Ask him about his brief time in the AWA in the spring/summer of 1984. He began a feud with the Hennigs that seemed to just stop after his match in St. Paul with Curt in September. There was Larry run-in and scuffle at the end of the Curt match that appeared to point towards a match or feud between them all coming for the fall. Did he leave on his own accord, or did the planned matches fall apart for some other reason? Was there even a series planned or was it just a weird nostalgia bit in an otherwise quiet AWA summer? Maybe Heenan's departure had something to do with it, you could ask that as well. Was he ever considered to get the spot that Bockwinkel eventually got as AWA champ in 1975? He was between title runs in the NWA at that point if memory serves.

Well played. But seriously, I'd say he'd get the opening graphic, a ten bell salute and then the show would go on as normal. I'd say he would get a little more than that because he has been a WWE regular for some time now, but I don't hink he would get the full show. There would probably be a baby-punt somewhere on the show as a tribute of sorts, to which 90% of the interwebs would have a conniption fit.

It's hard to imagine a time that revealing that the top star was related to the promoter would result in killing the business....and that time was only 20 years ago. That, and I guess the Kirk death in the ring must have been looked at as a huge deal when it happened over there.

IIRC the Race HOF aired previously, but this time in the matches section the have Race as NWA champ vs. klondike Bill from 1973 Stampede TV. I don't recall this airing last time...am I wrong (on both counts?)

Music pre-sales are often similar. All the top seats seem to go to ticket brokers who resell them at 2-10x face value. You have to be pretty lucky to get decent seats at a pre-sale. I scored 9th row seats for Rush last september at their presale, and I did the best of everyone on the website that tried. other 9th row seats were available at the brokers for about 5 times the amount afterwards. Point made behind that statement by me is that, while fans rightfully get royally pissed off at this, eventually they will buy the tickets at inflated prices and go anyways. I suspect that UFC fans just now experiencing this will become climatized to it soon enough and just pay it.

FWIW I did make an Original Midnight Express in the AWA comp several years ago. they were decent enough but had very little in the way of decent opponents during their run there.

re: The CMPunk reign...how long will it have to go to be considered a "success" by Punk lovers (and, I guess, wrestling fans in general)? I don't know what a "long" title reign constitutes these days, to be honest. If he makes threee months is he a successful, long-term champ?

I've never seen this match, the AWA shows running on ESPN Classic picked up with Hennig and Hall already as champs. Was this any good? If it's the Winnipeg match, it's decent. Non-title affair. If not, I think they had a bout in Atlantic City. Not bad, might have also been non-title..can't remember off hand.

They did include the Bock draw. Good for them.
