  1. Sam Houston was always a good wrestler. I think he's one of the guys I've seen live most often. Houston truly is a good babyface. We get some back and forth early. A cheap shot sets up Ninja's heat. Crowd is really behind Sam, but Ninja is putting the boots to him. Of course we get a nerve hold here. We get some KOTM spots. Ninja is focusing on the neck/throat area. The work isn't high end, but makes sense.A nice gut wrench suplex by Ninja. Got to give it to the crowd, never wavering from their support of Sam. A quick comeback ends it for the Ninja.
  2. I thought the Ernie Ladd/ Tiger Conway Jr promos were fascinating. You have Tiger cut a babyface promo. With Ladd it's a total heel promo on Dusty. They're a tag team, but clearly has an agenda with Ladd. Neat to humanize a heel by introducing his son in the promo.
  3. Some early brawling. Colon taking it to Abby. Some biting by Colon. A monkey flip to Abby. The brawling seem pretty uninspired. Abby using head butts. This is pretty methodical.I enjoyed the punches by Abby from the knees. I like Abby working Colon's cut. JJ's bump gets a big reaction. Now it goes into the crowd. Just kind of just there. 1 3/4*

  10. Over at http://www.nwaondemand.com/ they've upoaded a Funk vs Lewin match that has only been seen by members. It's streaming free for the time being. I gave the match 4 3/4*. Check it out while you can.
  11. Bumped because they're showing this for free here. http://www.nwaondemand.com/
  12. http://www.nwaondemand.com/ is showing a free Terry Funk vs Mark Lewin match that I rated 4 3/4*. It's worked like an NWA title match.
  13. 86 was the year Watts was starting to begin to think Sting had potential. He held the tag belts, he wrestled Watts in a singles, worked a 15 minute match with Taylor, did a lot of 20 plus minute matches vs the Fantastics, and now he has 26 minutes with another young wrestler. Sting here is a lot like Batista. It took both guys time in the ring to develop. For Sting it was Eddie Gilbert, Watts, and Flair to believe in him. For Batista it HHH and Vince. Most importantly both guys were protected in tags surrounded by good workers, and given time to grow. 21 minutes sounds scary as hell here. Gilbert getting heat right off the bat. It's funny watchling this knowing 5 years from now someone paid Gaylord to attack Gilbert. We get some strength spots early. Hair pull by Sting gets heat. Gilbert is great engaging the crowd at ringside. We get another test of strength and Gaylord works the arm. Crowd is into it. This is basic stuff. Gaylord with a hammerlock. I did like the snapmare Sting did, but even better was Gaylord holding onto the hammerlock. Gilbert is the key working the ringside fans. A knee to Gaylord's stomach sets up Sting's heat. Which is a chin lock. Clothesline by Sting, followed up by an elbow to the throat, and back to the chin lock. Sting with a miss and Gaylord attacks with some ugly offense. Sting back in control. Him and Eddie misfire, but recover and cheat some more for the win. 1 1/2*.
  14. I love how Houston really does a great job of having connective tissue between matches. Taylor vs Buddy These guys have a history of good matches. Roberts eats a punch and immediately takes a powder. Some back and forth. Roberts ties Taylor in the ropes and is beating on him. A kick by Taylor causes some seperation. In a nice revenge spot Taylor does the same to Roberts. I thought he could have milked the revenge for a bit longer. As the ref unties Roberts, Taylor goes for a cross body. He misses Roberts and hits the rope. This sets up Robert's heat. He's taking his time, measuring his shots. Crowd tries to rally Taylor. Roberts goes to the top without causing enough damage. Taylor catches him, and makes a comeback. He has a decent one for a bit, Roberts cuts him off only for him to mess up. Then it breaks down and it's the Freebirds battling Taylor/Watts/ and Chavo. 2/12* A fight ensues and it's 3 on 3. It settles down into a match. Gordy bumping big early. Hayes and Taylor are at it. Gordy in to inflict some pain. Roberts is continuing the beatdown. Hayes is in and the crowd is rallying behind Taylor. He's been a solid FIP. Hayes eats a boot and we get a hot tag the ref doesn't see. So it breaks down into a free for all. Watts hits Taylor by mistake. Gordy and Hayes try to injure Watts, and they misfire. Match is thrown out as Watts is dropping people with brass knucks. A super heated affair. Gordy is all bloody post match. 3 1/2*
  15. I've always loved the Angel of Death name for a wrestler. Missing Link in 6 mans are a great way to use him. Hayes strutting his stuff to the boos. Link does his version of the moon walk and the crowd goes wild. Good schtick is timeless. Taylor working Hayes and is focused on the arm. A kick by PS brings in Roberts and he's after Robert's arm. Chavo in and he picks up working the arm of Roberts. Hayes in and Chavo back to the arm. Chavo looking pretty good here. Link biting Roberts. The faces had a pretty long shine their. It looks like Link is going FIP. He gets tossed outside and is roughed up a bit. Link is bleeding and they're working the cut. Robert's eats a big headbutt. Chavo gets the hot tag. Sunshine interferes, in a revenge spot Dark Journey does. It's breaking down at the finish. Heel steal a pin on Taylor. 2 3/4*
  16. A fight ensues and it's 3 on 3. It settles down into a match. Gordy bumping big early. Hayes and Taylor are at it. Gordy in to inflict some pain. Roberts is continuing the beatdown. 18. 6/3/17 NJPW Kushida vs Will Ospreay 4 3/4* I thought this was just incredible, and If Will's adrenaline didn't get the best of him down the stretch could have gone the full 5*. I enjoyed the feeling out process between the 2. Of course we get a version of a square off which is a Will trope, but here it works, and it isn't as show offy. I enjoyed Cyrus questioning why they are just letting each other hit each other. Kushida moves to the arm. Now the leg, and goes back and forth on each. Ospreay on a comeback, and he's shaking the leg. He hooks on an octopus. Kushida escapes and gets the arm. Kushida is just destroying it. Ospreay is selling it big, and makes the work mean so much more. A big dive by Will. You totally feel the pain that Will is in. Will hits a nasty reverse rana on the skirt. Ospreay is working the neck. Ospreay signals for the cutter, but can't raise the arm. What a nice touch. Now the build to the finish is incredible, only hurt by Will's adrenaline of getting caught up in the moment.

