[1985-12-31-Mid South-Oklahoma City, OK] Terry Taylor vs Rick Steiner
shoe replied to paul sosnowski's topic in December 1985
Taylor is targeting the arm. Watts really had a good eye for talent. Basic underneath match. -
I'm totally loving the early schtick. Gilbert is a great foil to the Bruise Bros. Gilbert bumping all over the place. Pork Chop Cash is outta control. What a character. Nightmare's turn and he has as much sucess as Gilbert. The heels try the same opening spot as the faces did with the exact opposite result. The trip Mad Dog Boyd and start to get heat on him. Boyd fires back to no avail. Heels stay on top of him. Noggin knocker sets up the hot tag. Gilbert interferance back fires. Super fun tag. Perfect way to be different with 3 strong main events on it. Honestly a perfect match for the show. 3*

[1987-12-25-AWA-St. Paul, MN] Curt Hennig vs Greg Gagne
shoe replied to paul sosnowski's topic in December 1987
Verne and the Ax are strapped to each other. We have 3 refs plus the 2nd's. This screams shenanigans. Gagne on fire early. Hennig bumping big. Gagne has Curt's number early on. Hennig working the leg. Hennig with a toe hold. Gagne with a nasty bump, and Hennig locks on the Indian Death Lock. Gagne reverses. Hennig with kicks and knees, and dead kneeing the leg. A big miss by Hennig. Gagne starts to work the arm. I'm digging Gagne's arm work. Hennig turns the tide and is after the leg. Double noggin knocker. Punch exchange and a huge knee lift by Gagne. Big miss drop kick by Gagne. The seconds have a moment over Greg Gagne. Gagne trying to shake it off on the outside. Gagne fires up. Gagne sleeper. The seconds fight. Curt gets DQ'd in a shit finish. 3* Ring fills up post match. Hopefully their building to a cage match, or a tag team match. -
Both guys I totally dig. Announcers are fat shaming Adonis. Pretty lackluster to start. Adonis has clamped on a lazy arm bar. Big chop by Wahoo has Adonis crumpled in the corner.Adonis using his girth on Wahoo. We get a ref bump. Adonis hits wahoo with the phone to get the heat. We get the 3 count, but refs waves it off because Wahoo had his foot on the rope. This was a bad match.

Rockers attack before the bell. The OMX bump and stooge for them. We get Michaels nail Condrey twice with punches. Condrey is great stooging during the opening shine. The stooge spots are really fun. Rockers are owning the OMX early on. Arm wringer and the OMX start on the arm. Michaels punches himself out of trouble and again we get some great stooge spots. Janetty using his speed and a headlock to control. We get some clipping during the Rockers shine. Michaels controlling with a headlock. Rockers just outspeeding them, and having great payoffs to the action. Dangerously causes a distraction and Condrey pulls the top rope down. Condrey puts Michaels head into a table. Now we finally get a heat segment. They start working Shawn's ribs. Michaels makes the hot tag. The action seems really great, but man their is a lot of fast forwarding with clippage to where it's too hard to rate. Its worth watching though.

We talk some WON HOF. The Elite Boys on their own. We talk MLW Fushion #35 We discuss NXT UK 17, and 18 We talk NXT proper We wrap up with SCI Trios.

Talking with Matt D this match really enhances their whole feud, and really is a lynchpin for everything that happens. This sets up Hennig as a title contender, and another reason he turns heel in 2 years. It's even more grand than the Steamboat vs Savage match from Toronto from 2/87 that enhaced that feud and wiped away the talking point that Mania 3 should have been a bloody fight.

