They have VOD/downloads on a lag after the DVDs/Blu-Rays, for reasons I can only assume have to someone's misguided understanding of how piracy works.

My ballot: I FOLLOWED THE HISTORICAL PERFORMERS ERA CANDIDATES Wild Bull Curry Sputnik Monroe Bearcat Wright I FOLLOWED THE MODERN PERFORMERS IN U.S/CANADA CANDIDATES Junkyard Dog I FOLLOWED WRESTLING IN JAPAN CANDIDATES [Abstain] I FOLLOWED WRESTLING IN MEXICO CANDIDATES Brazo de Oro & Brazo de Plata & El Brazo Cien Caras Karloff Lagarde Blue Panther Huracan Ramirez El Signo & El Texano & Negro Navarro I FOLLOWED WRESTLING IN AUSTRALIA/NEW ZEALAND/PACIFIC/AFRICA CANDIDATES [Abstain] I FOLLOWED WRESTLING IN EUROPE [Abstain] NON-WRESTLERS Dave Brown Jim Crockett Jr. Jim Crockett Sr. Jimmy Hart Jerry Jarrett --- I've long been a proponent of switching to yes/no/abstain but you know Dave won't go for it because of how set he is on keeping it close to the baseball HOF. But the categorization & 10 vote limit are very much a slog at this point, although less so if someone doesn't vote for lucha candidates.

Premier Podcast Brand #4 (2017 WON HOF Modern Candidates & More)
Bix replied to KrisZ's topic in Publications and Podcasts
That kind of (well, more than just kind of) misses the point about Monroe. Also, Danny McShain was inducted in the initial class of the HOF. -
The reason that is, because people who don't watch PWG don't watch it because they don't think it's good. This is an interesting factor to consider. For a long time, though not recently, PWG was considered the super indie promotion where guys went to slum it. Maybe that stuck to some fans who felt burned by them?

[1999-08-27-ECW-TNN] Kevin Nash Monster Truck Madness Commercial
Bix replied to Loss's topic in August 1999
The ad was notable for just how often (as in once per break) it aired on ECW on TNN. -
Wait, who's saying that?

The official Amazon "Send to Kindle" extension pretty much always works for me in Chrome.

My understanding is that if he was inclined to fight it, he'd be fine, but he has no desire to do so. Especially since it didn't keep him out of Canada for the intervening two decades.

Well, specific to Evolve, it's deeper than that: From WON coverage, Dave's social media and audio, etc, you'd barely know the promotion existed, which is weird if just because of the WWE deal (and Gabe now being a consultant in NXT). Once, someone on Twitter asked Dave why he doesn't review Evolve shows and he gave a "reading is your friend, I did in the new issue" reply when he didn't review the latest shows, he just gave the results. Online and in the WON, he gave the attendance for the last NYC show as 150-200ish, when literally everyone else said it was about 450-600, which is a big difference. "Dave Meltzer doesn't watch Evolve" is now enough of a thing that Ethan Page joked about it with ACH on their show on FloSlam. There are a bunch of Wrestling Twitter conspiracy theories about it and I don't really buy any of them, but I get why people find it weird and want an explanation. Doesn't help that Dave doesn't reply when asked if he watches Evolve, or about other Evolve-related stuff, on top of the perception that he's not covering various issues within ROH.

The storyline explanation was he "passed the test" to get into the Corporation.

Curious what's up with them redoing a significant amount of the voiceovers the week before SummerSlam. The sound quality was really bad on some of the commentary and I'm wondering if significant parts of the audio get messed up and they had to scramble to salvage it. There were some really weird moments, like there being very obviously canned heat for the post-match stuff after Jazzy vs Abby Laith even though the crowd was visibly going nuts. Wrestling wise they have a very clear pattern for this type of show which is fine, but it's a bit of a slog when they recruit someone who doesn't belong. But all of the main events were good, and it was almost shocking how fun to watch Jazzy is. JR was better than he was in Long Beach but he's always be way below par doing canned commentary and that hurts. He was still pretty bad here, and both the leering and ethnic comments were...unfortunate. Lita was more than fine on color, surprisingly.

That is really useful. Thanks. I was also looking at creative process tips I guess - like, what do people do to do their podcast? Tape all at once? Segment by segment? Notes? Scripts? Etc etc. Just what do people do when they do a podcast. Windows or Mac?

I think that stuff was definitely shot, the question is how much was saved long term. Since we have seen some cool stuff unearthed by WWE, plus a WE'RE OUTTA TIME match from '84 being included complete on one of those Wrestling Spectacular budget videos, I'm guessing WWE has a ton of that stuff. But a lot of it may not be properly indexed, at least not yet.

