  1. I'm with Tim, WWE has made the indie guys better workers. As talented as Danielson's always been, for much of his career he was a guy wrestling for himself and I think it was fair to question whether or not he'd excel at WWE style to the degree he has. We all knew he'd still be a great worker, but he was a guy who came off as doing ironic play fighting when he was a heel in ROH and that just wouldn't translate. Cesaro is absolutely better, I can't see the argument against that. Great worker for years, but nobody, including his biggest fans, was arguing he was top 5 in the world like they do now. Punk is clearly better as Tim outlined. In the previous generation, Eddy, Jericho, Rey, and RVD all got better in WWE, too.
  2. http://www.mcall.com/news/breaking/mc-jimm...0,4848348.story Well, this could be huge. Our last discussion of the case is here.

    Royal Rumble 2014

For what it's worth, Bryan Alvarez said on the live Figure 4 Daily call in show that people in WWE told him that they're sure people would have thrown trash at the ring if they were in the "right" city like Philadelphia. So it's a legit concern internally.

Noble was blamed for the timing issues. Doors didn't open until something like 20 minutes before the pre-show, maybe less. It's usually advertised as more like 45 minutes.

Fans booing Mysterio is nothing new. I'm guessing it's the "he just does the 619" type of online fans.
  7. I thought Dave was on the verge of being willfully ignorant by continuing to tow the WWE line even after the #2 show of the year just got roundly shit on by a city that can't be hand-waved away with the "it's a smark town" excuse. Dave hand-waved it as the Rumble crowd being heavy on travelers.

This is the type of little thing they just can't do. People will see them as wanting to have it both ways and get more angry.
  9. His promo during the montage before the match got booed live. Wasn't just him being #30.

  11. Getting an IPS Driver Error and I don't know why, so: http://pastebin.com/TkRYHBZT
  12. *Looks at his Raw recap* Yes, that was odd.
  13. Bryan trying and failing to get Dave to explain why "Best Box Office Draw" is an award people vote on was something else.
  14. No, Warrior was the guy they announce early to fuel ticket sales.
  15. Dick Slater feels like kind of an unfair pick because we don't have anything from his prime, though I'd rate him as "great" anyway based off stuff like the Mid-South feud with Butch Reed.
  16. Tremendous post. By now we all realize what his tastes are, and also things he tends to overrate, so you should know where your taste falls in or out of line with his. dave went through a period where every WWE PPV main event got a minimum of 4-stars. I knew I wasn't particularly into the WWE main event style during that time, so I understood the curve I was dealing with if he rated some forgettable Randy Orton vs Triple H b-show PPV match ****1/4. He digs that shit, I don't. It's no big deal. I know you were just throwing shit out there to make a point, but in the interests of nitpicking, I absolutely love the ****1/4 Orton/Hunter match. I actually get the same feeling though now about him reviewing New Japan. He's watching what he feels is a transcendentally great period of wrestling by that company and those guys, so every great match isn't just great, it's one of the greatest matches of all time. Same as during the time he'd rate every Kurt Angle TNA PPV match **** seemingly as a baseline. You just gotta roll with it. At the end of the day it's just a guy saying how much he liked a wrestling match. On the "Dave losing sleep" point above, I've always wanted to know if anyone has asked him how he feels now about rating Hogan/Andre -****. I think after getting harassed about it for so many years, he finally re-rated it at ** or something like that. Although I could be remembering the exact rating wrong, because I think he just tossed it out on an audio show or something from a mailbag question. The point is, he admitted the original was just silly, but he still doesn't love the match or anything. It was actually a few weeks later.
  17. On some level I'm more annoyed that it's being branded as an internal WWE leak by some people, especially since, as Matt said, we know the Vince letter was was already circulating in some places.
  18. Yup, he was in New Orleans for the shows.
  19. The first Dragon Gate in ROH WM weekend match. A fine example of that style, but it seemed like Dave was just impressed by seeing it for the first time in years. And as someone who was a fan of Toryumon before eventually souring on it, the Toryumon/DG style wears thin because the matches run together easily. I would get a month or two of TV and then stop watching for a better part of a year until the inevitable turns/resetting of stables freshened up the matches, then repeat the cycle, with maybe some exceptions for notable singles matches. Having said that, while I've never seen Richards-Elgin, I'm sure it's much worse.
  20. The original version of Wrestle-1 had some spectacularly bad ideas for pro wrestling matches. In addition to Mutoh & Goldberg vs Kronik: Bob Sapp vs Ernesto Hoost in the middle of their kickboxing rivalry in K-1: Or my personal favorite, Abdullah the Butcher vs Sata-yarn )Masaaki Satake): http://youtu.be/0NcXpiu_4Fk http://youtu.be/NLJOBz4GrIg The second Abby vs Satake match isn't on YouTube and is considerably worse, with Satake being confident enough in his bumping to take bumps for the whole match instead of at the finish. Unfortunately, he still waits a second to bump after getting hit. And then in Abby's post-match promo, he tries to sound creepy talking about transferring his hardcore legacy or something to "My son...Bob Sapp!"
  21. Also why was UFC able to do that B3G1 sale for the last 4 shows of the year on UFC.TV?
  22. Somewhat recently I heard this was supposed to be a comedy match to parody Inoki's "mixed martial arts" matches but I have no idea how true it is.
  23. Netflix removes content because deals to carry that content expire. This is all footage WWE owns the rights to. HBO keeps all of their series on HBO GO all the time... it's not like the Sopranos disappears some months. This won't keep me from subscribing... I'd have been subscribing to 24/7 for years if I'd ever had the option. But it's still a backtracking on the big talk they were doing about the library. Some stuff does fall off HBO Go from time to time. Those are movies, though. All of HBO's original series programming remains. They do hold back on some of the sports series, though. I don't remember which shows but I know at least one or two dropped off and reappeared.

  25. From what I read, it was the finish.
