Well yes, VKM wasn't the first guy to make something out of nothing (or not much) as a promoter, but Superstar is definitely the mold for the body type he's been looking for ever since.
-
I think since Vince Jr has shown he can make big stars out of people with an abundance of charisma and not much else, it's not a stretch to extrapolate that Superstar would have been the same way. I mean, he's pretty much the prototype of what VKM looks for in a Sports Entertainer.

I think most people who watched it were just happy to see him in the ring again after facing cancer and were willing to overlook his actual performance in light of him actually still being alive. I don't think his subsequent matches were any better/worse than his return, it's just now people are starting to look at them more critically than "wow it's great to just see him".

"Macho Madness: The Randy Savage Ultimate Collection"

"Hey there Steph, you wanna snap into my Slim Jim tonight?" -
I don't know if he could have been Hogan since that was a once-in-a-lifetime thing, but a face Superstar could have done big business had Vince Sr believed in babyfaces that weren't bland and/or ethnic stereotypes.

It's amazing to see Vince have his random meltdowns over the internet, it really shows how he can't stand that there's a thing that exists that talks about wrestling and he can't directly control it. Also amazing how each time Vince issues one of his "TALK TO THE SHEETS AND YOU'RE FIRED" promos, there's detailed descriptions of his meltdown in the next Observer. It's like Meltz is the Princess Leia to Darth Vince, the tighter his grip the more star systems slip through his fingers.

"Macho Madness: The Randy Savage Ultimate Collection"

I wouldn't be surprised if that was the real reason, that Vince knows all the stories are bullshit but also everyone in the company seems to believe its true so working with Savage would make Vince look like a horrible person. -

I would take anything said by someone raised by the undisputed all time world champion of bullshitting with just a little grain of salt. Also speaking of rumors involving Savage, wasn't the alleged reason Hulk was sporting a shiner at WM 9 that Savage popped him in the eye because he thought he was trying to fuck or had been fucking Liz? -
I guess "this card is going to bomb" is the new internet meme, everyone seems to be saying it but no one can explain why. Personally the only matches that look disappointing are the Jericho match and the JBL/Rey match, and the latter only because they couldn't have made it more of an obvious "lets get this guy on the card" match for Rey. I read someone's fantasy booking for the Jericho match where he takes out the legends leading up to WM, leaving Lawler to defend their honor, and that's really the only way this could be saved as the 3 guys they have in it now are too old/injured to do anything of note. I guess Steamboat could possibly have a possible match but I'd hate to see him shatter his spine in a meaningless match and be this era's Paul Orndorff.

"He's ambitiously stupid" - Why Scott Keith's new book is scary bad
sek69 replied to Bix's topic in Megathread archive
Yeah really. It's one thing to redo a review to reflect your own changing opinions, but more often than not his are done to reflect the changing conventional smark wisdom of the day. Heaven forbid anyone ever look back and see he once thought Taker was done for 8 years ago or that he liked HHH. We can't have that now. -

Since Scoots reposts all his past WM rants this time of year, I found some more classic views on women wrestling in the WM X-8 rant: Now I've thought it was kind of lame how the women always throw forearms instead of punches but I never thought the solution should be for them to be shoot punching each other in the face. Also he's hinting at a WM X-7 (god I'm glad they stopped labeling them X-whatever) rerant, so someone should find the original and see what embarrassing viewpoints he's trying to erase. -

Vince also has an inner circle of trusted people who handle a lot of the business deals you mentioned. Also I don't think anyone's comparing Vince to a mental patient, but he does have a track record of irrational decisions and thoughts over the years. It's not a logical leap to suggest that once Vince is convinced of something, no matter how unlikely or far-fetched, nothing will dissuade him. Hell, WCW has been dead for 8 years and he still won't let go of his hatred of Ted Turner for daring to compete against him and thinks he only did it to put him out of business and destroy his family. What's so impossible to believe that he heard the rumors at some point and decided they were true? -
That's what threw me off, having Honky be the one inducting Koko since not only is he not in the HOF but (as far as I can recall) they never had any interaction unless they feuded in Memphis. Also, how does Honky own his gimmick? That was a WWF creation was it not?

The Jim Ross Is A Grouchy Hateful Vile Human Being thread
sek69 replied to Loss's topic in Megathread archive
Not so much "grouchy, hateful" but more "do you expect people to believe this shit?" from JR's blog memorializing the late Mr. Martin: Riiiiiiiight. I guess that was thrown in there because Meltzer mentioned in his story that he was given that name because it was short for testosterone. -
........but the Legends of Wrestlemania game he's in just might. Not just because Koko's in it, but they can use his induction as a reason to plug the game.
-
The idea is for JBL to retire as champ as a babyface for the Texas crowd, beating Rey wouldn't allow that.

