  5. I loved him too! And yes, I am sure that will be a recurring theme.
  6. Obviously a Jim Cornette angle, as this was copied directly from early 80s Memphis when the same thing happened with Cornette giving a picture of himself to Dutch Mantell. I miss the early heel version of The Rock.
  7. I really like the video package on Hayes, and I also like how they are presenting this as Michael Hayes's return to Dallas. He doesn't get the pop you'd think, which really shows that most of the old Texas wrestling crowd had long since moved on and that Austin drew new fans more than he brought back old ones. Kane comes out and Hayes knows what's going to happen. He tries to take the fight to him, but eats a chokeslam and a tombstone. I remember when Kane was fresh. Barely.
  8. Austin says Chyna is lucky he didn't do more to her, and is laser-focused on Wrestlemania. He then takes Jim Ross's cowboy hat and celebrates.
  9. Cornette criticizes the fans for not supporting his NWA efforts. These have taken a ridiculous turn, as Cornette tells fans that they are going to tell fans what they are allowed to like and that real wrestling is better than sports entertainment. Tommy Young is returning as a referee. This is dumb.
  10. There are rumors that Marc Mero and Sable are about to break up. Mero assures everyone there are no problems and condescends to Sable while she is visibly annoyed. A bouquet of flowers arrives for Sable and all we know is that she has a secret admirer.
  11. Jim Ross tells us that Chyna is rumored to be threatening a lawsuit against Steve Austin for emotional distress. Ross has been stellar all year by the way. They end up showing a nice video package on Chyna to the DX theme. For whatever we want to say, they really did an incredible job getting her over. DX will be on RAW to clarify the rumors and explain why they are suing.
  12. The announcers are wasting way too much time trying to figure out if it is in fact Randy Savage that the NWO carried out unconscious. The Sting-Savage match is scheduled but doesn't look like it's going to happen. Hogan does an interview claiming that the match will not happen and finally gets around to hyping his match with Sting, the one that has barely been hyped so they could build the Hogan-Savage issue. Sting comes out and clears the ring to a disappointing reaction before the numbers catch up. An injured Lex Luger comes out to make the save (we liked Luger years before this, but he is being pushed way too high on the card at this point).
  13. I crack up at Lee Marshall laughing at Tony Schiavone for looking for logic in WCW storylines. Amen, Lee Marshall. This is another really fun squash. I'd argue that Goldberg is better than the Road Warriors were when they were booked far more effectively and became more enduring stars. This was my favorite one so far. Finlay did a great job feeding him stuff.
  14. If this doesn't say it all about 1998 WCW - let's cut away from Chris Jericho to focus more on the NWO! Hogan leads an attack on Savage and they drag him away.
  15. Al Snow is on the beach next to Head, both of their bodies presumably buried in the sand. While this is pretty pointless overall, I do think on-location vignettes and promos are sorely missing from current wrestling.
  16. I thought this was awesome - my #2 match at this point in 1998 behind only Tamura-Ilioukhine. This was really hard fought and was a great way to establish ARSION at something different from everything else at the time. They did a great job getting the cross armbreaker over as a killer move, not that the move wasn't already established in most of the Japanese feds. I thought they also did a nice job taking advantage of Candy's senior standing, but using that as a way to get over Fukawa - she's really competitive with her throughout this match, and as Zenjo mentioned, she's taking on a totally different style than she did in AJW and looks way better for it. Looking forward to seeing more of this company!
  17. Bret is already an afterthought. His entire storyline seems to be that he is indeed in WCW. That he is. Bret points out that Hogan is scared of him and it gets a lukewarm reaction at best when just three months earlier it would have been the single hottest match either company could have run. Crush shows up and goes by his real name of Brian Adams and his promo cuts like a knife. Gee, he's wearing a trenchcoat with a black t-shirt peeking out from underneath, I can't imagine what his intentions are. This leads to Hennig beating down Bret and Hogan coming down and getting his shots in. This segment is pretty irritating because they weren't even building to Bret-Hogan at this point. Ric Flair comes out to make the save and clears the ring and the Flair-Hart mutual respect tag team is something that could have been a big deal, but of course it wasn't. Flair is still way more over than he should be considering how he was being used.
  18. Last few minutes sees Martel lock on a Boston crab and win the TV title. I sure loved this comeback at the time, and Martel looks in great shape and ready to work.