The Jim Ross Is A Grouchy Hateful Vile Human Being thread
Bix replied to Loss's topic in Megathread archive
Oh, that was just referring to the 2017 WWE stuff and was not meant to imply anything about his previous WWE runs. We'll see how he did overall at the Mae Young Classic but I thought he did an excellent job on Saturday at Takeover and a good job in his other appearances. Though I don't have the highest of expectations based on his interactions with female g guests on his podcast and the line where he called Piper Niven/Viper "a load........in a good way!" on the tournament Parade of Champions show. -
The Jim Ross Is A Grouchy Hateful Vile Human Being thread
Bix replied to Loss's topic in Megathread archive
Please clarify that statement. Because it sounds like you're trying to imply there is a set amount of time that the guy should be depressed over the death of his wife. And even you can't be that big of a douchebag...despite all evidence to the contrary. Definitely not saying that. Literally just meant "Everyone I talked to thought it was his apathy with the NJPW shows because he hasn't been sandbagging any other jobs." I can see how the "hopefully" was read weird, though; it was intended as "hopefully, for his sake, he'll be able to deal with this in a healthy way." -
The Jim Ross Is A Grouchy Hateful Vile Human Being thread
Bix replied to Loss's topic in Megathread archive
Truth hurt? No opinion on JR's more recent performances, but how "recent" is Bix thinking Long Beach is? Because there's no way to interpret that tweet as anything other than Ross was drunk at that show. (Also, I don't care about hypotheticals. Talk to me about what was actually going on, not stuff we're making up or coyly pretending to make up.) I thought it was obvious that the "hypothetically" part was me lightly trolling Sek. Everything there is based on what I have actually heard. And I'm not sure what this discussion about the word "recent" is about. -
The Jim Ross Is A Grouchy Hateful Vile Human Being thread
Bix replied to Loss's topic in Megathread archive
Are you taking issue with such an inference in a vacuum or as something that shouldn't be discussed a few months after his wife's sudden death? Was the discussion in the newsletters of Bobby Heenan calling Hog Wild '96 drunk inappropriate? Was Dylan talking about Ric Flair going to rehab after Reid's death, which, if anything, had less wrestling news value, inappropriate? Hypothetically, if the consensus greatest announcer in wrestling history did a New Japan show drunk during a lame duck period where he had also returned to WWE, and was NOT exhibiting such behavior in WWE, that's not a story? If anything, I've been considerably less harsh on this hypothetical story than I would like to be because of the Scott stuff coming to a head when it did. Hell, look at my tweets during the shows. I stopped joking that he was drunk (which was just me cranking jokes about what an off night he was having) as soon as it hit me that he might hypothetically be under the influence and not just doing a bad job. In this hypothetical, let's say that I talked to more people since then. Hypothetically, everything I've heard suggests this was sandbagging (maybe consciously, maybe not) more than anything else. He had turned down help from the NJPW crew. They were trying to make sure he would understand the psychology of their matches. It was especially glaring when he didn't get the towel spot in the night 1 main event when he had just voiced over the match it was playing off of days earlier. And as much as it got played off as him just doing a bad job in the Observer and places like that, that's not what actually happened. He was babbling like a drunk guy, especially in night 2 (like when he started rambling about Trish Stratus). Hypothetically, maybe some ringside fans, including one I've known for years, said they could tell it was alcohol. Hypothetically, multiple people working the event told me he was drunk. I hope he wasn't, but it seems like he was in this purely hypothetical scenario. That would, hypothetically, be shitty. And even if this hypothetical was the result of Jim getting into a funk about Jan that hopefully he would have been snapped out of since? It would irresponsible for AXS to do nothing, especially for night 2. But that's all if, hypothetically, I was implying what you think I was implying. -

The point of those tweets was that he was not drunk. You're not exactly reading them carefully. -

To be clear, I've had no intention of anyone getting the message that he is "a drunk" or was drunk at any of his recent WWE bookings or live show appearances. -

Between the Sheets #108 (August 9-15, 1994)
Bix replied to KrisZ's topic in Publications and Podcasts
It's up -
Joey Ryan is a nice guy and a competent wrestler who nobody should fault personally for any of this. I commend him for getting paid, with the porn sponsorship and whatnot. And I have zero issue with him doing the dick spot in DDT, where it fits. But it does, overall, feel like it's not exactly a great idea in the grand scheme of things. Trying to force the viral aspect when it DOES stick out like a sore thumb at a time when pro wrestling appears to have finally shaken most of its stigma...not crazy about it.
