Hopefully you guys enjoy as GWF's first PPV is next week. GWF Presents Sub Zero 02/04/1991 GWF Heavyweight Championship Tenryu(c) vs Rip Morgan Singles Match Zeus vs Giant Haystacks No DQ Angel of Death vs Abdullah the Butcher GWF Light Heavyweight Championship Alex Pourteau(c) Open Challenge Singles Match Bruiser Bedlam vs Bill Kazmaier The Smoking Gunns Debut
ErictheDragon Posted January 29 Posted January 29 I don't know if heavy metal was big in Texas back in 91 but Van Hammer seems to be winning people over. I'll say this for Angel, I genuinely believe he isn't scared of Abby....which you could definitely argue is dumb but it's also commendable. The New Breed is ruling the roost in the tag division. Good idea keeping the Zeus/Haystacks dialogue short and sweet. Bedlam and Kazmeir are gonna tear each other apart. Eerie scene as Vampire Warrior christens the Lords of Darkness. GWF seems like the perfect place for a couple of cowboys like the Smoking Gunns. Pourteau puts the entire division on notice that he's not ducking any challengers. Morgan is sick and tired of the Tenryu hype. Johnny B Badd lights up the room like only he can.
KingBoggs33 Posted January 29 Author Posted January 29 1 hour ago, ErictheDragon said: I don't know if heavy metal was big in Texas back in 91 but Van Hammer seems to be winning people over. Probably not, but I was a huge fan of Heavy Metal Van Hammer when I was a kid. San Antonio has no choice but to feel how I did back in the day. lol That is what I love about these games.
rainmakerrtv Posted January 29 Posted January 29 Never forget the appearance of Russian hard rock group Gorky Park with Kerry Von Erich, or the fact that Dazed And Confused was set in Texas. I have no doubt that hard rock and heavy metal were as popular in Texas as it was anywhere else. Given the looks of a lot of the wrestlers in the Texas feds (The Von Erichs, the Simpsons, etc.) , I am sure Van Hammer could have gotten over.
LastStopTour Posted February 1 Posted February 1 I remember heavy metal/hard rock music in Texas at this time, so the gimmick would get over. I ask a question ... Tell me you've never been to San Antonio without telling me you've never been to San Antonio? The answer ... The Sub Zero poster. Nice piece of artwork, but that made me laugh when I saw it.

Yeah, I only did it for a winter themed episode of MLW. There really wasn’t much thought put into it beyond the fact that it was winter. I’ll be more thoughtful about that in the future.
LastStopTour Posted February 1 Posted February 1 Don't get me wrong, it is a great piece of artwork - if you created it from scratch, used AI or pilfered it from some place. Just know that San Antonio IS NOT a cold weather place ... unless it was used to promote Mortal Combat or something.
spaldoni Posted February 1 Posted February 1 Van Hammer makes a rock'n debut. I'm positive this gimmick would get over in a territory like this. After that promo, I would pay to see Angel go at it with Abby. Oh yea an appearance by the MOD Squad! Right call having New Breed go over, but still cool seeing the MOD Squad Very creative split screen promos from Zeus and Haystacks. Talk about a collision! Another anticipated big man brawl between Kaz and Bedlam. Great heated segment The Lords of Darkness have been born. The Smoking Gunns are riding into town Pourteau is looking and feeling the part. An open challenge is always a gutsy move Morgan's pissed but I'm not sure he knows what he's dealing with Johnny B Badd ends the show on a high charismatic note Love the PPV poster. Pretty damn cool.
