  1. Mongo talks about why he's a Horseman. Nice feature on McMichael's history including Mike Ditka. I remember Dave and Flair saying the best use of him would have been to go on ESPN and talk about upcoming WCW pay-per-views all the time.
  2. Here we are - one of the biggest shows in WCW history. DDP says this is going to be one of the worst week's of Hogan's life. Karl Malone has a great line, telling Rodman he's going to whip him like Madonna should have whipped him. This does not even remotely look like a wrestling company that won't survive the next three years. Sad and amazing all at once.
  3. Power Pro is outdoors today. Giant Silva is in the ring as the new king while Hales talks about how glad he is Lawler is gone. Lawler, however, is returning through the crowd. Lawler finally gets in the ring and punches Hales, but Giant Silva chokes him out. I'm not digging this blatant copying of Austin-McMahon too much, but that's more of a personal taste thing than it is something I'd call bad. Hales ends up bumping around for Stacy. This was fun. Lawler vs Silva is set for the next MSC show.
  4. Chavo tries to get Eddy out to the ring. He puts a burrito under a box and then chants "Here Eddy, Eddy, Eddy" in similar fashion to the Taco Bell chihuahua commercials at the time in an attempt to lure him. Eddy comes out - because hey, free burrito, who wouldn't? - but he is wise to Chavo's little plan. He looks under the box thinking he got Eddy, but Eddy was under the ring. He attacks Chavo from behind and throws a perfectly good burrito on him for good measure. Then he starts cutting Chavo's hair, but stops quickly.
  5. I wish they'd stop with the Raven vignettes. He has already debuted. He is front of a "Happiness is Helping Others" billboard while pointing out the wonderful things he has done for his Flock.
  6. JJ Dillon makes a major announcement - Hogan vs Goldberg for Nitro on Monday night! The announcers and fans go crazy. Incredible reaction to this. Wow.
  7. Jericho gets heat in Columbus, GA by saying Columbia, GA is his favorite town. The office wanted to put him on at the end of the show and he told them to sit on it! His fans wanted to see him first and they deserve the best. How kind Jericho is! Jericho decided to give the people something special - he's flown Rey Misterio Jr. in for a match but it's a little person under a hood. This crowd absolutely hates him. The little guy actually gets a couple of offensive moves on him and then Jericho pulls the bogus Rey on top of him to secure a win. Jericho gets out a fake "Wow, I can't believe he beat me" and says that must mean Rey is the #1 contender now so he'll have to face him at Bash at the Beach. Tremendous! I love this segment and Jericho trying to duck every real title match he can.
  8. Lots of props and dumb spots leading to Sabu and Rob Van Dam winning the tag titles.
  9. Because if the announcer doesn't think what we're watching is any good, why should we? Jim Ross didn't start using the bowling shoe line until 1998. He never would have said that about some of the bad matches he had to call in early 90s WCW. I have no problem promoting the idea that some wrestlers are better than others, but I do think everything (everything!) that we are seeing should be presented as worth watching, just as everyone that we are seeing should be presented as capable. Not everyone and everything is great, but wrestling is fake - it's about convincing people of things that aren't true. That's the art in it. They should at least try to make everything that we're watching seem worth our time. Otherwise, what's the point?
  10. I don't. Jerry Jarrett didn't even seem to, as he and Lance Russell have both told the story that Jerry told Lance not to hype every house show the same way, and to only act excited about the ones he was really excited about. He wanted Lance to retain his credibility. I don't recall Lance pointing out that he wasn't excited about any upcoming shows, or underselling them because they didn't do anything for him. That isn't really consistent with how Lance did his job. I agree that overhype can be a turn off, but again, I think there is a way to measure it. There's a difference between saying Van Hammer sucks and saying that scientific wrestling isn't Van Hammer's forte, but he looks to be improving by the week and has an impressive won-loss record. I don't think less of Jim Ross if he says nice things about Van Hammer, as long as he's not comparing him to Ric Flair.
