  1. So far I don't mind face Trish too much. She hasn't terribly lost her edge, unlike other great heels who've turned face. Unfortunately, this is one of those cases where she was getting face pops anyway as a heel (see WrestleMania 21) and Vince felt the need to turn her again anyway.
  2. Wasn't even aware that Austin-Show was going to be the main event of the following year's Mania... Thanks for that info. I remember when they did a RAW in February of '99 in Toronto at SkyDome (last show at SkyDome before WMX8) and it was billed as the "Biggest RAW ever". I need to check, though, because I don't even think Wight was with the company then (it was early February, IIRC). Then again, Russo had a nasty habit of trying to make every night "the biggest night ever".
  3. True, Sek, but you can say that about many of the releases they've had the last 4 years. Just to name some matches, while looking at my collection, here are some matches on some DVDs that are arguably head-scratchers (for whatever reason) as far as DVD additions go (I'm ignoring first-ever matches, first-ever MSG matches, or anything of that sort): - Bloodbath (Steel Cage): Backlund vs. Hansen, Sammartino vs. Koloff (Neither are that famous, Sammartino-Koloff is very unwatchable) - Guerrero: Survivor Series 2002 3-way tag (I think Guerrero himself said the match wasn't that good) - Hall Of Fame 2004: JYD vs. Race at WMIII (There are probably better choices in either guys' career) - Benoit: Sabu N2R 1994 (Highlight of Sabu breaking his neck is already in the main program. The showing of the whole match served no real purpose.) - Hogan: vs. Perfect, SNME (The match was okay, but it wasn't even their most notable encounter), and 1-on-2 heel Hogan squash - Foley: vs. Sandman (On the bright side, Foley's comments on the match being on the set are funny) - Mysterio: vs. Noble in November 2002 Smackdown (Mysterio squash) - Road Warriors: The many squashes in their early careers and the match vs. the Godwinns (last WWE titles win, but a dull match) - RVD: vs. Jericho KOTR2002 (I liked the entry, but many argued that the Unforgiven 01 match should've been on) - Rock (Just Bring It): vs. Booker & Shane at Unforgiven 01 (the SummerSlam match was better) and vs. Shane on Raw - Warrior: vs. Rude (SS90) (Their SS89 match was better) - Austin (Stone Cold Truth): w/Pillman vs. Flair/Anderson (Clash XXIII) (There's likely a better Blonds match out there) Point is to not knock the above releases, but the odd match on a DVD that's an unremarkable choice is not a problem limited to just Bret's set.
  4. Can't argue with too much of that. Wight received the same treatment a lot of the Benoits and Jerichos received upon entry into the Federation. Didn't Big Show lose fairly early in the company, cleanly, to Steve Austin? Granted, Austin was on a serious roll at the time, but jobbing Wight to him right away did nothing for Wight and didn't allow him to be built and established in the WWF. It's right up there with Benoit losing to HHH in his first match in the company. Both Benoit and Show were established as second-tier, in their respective cases.
  5. Yep. 10-Man tag was Bret, Owen, Neidhart, Bulldog & Pillman vs. Road Warriors, Austin, Goldust & Shamrock. Both Bulldog matches were good, in my opinion, even if one was dominated by Bret's work.
  6. "Two most memorable matches" is very, very debatable. Owen Hart WM X, British Bulldog SummerSlam 91, Shawn Michaels WMXII, and Steve Austin WM13 all say hello. Anyways, Bret reportedly had creative control over the project and, assuming he did, I can see why he narrowed the matches to either singles or tag battles. There aren't many Hart Foundation matches that stand out like a sore thumb, but it's no secret that Bret looks back on those days as a great time of his career and a better time in general for tag teams (who can argue with him on that last part?). Canadian Stampede is very memorable, but again, I think Bret wanted to narrow it down to singles and tag matches to display his ability to work those to a tee and leave his fans remembering that. Canadian Stampede may very well be the best 5-on-5 battle the WWE produced, but really, who can't work a five-on-five match? The biggest strength of those types of matches is its ability to hide everyone's weaknesses. As for the Survivor Series 97 match, again, Bret had creative control, so it goes without saying that the actual match won't be on there. I'm just happy that the Iron Man match against Michaels isn't on there to eat up a large amount of time that can be used for three matches instead. It also wouldn't surprise if Vince talked Bret out of putting that match on there for other options, since it's no secret Bret loves the match as much as Shawn does, and it was reported by Meltzer that it, along with Austin WM13, Owen WMX, Bulldog SS92 and Hennig SS91 were all almost shoe-ins to be on the set.
  7. From Silvervision Seeing as Silvervision is usually pretty accurate, this seems like a pretty good list, even if some matches that should've been in (Hello, Canadian Stampede main event!) were left out. I have no complaints, though. He traveled the globe for the better part of two decades, winning the coveted WWE Championship as well as millions of fans. Born into wrestling royalty and fulfilling his destiny with the straight-laced attitude and finely tuned technical ability. Fans identified with his no-nonsense style and many of his peers call him one of the technical wrestlers of all time. A worldwide Superstar, he achieved the ultimate goal in sports-entertainment and suffered unimaginable personal tragedies. The is the Bret Hart story. Hear from Bret Hart himself as he takes you through his early years with Stampede Wrestling, the Hart Foundation, his reign as WWE Champion, internal family feuds, Survivor Series 1997, WCW, the death of his brother, Owen Hart, and much more. 8. Agreed, but damn, from the little I saw of the angle, Eddy was certainly trying to make something out of nothing.