KingBoggs33 Posted February 4 Author Posted February 4 GWF Presents Sub Zero 02/04/1991 GWF Heavyweight Championship Tenryu(c) vs Rip Morgan {A hard-hitting match in the Main Event. Tenryu pushes Rip Morgan to the depths that he isn't used to being in. This match goes about 18 minutes of solid action, but it's not the prettiest match. Tenryu does what he can, but after about 12 minutes, Rip is just gassed. Tenryu finally finishes off Rip with a POWERBOMB! Tenryu retains the title, but as he is celebrating, out of the curtain comes BRUISER BEDLAM! He is held back by security as Tenryu puts the GWF Title on the ground and tells him to bring it on! Singles Match Zeus vs Giant Haystacks {This match is bowling shoe ugly. No doubt about that. These monsters put on probably the ugliest match you will ever see, but what they lack in skill, they make up for by beating each other up. They strike with furious intent, but the match is just....well....not good....Zeus finally finishes this match off with three massive clotheslines that take Haystacks off his feet and then a leg drop for a three count! Zeus celebrates as the crowd doesn't care!} No DQ Angel of Death vs Abdullah the Butcher {Angel of Death lives up to the name as he and The Butcher just beat the crap out of each other. The fans, unlike the Haystacks match, eat this one up! They love the fight, the blood, this match is just everything that they wanted. The Butcher is in rare form tonight as he put on his working boots and actually sold a little bit. Death uses a steel chair to fend off Abdullah, but in the end, the fans want one thing, and they get it. THE FORK! Abdullah grabs the fork and starts stabbing Death in the arm, and in the head before finally Death hits the mat an Abdullah drops an Elbow Drop and picks up the victory! Death is helped to the back, a bloody mess, and Abdullah has the crowd in a frenzy as he starts stabbing a buckle!!!} GWF Light Heavyweight Championship Alex Pourteau(c) vs Marcus Alexander Bagwell {The fans don't know what to think of this rookie Bagwell, who is a good-looking man and in tremendous shape. The ladies are hootin' and hollerin' as Alex doesn't look impressed by this rookie and doesn't take him seriously. This proves costly, though, as the young Bagwell might be a rookie and might be green, but this man is the real deal. The ladies are going wild as Bagwell is showing tremendous skill and athleticism. Alex is actually being outworked in this match, and it shows. Bagwell controls the early parts of the match, but after a few moments, is when that changes, and Alex uses his veteran instinct to take back over the match. This match is going to full time limit as we have 3 minutes left and both men are still not able to keep the other down. We get down to less than a minute. Bagwell is able to drop Alex with a dropkick. Alex is dazed as Bagwell leaps off the top rope for a Sunset Flip, but Alex, though, can counter into a ROLL UP! 1....2...3!!! Alex retains the title and escapes up the ramp as Bagwell knows he was moments away and smashes the mat in anger. Alex is breathing heavy but has a smile as he retains! Singles Match Bruiser Bedlam vs Bill Kazmaier {Let's face it Bill isn't a great worker, but he isn't going to back down from Bruiser. A solid match, honestly. Bill holds his own and uses his power to control the mayhem that is this brawler Bruiser, but in the end, it just wasn't meant to be. Bill grabs Bruiser in a BEARHUG, but Bruiser rakes the eyes and then finishes off Bill with a massive body blow followed by a SPLASH FROM THE TOP! 1...2...3!!! Bruiser wins! The Smoking Gunns Debut {Billy and Bart make their Texas debut, and these fans are loving them some Smoking Gunns! They face off against 2 enhancement talents that aren't even worth knowing their names. Billy and Bart work stiff and they work excellently as a tag team. You can tell early that Billy is the worker of the group as he looks fantastic and Bart is just a tough son of a gun...pun intended...Bart knocks out one of these poor saps with a NASTY LEFT HOOK! The fans are going wild as Billy grabs a lasso and actually HOG TIES the other scrub as Bart makes the cover on the jabroni that he knocked out! The Smokin' Gunns are here in the GWF, and they have the crowd rocking! As they are celebrating, though, here comes The New Breed, and they walk up to The Gunns, and we have a stare down between these two teams! The fans want a fight, but The New Breed laugh before heading back up the ramp.
ErictheDragon Posted February 4 Posted February 4 The Gunns hit the bulls eye in their debut but run afoul of the New Breed. Bagwell shines in defeat. Angel finds out that Abby earned his reputation the hard way. Zeus probably got the biggest pop of his career when he finally ended that match with Haystacks. Big night for Bedlam. He puts down big Bill and positions himself as the next challenger for Tenryu.
kevinmcfl Posted February 5 Posted February 5 Great continued use of the free agent list. Working with WCW is a great move under your current situation. I would caution you that many of the wrestlers you are using might not be ready for the limelight as they are still really green. People like Rip Morgan, Tenryu and Angel of Death can get some pretty good heat as they are pretty good in the ring for an upstart company like yours but people are rookies and would still be learning the ropes. Please don't take this as a negative. I am enjoying what you are doing and we all have rushed a wrestler or two or gone the other way and kept them in the main event way past their prime.
