crowd erupts as Andre the Giant makes his first appearance since the Royal Rumble. This makes Haku break the hold as he assumes a fighting stance as Andre enters the ring. Heenan is frantically ordering a retreat but Haku eith doesn't hear it or flat out ignores it as he lets out a battle cry and charges the 8th Wonder of the World. He lands a couple of blows but Andre scores a headbutt that sends him rolling out of the ring. Nice touch pairing Fuji with him I've said this before but Duggan and Dusty vs. The Outlaws is such a great old school type feud. Brown getting annoyed with Slick cracked me up. Both men would've played this scene perfectly Heenan's champs the POP are looking better than ever You're doing an excellent job with the Tito/Bravo feud. Such a heel move by Bravo A lot of intrigue with the pick your poison matches Rude's been dominating as world champ. If there's one man that could stand up to Andre, it's Haku. Great week. The Genius defeats Vic Steamboat by rolling through a crossbody and grabbing a handful of tights. Dr Tom Prichard defeats The Nightstalker with the running bulldog. Mr Saito w/"The Devious" Mr Fuji defeats The Tonga Kid with the "Saito suplex" WWF United States Tag Team Championship. The Fabulous Rougeau Brothers (Jacques & Raymond)(c) w/"Le Commendant" Frenchy Martin defeat The Commonwealth (Dynamite Kid & Chris the Benoit) when Raymond pinned DK with his feet on the ropes. "The American Dream" Dusty Rhodes defeats "Captain Redneck" Dick Murdoch by countering the Brainbuster into an inside cradle. Murdoch tried to jump Rhodes after the bell but Rhodes rallied and floored Murdoch with the "Flip, Flop & Fly". WWF Championship. Big Boss Man defeats "Ravishing Rick Rude w/Bobby "The Brain Heenan by DQ when Nails ran in and broke up the pin after the "Boss Man Slam". Nails then handcuffed Boss Man to the ropes while Rude & Heenan left the ring before grabbing Boss Man's nightstick and delivering several stiff shots before security ran in to chase him off. Really liked the quality of the TV matches you gave with Rougeaus vs Dynamite Kid and Benoit and Brown vs Valiant. I remember not really liking the WWF because at best we got was SD Jones losing to some bigger star. King Haku over Snuka was another great match. It seems Snuka has fallen from the top as Haku made him look weak by not releasing the Death Grip. That's ok, Andre sure looked strong. Pick Your Poison Challenge... Love it Dusty with the roll up. Match #1 Koko Ware defeats "Hollywood" Bob Holly with the "Ghostbuster". WWF Update: We see the assault by Nailz on Big Boss Man at the recent show in Phily then Mean Gene informs us that by order of President Tunney, Nailz and Boss Man will go one on one at SNME in a match where Boss Man's nightstick will be on a pole and whoever gets to it first can use it on their opponents as much as they want! Match #2 Terry Funk defeats Jerry Monti with the spinning toe hold. Split screen promo sees Funk say that no matter where he goes in wrestling Dusty Rhodes is following him like the world's fattest shadow. Says at SNME he's going to finally put "that yellla bellied mongoloid out of my misery" while his "prize student" Manny shows that "flag waving flunky" Duggan why you don't stick your nose in Texas Outlaw business! Match #3 Mr Saito w/"The Devious" Mr Fuji defeats Lee Peak with the "Saito suplex" Event Center: Sean Mooney shows us a couple of promos. Slick is with Badd Company and says his boys are bad News for any team in the WWF, especially the ones holding championship gold. He-he-he. We then cut to a furious Jimmy Snuka says he has worked far too long and hard to be anyone's victim, even a man as dangerous as Haku. Says he's gonna make Haku pay in the worst way possible, Jimmy Snuka is coming for the Crown! Match #4 Silver King vs Brain Christopher ends in a no contest when two large Samoan men storm the ring and beat the hell out of both of them. The larger one drags Chrsiopher in to a nearby corner, climbs to the second rope then just drops down on Christopher. Finally Mr Fuji enters the ring laughing like a madman and leads these two beasts away. Back in the studio, Heenan says he reached out to his friend Fuji and can report that the two men are called Alofa & Kokina and they are Fuji's Samoan Headhunters! We see a replay of a recent episode of Wrestling Challange where Dino Bravo is beating the tar out of some dude when Tito Santana runs down and starts beating the fire out of Bravo. The Rougeau Brothers come out to help their college but the Commonwealth comes out to even the odds. Thins really start to get out of hand when Earthquake stomps his way to the ring. Through a voice-over Mean Gene informs the viewers that President Tunney has signed for SNME, all four members of the Northern Invasion will face, WWF Intercontinental Champion Tito Santana, The Commonwealth and whoever they can find to round out their team. Match #5 Tugboat defeats Danny Wolfe with the "Capsize" (running splash) WrestleMania Update: Last week it was announced that Robert Goulet will start the show by singing "Oh, Canada". This week Mooney announces that the main event for the WWF Championship will have a special guest referee, Undisputed Boxing Heavyweight Champion of the world James "Buster" Douglas! Match #6 "The Human Wrecking Machine" Zeus w/"Doctor of Style" Slick defeats Mark Starr with a Argentine backbreaker rack. Feature match (RAW) Ultimate Warrior defeats The Warlord w/Bobby "The Brain" Heenan by DQ when the Barbarian interferes. The PoP double team Warrior who fights back as best he can but even he can't seem to match the combined power of the tag team champions. Bossman with the nightstick for the win is my bet when him and Nailz go at it. Poor Brian Christopher. Isn't the same as wrestling in Memphis. Oh well, he is still learning the ropes. "Yella bellied mongoloid" LOL Funk did throw out the best insults. I hope Funk and Dusty feud for a while. Snuka wants some revenge. I could visualize the craziness and intensity of that promo. WOW! Watch out WWF, the Samoans have arrived! SNME gets even better with an 8 man tag. Maybe Tugboat can be the man to stop Earthquake. WrestleMania always showcased celebrities. I have a lot of fun booking celebs for my biggest events. So, it's cool to see you doing this. Always a nice touch to make the event look like an extravaganza.
