WWE TV 04/26 - 05/02 Roman Reigns fans are the smartest in the world
Mad Dog replied to KawadaSmile's topic in WWE
I just don't get this. You have a giant archive of footage. Throw that guy in a booth with Corey and Byron and then break down what he does well and needs to work on. It feels like it's a fixable problem. -
Battle of the Tough Guys: No Holds Barred II - Austin Aries vs. Low-Ki
Mad Dog replied to C.S.'s topic in Pro Wrestling
For my money. Low Ki vs. Samoa Joe Fight Without Honor is still the best match in RoH history and I've never quite seen a match like it since. -
Early Thor is a tough read. I think Spider-Man is far and away the best title of that early Marvel stuff. Iron Man and Doctor Strange are probably the next best stories.
-
That first 6 issue run of Hulk really stood out to me when I read all of the 60s Marvel output. It was the one series that IMO completely fell on it's face and you could tell by issue 3 that they were just flailing around trying to find some setup for the character that worked. You wouldn't even know it's the same character when he shows up in the Avengers a year or so later.
-
It's probably the cheapest option. IVP finally starting selling their shows again but I think it's newer stuff and there just aren't any torrents out there because Gabe was sending C&Ds.
-
Yeah. I would like to know too. I really fell off when they made it next to impossible to get their shows when DGUSA was a thing.
-
Yes! That women's match is really solid and shows how much of a joke women's wrestling eventually became.
-
Missed the other post.

It's funny you mention that. My mom used to mention stuff that my grandfather watched wrestling wise in the 50s. One that always stuck with her was the Iron Russian. I didn't know what the fuck she was talking about until I finally found results from Al Haft's MWA posted somewhere. Literally first match I saw, tag team called the Iron Russians. Literally I couldn't figure this out for 15 years.
-
It took them 8ish years to finally do something I truly haven't liked with the World Title introduction. Having a stable direction that takes you somewhere, makes you want to see it and then gives it to you isn't lazy or bad. Most of the best angles in wrestling were simple concepts executed well.

The Thread Killer Talks Too Much: The Recaps
Mad Dog replied to The Thread Killer's topic in Pro Wrestling
I hope you get feeling better. It was awesome getting to bullshit with you and do a podcast. We need to do another one when you're feeling better so we can bitch more about e-fedding. You can probably pull your drive even if the laptop is dead. I had that happen once and just got an external drive case for it. It's actually fairly easy to do. If you get a new computer shoot me a message and I'll help you through it. -
Aside from that angle the rest of the show was pretty meh. It feels like they're just spinning their wheels in a lot of areas.
-
The Tag Title angle this week and was really fucking good. Tim Storm is such a great talent.
-
Low Ki doesn't seem so much a cancer backstage as he just quits on you after 6 months.
-
I think that speaks to how good Low Ki is that companies know they'll get burned eventually and still use him. Usually it's guys like ACH or David Starr where you just see them slowly burn bridges across a variety of promotions.
-
Impact was kind of rebounding around that era. They were doing better houses than RoH was before the pandemic hit.
-
I looked at results and I can't remember who that was with. I had forgotten about the Britt Baker concussion.
-
I don't think so but there might have been follow up with details. Her deal was almost expired at the time or possible expired.
-
She didn't want to travel because of COVID, which is fair, but then she wanted 150k for returning the belt.
-
Her recent antics with the Impact World Title would hurt her future employment. Promotions will forgive being an asshole but I don't think they'll take a chance on people that might steal your belt.
-
Didn't she get into some sort of shooty thing with someone on one of those early shows? I remember there being an incident and her usage went way down.
-
Oh shit, I'm down if we can get Sexy Starr for this.
-
Like is Bart Gunn going to be WWF Champion and draw you millions upon millions of dollars? No. Was Steve Williams? Also no. Could you have used that to build Bart Gunn into a mid-carder that has bouts of upper mid-card play and is over? Probably.
-
Having a recap episode 3 episodes in was some of the dumbest shit I have ever seen. You can't fucking charge a subscription fee and then have dead weeks not even a month in. They are quickly on thin ice with me.
-
I think he would have been fine in the mid-card. JR and Cornette sound insane thinking he was working on top with Austin. I just don't see it all. Wrong kind of charisma and good ringwork meant almost nothing in this era. If this were WCW and we were talking Goldberg/Williams on top, I would still be skeptical but could see that as a possibility. I think Russo is an idiot but Cornette especially came across as very lazy and close minded booking wise. Saying they couldn't do anything with Bart Gunn really fucking annoyed me. You didn't even fucking try.