LowBlowPodcast Posted February 6 Posted February 6 Really fun, gritty GWF card that knew exactly what it wanted to be. Tenryu vs. Rip Morgan was a tough, physical main event that did its job, and the post-match stare down with Bruiser Bedlam instantly set up a money feud. Zeus vs. Haystacks was ugly as hell but at least leaned into that lane, while Abdullah vs. Angel of Death absolutely delivered the kind of violent chaos that crowd wanted and ate up. The Light Heavyweight title match was a standout — Bagwell looked like a future star without hot-shotting him, and Pourteau stealing the win was the right call. Bedlam beating Kazmaier kept him rolling strong, and the Smoking Gunns debut was perfectly done: crowd-pleasing, creative, and immediately positioning them against The New Breed. Overall, it felt rough, loud, and very on-brand for GWF, with clear direction coming out of almost every match.
spaldoni Posted Saturday at 08:16 PM Posted Saturday at 08:16 PM Watts wastes no time in getting into the pay per view game Smoking Gunns impress the fans but not the New Breed. Kaz gives Bedlam his first real test but Bedlam aces it Rookie Bagwell puts in a tremendous effort but Pourteau shows why he's the champ Angel and Abby tear it up and tear into each other. Abby's next opponent better get that fork from him LOL, loved your spot on description for the Zeus/Haystacks match. Even though it wasn't pretty I believed it served its purpose Looks like Morgan didn't have enough in the tank to dethrone Tenryu. It's Bedlam's turn now. This is the money match.
LastStopTour Posted Saturday at 09:51 PM Posted Saturday at 09:51 PM The Smoking Gunns will get over well in Texas. I remember Alex Porteau from his time in the GWF. He's another that will excel in the area (already has the LW Title). The Pug already has the LW title and is off and running. Bagwell will make a good foil for Porteau OR will turn around and become his tag partner. The two are really the same side of the coin.
KingBoggs33 Posted Wednesday at 04:48 PM Author Posted Wednesday at 04:48 PM GWF Major League Wrestling #5 2/11/1991 Craig Johnson and Bruce Prichard {Show opens with clips from last week's edition of MLW. It reviews the big moments. This package heads straight to the ringside, where The Smoking Gunns are rowdy tonight!} The Smoking Gunns defeat Lenny St. Clair and Bret Como The Gunns get a big reaction, and they shoot off, actually smoking guns during their entrance. They play up the cowboy gimmick, and this crowd is rocking. We get some solid tag action and a good match, and that is when The Smoking Gunns win this match. Billy and Bart are going wild when they grab a lasso and hog tie both Clair and Como. The Gunns cut a promo and say they are ready to round up the competition in the GWF. {Promo with Bruiser Bedlam. He calls out Tenryu and says he WILL become the next GWF Heavyweight Champion. Heavy Metal Van Hammer wins a squash match After Van Hammer wins, he grabs his electric guitar and starts a chant, but as he is celebrating, two men come down the ramp and headbang to the music he is playing. The fans are rocking in the arena as Hammer and these two men are partying! [Johnny B. Badd struts to the ring in glittering gear, shadowboxing and blowing kisses.] Johnny B. Badd: “Mercy! Mercy! Did you see that knockout?! That’s what happens when you step in the ring with the baddest man throwin’ hands! I float like a butterfly, I sting like a bee, and I look GOOD doin’ it!” [Crowd cheers loudly.] Johnny B. Badd: “Ain’t nobody stoppin’ this momentum, baby! Victory looks mighty fine on Johnny B—” [Music cuts. Lights dim. Heavy footsteps echo. Zeus walks to the ring, stone-faced.] Zeus: “You talk too much.” [Crowd gasps.] Zeus steps closer. “Next week. You. Me.” [He drops the mic.] Johnny B. Badd (fired up): “Big man, if you want the spotlight, step into it! Next week you’re findin’ out why they call me Johnny B. Badd!” [Zeus stares him down before slowly exiting. Badd shadowboxes toward the camera as the segment ends.] [Scene opens with neon pink and teal graphics flashing across the screen. Saxophone-heavy 90s stock