I am going to order them today. I was interested but I needed them to show me that they were interested in actually moving on with the World Title but the shows were well received from what I saw.

Lee does a really good job with Spiderman when he shows up in other books of kind of making him obnoxious which he would come across to other heroes. I also like the relationship he has with the Human Torch. The love/hate sort lf rivalry they have is really special and I am sad it's kind of lost in modern comics. I will add that I think The Thing is the best character Stan Lee wrote. Once they got him figured out and he kind of became that cool degenerate uncle he really became a great character.

They really get Spiderman right almost straight out of the gate. The first 10ish issues are hit and miss but I think by the first appearance of Green Goblin it's just firing on all cylinders. I think Spiderman really benefits from not having any real superhero conventions. He doesn't have a defined weakness like other Silver Age heroes. Lee and Ditko use his normal life to hamper him as a hero. Really good early villains too as they all have reasonable origin stories. It's really both Lee and Ditko's best work as they just break all the rules and I agree completely stands out against its contemporaries.

Things get lost in the shuffle when you hoard talent just to try and starve out competition. You would think someone had a spreadsheet that had expiration dates on it though.

Dipping my toes into the Demon Slayer manga. Really enjoyed the first 12 chapters or so. It's kept a nice pace and got through the training phase relatively quickly. It feels fairly different for being a shonen battle manga.

That's really unfair. Mike Bennett was at least decent as part of the Kingdom and there was some good stuff with the Briscoes.

The first one or two where they were rehabbing the division I think were okay. Her best run was probably when her and Sasha hothsotted the belt a few times. But everyone's best stuff is with Sasha so that's not saying much.

I'm not even a huge Bianca fan but I fucking hate having my time wasted. What do you even do with her going forward? You spent months building her up just to cut her off at the knees. That match is the exact reason I learned to never invest in anyone in WWE.

They couldn't even get CM Punk in Chicago right at this point.

The Johns run on Hawkman is really good if you haven't read it. I like the concept of Hawkman but it's really over complicated. I do find the Golden Age Hawkman stories to be fun for what they are though.

Astro City is back under Image on ComiXology.

I really liked Action Comics as a team up book. That was always fun and they dug up some obscure people like the Metal Men.

What is the general opinion around here towards John Bryne's Superman. I read all of that era a couple of years ago and really liked a lot of it. I liked how they brought Superman's powers down a little. I also thought Clark Kent was really well done in this era. He's a super accomplished writer and Lois feels threatened by his success more than anything.

Well, I did a stupid thing and got into the Marvel Legends figures after decades of saying no to toys. I think the kicker was we moved into a new house and I actually have an area for them now. Anyone else here collect any action figures?

Yeah, I didn't know who Ram V was but he's really won me over with some good work on Swamp Thing thus far.

Him piledriving Hector Guerrero is one of my favorite angles from SMW.

The match where Sting wins the TV Title from Mike Rotunda. Smartly worked match with a hot crowd, tons of tension and JR and Hayes just killing it on commentary. It's not the best match by any means but I think it's a definitive representation of what NWA wrestling was about.

The Jim Cornette Experience
Mad Dog replied to flyonthewall2983's topic in Publications and Podcasts
My problem with the women's wrestling push is the constant overpraise of super mediocre matches. Yes, there are some good high end matches in WWE but the vast majority of their women's matches are still snoozefests especially if you have access to promotions like Ice Ribbon or Stardom or even Impact honestly. There's good women's wrestling out there but you wouldn't know it because it's all about a couple of women in WWE. Like a great example is WarGames in NXT. NXT has ruined WarGames in general but the need to have a women's WarGames waters the gimmick down. Like sure, if you have a good narrative reason, go for it but it just feels tacked on most years. -
There's actually a good clip of Cornette talking about comics. He got into Marvel right when it was just pouring out great stuff on a monthly basis. I was actually kind of sad I was younger and couldn't have that same experience with Marvel.

I find older stuff easier to understand and follow. Things like Marvel Unlimited and DC Universe make buying floppies a poor deal. But your experience isn't unusual. Manga and Scholastic releases like Dog Man just destroy comics now. They did it to themselves with short term thinking.

Comics have kind of become a game of when they finally cross that line for someone on price and reboots. The fandom does get toxic but the companies all employ very predatory business practices and are just at the point of gouging whatever they can get out of the couple of fabs still buying their books.

Yeah, that's always the best parts of his shows. I think he has sold off a lot of it. I know he sold his copy of Amazing Fantasy #15.

I agree on Dracula. I wouldn't say he has any kind of moral code but he often seems to value the game of one upping people making things more challenging. You can tell when he feels threatened because a lot of that goes away. I am really interested to see the elements Hannibal King adds. I didn't know much about the character so the ending of #25 took me a bit by surprise. They are killing me with the slow roll out about Taj though. I want to know so bad and they are just drip feeding his backstory right now and it's so interesting.

I moved over to Tomb of Dracula and I'm 26 issues into that. It's a really refreshing take on horror with some heroic elements. I really like the early Blade as he brought some much needed flavor to the protagonist side of the book. I really enjoyed the crossover with the Werewolf. Gene Colan is really becoming a favorite artist for me through this book and his Doctor Strange issues. Just such a great attention to detail.

WWE TV 7/5 - 7/11 I guess no one watched Raw last night
Mad Dog replied to NintendoLogic's topic in WWE
I think it's past the point of recovering. They have burned people so bad that they would need at least a year of amazing programming to even get people to start giving them a chance again. They would need an entire flush of creative and just start over with new people.
