I was hoping I was about to stumble into a treasure trove here

They could use action figures for a visual demonstration.

For the overall large point of "how to prioritize" I wouldn't have a problem with someone not really considering something they might consider too "niche." I mean if your main area of interest is pretty much only in one country or a specific time period and you're already committing to watching stuff outside of that comfort zone for the project, how deep are you supposed to dive? If someone has never watched more than 10 matches from Japan it's probably not realistic to expect them to go through the glory days of New Japan & All Japan, the 2000s and then jump into Joshi, FMW, M-Pro, etc etc. So for someone who hasn't watched wrestling past a certain time period, particularly 10+ years, it's never going to possible to cover all the bases the way the biggest modern indie fan, or the Joshi fan, or even the lucha supporters might want.

Can't believe someone else hasn't come in here to pimp them. Their best performances clearly came in Memphis, and for me I was a little disappointed with their run in AWA. But man they have some great matches in Memphis and they were clearly a huge deal for the territory, and the business over all since they could be credited for inspiring the Rock N Roll Express and the myriad of tag teams that then went on to copy RNR. I think they are really under rated as brawlers since I never see them come up when that discussion is taking place. They had some all out wars with The Moondogs and The Sheepherders. They wrestled The Sheepherders in nearly every kind of match there is, even inventing some along the way, and it usually ended up being a bloody brawl. There's a handheld of a Cage match with them that includes one of the sides of the cage being knocked over and the ref being thrown over the cage. I uploaded it a LONG time ago on youtube but it seems to be gone now. These guys would probably rank higher on my list than anyone else.

I actually think babyface Nightmares are SUPER accessible, even for people who like more of the "go go go" style than you would expect from an 80s southern tag team. They were a very versatile tag team. Their normal finish in Continental is Danny Davis hitting a Tombstone followed by Ken Wayne hitting the guy with a Top Rope Legdrop. A pretty high end finisher for the middle to late 80s. I've also seen them both hit some pretty amazing looking dives, and have some all out BRAWLS. I would say as far as 80s babyfaces teams being able to have an awesome all out brawl type of match, they are second to only maybe The Fabulous Ones in my book.

I think we should be careful before completely dismissing other people's choices just because they are way higher than our own. I know for a fact I am the only person who rated King Kong Bundy vs. Jerry Lawler #1 on the Memphis set. Probably the only person who even put it in their top 10. It wasn't a strategic vote. It was genuinely the match I got the most enjoyment out of on the set, even if it wasn't the "best" match and so I ranked it as #1. There is not going to be some objective board wide consensus on who is #1, or which 10 guys truly belong in the top 10, etc etc.

I've probably seen as much Continental as anyone on this board not named KrisZ or Memphis Mark and as much as I love Jerry Stubs, I kind of have to agree that I don't see him as a Top 100 guy. I think you might be under rating him though to say that he doesn't stand out from the pack at all. If you watch the promotion in context that's really not true. He's clearly one of the best 2-3 guys that were regulars in the territory.

I have a hard time getting into WoS unless the workers involved do a lot of schtick. So my two favorite WoS guys are Catweazle and Jim Breaks. I could easily see Jim Breaks placing high on my list, and that's only seeing 5-6 matches of his. He is just SO GOOD at what he does that I think he's by far the easiest WoS guy to get an introduction to the style with.

I would have had an all time markout moment if Lawler had won the title in that TLC match. At least it would have been better than the terrible ending we did get, even if he gets screwed out of the title the next night. Regardless of that however, Lawler is my #1 and it would take a hell of an argument to push someone else into that spot. I guess in the "minimalist vs. maximist" debate I would firmly put myself in the minimalist camp and Lawler really is "The King" there. He could get a good match out of just about anyone, and most of the time he did. Also one of the best, if not the best, promo guy of all time. Was involved in some all time classic feuds & angles, some of which he booked himself. So factoring in the whole package, including being the anchor of the only territory that survived the territory era, I can't see anyone beating him out for #1 if I were to really do a list.

I know Stevens is old as dirt and way past his prime but I really love that Zbyszko/Ninja vs. Stevens/Bockwinkel (Las Vegas TV 1987) match.

