jdw cons Internet wrestling fans into thinking that Ric Flair sucked. Sorry, it made me laugh and I had to post it.
-
Ric Flair also allegedly physically attacked his ex-wife, and was once arrested when caught in a car with an underage girl who was driving drunk. He claimed he had no idea she was underage and was just asking for a ride because he was too drunk to drive. Less than most wrestlers, but there are still things there.

If it warrants a thread, start a thread. Be the change you want to see in the world.

You can compare Dana White to Vince McMahon. You can not compare fighters to pro wrestlers. They have absolutely nothing in common.

That's like saying cartoons and everyday life are just alike, except one is drawn and the other is not.

This still seems like a pretty unimportant story in general for some reason. The only significant market in Georgia is Atlanta. WWE very rarely runs shows there, and it's been a dead market since the Fingerpoke of Doom in '99. Is Georgia really such a hot market that it's worth protecting by forming a band of promoters to combat The Man? Seriously, just move out of the state.

Wow. I don't have anything to add, but hopefully this will take off and be a blast to read. I wonder what his views are on the war in Iraq.

If they Sue Vince for that, Why don't they sue Paul Heyman, Ted Turner and whoever was in charge of a promotion Benoit wrestled in? Who says they shouldn't?
-
I would think Jerry McDevitt running rumors that Daniel had Fragile X Syndrome throughout the media, which he says was based on WWE's own investigations and which later turned out to not be true, would be slander, and would not help their case at all. I don't think the argument of the lawsuit will be that WWE is responsible for the murders, but rather that WWE is responsible for Benoit's deteriorating state of mind that led to the murders. I'm not even sure I 100% agree with that, but there's way more of a case there.

Suggestions for things to include in the future

That's the set. That's exactly what I was looking for. Thanks! -
I think there's a list somewhere. I'll see if I can find it.

Dump is mindblowing and terrifying. I have never seen a wrestler who is anywhere near as good a heel as her. Dump Matsumoto & Crane Yu vs. Lioness Asuka & Jumbo Hori This is NUTS! My favorite match so far, with Dump and Crane both awesome and using everything from the microphone, tables and garbage cans as weapons, while Lioness and Jumbo try in vain to fight back with actual wrestling moves. Imagine Choshu/Yatsu vs Lawler/Dundee taking place in FMW. My favorite match so far.

From 08/23/86 Kawasaki: JB Angels vs. Yukari Omori & Hisako Uno (2/3) I'm not overly excited about it, but it's still a very good match, especially when Omori and Yamazaki are in there. Also fun to see early Hokuto. Omori is older than pretty much everyone else and tends to take a beating as much as or more than everyone else. She's going to be a standout on this set in a good way. If you're familiar with the WWF version of the JBAs, this is a different dynamic, as Yamazaki is super aggressive and full of fire while Tateno is more demure and reserved. She makes the mistake of reluctantly calling out Omori, which really just seals her fate. WWWA Tag Team titles: Chigusa Nagayo & Kazue Nagahori vs. Dump Matsumoto & Bull Nakano This match is awesome and is the first match I've watched so far that really feels like an 80s AJW match. I always like Dump, but I like her even more when she doesn't have scissors in the ring trying to cut everyone's hair. Nagahori gets flattened like a pancake in a very, very, very quick first fall, and Chigusa's chances seem pretty slim, especially when even with the one-woman advantage, she's still having to deal with outside interference (triple spike piledriver!). Nagahori eventually comes back, but is basically just a punching bag. Lots has been said the past few years about people overanalyzing wrestling, but this stuff is such a nuanced morality play that there's probably a few essays worth of material in this whole feud. Dump and Bull bring out the best in each other as a team.

