The NBA Playoffs are pro wrestling
Cross Face Chicken Wing replied to goodhelmet's topic in Pro Wrestling Mostly
Of course, right after I post this the Thunder do the Hulk Up with some Grumpy Jumbo mixed in and are on the verge of eliminating the Spurs. Never gamble on sports, kids. -
Regional bias in American wrestling talk
Cross Face Chicken Wing replied to Loss's topic in Pro Wrestling
As a Minnesotan, I disagree. The movie Fargo lingers over our heads to this day (it's one of my favorite movies, FWIW). Austin had a southern accent and seemed to use it to effectively build his everyman badass anti-authority character. A lot of college football coaches also dial up their southern accents to 11, even non-southern coaches. They think it makes them sound more relatable and down-to-earth. From this northerner's perspective, Texas is a southern state that seems to be perceived as cooler than the other "dumb" southern states like Alabama or Florida. -
Been thinking about this for a few days and I can't come up with anything better than Arn's spine buster.

The NBA Playoffs are pro wrestling
Cross Face Chicken Wing replied to goodhelmet's topic in Pro Wrestling Mostly
So far the 2016 NBA playoffs have been like modern-day WWE: There's a ton of talent and potential for intrigue out there, but mostly everything has fallen flat and disappointed. Oh, and a whole bunch of ill-timed injuries. Spurs-Thunder has the potential to be intriguing, but the Thunder seem like their usual mess in the coaching/strategy area that it wouldn't surprise me if the Spurs end up taking the series 4-1. Some say the Warriors losing Curry makes for an interesting storyline. Those people are wrong The NBA is about its stars. You don't want to see stars get injured. And talk about bad booking. Three days between Spurs/Thunder games? C'mon. Here's hoping Curry returns in time to face the Spurs in the conference finals. And here's hoping the main event of LeBron and crew make a series out of whomever they end up facing in the finals to salvage this year's playoffs. -
Ryback suggests egalitarian pay structure for wrestlers
Cross Face Chicken Wing replied to Loss's topic in Pro Wrestling
I was thinking of a union more along the lines of the NFL, NBA or MLB. Something where a certain percentage of revenue goes to talent, healthcare and travel reimbursements can be negotiated and maybe even some type of system is set up to increase pay based on years of service or other criteria. Again, pipe dream stuff. But you'd think since WWE is the only real game in town now, it'd be easier to organize a union compared to the territory or Monday Night Wars days. -
Ryback suggests egalitarian pay structure for wrestlers

Unless WWE workers unionize and the union is actually competent (both pipe dreams), any type of a pay system that's more "fair" will never happen. -
PTBN Reaction Show: Payback 2016
Cross Face Chicken Wing replied to Bigelow34's topic in Publications and Podcasts
Great show, guys. But Kris: Don't ever use the words "Randy Orton" and "freshen things up" in the same sentence ever again. -
It's like that on just about any mass communication channel (Twitter, Facebook, forums, whatever) on any topic. People being sexist/racist/assholes/whatever online isn't limited to wrestling discussion. That's why when you find a place like PWO, you count your blessings and work to keep it the oasis that it (usually ) is.

What is Discussed in this Folder is Making Verne Gagne Turn in his Grave Too long?

Not so sure that is the case. Perhaps the PWO of the future if a large number of the non-PWO voters stick around and become part of the community. But make up a list of all the #1 voters, and ponder how many aren't regular posters here (or haven't been outside of the GWE), along with all the ???, and there's a not insignificant number of folks who haven't been members of the community over the past 2 years, or 10 years. Not saying that's a bad things. Will and Loss have talked about broadening the PWO community, and making it an inclusive site. This is smart as there are always some of us over the years who wander off, and you need to regularly put more water into the pool to make up for what comes out. But it's not realistic to stretch it to be representative of what the community has been. All the members of the PWO community that cared enough or could be bothered to vote, voted. Loss, and others that made the decision to let non-members vote was a good one. Otherwise, PWO would end up like the North Korea of all wrestling boards, toA. I'd love for all of the non-members that voted to become members, possibly replacing those who are too elitist to be bothered with such things. That's what I said, with the exception of the "too elitist" nonsense. I said it was a good/smart thing that Will and Charles opened up the vote. I also said that in the end the list didn't represent what the PWO community was at the start of the project. But it could be representative of the PWO community if those new voters stick around, which also would be a good thing. As far as voting, I've explained to anyone who has asked over the past two years why: #1 - Time I would rather watch things like Clippers vs Blazers, Spurs vs Thunder, Dubs vs Blazers, Drakes vs Pacers, United vs Leicester, City vs Sunderland, and Barca vs Betis this Fri-Sun. OJ up above talked about 3 hours a week. There's 16 hours from Friday night through Sunday night, plus chunks of the TNT post game shows, and the MSNBC EPL pre-game/post game shows, which takes that up over 20 hours. NBA playoffs this year have been blah. You could've at least skipped that dreadful and pointless first round and participated in GWE for those two weeks

It's one thing to have a gimmick, it's another to execute it. All those workers you mentioned, for the most part, did a good to great job of executing their gimmick and making sure their gimmick wasn't just a manufactured narrative that falls flat when it comes time to implement it and develop the character. Does it help to be told repeatedly that workers like HBK and Flair are the GOAT or that Arn is a "total pro?" Sure. But if they didn't do a good job executing those gimmicks in the ring, during promos and in vignettes, we'd tire of the "narrative" pretty quickly and it would go away.

I'm a 34 year old dude with a 2 year old, a wife who's four days past due to give birth to our second son, two jobs and other "challenges" in my life. I don't follow modern wrestling because 1) I don't have time, 2) What time I do have I'd rather dedicate to old-school wrestling that I actually enjoy, 3) When I try to tune in to modern stuff, I find most of it is garbage (IMO) and 4) the online discussion on the modern product, specifically WWE, tends to always end up turning into a giant bitch-fest about the booking and how awful the product is. Personally, I'm glad the modern WWE talk at PWO is off on its own. I'd actually vote to have all modern wrestling talk off in its own folders. That way I don't have to bother with it on my screen unless I choose to click on the folder. That said, incorporating modern talk into the main folder isn't going to drive me away from the site or anything. It'd just be something else for the Larry David in me to get annoyed about Edit: Modern wrestling is a good way to keep in touch with old friends. A few of my old college buddies still watch Raw, NXT and things like New Japan. It's fun to reconnect with them over a couple of beers and catch up on wrestling. But talking about the modern product on a message board......eh......it seems to always devolve into the same old bitching......

I was at the Wrestlepalooza show in Des Moines in January and it was a cool experience. I got pretty drunk and had a great time. I'm pumped to see the lineups roll out as there is a lot of cool talent for them to use. At the Des Moines show they had a four way hoss battle between Kody Rice, Chainsaw King, Redwing, and Venom that was pretty fun to watch in person. It also led to this great moment from Chainsaw King and burlesque dancer Sigourney Beaver on local television http://www.weareiowa.com/news/local-news/stars-of-wrestlepalooza-on-good-morning-iowa I think they have Scott Hall lined up for both Wrestlepalooza stops in Iowa and MN for June.

In June if I'm feeling good enough I'm going to check out F1RST Wrestling's Wrestlepalooza show. Never checked them out before and I've always wanted to see wrestling at First Ave. (a great concert venue that Prince owned for a while). https://www.facebook.com/F1RST-Wrestling-240079265547/ I've also always meant to check out Steel Domain Wrestling in the Twin Cities, but life always gets in the way. http://www.steeldomainwrestling.com/