I like Killer Khan A LOT. The Andre match in Japan, the Texas Death Match, the match with Choshu, I loved all those matches. But I've only really seen him shine in his biggest matches outside of that one Chris Adams match from Mid-South which wouldn't really fit the "big match" label. I'm not sure how he is as an every night performer. I know there was a tag match involving him & Dick Murdoch on opposite sides in Japan that I was looking forward to on a Murdoch set but Khan didn't really do anything in that match and it let me down. Also watched a match of his vs. Dusty Rhodes from MSG a few weeks ago that didn't do much for me either. And I didn't think much of the Hogan match I saw. I'd love for someone to come along and show me more awesome Khan performances to seek out however.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eIWW162VHkk This starts with a rather infamous vignette "A Day in the Life of The Nightmares" followed by The Nightmares vs. Nick Patrick & Brickhouse Brown. Not pimping this as a great match but just a chance to get a feel for The Nightmares as heels in Continental. Heel Nightmares vs. The Rich Cousins (Feud Highlights) I think The Nightmares were a better babyface team but they had a long run under masks before eventually losing them to Tommy & Johnny Rich. The Nightmares vs. The Stud Stable (feud recap) Another feud highlight, this time with The Nightmares as babyfaces. This seemed to be a very personal feud but unfortunately I can not find the episodes from 1987 during that time period so it's just stuff from Joe Pedicino's Pro Wrestling This Week. The best thing I've seen The Nightmares in is their feud with Jerry Stubbs & The Dirty White Boy over the Continental Tag Titles in 86-87 this is the only match I could find of the feud on youtube but it was one of the better ones so definitely check it out.

Ok, I'm not really participating in the project but I can see I'm going to have to beat the drum here and get people to consider them, because I honestly feel they should be in the discussion as one of the top tag teams of the 80s.

Now that you say that, I think I might like Scott the best out of all the Armstrongs. (Well of the sons, Bob is obviously #1)

I think Stubbs is going to be hurt by the fact that we have no footage of Southeastern/Continental house shows. He is involved in some good TV matches and some great angles in that territory, but I think it might be tough to make a case for him as a top 100 worker without more footage. If people are going to research him they might be a little confused as to how he goes back and forth from Mr. Olympia to Jerry Stubbs so often, but pretty much if he was a babyface then he is Mr. Olympia and if he was a heel then he was just Jerry Stubbs. The tag team and then feud with Dirty White Boy is probably the best footage we have of Stubbs in quality matches: Part 1 of DWB/Stubbs split Part 2 Part 3 Stubbs vs. DWB Southern Street Fight

Great story!

I remember the Sandow match. It was a great performance by Cena but Sandow is just not really believable at that level.

The dual English/Spanish announcers standing beside each other doing the show at the same time was just the way they did things in San Antonio. They were doing that in the Blanchard Southwest days too. And as for the Hector/Veasey match, Hector does bleed a lot but for a match billed as "possibly the bloodiest ever" it wasn't what I expected. Mostly because the blood comes at the very end, almost AFTER the match.

There was a Little Tokyo & Lord Littlebrook vs. Cowboy Lang & Little Coco match on the AWA set that I really enjoyed. Little Tokyo is a very fun heel.

I just don't understand WWE's criteria for who gets a push and who doesn't. It's obviously not about who has the potential to make the most money because if that were true there is no way in hell guys like Bo Dallas & Adam Rose would be getting more TV time than Titus O'Neil.

There's no reason a wrestling crowd can't give a standing ovation instead of a "This is Awesome" chant except giving the standing ovation might make them marks whereas the chant let's everyone know how smart & discerning they are.

Well Raven did sue them about the independent contractor thing but I think by the time he decided to sue it was outside the statute of limitations.

I don't care what people think, that was BY FAR the most I ever cared about Perry Saturn in WWE. The Moppy thing, him being a complete idiot, the pairing with Terri Runnels. Good stuff. And I just watched the double date segment with Dean Malenko and a bad female actor. They don't have anyone in the midcard doing ANYTHING AT ALL much less anything as entertaining as that goofy crap.
