Got you a little info. It looks like they ran the Ohio Center primarily in the early 80s. That building eventually was expanded and became the Columbus Convention Center.
-
Columbus native here. I believe they were running at the Ohio State Fairgrounds and they might have done some shows at Veterans Memorial. I can check on Veterans Memorial.

So, not a great sampling of his work but I watched several Big Daddy matches when I was up watching U.K. stuff on Youtube and I would really like to be pointed to a match from Big Daddy that wasn't a drizzling pile of shit please. The ones I watched all seemed to be him pushing another fat guy out of the ring.

I started watching some NWA Hollywood today. I really hit a pet peeve during a match with TJ Perkins and Joey Ryan. I swear, like 75% of the moves in their match were countered into another move. It was just, reversal, reversal, reversal, reversal. It was really tedious to sit through after the first 5 minutes. I really try with indy wrestling and it just always finds a way to piss me off. To me, you're putting on a bad match if you're having every move get reversed because it ruins the flow of the match. Neither guy had control for more than 2 or 3 moves. How do you build a match doing that? There was no drama. I was just sitting there thinking "well, I guess it's just going to end out of nowhere" and a couple of minutes later it did. They also weren't using a heel/face dynamic. Ryan came out with a Hollywood gimmick and acting like a heel but stopped as soon as the match started. So there was no dynamic for the match to build off of. It should have been Ryan bullying the smaller Perkins until Perkins made his comeback. But instead, it was just this mess of reversals. -

Thanks for the link and list of matches. I'll start digging into it. -

So, I'm kind of feeling up for a new challenge in wrestling. With all of the talk of U.K. wrestling I thought that might be an interesting thing to explore. I know very little about it. So where would someone start with the U.K. Do I look for old comps with someone I know something about like Johnny Saint. Just some advice. I buy from IVP regularly and he has some comp stuff on there. Thinking I might sneak one or two in next time I order. -

I listened to that Domino Nigeria episode and it might have been the greatest thing I've ever heard. Listening to it a second time. -

That about sums it up. The guys that could reign that ridiculousness in are in the big leagues now. It should be interesting to see some of the people getting their first real exposure to RoH after almost a decade of overhype. -
It kind of annoys me that people are trying to blame that abortion on Sting. Sorry, I've seen Sting wrestle in several quality matches with sub-par workers. That shit was 100% Flair.
-
I disagree. Not everyone listens when their body tells them they need to stop.
-
Bret Hart did the same thing. People jump all over themselves to try and pin the blame on Goldberg that they ignore the fact that Hart wrestled 3 or 4 matches after he got that concussion.
-
I'm going to slightly defend TNA here. At least TNA has been smart enough to not hand over a big cash advance unlike some companies. *coughRoHcoughcough*

Greg Valentine is still getting paid to do appearances for indies. Now, showing up for those dates, he tends to not do that. On Flair, I think when WCW went under would have been a good time for him to go out. He had trouble getting through that Last Nitro match with Sting. He was pretty scary to watch during that WWE run. I remember some random match where he busted his face open on the ropes really bad. He's a decade past the point of having a positive contribution to wrestling. But he's probably going to die in the ring at some obscure indy show like Moondog Spot did. Now, I think there's a different track you can take. HHH, I think HHH is at the point where he should retire. He has nothing positive left to contribute to the WWE as a promotion and he's not moving on to a different company. I think if he was smart, he would retire because his continuing to be an active inring guy would be counter-productive to the company. Guys I think got out at the right time are the Rock, Randy Savage, Arn Anderson and Shawn Michaels. I think I would be willing to still put Sting on that list if he hangs it up for good after this TNA run. He's still contributing in the ring, minus the Flair match but what could he have done? But Sting seems to be a guy that's adjusted well to his limitations as he's gotten older.

Dave's report was a gross overstatement. That said, Kobashi looked like he could barely do three steps at a time. Looks totally shot. Looks like a guy who need to retire yesterday and nurse his poor body for the rest of his life. Mutoh is a mystery to me. The guy stopped aging 8 years ago. How can a 48 year old guy with no knee move so quick and do those explosive spots ? 10 years ago if you had told me that by 2010, Misawa and Hash would be dead, Kobashi would be a walking zombi while Mutoh would still do his old spots without missing a beat nor looking awkward, I would not have believed you. Simple. Mutoh redesigned his offense right when he started to lose a step in his late 30s. He adjusted to a much lower risk offense that didn't require him to leave his feet as much. I mean, his big stuff like the moonsault went away for years and only pops up in big moments. He's really been smart about adjusting to the limitations of age. -

It's about profit not competition. That goes hand in hand though. You're trying to convince fans to devote another hour of their tv watching to them. Giving them a product that's almost 30 years out of date isn't the best way to bring in those viewers. -

I love Cornette but man he's on something if he thinks RoH can compete with that kind of television format. -
No one other than some naive kids. What I mean is when the only reason you're still out there is the paycheck like with Flair and Hogan.
-
Yeah, I saw he had Punk on last month for an interview but haven't listened to that episode yet. Cousin Sal was on for their football picks and he just randomly went off on it after talking about the Mayweather fight.
-
I think when you're old enough to be a grandparent of incoming 18 year old rookie wrestlers is a good time to hang it up. I think on a personal level, when you're just doing it for the paycheck is the time to get out.

I started listening to Colt Cabana's podcast tbis week. Any recommendations for good episodes to listen to? -
Bill Simmons randomly went off of HHH during his podcast this week and said he ruined the Punk angle and Punk. It was really weird because Simmons has never really done that before.

I just recently watched several of the Vader vs. Big Bossman matches from 1994. I remembered enjoying the matches back when I originally watched them but I really loved them this time around. They really had some amazing chemistry together and Bossman looked great despite losing every single match that I saw. -

I haven't watch Raw in about 4 years. I'm seriously considering watching it for the Muppets. -

3 stages of hell or some variant has been around forever, I always thought it was a cool gimmick myself. They were using Metal Master and a couple of other guys in the undercard for awhile if I remember correctly. -

He sneaks a lot of OVW guys onto the undercard. He was booking for awhile and it wasn't good. Delirious has the book now from what I've heard.
