I think that might work, but they would have to really go "Jack Tunney style" with it and have him only pop up once or twice a year to over rule the Raw GM or whoever is playing the big bad authority figure of the time. Kinda the same way they used Linda in the Attitude Era.

Most Successful Gimmick Based on an Actual Job
goc replied to Cross Face Chicken Wing's topic in Pro Wrestling
Big Bossman was the first thing I thought of when I saw this thread, but Mr. McMahon is a really good answer too that I didn't immediately think of? Should he count? After reading stories about Rico's time as a cop they should have run with a "out of control ex-cop" gimmick for him. -
I don't think it's "purchase the WWE app from Apple TV and they take a cut" I think it's "SIGN UP through Apple TV and they take the cut" Seems like the app is just there on Apple TV without you purchasing it, but if you put your sign up and put your payment info for the Network in on Apple TV then they'll take a percentage.

Loss, I'd just like to thank you for your awesome moderating work. I like how you don't let new people stick around when they're too busy trolling or working a gimmick to actually discuss something.

Speaking of guys all getting in position for dives and dive trains, my dad who watched since way back in the JCP days growing up in Greensboro and moving to Richmond, did not care for the Cruisers at all when they showed up in WCW because of the more choreographed nature of the style.

Very sad news. I really loved his last run in WWE as Big Daddy V and was kind of surprised they let him go when they did.

I'm pretty sure WWE legal has looked at this. In great detail. If they were really open to an easy lawsuit from the PPV companies then they would have waited until those contracts were closer to ending to do the Network launch. Especially if they thought there would be an injunction against WrestleMania.

Wrestling that is just two guys exchanging moves without ever building any kind of momentum or telling any kind of story.

Ugh do we really have months and months of pointless speculation about Punk wrestling anywhere that isn't WWE? It's not going to happen.

The thing about WOW, GLOW, XPW and MLW is that they didn't stay around long enough to REALLY wear out their welcome. Maybe XPW did, but even then there were still some people very into XPW, I remember a guy who for years was on DVDVR trying to put together some XPW documentary. They also never really had any potential to be a viable national promotion where guys could go and actually make money. TNA gets the worst ever label because of never getting anywhere close to meeting their potential.

Dish Network dropping WWE PPVs seems really petty and pointless quite honestly. It's not like that will make them cancel their Network plans and all it does is take money away from Dish Network and possibly piss off some of their customers. There's no way to spin that to an angry fan calling about why they can't order Elimination Chamber or WrestleMania? "Well we would have been glad to take your money before, but now WWE is offering their PPVs for $10 somewhere else so we're not going to take your $50 at this time"

Oh my god this is good. Robert Fuller interviews Nick Gulas in 1989 about Jerry Jarrett stealing his promotion and how Robert should be the one running the territory. Fuller looks like a kid in a candy store, knowing that he's working an angle while getting Gulas riled up to shoot on Jarrett. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PGKzgh1K_fw#t=234

I just started watching NECW a few weeks ago, starting with their big monster tag team The End debut that hooked me. I've found the show surprisingly enjoyable so far, I liked the presentation of The End tag team, liked Jeremiah Bradley although I don't think he's a regular and loved the Jack Maverick squash the other week. Anyone else watch this? I started with Episode 43 but they have everything on their Youtube page. http://www.youtube.com/necwwrestling

The "Is Russo back in TNA or not" has been speculated a bit with nothing confirmed, but it definitely feels that way looking at all the tapings they did in England.

I've seen Flair do some nasty looking double stomps in the 80s that weren't really a part of his "regular move set" but I've seen them more than once. But arguing over who does more moves is really not much of an indicator of "who is a better wrestler" to me.

That's what I get for skimming. I'm still not sure where the Jody Hamilton hate comes from. Just because he was fat? I always got the sense that The Assassin gimmick drew money back in his time.
-
You can't count Samoans! Everyone knows Samoans don't have last names.
-
They don't have title shots anymore Loss, they are "championship opportunities."
-
Did Dave write that poem or was it from a fan letter? I'm not sure why Jody Hamilton would get Dave so riled up. I always thought he was fairly respected in the business.

Because if they blurred the logo for the first video, then it would still be there when they re-dub the audio.
-
Because he won the Rumble and that's always what they say about the Rumble winner.

It's kind of funny how the ratings trend has shifted. When Raw originally went to 3 hours, the first hour was the lowest rated and they would always load up the 9 o'clock segment. Now I'm not sure what they can do to redeem the 3rd hour. It seems like it doesn't really matter who they put in the main event, it's been Cena, Orton, Bryan, Punk etc. but nobody is bucking the trend. The show is just too long and obviously they aren't doing a good enough making the people who watch the first 2 hours become emotionally invested in the main event. 3 hour Raw during the Attitude Era would have been REAL overkill but I still think people would have wanted to hang around to the end (or at least come back) to see what was going to happen between Austin and McMahon. Regardless of the quality of the shit happening on Raw in 99 at least it felt like shit was happening. Now we have a bunch of good matches but no one from the midcard ever has any character progression and the main eventers don't either really unless they have a turn coming up.

I really don't know where they are going with The Real Americans. It seems like Zeb and Swagger are going to split, but I have no idea how Cesaro factors into that. I wouldn't mind seeing them turn together and then face a new team that Zeb makes up.

The angle ended up being what caused Perfect to leave WWF because when WWF promoted a HHH vs. Mr. Perfect match, Lloyds of London decided that was cause to cancel Perfect's disability.

I agree that Ziggler/Ryder isn't a fair comparison even if I'm not a big Ziggler fan. At least there are things about Zigger that stand out and he excels at other than making youtube videos. As far as the Bourne comparison, Bourne also follows that up with really good looking offense. Not just the SSP but he does some very good looking jumping knee strikes at times and all around has very crisp offense. And he also sells really well to go along with the bumping. Ziggler's bumps feel like that's all he brings to the table sometimes.
