That match started out with fists-a-fury. Gibson had been sidelined for six months with a knee injury -- of course they had to exploit it. If there's a criticism, it's that I wish at the end, Gibson had a longer comeback and maybe one really hot near fall. His selling was top notch, and I loved Morton going after the brace. I loved it.

Just watched Morton/Gibson from the Great American Bash '91 show in preparation for the '91 yearbook. It's a match that just falls short of great because Gibson doesn't really get a good comeback, but it's an excellent match that really deserves to be revisited. I think it would be far more fondly remembered on a different show.

The point of the "Get It?" campaign was that not liking wrestling because it's fake misses the point that it's still an enjoyable form of entertainment. I thought that was obvious.

She's so unusual! In not respecting the business, Cyndi Lauper showed her true colors. But she still cashed her paychecks, so I guess money changes everything. She drove all night?

The Attitude era was both great and horrible. Everyone is right.

Nash has said before that fans were turning on Goldberg and were sick of the streak, and the proof was that the WWF was beating them at the time. That's not completely untrue, but it was mostly teenage smark types who were turning on the streak.

"He's ambitiously stupid" - Why Scott Keith's new book is scary bad

Yes, it's very wrong, as Austin did blame Owen. Even if the move was planned, he didn't execute it properly, and he never even apologized for it. It seems like I have always heard that Austin wasn't crazy about doing the spot anyway, as he remembered injuring Chono's neck in Japan with a similar move, but Owen assured him he'd be safe. Not sure if that part is accurate, but I do know Austin held it against Owen. He even mentioned it in a Rolling Stone article. -

Dutch Mantell is pretty scuzzy himself, but he's so articulate and clever that every time he talks, he's humanized. -
Please let your focus be on 1991. This is where my research efforts are at the moment.

I've looked under pretty much every rock in existence for 1990 and I'm happy with the list as it stands at the moment, so closing this thread.

Closing this since the 1994 Yearbook will be out in the very near future.

So going back to Dylan's post ... yeah, I don't think I've ever seen a Savannah Jack match either. Is it possible that the level of push Snowman and Jack both received to replace JYD is a little bit of revisionist history? When I think about the most pushed guys in 1985/1986, I think of DiBiase, Murdoch, Terry Taylor, Dr. Death, Eddie Gilbert and the Freebirds. Surely, if Watts was trying to recreate JYD, he'd make a bigger go of it, right? -

And oddly enough, I have watched most of the Mid South footage that exists and I don't think I've ever seen The Snowman on Mid South TV, or heard him mentioned, or heard Muhammad Ali mentioned. It clearly happened, but this is all new to me. When Foley talked about Jake no-selling Ali in Mid South, I could never figure out the time period, but figured it had to be before the mid 80s when more footage was available. -

Just Googled and yeah, The Snowman is Eddie Crawford, and Savannah Jack is Teddy Russell. Not the same person. I stand corrected. I must have mis-read whatever was posted. -

I don't think so. Savannah Jack died recently and in Dave's Observer obit, he says Savannah Jack's career ended due to heart problems in 1987. He does not mention the Snowman at all. I'm pretty sure he mentioned him as The Snowman in the original coverage on the web site. -

Not sure HHH has ever had a match as compelling as anything in the Lawler/Snowman series. -

To add to that just a little, Rude/Warrior at Summerslam '89 is arguably better than any HHH match that has ever happened. I realize that Rude was the one directing traffic and doing the heavy lifting in that match -- to a point where it's one of the best one-man shows in wrestling history -- but Warrior was a more-than-capable passenger in that match. -

Bull Nakano vs Devil Masami, JWP 4/18/93 My comments are a bit ambiguous here, but I've grown to LOVE this over time, and I think old school types will really dig this.

This conversation is taking place on two levels. "Women can't beat men in shoots" is one. "Women as performers can be compared to men as performers" is the other. On the first point, I agree and on the second point, I agree. The points are completely unrelated to each other, though.
