  1. This is up on the network. I've never seen the match, but it looks like they get 20 minutes so it could be interesting. Steamer and Slater have an interview earlier in the show. The Long Riders are Ron Bass and Black Bart with JJ Dillon is their manager. Steamboat and Slater have a history. Both guys also have a history with the Long Riders. Long bRiders beat up Steamers brother, and made a mess of his gym. JJ cost Slater the MA Title, and Bart also try to collect a bounty on Slater. Big fight to start. Long Riders take a powder. Faces standing tall. Some nice double team moves by the faces. Heels bumping for Steamboat. Faces controling early. The Long Riders get some heat on Slater. Big tag to Steamboat. We get a commercial, and an Assassin #1 interview. Back to the match and Steamboat is in control. Steamboat and Slater keeping the Long Riders off balanced with quick tags. Steamer with an adominal stretch that is countered by Bass. Bart drops Steamboat throat 1st on the top rope. The Long Riders getting the heat on Steamer. Hot tag to Slater. He's running wild till they post him. Slater escapes and tags out to Steamboat. Steamboat gets a flurry and he's cut off. Tully enters dressed as a Long Rider is out. Steamer catches Bart with a cradle for 3. Great post match where they tie up and choke out Slater. Tully and the Long Riders fuck up Steamboat''s back. A really great angle to end the show. 3*

  3. This is for the Mid-Atlantic title. Steamboat keeping Bass off with arm drags . Bass bumps his shoulder into the corner and Steamboat is on the arm. Steamer dropping a knee to the shoulder. Shoulder block to the arm. Arm drags and a head scissor. Steamer has great baby face psychology. Great cross body gets 2 and then snaps off another arm drag. Thet tease the heat, but Steamer remains in control and keeps on the arm and shoulder. We cut to some interviews with Buzz Tyler and Manny Fernandez. We're back and Bass is getting the heat. Steamboat makes a comeback . Black Bart and JJ come out to interfere. Dusty and Slater come out to save. In the skirmish JJ is pantsed and is revealed to have garter belts on. This was a lot of fun. We miss how Bass got the heat. So essentially a lot of fun.

  5. Road Warriors are a mythical team. One of the great gimmicks of all time. Still always weird seeing them as heels. Larry and Animal have that battle of bad apples going. Larry can go one on one with the Roadies. The time I met Larry he scared the shit out of me. Curt in . This is real cookie cutter stuff. Finally we get a big time power slam by Animal. Curt as FIP. A lot of restholds here. Ax attack is in. Hennigs end up DQ'd. This was pretty rough.
  6. I really hope we get this whole card that is topped off by a classic Flair-Windham match. Brad and Tully look great working with one another early on. Love the dragging headlock spot. Pops me everytime. Tully shining up both Armstrongs. Tully is a master of teasing a tag only to fail. Armstrongs do the fake tag behind the refs back. A real southern staple. JJ giving Luger help only for the ref to catch it. All the small touches are brillant. Tully finally tags in Luger. We got a really long ahine, but Tully is great in the role. Match slows up and it's about the Armstrong's shining up Luger which made the Armstrong's look even better when they out smarted Luger. Luger gains control only for Tully to come back in. Top rope drop kick by Brad. Luger distracts the ref for a JJ Dillon interferance spot. Tully working the back. Luger in and he continues the assault on the back. Great backslide by Brad for a hopespot. JJ was so great with his timing on interferance spots, and was great here. A really good match that took chances with the formula 3 3/4*

  9. Ric Flair defends the NWA World Heavyweight Title This is great with Ole and the nutty fans. Love Ole doing the double take introducing Gary Juster. We are JIP maybe a minute or 2 in with Jack working the headlock. The picture on this is incredible. Jack cranking that neck with his knee in their for good measure. Flair constantly working for escapes. Flair teases the leg to get a break. Neither man backing down. Everytime Flair looks to get an advantage Jack cuts him off.Jack has his sprawling down. Brisco starts to soften up the arm. Jack's short arm scissor is a sight to behold. Jack is working all over the place to soften up Flair. We've seen the neck and now the arm.Love the rolling key lock. Flair takes a powder. A cheap shot by Flair finally gives him an advantage. Flair starts taking it to Jack. Jack counters Flair's suplex into a sleeper. Ropes by Flair. Sleeper again gets countered by a back suplex by Flair. Jack hits one of his own and Brisco goes for a Fig 4, but no. Crowd all over Flair. Jack hooks on the Figure 4 will his last ride be triumphant no Flair makes the ropes. Flair hits an atomic knee smasher into the Figure 4. Jack makes the ropes. Brisco with the press slam. Flair hits an Oklahoma side roll to end Jack's last ride. I loved how Jack controlled it early on with a big shine. Jack was the total babyface here. Flair and Jack had you believing that Jack had Flair's number here. Everytime it looked like Flair was going to get on top, Brisco had an answer. I'd say Jack was on top for 70% of the time, but that played into the story. Even the flash pin was part of the story. 4*
  10. I really enjoy the early mind games between the wrestlers. I enjoyed them working the crowd. This is really great table dressing for the match. Almost has a Memphis vibe to it. Nice back and forth early, but Vader is walking tall till a Simmons clothesline. Simmons using his strength to keep Vader off balance. Simmons gets slammed on the floor. Vader is selling the back, while Harley is on the stick going no pain.Simmons working the neck and back. Headbutt by Simmons. Simmons with some forearms to the back. Vader counters with a boot to the face and Simmons takes a weird bump. Vader using his size, but the back still hurts. Vader's selling is really good here. I've also liked the choices they've made. Match down the stretch has become big time power moves. Near falls are believable. Good stuff, and thought the match progressed nicely. 3*