[1984-12-25-AWA-St. Paul, MN] Rick Martel vs Jim Garvin
shoe replied to paul sosnowski's topic in December 1984
Big shine by Martel early. Martel with drop kicks, and starts to work the arm. Martel drops the knee twice on the shoulder. Martel grinding away on the shoulder and arm. Big arm drag. Hair pull by Garvin and now he's targeting Martel's arm. Martel gets seperation, hits a slam, followed up by a big arm drag. Martel back on the arm. Garvin takes a powder to the outside. G.arvin with a headbutt into the stomach, and gains control. Garvin drops Martel throat 1st on the top rope. Garvin with a side chinlock. Martel tries to power out, but he pulls the hair. Some back and forth and Garvin is back in control. Garvin throws Martel over the top. Garvin with some KOTM spots. Martel firing up on the outside. Matel is a house of fire. Martel Ground and Pounding Garvin. Backbreaker and sling shot splash gets Martel 2. Garvin scores a 3 and reverses the decision. 2 1/2* -
All 4 in the ring to start. Brody snapping off a stiff as hell boot to Blackwell's face. Fuck Brody is murdering Blackwell. Heels are in an out working over Blackwell. Gagne is great working the apron. Blackwell with a kick to Brody and we get the tag. Gagne's walking tall until Brody cuts him off. The heels begin to work over Gagne. Blackwell stops the piledriver. Flying cross body headbutt by Superstar. Hot tag to Blackwell. Big elbow by Blackwell. Blackwell crushes Brody in the corner. Big splash by Blackwell. Doubledrop kick by the faces. A total bullshit finish . Heels are laying out the faces. Brunzell out for a save. 2 1/2*

