Hogan wants Horace to come out. He tells him to shoot and tell everyone his name. He admits that his name is Horace Hogan. Hulk reveals that Horace is his nephew and talks about how much he loves him. This segment is just tanking live. Post-Havoc showed that Hogan was starting to see the writing on the wall. Anyway, Hogan beats up his nephew to show how ready he is to kick ass at Havoc or something. TERRIBLE. Did they really think Hogan getting heat on HORACE was the best go-home angle for Hogan vs Warrior? Pretty embarrassing to see Hogan putting his all into such a crap segment. Warrior comes out to a mild pop and runs through the NWO with a baseball bat. Giant ends up attacking Warrior from behind and giving him a chokeslam. Not sure why they couldn't have just done that.

Minneapolis Mayor Sharon Sayles Belton makes an appearance and is immediately the most over heel in WCW. She introduces John Randall of the Vikings and Kirby Puckett of the Twins, which seems to turn her babyface. They are here to declare today Ric Flair Day in Minneapolis. Flair barely gets his first sentence out when Eric Bischoff shows up. I'm not sure what to make of all of these local sports celebrity angles, but they do work with live crowds. "I don't need some mayor with three names in the pig farming capital of the world coming out here screwing up my show" was a great line from Bischoff that made me laugh. The mayor is having a little too much fun and gets in a shouting match with Bischoff before John Randall and Kirby Puckett stand him down. Flair dances in the background. It's pointed out that Bischoff has unpaid warrants he needs to take care of. Bischoff says, "I paid those!" and again makes me laugh. Bischoff goes backstage to find a lawyer help him get out of his situation, only to find that they are towing his car. They are really doing a good job with the story of the Horsemen taking back their company by using whatever friends in high places they have in every town to make life miserable for Uncle Eric. Bischoff is awesome in this.

Rey is great in this match, going right to the mat and doing a rana from a Rocker Dropper position, which I'm not sure I'd seen him do before. He also made Kidman's dropkick look great by jumping up into it. They try to do a slow building match which the crowd doesn't appreciate. A GREEN BAY SUCKS chant starts, so I guess word of Monday Night Football spread during this match. Rey is really favoring his knee and Kidman is treating him so gingerly that I think their plans for the match may have gone awry because of a legit injury. Rey didn't miss any time, so it must not have been severe. Disappointing (even though I think it was pretty solid overall) when it seemed like they had a great match planned at the start that they didn't really get to do, but interesting to watch how this played out. I feel bad for these guys because Rey seemed to shake off whatever was ailing him down the stretch and the match was fun at that point, but the crowd is so distracted by football chants and doing the wave and they couldn't get them back. They went to a draw, which just seemed like the worst possible finish considering how this had fallen off the rails.

Jericho is getting over, but looking back, I do see some of the reasons not to shove him to the moon right away. He didn't really work like a main event heel in the ring. In an ideal world though, they'd realize he had something special and work with him to improve. Goldberg runs in the ring and spears Jericho when DDP is about to win the match, which pisses Page off. He then hits Jericho with a Diamond Cutter while Page and Goldberg have to be pulled apart.

Jericho is livid because he's beaten Goldberg three times and he's not getting any acknowledgment for it. He challenges Goldberg to come out so he can knock the hair off of his head. Jericho addresses DDP, who he calls Pah-jay, who he says has his rightful title shot. DDP interrupts him, calling him "Jerkico". Ralphus tries to provide security and DDP kicks him away. DDP tells him if he's going to run his mouth, they are having a match. Good to see Jericho mixing it up with a major player, but we know how this ends.

They got some weird drum-and-bass track. I understand having them around, but I don't understand producing a video to try to get them over when they aren't really characters.

Last few minutes. Undertaker and Kane are really bit players in their own main event, as they should be. The crowd completely shits on the two, as Undertaker seemed to be losing heat by the week during this time. I think the problem here is that these two had no real issue to build up this match. Austin's involvement was the selling point, so everyone was just waiting on the finish. The same being true of Venis-Goldust shows an increase in Russo influence. Undertaker and Kane end up ditching the match and taking Austin out, which makes no sense at all until Undertaker decides to attack Kane from behind. Paul Bearer ends up turning on Kane and reuniting with Undertaker. Austin looks at Undertaker like there's no way in hell he's counting that fall. The two argue and Austin stuns him and hits him with a chair to a huge pop before counting both out and declaring himself the winner. That is a terrible PPV main event finish under normal circumstances, but they make up for it with the post-match where Austin challenges Vince McMahon to fire him. He walks all over the backstage area and can't find him anywhere. He finally gets Vince in the upper deck of the building, which is sort of a weird visual. Vince ends up firing Austin with the words "SCREW YOU, YOU'RE FIRED". The fired Austin promises that we haven't seen the last of him. I sense that they played his music to make clear this was an angle, although as I recall the WWF got a ton of complaint phone calls the next day from people who really thought Austin was fired.

Flair is the guy others have to beat, but I'm trying to keep an open mind about that.

The crowd didn't get into this and I get that since the sensationalistic nature of the storyline really called for some type of wacky gimmick match. But this was a solid wrestling match. Val looked green and you can tell he was trying to keep up with Dustin, but he worked hard and did a good job. I don't get them doing a match focused around a short arm scissors when one guy fucked the other guy's wife, videotaped it and broadcast it on cable television. I think that hurt the heat, because Goldust was getting a chant by name when he was down, but they lost the crowd when he made his comeback. They got them back again when Terri got on the apron, which tells me people were into the angle and would have gotten into a match that better fit the context of the feud.

I thought this was an excellent match, even though I think they had better matches in 1997. This has the dynamic from those in reverse, with Felino as the underdog heel. Santo outwrestles him at every turn, and almost every momentum shift in Felino's favor is the result of luck and circumstance more than anything. At first I thought Felino didn't look nearly as credible as he needed to look, but considering the finish which only served to emphasize Felino's opportunism, it was actually foreshadowed pretty effectively.

I don't really appreciate anyone who wrestles in a vacuum and I place a huge amount of importance in knowing the audience. But it's hardly the only factor.

Done. Everything that has a date has a thread. If anyone has been able to figure out dates for the remaining matches and has shared those anywhere (I'm guessing they are trying to make sense of this at Classics), let me know and I'll add those in too.