  11. So the love of Dusty as a commentator wasn't ironic? Interesting.
  12. The Dudleys are here to pay tribute to a fallen Beulah, and they have an inflatable doll with them to represent her. Atsushi Onita comes out as a mystery partner fro Sandman and Dreamer, but it was all a swerve as Onita turns on them. This brings out New Jack, but he gets attacked from behind by Jack Victory. Finally, Spike it out to make the save for the good guys and does a number on everyone in the ring until Big Dick puts him through a ringside table. Jeff Jones also turns. This is too much stuff. There's garbage wrestling, then there's garbage.
  13. Storm is back with the Triple Threat. Not sure I get it. Douglas points out that Taz is not responsible for the injury, but rather he only aggravated it. This brings Taz out. Taz wants to fight Douglas with one arm behind his back. This feud has gone nowhere all year. Bigelow accepts on Taz's behalf and they have an impromptu match that thankfully we don't have to see.
  14. The joke in the early 90s was that Dave Meltzer, Brian Pillman and Scott Levy all looked identical, but obviously that wasn't the case after a few years.

  16. Last few minutes. Undertaker shows up at ringside. Austin pins Kane to retain the title and gets an awesome reaction. Austin gives Undertaker a stunner to close out the show. It's starting to look like Austin may have to contend with Undertaker and Kane as a duo. The WWF is still on a roll!
  17. Undertaker says he couldn't sit back and let his brother set himself on fire the night before. That's why he interfered and hit Austin with the chair. Undertaker gets boos for that, then Vince comes out. Vince thinks Undertaker is vile, contemptible and evil and also says the reason he wanted Kane to win was because he's incapable of beating Austin. He issues a warning to Undertaker not to interfere in the main event.
  18. Interesting for a few reasons, one being that I'm told they used an underage model as Yamaguchi's wife. Val is propositioning her and when Kaientai objects, they eat chairshots. Meanwhile, Dustin Rhodes does color commentary and tries to preach the word of God to Ross and Lawler.
  19. Ross offers condolences to Pat Patterson for his recent loss, as Lou Dondero has died. Vince introduces Kane as the new WWF champ. Paul Bearer cuts an awesome promo in celebration. Just as Vince is about to strap the belt on Kane, Austin's music starts. Austin is really pissed off and great here, even more than usual. He wants a rematch and the pressure is on. Vince tries to pass the buck to Paul Bearer to okay it, and Paul Bearer does the same to Kane. Austin is awesome, making the point to Kane that he is still in Undertaker's shadow. Kane finally agrees and the main event is set. God, Austin is the man.
  20. Hogan and Bischoff aren't happy. DDP and Malone are arriving while they are venting in the ring. They show up with tons of chairs and I guess it was supposed to be symbolic, but that they traveled so far and didn't even have the guts to use them on Hogan made them look like idiots. Hogan pushes Bischoff into Page then is cornered by himself. Do something to Hogan, you idiots! Why just stand there? This is a cool moment with tons of heat, but makes no sense. Waffle the guy! Fun seeing Hogan sell for Malone though. While this drew a big buyrate, as a traditionalist, I don't care for promoting the idea that anyone from any sport can just transition to wrestling and compete at the very top. Hogan has to switch gears and be a credible threat for Goldberg next week, so there's no consistency. Anyway, the Page-Malone promo closing this out is awful.
  21. Last few minutes. Undertaker looks to have hurt himself in the Cell as well. He accidentally clocks Austin with a chair and draws blood. Undertaker pours gasoline on the referee. Austin loses the title. Like Kane would have had a place to bleed in his getup. Foley bumped around for Austin some more even after the show went off the air. Long night for the guy.
  22. Everything that can be said about this one has been said. I was able to briefly convince myself that maybe this was a classic, I guess because I feel a little guilty not loving something that had so much personal sacrifice in it. But it's just not a good match. It's not. While the wrestling style still has many unnecessary risks, I'm so glad this never became the norm.
  23. Humperdink is a really good pick for the worst ever. I like that. I'm sticking with that.

Smackdown Spoilers were a big deal once upon a time.
  25. Last few minutes and yeah, this is pretty good. HHH does commentary at ringside and this is the match with the "I'm bi a lot of things ..." comment. Nice heat for this too. Fun to see a workrate Rock. Rock taps out to the anklelock to give Shamrock the KOTR win.