[1984-12-25-AWA-St. Paul, MN] Nick Bockwinkel vs Curt Hennig
shoe replied to paul sosnowski's topic in December 1984
This was the match I was most excited about. Boc is incredible, and plucky babyface Hennig is a ton of fun. This is the vet versuses the up and coming blue chipper. Fun mat sequence to start. Hennig puts over Boc's forearms beautifully and made them look like a jackhammer. Boc laying it in. Puts Hennig's head into the table. Another nasty forearm by Boc. Boc with a headbutt to the back of Hennig's head. Boc gets the crowd riled up. Hennig gets the leg and slams it on the apron. Hennig with a 2nd wind nails Boc with a drop kick. Hennig with some KOTM spots. Big suplex by Hennig gets 2!!!!! We get a head on collision between the 2. Boc positions him in the corner and rams the ribs. Big backdrop by Boc. Big kneelift and again. Boc working the midsection/ribs. Hennig reverses a piledriver. Bockwinkel sleeper, in the corner Boc peppers the midsection. Great hopespot by Hennig gets 2. Hennig fires back up. Boc with a Figure 4. Hennig's facials are great here. Rope break, and Boc attacks the leg. Another Figure 4!!! Again we get a rope break. Boc back to leg and Hennig catches Boc in a small package. This was great and another killer match in their series. Boc bloodies him up postmatch, and finishes him off with a piledriver. This wasn't the match I was expecting, but it ruled none the less. 4 1/4* -
[1984-12-25-AWA-St. Paul, MN] Jim Brunzell vs Mr Saito
shoe replied to paul sosnowski's topic in December 1984
On paper this intriques me. This is JIP about 7 minutes in.. Bruzell working the leg. Saito is incredible on the mat. He traps Jim in a Fujiwara. A boring chant is trying to gain momentum. This match is pretty bad. The crowd stirs once Bruzell posts Saito's leg. The best part of this match is watching Brunzell sell his leg. -
[1984-12-25-AWA-St. Paul, MN] Billy Robinson vs Steve O
shoe replied to paul sosnowski's topic in December 1984
Loving Robinson's agression early on. Peppering him with forearms and a big neck breaker. Robinson targeting the neck. Steve O gets the leg and posts it. Robinson takes a powder to stretch the leg. Robinson b ack breaker, but Robinson's leg won't hold. Steve O on the leg. Robinson tries for seperation, but Steveb O is still working the leg.Rope break gets a stand up. Robinson takes the best bumps off an elbow. This is so similar to their 83 match. Steve O back on the leg. Step over toe holds, along with kneedrops and grapevines. This is a good solid opener. They get over working holds. Their is good selling on display. Good looking strikes. Good opener. 2 1/2* -
[1983-12-25-AWA-St. Paul, MN] Nick Bockwinkel vs Mad Dog Vachon
shoe replied to paul sosnowski's topic in December 1983
This is complete. Mad Dog is one of the great characters in wrestling. Bock all over the neck early on. A cheek beel throw by Mad Dog. Mad Dog fish hooking Bock. Mad Dog walking tall. Mad Dod slams Bock's head on a table. Revenge spot on Boc's neck. Mad Dog is biting Bock's leg. Mad Dog working the leg. Mad Dog misses a shoulder block into the corner. Bock goes for a piledriver but its countered into a back body drop. Piledriver by the Mad Dog ref counts it like Mad Dog won it. It's a Dusty finish. Mad Dog and The Crusher destroy and I mean destroy Bock post match. This is Bock working with an over opponent who's very limited in what he can do. So Bock starts on top early than gets his ass kicked. Heenan's stuff with Crusher was good smoke and mirrors stuff. Bock worked a match to his opponents strengths. Boc might be the best ever at doing this. I'm sure the match we get with Hennig tomorrow will be worked totally different which is another thing Boc might be the best ever at. I liked this and thought it was as good as it could have been. 2 3/4* -
[1983-12-25-AWA-St. Paul, MN] Rick Martel vs Billy Graham
shoe replied to paul sosnowski's topic in December 1983
JIP and it's Kung-Fu Billy. Martel fighting underneath. Martel always has an energy to him. Billy puts him into the corner then a bear hug. Martel sells this huge. Grahm working the back with whips into the corner. A slam by Superstar. Martel sells it big making the heat segment. Martel returns the favor and puts Grahm into the corner. Big time Atomic drop by Martel. Amazing how good Martel was able to carry this to watcheable. -
[1983-12-25-AWA-St. Paul, MN] Jesse Ventura vs Steve Olsonowski
shoe replied to paul sosnowski's topic in December 1983
JIP with the body working a chin lock. Ventura taunting the crowd. Steve O trying to rally the crowd. Some hope spots for Steve O. Jessie plays KOTM for a bit. Steve O counters and gets his leg and wraps it around the post. Steve O taking to it to Jessie.A big miss by Steve O allows Jessie to drop a knee to his back. Jessie hooks on the shoulder back breaker for the submission. Skip it. -
[1983-12-25-AWA-St. Paul, MN] Billy Robinson vs Brad Rheingans
shoe replied to paul sosnowski's topic in December 1983
Of course this is JIP and we start with a nasty Robinson head butt into the shoulder. Billy starts to work the arm. Big elbow from Brad that causes Billy to eat a big bump to the outside. Shoulder block by Brad followed with a headlock.Robinson manipulates the arm to counter the headlock. A rope break gets a stand up. Robinson neck breaker lights up Brad. Head crank by Robinson. It gets transitioned into a front facelock. Fireman's carry by Brad gives Brad a flurry. Robinson takes a powder. Robinson with an abra kadabra pin attempt. Big forearm by Brad. Brad trys a neck breaker of his own gets 2. Atomic drop gets 2. Hip toss and 2 arm drags, then a big slam by Brad gets a 2. in a last second try Brad hits an awesome looking slam. The wrestlers are trading blows as time expires. I enjoyed this and thought it was a lot of fun. -
I classified this as one of the best tag matches of 83 in the territories. Baby faces establishing their shine early on. Big million dollar knee to Reed has the crowd going 2!2!2!2!.TA back in controllling with a headlock. Love TA's running with the headlock spot. Reed finally gets out to the Anvil. Reed is in for more punishment. TA misses and goes to the outside. We see some KOTM spots from the heels. 2 wants in, but just causes more trouble for TA. Now they use the cage and bust open TA. 2 again trys to get involved and it costs TA. Finally 2 gets the hot tag and the crowd goes bonkers. Reed bumping big . Eventually Anvil trips him up and the heels get another heat segment. This time 2 is FIP. The heels use their size and really put their weight on him. Anvil begins tugging on 2's mask he finally gets it off and he has ANOTHER MASK . This stuns Anvil, 2 tags TA who hits a Belly to Belly and we have new champions. 4*

