  1. I know the PPV numbers in Canada weren't being reported because there weren't enough buys, and I work for Dish Network and can't say I ever took an order for an ROH PPV.

  3. I hate to bring my own show into a topic like this, but I had to share this. On Smart Mark Radio tonight, Ric Lieb actually tried to convince me and the panel that the David Von Erich Memorial Parade of Champions, headlined by Kerry Von Erich winning the NWA World Heavyweight Championship over Ric Flair in memory of recently deceased David Von Erich, only had the crowd it did (which he tried to claim was 80,000) because it was Flair defending the title. I'm pretty sure that Kerry going for the title in David's memory was the actual draw, and it didn't matter if it was Flair, Harley Race, Terry Funk, or just about anybody else on the opposite side of the ring. The crowd would have been similar anyway because of the circumstance, not because of the opponent. I don't listen to too many of these shows other than mine, but there have to be other instances of simply mind-numbingly stupid comments on these internet radio shows/podcasts.
  4. Meltzer used "Junkfood Dog" long before SK ever started recapping wrestling tapes.
  5. I used to enjoy recapping Raw on TSM, and I often trashed the show. That does sorta make sense.
  6. I'm still going to disagree with the first two falls. Building up to the big moves is fine and, quite frankly, should be done. But I never got a sense that there was any need to win the first fall for the psychological advantage, nor did I sense any urgency to win the second fall and keep the match alive. It felt more like "Get this stuff in and go to the finish" than a setup for bigger things. The third fall is awesome.
  7. Either the date is a typo or they lost the date because 2/30 doesn't exist.
  8. I want to say Ron Reese was the Yeti/Big Ron Studd. Jerry Reese (no relation) was Big Red/ Vodoo Malumba. Ah, the Yetti. How could I forget. If Malumba was in fact Ron Reese, he would've dry humped his opponents into submission. WTF? I don't think I've ever heard Studd listed in any of Meltzer's storngest men in wrestling articles. Who knows. He was talking about weight lift contests and how sometimes they're gimmicked and sometimes not. Somehow he trailed into saying how Studd could legit out-bench anyone in wrestling or football. This would have been around the time Studd "broke" the bench press record on TNT, I assume?
  9. Nobody's going to try to bust this one? I know I won't (I love me some Gordon Solie commentary) but I expected some opposition to it.
  10. And Vince can still blame it on the NBA and the Pepsi Center, because had they not been forced out of the Pepsi Center they wouldn't have cancelled on the World Arena. Cancelling the World Arena is bullshit, but that'll be Vince's take on it.
  11. Try reading one of SK's wwe.com Legacy rants without wanting to throw something through your monitor. Christ, the comments are more entertaining than his reviews/
  12. Pretty slow going early on, but the final 6-8 minutes is fantastic. This doesn't follow the stereotype of quiet and polite Japanese crowds, as they're into everything over the final few minutes. There are better juniors matches, but I wouldn't be afraid to show this to an American fan who had never seen puro as an example of what to expect from Japanese wrestling.
  13. This is definitely better from a technical standpoint than the WWC match. I will say the story of the WWC match is better IMO, particularly leading to the pieldriver spot, but this is better from a technical standpoint and an in-ring standpoint. Barr and Eddy play the dick rudo role so well that I even started rooting against them, and Eddy's one of my ten favorite workers of all time.
  14. This was by far the best match on the disc and would be a surefire nomination from me if I were on the DVDVR All Japan committee. After the long discussion about the Flair Formula, and it's definitely not in effect here. Incredible action from bell-to-bell, and the hour flew by as well.
  15. Me: Watching and trying to pay attention so I can comment. My girlfriend: "What the fuck is this? I thought you were watching a wrestling DVD." I was too busy laughing to finish watching and had to watch it twice. Cookie cutter hype video. What saddens me is not that Rick Rude is dead, but that all those hot chicks in the video are probably pushing 50 now and thus aren't as hot.
  16. Here's my problem with a lot of the lucha I've seen, especially singles with two out of three falls. There's no drama in the first two falls. That's the case here. First fall: Both guys do stuff, one cover and the fall is over. Second fall: Both guys do stuff, one submission attempt and the fall is over. The third fall of this is great with the action and the near falls, but it felt the first two falls were there simply because they wanted a three fall match.
  17. Simply a fantastic match here. I don't mind slow pacing to a match when the pacing is building up to something, and in this case it all built up to some fantastic action late in the match.
  18. This was an awesome start to the set. This is seriously among the best Zbyszko matches I've ever seen, largely because he's not stalling and he's actually bumping more than I've ever seen him. What's awesome about this is this wasn't even the best match of the PPV.
  19. I believe they don't want to move the NBA game because then the Eastern Conference finals and Western Conference finals game would be played at the same time on Tuesday night, cutting into TV advertising revenue. The NHL has no problem moving games because the people running the NHL are retarded and don't understand marketing. The recent game 7 between Boston and Carolina was joined in progress. A game 7....joined in progress.....embarrassing. The NHL also has just two American national TV contracts: NBC and Vs. Considering NBC is too scared of perceived poor ratings to show more than one NHL game per week, they were kind of handcuffed. The NBA has one series on TNT and the other on ABC/ESPN with staggered start times. No reason the Eastern Conference game can't start at 7:30 and the Western Conference game at 10:30.
  20. The fact that enough people know who Scott Keith is for Dave Meltzer to take a shot at him and have people know what he's talking about is a sad state of affairs.

  23. Most of the WWF stuff in jdw's long post is in WWE's video library and every once in a while they dig out something that never aired, so you might see that yet. WWE.com Legacy actually put the full Backlund-Race unification match up last month, and since it didn't even make the History of the WWE Championship DVD I never thought we'd even see a poor quality version of it surface.
