Yeah, that's probably the best Ronnie Garvin match I've ever seen. Just a great match. I really want to know how people could pick the slow WWF style over how hard hitting the WCW shows could be in the mid 80s.

Who is this guy calling himself Sid at Halloween Havoc 89 and what did he do to the shitty Sid we all know and love?

I see them as opposite ends of the spectrum. Cena to me has earned his spot by taking what was given to him and getting over to the point where they had to make him champion. Since then he's continued to prove himself by making the company money. Orton on the other hand has been handed everything along the way. He was almost there at one point but they fucked him by having HHH beat him almost immediately then turning him face. Since then it's been a long stream of Orton fucking up out of the ring and being given second, third and fourth chances where almost anyone else would've been fired on the first offense. His overness has rarely justified the continued push and he hasn't proven himself at the box office like Cena has. If Orton was suddenly gone for six months due to injury you wouldn't be hearing "they're fucked" like you did when Cena went down. They both get hated on but with Cena it's just a cool smarky thing to do right now and always will be. His haters will eventually have to explain how Cena keeps coming up big in PPV matches and how business had been trending upward even though he gets booed.

I'm wondering how many more times they can cram some form of that awful Stallions/Shadows feud on Primetime.

Alleged Batista autobiography preview...WTF
Mad Dog replied to Bix's topic in Publications and Podcasts
Yes. Obviously. It's not that obvious, Oprah. It's extremely obvious. Cheating is what a big pussy like Batista does because he doesn't have the balls to just end things or to work it out. Just think of how you'd react to someone telling you they were divorced vs. they're currently cheating on their spouse. That's a world of difference. Anyways. The more I learn about Batista the more I can't stand him. He's just a smug dickhead if you ask me. -
Has anyone ever suggested before that it was brought on by trauma? Also, I've never heard of the hearing story. Crap, I don't even remember where I heard the hearing loss story anymore. Maybe he talks about it on his RoH shoot interview. I know he talks about the tumor quite a bit on there. As far as if wrestling caused it. Probably not but when you're talking about a style that creates a lot of head trauma and brain damage it makes you wonder a bit if it's related at all.
-
Just to add a name to the list of puro stars and head trauma, Jushin Liger had a brain tumor back in the 90s that cost him hearing in one ear.
-
But it's so easy for a guy that's just being himself.

I'd say Marufuji has a 100% chance of not being the GHC Champ for that match. He was a pretty poor draw as champion last year and I doubt they'd risk pairing him up with a foreigner for this show. Plus this is Misawa's big last run. He's going to get 8-10 defenses in before losing the belt.

Could possibly be public domain now.

Nice selection in shorties for once. Ultimo Dragon vs. Jushin Liger for the IWGP Junior Title. Rocca vs. Thesz and Billy Robinson vs. Don Kernodle.

Where did the "Tiger Mask brought flying to Mexico" talking point come from?
Mad Dog replied to Bix's topic in Pro Wrestling
It was about 50/50. If they were talking about shows it was kayfabed, any get to know you stuff was a shoot. The questions section in particular saw guys breaking character. I remember Rey was one that mentioned Tiger Mask. I think like Psicosis, Halloween and Juvy might've been others that had mentioned it. I don't have the magazines anymore so I can't look it up. Damn, should've kept those. -
Yeah that HHH made the Rock is one of the most ass backwards comments ever. HHH was not over at all until the Foley program. I found the most hilarious part of the WWE Championship History DVD was they totally exposed HHH as not being over for his early title wins. And really HHH has never been able to stay over. He has brief periods of with long periods of apathy towards him. If you ask me HHH has been the most counter-productive force ever seen in the WWE. He's ruined so many faces and heels it's not even funny.

I still think it comes from someone reading too much into him being an influence for most of the WCW luchadores. They would've all be young kids for his first run as I said earlier. I used to get WCW Magazine and they'd do questions every month and I remember his name came up a lot with the luchadores. -

I doubt the claim. It's just that lucha libre had such a long history before Tiger Mask that it doesn't seem possible. I think he probably unfairly gets the credit because when he started wrestling was when a lot of the luchadores of the 90s were kids and new to the whole lucha libre scene. They'll all talk about him because he was probably an early memory for them as far as wrestling so it makes people think that he brought high flying to Mexico. As far as high flying before Tiger Mask. There was Mil Mascaras, Gypsy Joe and El Santo doing dives and top rope splashes well before Tiger Mask showed up. -
Wayne is one of those guys, along with Quinn, that RoH continues to miss the boat on. He's not flashy but he does a lot of the things that seem lost in wrestling today. He throws a good punch, he uses logic in the ring and he cuts great promos. He won't grab you right away but the more you see of him the more you'll see all the little things that add up.
-
The master seemed pretty screwed up and almost borderline unplayable but I've noticed with a lot of these shows from the 80s that sound quality takes a huge dive when they show big arena footage.
-
We finally get the big Ric Flair vs. Kerry Von Erich rematch on WCCW. Hopefully this means they'll stop skipping weeks. Same with World Championship Wrestling now that the Horsemen stuff has started.
-
Actually I could totally buy it and out of most WWE guys I say he's probably the most likely to be clean. I say this only because I saw him as the Prototype pre-WWE and he's actually lost muscle since then. Actually quite a bit of muscle since then.

1. Bryan Danielson 2. Samoa Joe 3. Preston Quinn 4. John Cena 5. Damien Wayne

Deluded ECW fans?

Seems like that was it, there's a couple parts in the show that abruptly cut out like that. I've never seen it happen on a NWA episode before, Turner seemed to take such care of their tape library. Still, you gotta love how in the middle of what's essentially the go-home show for Starrcade they have an all-jobber six man tag team match. They had Fernandez/Landell which was a pretty good match.

Cryme Time wasn't due to the Wellness Policy. Supposedly they did something at a house show that upset management.
-
That's actually what I like about Chikara from what I've seen. They seem to do comedy really well and I like the over the top characters. It's mostly the price of the DVDs that keep me from giving them a try.
-
Not every match is spotty and I think it's just probably done better than what I've seen from Chikara. Plus the moves don't seem as contrived.
