RVD & Sabu arrested for drug possession
Resident Evil replied to Loss's topic in NMB Wrestling Archive
From what I hear Vince is really against pot use. -

"hiatus" = code for failed drug test?

Correct me if I'm wrong but I thought it was practically "confirmed" that Masters failed the drug test. -

From PWI Insider Come to your own conclusions. Unless Angle is working everyone in the back than there is something else wrong besides the ordinary. Kurt Angle will be taking time off very soon. As of late, Kurt Angle has been walking around like "the walking dead". People say that he's hurting all over all the time, but being injured isn't what he's taking time off for, and instead it's because of some sort of personal issue. -Kurt Angle stayed totally to himself at the last ECW show Tuesday night and hasn't been sociable at all with anyone in ECW. He also showed up very late for the ECW show at the ECW Arena. They speculate that Kurt Angle is now looking at everything like this just isn't worth his time anymore (being in ECW that is). -

Resident Evil replied to sek69's topic in NMB Wrestling Archive
Perhaps but there are reasons cited for both of them. Angle is having personal issues, poor health problems and may be disheartened with his ECW role. He was reportably like a zombie off by himelf in the ECW locker room. There's a newstidit about this somewhere. Maybe someone can post it. Woman went through a neck operation and can't do anything. Benoit is also banged up and may not be happy with certain going ons in the WWE. Does anyone know when Benoit's coming back? -

Don't worry. It's not a spoiler but it is a MUST SEE. Man alive, I can't wait for the next Rocky movie. http://youtube.com/watch?v=eQzcbnjtPpE&sea...=Rocky%20Balboa -
I'll post it than and give credit to you.

Yeah, Cena at the top does create interest. There's no doubt about that. Loss, can you PLEASE make a one time exception and post this on smartmarks? I'll give ya $5 someday if you do so*. I'd just love to see the responses to this over there. Oh, the fun I'd have reading that thread. I haven't been watching any Raw at all lately except for the Cena vs RVD bout tonight which was a pretty fun one. How's the WWE giving Cena's dissers more reasons to hate him and his fans more reasons to like him? Interestingly tonight, the fans were boing RVD and I'm really not sure why. I don't think they were boing Cena tonight but I could be wrong. I wonder if it has anything to do with the ECW vs WCW feud? Cena so has to go wrestle in some kind of "purist" wrestling league and become the top heel there. Pin all his opponents with the five knuckle shuffle. * maybe
-
Do you not like TSM? I didn't watch the PPV but let me get this straight So HHH gets to main event the PPV over Cena vs Sabu and RVD vs Edge plus they devalue Smackdown by bringing Orton over plus they devalue Angle tonight so Orton stays strong for HHH plus HHH gets renewed by turning face plus they knock down the "new star" Sabu and ECW. Yeah, and it looks like Edge has no direction either with Orton probably ready to take his spot. Gotta love the WWE. HHH is a smart boy at times.

Sorry Loss, but I completely disagree with that statement. If Heenan did the typical heel shtick it makes the NWO look more fake and takes the heat off them. Heenan doing what he did put the NWO over as being more serious. This was a time when people were amazed at what was happening. There were even stories in the newspaper about the legal battle between WCW and WWF and how two big names had jumped ship. You could in no way stop the NWO's momentum. I believe Heenan was responsible for a few of links of the NWO heatchain (I love making new words up) Same thing with Zbysko. I don't know, WP, I've always thought the only thing missing from the nWo was Bobby Heenan blatantly sucking up to them, wearing an nWo T-shirt on the air (even if it wasn't given to him), constantly praising them and Hogan (as if he'd never bashed Hogan ever in his career), etc. just strictly out of fear of them. If anyone could pull that off realistically, it was Bobby. Well, Heenan would do that a tiny bit in an obvious suck up fashion But if I were a Heenan I wouldn't wear a shirt because I wouldn't want WCW along with the NWO to be upset with me. The NWO's not trustworthy and if I betrayed WCW than who's even going to give a thought about protecting me? I'm staying with the home team. Even I got loyalty despite being a bad guy. Now, the importance of the NWO can not be overstated. It was bigger than Heenan and it was larger than life. I think we all have moments where the NWO angle really shone for us. Perhaps it was the very start of it when Hall appeared on Nitro or Hogan's turn at Bash at the Beach or the Outsiders attacking Rey Mysterio Jr. or the long time WCW rivals getting into the same ambulance after said incident. One of those incidents that really put over the NWO was when Heenan walked off of Nitro because he was worried about his safety. That sold the NWO in its formation stages and one of the NWO's defining moments. You can't cut off that momentum in its early stages (Remember, Heenan would still cheer for the WCW heels if it was WCW vs WCW so it wasn't like he was a new person or anything; he was just kayfabe legitably concerned about the NWO invaders) If Heenan had decided to go the typical "Wrestling is fake because the heel announcers always have to cheer the bad guys no matter what" than I think that would have hurt the NWO a good bit. Instead he used the tired old biased heel announcer cheerleading bit to put over the threat and reality of the NWO. It's like weightraining. Say you're at 100pds for 10 reps of something. A good loss of strength would have you at 90pds for 10 reps. A signifigant gain of strength would have you at 110pds for 10 reps. The difference isn't 10 pds (which is still very signifigant) but actually 20 pds. That is a huge difference and I think this is a fair comparison to the importance Heenan had on the NWO's momentum.

