    The new wrestling economy

I can deal with weekly TV that doesn't really have anything to write home about match wise but you gotta give me some good promos. It's not like Southeastern TV was great from an in-ring standpoint maybe the best TV match I've seen from that era was Charlie Cook vs. Mr. Saito and I don't think most people would really care too much if they saw it now (I did upload it to youtube though). But at least I get to hear great talkers like Bob Armstrong, The Fullers, Jimmy Golden, Jerry Stubbs etc. I can't remember anyone from the NXT episodes that I watched standing out in that regard.
  2. "This match was so slow it resembled a glacier drifting past the Titanic." made me laugh out loud. Looking forward to the Briscos vs. Funks match. Maybe being half of the WWF Tag Team Champions will keep Funk out of going into retirement. You MUST be trolling me with that Intercontinental title match though. Steve Regal is the drizzling shits and I have no idea what planet you're from if you think he's a qualified I.C. title contender and Ron Starr isn't.
  3. Noted WWE talent scout Gerald Brisco approves of Boon's latest acquisition: https://twitter.com/Fgbrisco/status/640588310155558912 EDIT: And now re-tweeted by Dory Funk Jr. Who are you to doubt Charlie Cook??
  4. I'll eventually get back to this. It's like my wrestling version of comfort food, when I start losing interest or see some really crappy wrestling then I go back to Southeastern. It's just that the NWAClassics stuff and the 1983 fantasy project have taken up most of my rasslin time recently. I've tried to keep everyone on my fantasy roster involved in some kind of story/feud/issue as a tribute to the greatness of this territory. I specifically avoided taking Southeastern as my territory though due to not feeling like I could do it any better than it was already done in real life. It didn't feel like too big of a challenge to make Southwest better.

WWE TV for 8/31 to 9/6

I figure there's at least a 40% chance it's Kane, so I'm looking forward the possibility of hat-eating-pictures. Yea I feel there needs to be a SomethingAwful style Toxx clause here where Johnny has to face a punishment if Kane is the partner and we don't get any hat eating.
  6. Sorry Bruce but "scripted" German Killer Karl Krupp doesn't really work the same And I know it's not for everyone but I really love watching matches without commentary. Especially when you have crowds that were as hot as the Houston crowds usually were. But if the person you are talking about trying to get for commentary is who I think it is then I think it will lead to some really cool things.
  7. The actual (only?) worst thing continues to be the wacky "stereo" audio. I haven't really noticed any more of that since the first batch of uploads.
  8. Wrestlingdata.com has the card results. http://wrestlingdata.com/index.php?befehl=shows&show=215915 and if we get the whole show we're in for a really awesome main event. Coloso Colosetti vs Reggie Parks Mando Guerrero vs. White Knight Tiger Conway Jr.vs Gama Singh Al Madril vs. White Knight Wahoo McDaniel vs Ichiban #1 2 out of 3 Falls Match: Mark Lewin vs. Dusty Rhodes 2 out of 3 Falls Hair vs. Hair Match: José Lothario vs. Gino Hernández If you don't "get" why I would call Jose Lothario vs. Gino an awesome main event then you need to drop the $8.99 and subscribe and find out why. The more footage we get of both guys the more I come to realize they are both way better than their reputations.
  9. Newest upload is Wahoo McDaniel(s) facing off against the masked Ichiban which wrestlingdata.com says is Killer Karl Krupp. No idea why fake German Krupp was wrestling under a mask with a fake Japanese wrestler gimmick but wrestling is an odd beast sometimes. He may be the only person to ever play both a fake German and a fake Japanese wrestler.
  10. Insinuating another poster is Vince McMahon is like the hallmark of really shitty wrestling arguments. Please Jingus come towards the light it's not your time to slip into making wrestlingforum.com level posts.
  11. The worst thing about NWAClassics.com is the video quality is so good that it's spoiling me. I'm finding it harder and harder to watch some of the crappy VQ stuff I have in my collection which is causing my Southeastern thread to lie dormant.
  12. When you have to resort to this level of ridiculousness it's time to just stop.
  13. EDIT: Somehow I posted that in the wrong thread.
  14. Man that big flying shoulder block for the finish looked great.
  15. I don't think it's fair to say that most of us are bigger fans than a lot of wrestlers. Our only way to get out wrestling fix is to watch footage or fantasy book. They get their fix by wrestling 3-4 times a week. It doesn't surprise me at all that most guys when they have their off days don't watch, especially a guy like Flair in his prime who would have pretty much never had time to.
  16. When Flair did his first shoot interview with High Spots he didn't even know Jumbo had died.

    MNM

Yea this is not the Jersey Triad thread, maybe you clicked the wrong one.
  18. I liked the Buddy Moreno/Omar Atlas vs. Black Gordman match. It's not going to blow you away but the opening was pretty good and the finish was fairly well done although Gordman controlling in the middle got a little dull at parts. Moreno still looked pretty agile and in good shape for a guy who was in his mid-40s. I'll freely admit I was going into this to "scout" a guy on my fantasy roster more than anything else but I still think this is worth watching.
  19. Jerry Lawler is one of the absolute bests ever but he's said on numerous occasions that he has no interest in watching wrestling. He pretty much said the same thing as Funk's plumber analogy except not in those words.
  20. Because it's a totally unique form of storytelling. I've always been more interested in the characters, promos and angles than the actual matches themselves. Probably why I have such little interest in current WWE.
  21. There was quite a bit of late 70s/early 80s stuff that got uploaded the first month or so with some of the Southwest guys like Tully/Gino/Moon Mulligan/Scott Casey/Tiger Conway but the Watts era cards are so much better that I wouldn't blame him for making that more of a priority. I wouldn't say it's what is in the collection so much as what has gotten priority. Give me Duggan/Fantastics/RNR over Scott Casey & Tiger Conway Jr. every time. Even if I have to take some Terry Taylor to go along with it.
  22. Today's upload is going to be Black Gordman vs. the newest debut from my 1983 fantasy Southwest roster, Omar Atlas/Buddy Moreno. I think Bruce is secretly a fan of my fantasy booking. Obviously it's no coincidence that his first match gets uploaded the same day I posted a HemisFair show with Omar Atlas teaming with Mil Mascaras
  23. Yea this list really hasn't meant anything since they put Dean Malenko at #1 and that was close to 20 years ago. They can't even decide what the criteria is most of the time. Is it work rate, kayfabe accomplishments, a mixture? Who knows? Or cares? I'm just surprised that PWI is still around. I mean don't get me wrong, I used to love it when I was a kid looking at all the names of guys I'd never heard of and seeing pictures of goofy wrestlers like that guy who wrestled in the chicken suit whose name I can't remember. But it probably wasn't a very good list even back then.
  24. Just talked to RocketCrypt in a PM on Monday he hasn't cut ties.