All from August '86 TV: Bull Nakano, Condor Saito, Dump Matsumoto & Yasuko Ishiguro vs. Kanako Nagatomo, Sayuri Nakajima, Kyoko Aso & Yukari Omori (Elimination match) Really great match! Dull crowd by AJW standards, but it looked to be mostly adults without too many teenage girls, which would explain it. Standouts here are Dump, who always brings the violence and forced ideology; Bull Nakano, who's better in the ring than Dump and really feels like that first lieutenant that's a little batshit and believes in the cause almost too much; and Yukari Omori, who puts on a great selling performance, and she's isolated against the entire time before pinning all of Dump's subordinates and eventually meeting her end. Doesn't really feel like 25 minutes at all, and the action is great. Leilani Kai vs. Itsuki Yamazaki Kind of a weird match. Dump's Army accompanying Kai just because she's American and I guess supposed to be a heel as a result seems really forced. Kai doesn't look like them or act like them in the slightest. With these matches, sometimes, the liberal amount of interference in plain sight of the ref doesn't bother me if it is the result of something important or leads somewhere, but here, it's just annoying. I do like that Yamazaki was a real badass and was able to make her own save against all the outside interference and then lost on a screwjob where she had her foot in the rope during the pin. I've always heard people talk about the JBAs as midcarders in AJW, but if that's the case, they were awfully protected in booking if this is any indication. Yumiko Hotta, Noriyo Tateno & Chigusa Nagayo vs. Devil Masami, Yumi Ogura & Mika Komatsu (2/3) Devil Masami is always amazing. I love that she keeps this really pristine appearance at all times, even while doing something incredibly athletic or violent. The match is kind of "anything-you-can-do-I-can-do-better", with Chig basically taking out a subordinate, Dev responding by doing the same and then the competition getting a little more spirited and even (but never too unfriendly) in the third fall. I'm describing this in a way where it sounds like kind of an ass match, but it's actually really good. Devil and Chigusa always have awesome chemistry.

So what changed for him where he's suddenly fine? That's the part I don't understand. His first match back he was going through tables.
-
Okay, not sure how to label this because I'm not even sure it's what happened. But I do suspect it? I do think Shawn Michaels had a bad back in 1998. But I think he exaggerated it because he didn't want to walk behind Austin, all while staying under contract and getting paid main event money to do nothing for four years. Suddenly, he finds God right around the same time Hulk Hogan bombs and Steve Austin and The Rock leave. "Miraculously" his back is healed and he can suddenly come back and take huge bumps like he never left. It still doesn't make sense.

The "I don't even like to call it a style" line from HHH is likely intended to be a cheapshot at Foley. WWE documentaries aren't about facts, they're about creating and keeping a narrative going. Anyone who counts on WWE to tell the truth about anything in something they're producing for entertainment purposes is naive. Lying is part of wrestling.

I think Holly had something to do with that. I think I've read that he complained about Snow getting the spot, but I'm not sure.
-
Thanks for the links, guys. I'm aware of both of those places, but they tend to only have results for big shows. I guess there's no Cawthon-like site for New Japan.
-
Anyone know a good New Japan results site? I'm trying to find dates on some 1990-1992 matches. The old WONs I've been searching forever and none of the matches I have on tape appear to be covered, or I'm just overlooking them.

SPOILER ALERT FROM THE IRAQ SHOW Sure sounds like they may be going in that direction.
-
According to the Torch, everyone in the company is already pretty down on him. There are tentative plans to do Jericho/JBL at Wrestlemania, which sure sounds like a burial because JBL would eat him alive on the mic at this point, and also because JBL is usually who they send after people they want to be stiffed in the ring.

Suggestions for things to include in the future
Loss replied to Loss's topic in Feedback and Suggestions
I have some NOAH vs NJPW Box Set from the 2002-2003 feud and wanted to include one of the better Liger or Kikuchi tags. Anyone have a recommendation for which one would be the best one? I'd provide a match list of the box set to give a starting point, but I can't seem to find one on the Internet. Hopefully, the best stuff is among what I have. -
All I could think when I saw this thread title was how PERFECT this topic is for this folder. I'm hoping they still have the original theme music.

This shouldn't come as a surprise. According to the latest WON, HHH has been going around to younger wrestlers telling them they should be very excited about the next round of house shows. When they ask why, HHH says because our savior is here. He made the same comment to Michaels, telling him that he should reconsider his decision not to work house shows because they're all going to make so much money with Jericho coming back to save the business. HHH has also been saying that Flair's return will draw far more money and is far more important. It's pointed out that HHH usually only makes comments like these on chartered flights or during the week when the rest of the wrestlers aren't around. Stephanie still seems to be pretty strongly in Jericho's corner, though.