    WWE Hidden Gems

I think that is the very 1st singles match between Valentine vs Piper that would turn into a legendary feud.
  12. This is 2 out of 3 falls. This is non title. The opening Thesz press was really nice. David controls with a headlock at 1st, and then uses the arm bar to keep Race at bay. Nice gut wrench by David. Race starts to work over the the midsection with a few well placed knees. David regains control. I like David standing on Race's face. David again using the arm to control Race. Race with some nasty looking knee drops, then David counters again. David has answers to all of Race's stuff. Big corner bump by Race to the outside. A nice small package gets 2 by David. A lot of control changes. A lot of repetetivness here. Race working a safe match with a young wrestler. Nothing too compelling. The whole match was telegraphed as a draw. In the era where wins and losses mattered. Going to a draw with the champ positions David as a star so the match served it's purpose.
  13. This is from the network and part of their hidden gems. This is a hot feud in the Carolinas. Valentine is hated, and Piper is loved. This is non title. The opening strike exchange was boss, and has the crowd buzzing. Valentine rocking Piper with forearms. Piper right back at him. Hate filled fight with strong story telling. The ear punching is glorious. Piper fights back. He's measuring Valentine and picking his shots. Valentine is busted open. Piper choking Valentine with rope. Match is thrown out. What a hate filled match. The finish is out of control. 4 1/4*
  14. I've shared my thoughts on Martel. Buddy I have tied with Bockwinkle as the most versatile worker in the sense their matches varied. Love Buddy' s powder to the outside. Buddy working the leg. Loving Buddy's hand gestures. All of Buddy's manurisms are big. Buddy working the leg to slow Martel down. Absolutely loved the tease of clubberin Martel, and then he does. Crowd are hot for Martel's comebacks, only for Buddy to cut him down. Both guys are great at teasing the nearfalls and hopespots. Everything they've done has been very engaging. Martel's selling has been so great that you feel his pain. Popped for Martel going for the atomic drop but reinjures his bad leg. Loved how all the leg work payed off for the submission. It's also refreshing to see a babyface submit. Rose is after that leg and Martel is getting small and sideways to make it difficult. Eventually he gets it and it's torture time. What a great moment where Martel slams Rose head into the post. Martel targeting the back and posts it. Even on offense Martel still selling the leg. Martel dropping big elbows to the back. Ax handles to the back. Martel ties it up with the Boston Crab. It's all up for grabs and Martel is focused on Buddy's back. I'm loving the story that they're telling. Martel after the mask. The ultimate insult is for fans to see him bald. Martel gets the mask off only for Buddy to escape without the fans seeing him bald. 4 1/2*
  15. Harley Race is a guy who has had a lot of highs with me and other times had me scratching my head. The Houston footage made me a more pro Harley guy. Martel has been tremendous in all the territories he's popped up in. One of the all time great baby face workers. I love the fact that 2 of the all time most honorable promoters in Boesch and Owens were proponents of the 2 out of 3 fall set up. They give us a big tease to start. Race's corner bump is a thing of beauty. Martel has all of the answers to Race in the 1st fall. Martel focusing on the arm. He isn't just sitting there. He's working the arm. L---iking Martel selling the back already. So good at the little things. Martel keeping Race off balance with those deep arm drags. I'm a mark for targeting a body part and Martel is aces on the arm. Race as toiring champ is making people believe this could be Martel's night. The arm work got a little long in the tooth. Race catches Martel in the throat with the top rope. A Piledriver later and Martel kicks out. A suplex!!!! Martel kicks out. Harley Race headbutt, and Martel kicks out. Finally, a suplex finishes him off. Loved the way the 1st fall was worked and structured. 2nd fall and both guys are battling. Martel shifts his attack to Race's back. Martel using standing Ax handles. A very cool move that always stands out. Back breaker by Martel. Martel's sleeper is the equalizer. I love how they have to wake him up, and some fans have no idea what is all about. Just a difference in time periods. 3rd fall and Martel gets the sleeper on. They're fighting on the floor. Big outside in slam by Martel. Sleeper again. Time limit draw. A fun match with people believing Martel should be World Champion. So Harley did his job as touring NWA Champ. 3 1/2*
  16. Difficulties in booking the champ, and how difficult was it to come up with finishes the NWA or AWA champ were okay with.

  22. Steve Stack is doing commentary so my feeling Southwest. He references Championship Wrestling a few times. I want to say 1978.
  23. We have Larry Matysik on commentary so this must have been used for St. Louis I guess. We have Larry Hennig. as special ref. Andre using his size to have a advantage. So far it's been all Andre. Andre no sells Bock's offense. Boc runs right into Andre's ass that gets a great reaction. Boc hooks on a sleeper, but Andre escapes. Boc hits a splash, and back to the sleeper. The sleeper lasts a good bit. Andre makes a comeback and Boc is eating all of his offense. Andre takes a shoulder to the post. Boc is beating on him. Heenan gets involved and we get the DQ. Patera and Duncum are beating up on the Ax. Andre returns for the save. I liked the Andre/Race from Houston much better . Psychology wise the match works, but it dragged in spots. 2 1/4*