[1983-12-25-Mid South] Jim Duggan vs Krusher Darsow
shoe replied to paul sosnowski's topic in December 1983
Darsow is out with the Russian Flag. They immediately go toe to toe with Darsow taking a powder. Don't kid yourself this should be a straight up hoss fight. Early on Duggan has an answer for all of Darsow's offense. A low blow by Darsow sets up his heat. We get a bear hug that Duggan tries fighting. Duggan fights out only to get stopped in his tracks. Back to the bear hug. This time Duggan bites his way out of it. Some fighting ensues. So far this has been pretty ho hum aided by a crowd caring. Fuck me a 3rd bear hug. Duggan is bleeding. Both men are struggling to get to their feet. Volkoff is out and we have a 2 on 1 for a bit. Duggan is counted out. -
This is JIP with Hulk working Duncum's arm. Tito in and works the arm. Quick tag to Hogan who continues the work on the arm. Tito back in on the arm. Hogan back in on the arm. Patera pin balls for the faces. Patera's sell of Tito's on the atomic drop was aces. Punch to Tito's throat sets up the heels heat. Crowd behing Tito big time. The heels use rough house tactics. Eventually we get the faces walking tall. A big smozz A fun match. 3 1/4*

[1981-12-25-AWA-St. Paul, MN] Nick Bockwinkel vs Billy Robinson
shoe replied to Loss's topic in December 1981
This is JIP. Robinson using the headlock to control Bock. Love Robinson using the bridging headlock. Robinson's forearms are nasty. The dueling headlock spot was neat. Love how Robinson got to the leg. Robinson constantly goes back to the headlock. He really uses it as a weapon. Bock escapes and he's targeting the shoulder. Boc with some KOTM spots. Some chain wrestling from both men. Robinson counters into a reverse surfboard. Dirty break by Boc. Robinson with a flurry. Robinson back breaker gets 2. A double pin, but the ref says Bock won. 2 3/4 *- 1 reply

This is JIP and we see Martel working Heenan's leg. Heenan got something in Maetel's eyes. Both guys selling. Heenan the leg, Martel as if he's blind. Judo throw by Martel, and his vision is still shaky, but he can still work Heenan's leg. Again Heenan blinds Martel.A great near fall on a cross body by Martel. Great timing on a missed spear spot to the floor. Martel wins. We get about 8 minutes of a 14 minute match.
-
This is JIP at the 5 minute mark. Steve O is on the arm. Eye rake by Patera sets up the heat. Patera just beating down Steve O until he reverses an Irish whip. On the outside he uses the ring post on Patera's arm. Patera is selling the arm. Patera suckers him in. Bear hug by Patera. Steve O showing fire. Steve O with a back breaker, neck breaker, big elbow. Patera counters a neck breaker for the 3 count. We get about 11 minutes of a 16 minute bout.

This is JIP. Goulet is in control using rough house tactics. This is a very boring heat segment. The crowd is solid even with the pedestrian work. We finally get a Baron comeback, but gets cut off only for the Baron to catch him with a small package. We get about 12 minutes of a 13 minute match.
-
We are JIP and we get about 13 minutes of a 17 minute match with Gagne working the arm. Adnan tries to interfere, but Brunzell teaches him a lesson. Some quick tags from the faces. They are doing some arm work some basic, some high impact. The shine is really well done with a real sense of purpose. Eventually though Gagne would become FIP because Adnan scratched the back. The heels would focus on the back. Blackwell using his weight and and Adnan using more focused attack. Eventually Gagne tags out to Brunzell and he's running wild. The heels are bumping and feeding for Brunzell. Gagne back in and they hit a huge knee drop from the top. The HF are running wild and look to be on the verge of winning when the heels screw them over. I really liked the story here. It had a main event feel to it. Good work all around 4*