  20. I Loved Littlebrook panomining to the fat person. Littlebrook using his knee as a big weapon. Lang wrapping Littlebrook in the ropes was fun. Match feels more formula.
  21. A fight from the start. A pretty hot crowd. Settles down, then Gilbert and Fulton have a huge punch exchange. Then Sting and Fulton have one. Tommy Rogers is in and Sting eats a couple of big dropkicks. Gilbert and Rogers pair off and Rogers is working the arm. Tommy in and biting Gilbert's nose which he sells big. Sting and Eddie getting the heat. Loving how Gilbert places Sting in the ring to cheat behind the refs back. Hot tag and Tommy's running wild. It's out of control. Heels Dq'd. Postmatch we get a wild brawl. A really fun match. 3 1/4*

  23. I can buy that argument. I need to do some more thinking about it though.
  24. Sheepherders vs Fantastics Sheepherders attack before the bell. It's a brawl from Jump Street and it's a New Zealand Boot Camp Match. This is chaotic, full of danger and wildness.Loved when the Sheepherder went for a chair in the crowd and they wouldn't give it to them. Both Fantastics are bloody as hell. It seems to be Texas Tornado rules, no DQ. Fulton is bleeding . One Sheepherder is using a rope, while the other is using a wooden fork. It's been all Sheepherders. This is a total , A USA chant breaks, but the beatdown shuts the chant down. Fantastics starts a comeback with a policeman's night stick , but they're cut off. Fulton is a bloody mess. This is A Fulton showcase. He's the glue, to these brawls. He has that Memphis pedigree. Boy though the Fantastics gave a great comeback. Tons f revenge spots. They're showing tons of fire after having their asses handed to them. Super stiff brawl, and a great blow off to the feud. 4*