So let's look at the WM card so far: HHH vs Orton: I was actually stoked for this when they did the angle with Steph getting RKO'd, but since then all they've done is show HHH as a guy who gets blown up chasing someone around backstage. I don't think I can remember a match booked as a WM main event that was so full of "meh". Cena vs Edge vs Big Show: Show seems to be a transparent add on to make people forget Cena/Edge has been done a million times, but at least the angle with the Vickie love triangle was amusing. Edge usually has good performances, Cena is one of this era's best despite all the irrational smark hate, and Show's smart enough to GTFO of their way and let them do their thing. Taker vs HBK: Nothing says pro wrestling more than the fact that a match between two broken down 40-somethings is probably the most anticipated match on the card. The only thing that worries me is they are having Taker do promos as a regular dude and not a supernatural being, and seeing him stumble over his promo on RAW was the first time in a while it was noticable that he's not quite used to doing that again. Still, these are two guys who would die before putting on a bad WM performance so I'm sure they'll pull something off. Hardy vs Hardy: Matt is starting to click as a heel, and for once Jeff's emo-ness helps the storyline (YOU KILLED MAH DAWG, BAWWWWWW~!). Those two have been practicing this match for 20+ years, so it should be top notch. Jericho vs Legend: I hope they hurry up and pick Lawler for this, I really want to see a Heel Jericho vs Serious Jerry Lawler promo battle. It would be off the charts. Also Lawler is one of the few legends who can still work his style of match believably (he of the 10 minute phantom object heat spots), and Jericho's certainly capable of picking up the slack on the in-ring side if need be. Money in the Bank: Maybe I'm paranoid, but it sure seems that they're sticking Christian in this match so they can use it as justification for their irrational hate-boner they have about him if/when he isn't able to carry the whole match singlehandedly. Diva Battle: This is pretty much the Trish Spot and for morbid curiosity to see who they dug up from the past and how they aged. I just hope they don't bring Mae in since she almost died in the ring the last time. Unoffical: Miz/Morrison vs Colons: I don't know if this is going to be step one of ending the brand split, but it seems they're going to unify the tag titles at some point so why not at WM? JBL vs Kozlov. JBL's SHOCK THE WORLD bit is apparently going to be retiring at WM as IC champ. Since it's in his home state it makes sense, but Kozlov is just beyond terrible and they're matching him with a guy who's in such bad shape he's wrestling on TV with bigger breasts than most of the Divas.

"Macho Madness: The Randy Savage Ultimate Collection"
sek69 replied to stunning_grover's topic in Megathread archive
The thing about Vince is this is the guy who wanted to do an angle where he was the father of his own grandchild. How offended can a guy be over someone fucking your daughter if he wanted to fuck her too? -
Because WCW was the only one to ever beat them at their own game, even if it was only for a brief period of time. Also Vince's obsession with Billionaire Ted. Also also WCW has never been discussed in any sort of positive light by anyone on WWE programming except for when Bischoff was on the Monday Night Wars show on 24/7 and he was obviously put there to be everyone's pinata.
-
I have to wonder why even bother with a rise and fall type DVD on WCW. It's not like it was a small promotion that only part of the country got to witness at its peak, and as stated before it's not likely to contain anything not already discussed ad nauseum on previous releases where they run through the standard WCW Talking Points. I guess it would make good drinking game fodder, take a shot each time a former WCW employee now working for WWE makes a cheap shot comment, etc.

Luger's actually walking again, not that it disproves your point, I just wanted to throw that out there. It's pretty funny, the whole Bruno/Vince deal as it's the opposite of the usual thing of someone being removed from history over some petty bullshit. Bruno gets mentioned favorably all the time and it seems fairly obvious that Vince has respect for him and wants to patch things up. It's weird seeing the ex employee in the position of holding a weird grudge, but there it is. Also I'd wager if Bruno outlives Vince (and given their lifestyles it seems more likely than you'd think) he'd probably at least agree to go into the WWE HOF.
-
Seriously, if she works with WWE again there's probably no one else with an excuse not to.
-
Medusa's exit was the famous "women's belt in the trash can" deal, so I'd assume she's on Vince's shit list since that created the paranoia that lead to Montreal happening.
-
The economy is making Vince realize that sometimes cutting your nose off to spite your face isn't the best plan of action w/r/t making money. Like, if things stay crappy until 2010 like a lot of people think, I fully expect Randy Savage to be in the next HOF class (he's pretty much the only big name from the 80s left that isn't in).
-
Which makes me wonder, is this battle royal going to be Sunny, Trish, and like a bunch of Moolah's girls who were jobbers in the 80s?