Wrestling thoughts that probably don't deserve
Resident Evil replied to Coffey's topic in NMB Wrestling Archive
Eh, Lawler should be putting over Tazz. Nobody really knows about Lawler's wrestling history anyway as he was not in the big leagues. He was never the star in WCW/NWA or the WWF and when he was in the WWF he was a joke wrestler who nobody took seriously. Tazz has more of a wrestling history that's known to the fans than Lawler does. And their present and past charactors since the 90s should have Tazz destroying Lawler in a matter of seconds. And if the stories behind the scenes are true about their ECW/ONS II match than Lawler should be losing to Tazz every day for the rest of his life just for the punishment. -

Thank goodness I missed Raw for the millionth time in a row. It sounded pretty bad. I did see the clip of Sabu hitting the legdrop on Cena though and woah boys did that rule or what? That was a thing of beauty. Sabu's got more of an aura around him than the entire Raw roster put together. Think about that; that's not even an exaggeration. WP -- Once again marking out for Sabu! -
Feeling -- What seperates the 2 Bret vs Austin mat
Resident Evil replied to Resident Evil's topic in NMB Wrestling Archive
Lyger vs Sasuke would easily be in my top 2% of matches as far as the "I just watched something terrific" factor. Of course a lot of Benoit matches leave me with this as well. As for Bret vs Austin at Mania practically EVERYTHING worked in that for me. The SS96 indeed has one of the better endings of all time. Overall, I think Bret Hart may have been the best ever at having memoarable match endings. I love the ECW Douglas vs Scorpio bout (a couple of my friends really liked it too) but it only leaves me with the "I watched a very, very good match" vibe instead of a super classic feeling like Lyger vs Sasuke for instance. -
Just a bunch of thoughts that were going through my mind which I wanted to type down. This was commented on in the DVDVR messageboard but it was buried deep within some other post. Basically, it was about the Bret vs Austin matches. The Bret vs Austin matches are often debated on which one is better. The two matches in question are Bret vs Austin from Survivor Series 96 and of course Wrestlemania XIII. Of course you will find people favouring both sides. However, one very interesting thing I'm noticed (and I hope I'm not wrong on this) is that people who believe SSeries is better don't really think of that match as being one of the best of all time but people who think the Mania is the better of the 2 will be more likely to favour that match as one of the best of all time. I never did put SS96 in the DVDVR poll I mad a little while back on the best matches ever which is too bad but I did put WM13 as an option. To say it did better than I thought it would do would be an understatement. It easily held its own/pulled off a ton of "upsets" and confirmed my belief that the bigger fans of the match truly did think of it as one of the best matches ever. I of course am one of those people though I don't think I voted for it in the poll. So why are the WM13 fans more in love with their match as compared to the SS96 fans? Well, I think as commented in the DVDVR thread that it comes down to this. Feeling. SS96 is a great experience and leaves you with feeling that "Man, I just watched a terrific match" but WM13 leaves you with the feeling that you just skydived out of the air while losing your virginity at the same time (if that was possible) It knocks you over, picks you back up again and than knocks you out cold. That right there is the reason I believe WM13 is the better match of the 2 and one of the better matches of all time. It leaves me with the feeling "I just watched one of the best matches of all time". Of course, I guess for whatever individual reasons the fans of SS96 don't get the same kind of rush that the big fans of WM13 do. That's why they don't think WM13 is one of the better matches ever. Basically, it all comes down to feeling when we judge a match. If I ever say a match is one of the best ever or is overrated it's pretty much because it left me with a super endorphin rush or it gave me a feeling of nothingless. Really, when it comes down to it this is the only true and tested way you can judge a wrestling match for yourself. Judging for the fans is a little more tricky but as for yourself this is what it boils down to for every single person who's ever watched a wrestling match. Yes, people cite dangers thinking this way. What if you're depressed while watching a match or what if you were feeling terrific while watching the exact same bout? What if you're more emotionally attached to a bunch of wrestlers as compared to another group? What if you're more tired of one style as compared to another and this is affecting your feelings and henceforth judgement on a match? Well, I've never really had a problem with this. You got to kind of keep all factors like this inside your head but from me now being a veteran wrestling viewer/fan I'm able to decide what I truly think is great and what is not through this very easy analysis: Did the match leave me with a feeling of being terrific such as Atlantis vs Villano III? or Did the match just leave me flat? That's what it all boils down to. Like I said, I believe it's why several of the WM13 fans think of Mania as being one of the best matches ever while the big fans of SS96 tend not to from what I've seen. They don't get the same feeling that the WM13 fans do. Enough rambling for now.