music plays. The camera pans across a cheesy Hollywood-style studio set with palm trees and a giant glittery “V” in the background.] Narrator (deep dramatic voice): “In a world of larger-than-life superstars… one man is ready to turn up the spotlight…” [Cut to Val Venis leaning against a convertible, wearing sunglasses and a sleeveless leather vest. He slowly lowers the glasses and smirks at the camera.] Val Venis: “Hello, ladies… and gentlemen.” [He winks. A sparkle effect hits the screen. Very 1991.] Val Venis: “You see, I’ve traveled the world… from the bright lights of Hollywood… to the sun-soaked beaches of California… perfecting my craft.” [Cut to clips of him doing exaggerated push-ups, flexing in slow motion, signing autographs for screaming fans, and rehearsing lines in front of a mirror like an over-the-top actor.] Val Venis: “Some men chase championships. Some men chase fame. But the Big Valbowski? I am the main attraction.” [He walks onto a mock movie set, grabs a director’s megaphone.] Val Venis: “And when I step into the ring… the cameras roll… the crowd roars… and the spotlight shines where it belongs.” Narrator: “Coming soon… to arenas everywhere…” Val Venis (smirking): “Get ready for prime time… because in 1991… everybody’s about to feel the… spotlight.” [He tosses the sunglasses at the camera. Freeze frame. Neon “VAL VENIS” graphic slams onto the screen with a cheesy explosion sound effect.] Marcus Alexander Bagwell defeats Blue Demon Jr. Two youngsters going all out in this match. These two men put on a great match. Bagwell who debuted last week is a true blue chipper. The dude is ripped and the ladies love him. The men not so much but he is a true fan favorite. Demon shows signs of winning but Bagwell is able to catch Demon with a Flying Crossbody for the victory. A very mixed reaction with mostly ladies cheering for him. [Scene opens inside a dimly lit bar. Pool table. Neon beer signs buzzing. Country rock playing low in the background. D-Von sits alone at the counter. Leather jacket. Quiet. Focused. He takes a sip of his drink.] Bartender (nervous): “You ain’t from around here, are ya?” [A group of rough-looking locals surrounds D-Von.] Guy #1: You are in the wrong place. Guy #2 shoves his shoulder. Think you’re tough? [D-Von slowly stands. Doesn’t say a word. Guy #1 swings. D-Von blocks it and drops him with one punch. The others jump on him. Chairs crash. Glass shatters. Just as the numbers overwhelm him, the bar doors BURST open. Bubba Ray steps in. Calm. Dead serious.] Bubba Ray: That’s my brother. [Silence. Then chaos.] [Bubba charges in. Heavy right hands. One guy gets thrown over a table. Another slammed into the jukebox. D-Von regains his footing. Now it’s two against many. Quick cuts. Fists flying. A table flips. The Dudleys stand tall as the bar clears out. Police sirens faint in the distance.] D-Von (breathing heavy): Shouldn’t have started it. Bubba Ray: They never learn. [They walk toward the door. Bubba stops. Turns to camera.] Bubba Ray: We’re the Dudleys. D-Von: And we stick together. [Door slams. Screen fades to black.] Main Event The New Breed defeats Pain and Agony with Vampire Warrior The New Breed wins this match. Warrior looks upset over the loss and leaves Pain and Agony in well....pain and agony...The New Breed have microphones, and they are starting to fuss and complain about why these fans cheer for two men playing cowboys. This is when Bill Watts comes out and says next week he will make his decision. The GWF Tag Team Champions will be crowned, The Smoking Gunns against The New Breed!
ErictheDragon Posted Wednesday at 08:01 PM Posted Wednesday at 08:01 PM Bedlam officially calls out the Final Boss. I think Hammer just met his two biggest fans. Badd might not be so pretty after Zeus gets done with him. Good job making a family friendly version of Val Venis work. Well Bagwell's won half the crowd over at least. Thou shalt not mess with the Dudley's! Vampire Warrior already seems displeased with his latest disciples. The New Breed call out the Gunns and they'll get them next week with the winners becoming GWF's first tag champs.