  10. It was Piper. Piper was on the Brother Love Show, Heenan distracted him from one side, causing Rude to sneak up on him and splash mouthwash into his eyes, then a Rude Awakening of course. I believe it was after Piper cost Rude the Intercontinental title against the Warrior at SummerSlam '89. I actually have an old WWF Magazine with a Piper interview, hyping Survivor Series versus Rude's team, and some of the barbs Piper throws at Rude and Heenan are classic. Too bad the copy I have is at my parents' place; otherwise I'd waste no time sharing them with everyone.
  11. Yep, and she may not have been legal either. (Steph was born on September 20, 1976, and Savage was definitely gone from the WWF by September of 1994.)
  12. It was towards the tail end of it. I think the listed match vs. Rude happened just after it, just before Roberts' feud with Andre. Rude wasn't naked, btw. He had a g-string on.
  13. I have to vote for Flair here for the longevity. Other ones I'd add to this poll for the reasons Loss said are Sgt. Slaughter, Junkyard Dog, Jerry Lawler, Jimmy Snuka, and Mick Foley.

  15. I don't remember that, but now, I wish I do, or I wish I had seen it if I hadn't. What's sad is that most fans probably and unfortunately remember the "peak" of Bret's comedy being the "Pittsburgh enema" comment.
  16. Agreed, except for the last part, which I'm unsure about. I could see them using this as the main event program, overshadowing whatever John Cena's doing. It's not like Flair hasn't worked any PPV main events during his current run (versus Orton last year at Taboo Tuesday).
  17. That sounds pretty funny. Shame I dont remember this. I miss El Dandy. I know this is late, but I remember that! A friend of mine and I couldn't stop laughing at that interview. A nice way for Bret to show his lighter side.

  19. I looked a bit closer at the cover of the set, and I think it says "2-disc set". They'll easily fill the two discs with the content they have listed.
  20. I think it'd be more Jake saying how he had a great career, fucked things up, and has no one to blame but himself, thanks to the WWE for all the opportunities, blah, blah, blah, rather than everyone burying the guy, like in the Warrior DVD. In other words, the story may not be positive, but compared to the alternative, it looks far better.
  21. I have a hunch that the main program will be pretty long since Roberts had a long career. 2 hours, maybe even 3, but that may be stretching it. I think the matches after that will stretch over to three discs alone, then you have the promos. Or, they may pull an Ultimate Warrior DVD and throw in a "bonus" disk...

  23. Cripes, what next?! Is Spanky going to return as Kerwin White's greens crew buddy?! While we're at it, let's bring back a guy like Bull Buchanan! He can be the big badass Head Marshall, to round out Chavo's stable based entirely on golf gimmicks! (Okay, I'll stop now!)
  24. Saw this match on the Undertaker DVD and it's everything Loss says it is. I need to re-watch it, because I didn't notice the selling during the zombie sit-ups and I'll need to keep my eye out for that next go-around. I definitely liked the chest work Undertaker did, and, of course, Bret's incredibly great with the legwork. Loss' rating is about right.
  25. Commercial breaks are not my favourite thing too, but, while this has been said before, that match did a good job of timing them correctly, so that, for example, if Eddy tossed Rey out of the ring, and they went to commercial, Rey wouldn't be on offense when they returned, which would mean we'd be clueless how that went. I understand what you mean, which is why at times I don't like rating TV matches. When I say it hovered around ****, that means what I saw was a **** match. I do feel, though, that I need to see the full match to get an idea of what happened and if things made sense. Did the offense during the commercial break make sense with respect to the story of the match? Was the flow different? How was the crowd, in comparison to the rest of the match? Things like that.
