    WWE TV 8/24-8/30

I didn't mean to insinuate that the reveal was some awesome moment just more that all the talking that went on before it was totally pointless and dragged on forever, seemingly as a rib on Sting who had to stand there under that sheet sweating his face paint off. But you are right there is really not one good kayfabe reason for Sting to get a title shot. Might as well just go all the way with the Reality Era and have them say "well yea Sting didn't beat anyone to earn it but we need to sell Network subscriptions!"
  2. Keeping my fingers crossed The Nightmares don't wind up in unfriendly territory.

    Jerry Blackwell

Blackwell is so damn good. Been watching some of his stuff over the past month that has popped up...somewhere..and I would have a hard time NOT placing him in a top 3 of "big man" wrestlers of all time. Yokozuna was great at the whole "weeble wobble" selling before finally going down but I think Blackwell is the absolute master of it. He's able to look both totally dominant and vulnerable in a very short time span in a match. Pretty damn good as a promo too although that doesn't count for this.
  4. You guys sure know how to kill my enthusiasm for watching a match.

    Sgt. Slaughter

The TV does kind of suck I can't argue that. The Showboat era is actually better than what came before it if that tells you anything. But I find the arena footage is usually pretty damn good especially some of the early 80s stuff that was on the AWA set.

    The Nightmares

I wish we had more arena footage of the Southeastern time periods. During the Continental days they put big matches on TV so we have a lot of good Nightmares stuff but I wish there was some earlier stuff so I could try and make a case for Bob Armstrong.

    Sgt. Slaughter

I don't even know what that means. I just watched some Blackwell/Crusher match earlier and while the match wasn't very good the crowd was nuts and when they turned the lights on at the end while Blackwell was beating down Crusher I thought there was about to be a full scale riot. When you have crowds that hot I don't know how you can call it a "dull, low-rent promotion" unless you are talking strictly about their TV.
  9. That 8 man tag sounds like it'd be awesome.
  10. Well you have the benefit of not watching in real time and getting to fast forward through a lot of the junk. There were some good parts but a lot of "same old shit" in there too. I broke my own rule about never watching current WWE without the use of a fast forward button and it was really not worth it.
  11. I wouldn't really recommend it but if you do, you should absolutely fast forward through every word of that last talking segment until they do the reveal of what's under the sheet.
  12. So yea today's new match is Ron Garvin vs. The Missing Link. I somehow missed that Garvin had some matches in Houston. Looking forward to checking that out.

  15. It ain't just the company. I really don't think the fans would accept that especially the smarkier ones. There are still plenty of "main event or bust!" people out there for Bryan. I also don't think Bryan himself would go for it. Nothing about his history makes me think he is a guy who would willingly go out there and not try and go 100% every night regardless of what his body is telling him.
  16. I remember there was a thread a while back where there was a discussion of what an academic book about pro wrestling structure would look like if it was done right. I have serious doubts that book would ever happen because I suspect the writer would want to try too hard to make sure he comes off as "above it all." This movie is the closest thing that we'll probably ever get to that kind of book and it is done extremely well. It probably treats the subject matter with more respect than a lot of modern "fans" do.
  17. I think Mid-South did the best at walking the line of making the heel look like he was tough yet still inferior to the babyface.

Got eaten by that new guy in the Wyatt family. Or that 900+ lb gator I saw on my facebook page this morning. He and Axel got hosed by the Hogan thing and I don't even know if they care enough to repackage either of them at this point.

I'm not going to fall into the trap of doing the thing I usually make fun of people for doing. There is no logic in Sting getting a title shot and I'm not going to sit here and try to find it or poke all the holes in it that are obviously there. Off to watch 80s rasslin and try and make up for wasting those 3 hours I could have been watching Doom, Midnight Express, Tully & Arn or fucking ANYTHING else.

Gross. Well at least they didn't do anything to make me want to start giving them $9.99 again.

There better be something cool under that sheet or this is gonna be a real waste of my Monday night. I just got blocked by HTM on twitter for harmlessly asking him why he was trolling his former protege Rockabilly, I need something to cheer me up.
  22. You guys don't really want to watch "I Like to Hurt People" anyway. As a way to see some cool old wrestling footage is was ok but as a movie I thought it was quite bad.

There is almost no way there is an actual statue under that sheet.

I would actually legitimately want to see that.
