The first live studio episode of the WWA's as yet unnamed TV show on July 2 is shaping up to be one of the most historic nights in WWA history. No matches have been officially announced as of yet, but the rumor mill is flying. The WWA board of directors has been in meetings as of late to determine the best way to proceed with handling all the new talent coming in. A new commissioner for the WWA will be announced at the start of the telecast, and he better know what he's getting himself into. We are also hearing that a wrestler who is not currently under a WWA contract will be at the WTTV studios on July 2 and has requested some TV time. Who is this mystery wrestler, and why does he want time on our television program? You'll have to tune in on July 2 to find out!

Skip Young (Sweet Brown Sugar) going to Wahoo hurts as I had come up with the idea of him forming a tag team with Bobo Brazil and Brazil essentially being his mentor. Luckily I wasn't planning it as a top of the card angle and can work around it. -

To answer a couple of questions from earlier in this thread: Wikipeida claims a debut date of 1982 but the earliest result I can find of Tracy Smothers is September 18, 1984. Parv can't draft Dick the Bruiser since he owns WWA -
Joe Blanchard apologizes for his oversight to this matter. He would like to know if the WWA is still planning to send a representative? The WWA is still interested however the team planned for the spot will be unavailable. I will be in touch with you privately after the next round of the draft

I had Buddy Roberts on my list but didn't see the value in him not being a Freebird. Bravo was on my list and I was debating taking him instead of Dillon but I didn't seem to have a role for him -
The WWA selects James J. Dillon

If WWA can have him in Chicago on Saturday, August 20 that would be amazing. Not that far from his Toronto appearance the following night either.

The WWA is pleased to announce they have completed a trade with Southeastern. They will send Southeastern it's next pick (round 7) in exchange for the rights to Mike Rotundo.

Just don't take Mosca, Jr. He's the shits. Mosca Jr. isn't even in my top 100. He'll make an excellent 30 second squash guy when I draft him as the last guy available though -

Rotundo and Brad Armstrong going the last few hours have me totally boned. I'm not sure anybody else in my top 20 are going to fit in the same role. -
No to the retired wrestlers. Terry Funk and Gino Hernandez wouldn't have made it out of the first round otherwise

I appreciate that. The current plan is to make our big shows happen on Saturday nights and the live studio format is more conducive to that. For example, in 1983 it would have been around a 4 hour drive (maybe less) from Indianapolis to Chicago. It's easier to do TV in Indy at 11am and drive to the International Ampitheatre for an 8pm show than it would be to run two separate nights. Taping Saturday nights means doing the big show either on a Sunday night or during the week and I want to take advantage of kids and teenagers not having school the next day.
-
Just for the record I do plan on WWA switching to a studio taping on Saturday mornings (airing live in Indy and on a few hour tape delay the rest of the territory) but I'm willing to loan out one or two guys at a time to work TV for other companies we have agreements with (we can always air pretapes if we need those guys featured on our TV).

I figured one of Hector and Mando would fall to me. -
If I get the next person I want to draft, the WWA would like to send a representative to the tournament. I will contact you directly after my next pick either way if there is still an open spot.

I would like a month controlling the freelancers as well. Anything else I'm open for whatever.

I'm shocked that Chavo was still on the board as he was the main guy I was debating on between him and Masked Superstar. -
The WWA is looking for a hispanic babyface for when they book Chicago and as such selects Chavo Guerrero

It was very hard for me to decide on Masked Superstar because my top 5 would have all been great choices but I doubt any of them are making it to my next pick. -
The WWA selects Masked Superstar

Owners: Dick the Bruiser (& Wilbur Snyder?) Announcer: Apparently the announcer at this point was David McLane of future GLOW fame which really makes me wish we could have drafted announcers Referees: Johnny Shorn, Bill Beach, Henry Van Loon and Connie Marker. Heels: Larry Zbyszko Dory Funk Jr. Masked Superstar Blackjack Mulligan James J. Dillon (manager/occasional wrestler) Bobby Colt Jerry Valiant Abdullah the Great Zoltan the Great Black Gordman Goliath Fred Marzino Babyfaces: Bobo Brazil Jimmy Snuka Chavo Guerrero Mike Rotundo Brickhouse Brown Dick the Bruiser Salvatore Bellomo Kelly Kiniski Jerry Oske Spike Huber Billy Anderson Jules Strongbow Frankie Laine Arnold Skaaland Television: The WWA is pleased to announce that effective July 2, 1983, the company will return to WTTV channel 4 in Indianapolis with live matches taking place at 10am from the WTTV studios, with the show also airing throughout Indiana, Illinois, and northwest Ohio early that same afternoon. Live events: Major shows will take place every 2-3 months at major arenas throughout the region, with house shows taking place on various dates throughout the region. Major shows will generally take place on Saturday nights with the idea that TV that morning will be the final push for those events. The first major show is tentatively scheduled for August 20, 1983 at the International Ampitheatre in Chicago. There will be few (if any) house shows in July as the new roster gets established. Titles: WWA World Heavyweight Title: Bobby Colt WWA World Tag Team Title: Jerry Valiant & Abdullah the Great

WWA hadn't promoted there since losing the promotional war to The Sheik in the 70s but they did promote in Toledo, OH which isn't super far away. I'm more shocked that the WWF and GCW were potentially fighting over my hometown of Warren than I was Cleveland.
-
Not that there's an NWA territory in Detroit to worry about but the WWF didn't promote there until January 1984
-
The World Wrestling Association is also requesting membership into the NWA and will either establish a new "regional" title to replace its World Heavyweight Title or request a date with Harley Race in late August to unify the two, depending on how the draft plays out. This would give the NWA a presence in Indianapolis and Chicago as well as the northwest portion of Ohio, particularly Toledo.