Wrestling thoughts that probably don't deserve
Resident Evil replied to Coffey's topic in NMB Wrestling Archive
The Macho Man vs Warrior retirement match and subsequent angle with Elizabeth is perhaps overall the best angle/wrestling match combination of all time. On an overall basis, I think this angle hit home harder than anything ever has in wrestling for quite a number of people. Definitely one of the top wrestling moments ever produced. I bet for example if you could somehow take a survey of this you would find more people on the verge of crying or crying to be higher than any other angle in wrestling. -

Resident Evil replied to Coffey's topic in NMB Wrestling Archive
Austin not a smart wrestler? A smart wrestler makes enthralling, memoarable matches through his work. The fact that Austin can do this while being injured in the ring is a sign of a smart wrestler. Eh, I don't mind his pacing, selling or the building of his moves. I think some of his matches are great at building. I remember the Angle match back in 2001 being great at this. In fact, I think Austin's pacing when he's on is one of his strong suits. Your second comment is exaggerated somewhat for attention and probably to get underneath my skin since you seem to get easily irritated and don't like me for some reason. However, that technique is useless because I don't get upset at that type of thing. I know what I like, why I like it and I think have a good perception on why things work with the crowds a good portion of the time so these kind of comments don't bother me. If I did let it bother me than I could never read the internet because there are so many different opinions out there. Benoit like Ric Flair, Kobashi, Austin, Marc Rocco, Rip Rogers or the Dynamite Kid will in 15 seconds in the ring will show why they are/were better than the majority of wrestlers out there. All true great wrestlers have this intangible factor. Trying to describe it here -- It's like being legit alive inside the ring -- One can only become a great wrestler once they have this. It is why Sabu is comfortably leading AJ Styles in the DVDVR tournament they got going there. And no, it's not because DVDVR "is home of the contrarian viewpoint". This is partly why some of the ROH wrestlers are criticised for coming off as contrived while some other stars aren't. Someday, they may get better at this. Benoit's repitiveness is overexaggerated and although it would be nice every once in awhile to see Benoit or other WWE superstars expand on their reportoire we know it's not going to happen. I think some openess would help the WWE some. But still, it's not quite a big a problem as some think. Everyone's got to be repitive in wrestling for various reasons. American Dragon is not going to stop doing his trademark stuff just like Fit Finlay isn't. The WWE guys have got to stick to their trademark moves while not throwing everything out there a little more than others do but even than it does have its advantages. For the average or less than average viewing fan (or even the hardcore fan) it's going to bring about better pops because of the recognisation and importance factor with the trademark moves. Personally, I too as a fan would like the WWE to open up some but I see why they do what they do. How was Benoit vs Finlay at Judgement Day which was one of the better matches in quite awhile similar to their other matches? From Europe in 91 to WCW in 97 and 98 to the WWE in 2006 I am seeing a difference there. I mean besides the opening, face gets beat up and than makes a comeback bit which happens in almost all wrestling matches? The Benoit vs Regal matches were different from each other too specifically the last one. I don't know, if you can't see why Benoit is praised while ROH is ctricised at times for being contrived than I think you're missing out on what a lot of wrestling is. But that's okay; we like what we like and we don't what we don't. I know I miss out on stuff that others like but that's okay. Life as a wrestling fan would be boring if I liked what everyone else did. -

19. Mayumi Ozaki Last I heard you hadn't watched too much joshi puroresu so this is a really impressive rating. Ozaki will be extremely high on my list. 26. Masa Fuchi Interesting 35. Dynamite Kid I didn't know you liked DK that much 47. Marc Rocco Awesome. Rocco's actually better at some aspects of the game than wrestlers "better" than him. Just a natural wrestler. 84. Steve Williams I think Williams is underrated. He has such a strong presence in the ring and his work ethic is seemingly looked over. I do have a bias towards big guys who can produce a great wrestling match however.

No. I was hard on Austin in 2001 mostly because of his execution but there's no denying that the guy knew how to construct a match, worked his but off, was fantastic at being animated (he was beyond awesome at this in the Benoit match) and had terrific charisma. There was no way Austin was overrated in 2001. In fact on an overall basis I think he maybe underrated. More people should be studying his best stuff and learning from it. The HHH bout is indeed overrated though. Kurt Angle isn't the most overrated wrestler of all time either. Not even close. In fact, he's probably not overrated at all. -
