So, this Women's Battle Royal they are supposedly doing at WM where they bring back all the past women wrestlers/divas they can find, it caused two thoughts to cross my mind: 1. You think they reached out to Sable? 2. What are the odds that Tammy Sytch agrees to do it, and ends up using the money to fuck some guy wearing fireman boots and sleeping until nighttime the next day?

"He's ambitiously stupid" - Why Scott Keith's new book is scary bad
sek69 replied to Bix's topic in Megathread archive
I wasn't even thinking of the racial overtones, it was more like "please don't tell me a Roddy Piper promo is the first time he's heard the story of St. Patrick driving the snakes out of Ireland". Then again, I'm Irish so maybe that isn't as widespread a story as I think it is since I heard it a lot growing up. -

To quote Booker T, tell me he didn't just say that. -
Since it's going to be Taker/HBK at WM, there's a good opportunity for referencing history and to plug WWE 24/7: right now on the Monday Night War shows, they are at the point where they're hyping the Casket Match that caused Shawn's back injury.

....and the moment he realized the angle was going to be to the benefit of someone else he sure got the fuck out of Dodge. You have to hand it to him though, other than maybe Nash I can't think of anyone in wrestling so skilled at making sure they are always the focus of attention. Flair was always about making others look good, which was great for having ***** matches, but that doesn't matter when you're having to work the sheets to convince people you're not broke.

The difference is that Hogan would never allow himself to be one of a cast of many, regardless if WWE wanted to do it or not.

Since when do wrestlers get pensions?

Yeah, Dave's comments in the past few months about Flair's millions in retirement accounts have been talked about before. No one is quite sure where they're coming from, and most are scratching their head given so much being written in the past about Ric being headed for the poor house and needing Uncle Vinces paychecks. They don't entirely add up. John I don't get it either. Dave was also the one who mentioned Vince's personal loan to Flair being the thing keeping him afloat, not to mention that Flair's marriage ending because his wife stating "he couldn't stop being Ric Flair" which sure seemed to imply she left him. So I guess somehow despite having a reputation of spending money like water Ric somehow secretly squirreled away millions and managed to work Vince into giving him a huge personal loan? That doesn't seem right....

Speaking of Wrestlemania, Jericho is just running circles around the rest of the roster in terms of heel abilities. His segment with Snuka was just magic, since he was paired with a guy who was barely intelligible in in his prime he had to do both sides of the promo and still pulled it off. I have a feeling he's going to end up getting heat for out-heeling the main event program since WWE doesn't like it when guys don't know their roles.

1988-06-10. NJPW. Adrian Adonis & Dick Murdoch vs. Billy Gasper (Bob Orton Jr.) & Barry Gasper (Barry Orton). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RhfATZcLHFs 1988-06-19. NJPW. Adrian Adonis & Dick Murdoch vs. Masa Saito & Big Van Vader http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Domfk4f9NBg http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K3RmTorRY5s Wow, he did lose a lot of weight. He was absolutely gigantic in the AWA, and in those matches he almost looks like his pre-Adorable self.

Yeah I was kind of lumping in the Demon with "bad Russo gimmicks" but he really does need a special mention. What killed me about that gimmick wasn't the typical WCW ass-backwardsness of making a deal then having to be forced to honor it, but was how they would constantly remind the viewers that it was just Dale Torborg: Random Dude in the Demon costume. They couldn't even let it stand as its own character. I always wondered, how much SHOOT~! was the Russo/Hogan deal? It seems like everyone was aware of the general idea but not that Russo would go as far in his promo as he did.

Everything I've read about the Apocalypse rumor is that it was something that was tossed around as an idea for like 2 seconds, and somehow (as in being repeated as fact in SKeith rants constantly) it became something that was set in stone only to be snatched away at the last second. Also, I'm watching Bash at the Beach 2000 on 24/7 and I think it's quite possibly the most WCW-ish show ever. You have Madden being annoying, bad Russo gimmicks, SHOOTING~!, highspot filled cruiserweight matches, and Tony being perplexed in ways Mike Tenay can only dream of being on Impact. And Norman Smiley. And RALPHUS. Really, you don't get more WCW than that.

I'm curious what the small NWA member territories think about the NWA world title being put on Blue Demon Jr when it seems there's a lot of groups in the US that could benefit from having a "world title match". I know having the NWA champion on your card doesn't have the drawing power it did in say, 1975, but there's still some name recognition out there that a group could use to get a few extra tickets sold. I guess that's just typical NWA thinking though, they'd rather use the belt to try to prop up a territory that isn't going to work (the NWA name has pretty much zero meaning in Mexico since the old school champs almost never toured there) instead of using it to help the US groups.

My point being, when did wrestling ever focus on continuity? You had Michael Hayes teaming with the Von Erichs in the dying days of WCCW, you had Nikita go from evil heel Russian monster to babyface because he "respected" Magnum TA, a guy he spent the last year trying to destroy? As shocking as it was, what sense did it make for Hogan to turn heel and join the nWo? His rationale made no sense because even though the crowds were starting to get bored of Hulkamania, he was still being pushed as a much loved babyface superhero. Sure, WWE might do even less of a job keeping track of continuity than in the good old days, but it was hardly something that was a main point of focus back then either.

Wasn't there something with WCW not bringing Tully in because the corporate suits didn't want to bring someone in who was fired from the WWF for failing a drug test? I seem to recall there being a story where it was basically a done deal for him to go back but someone stooged on him about the failure and WCW pulled the offer. -
I've always wondered, do you think Hulk is aware of his bullshitting or has he been in wrestling so long he really believes the stuff he says in interviews?

It's pro wrestling, I think of it like Chris Rock said about playing basketball with a retarded kid and calling him for double dribble: you just gotta let some shit slide. If you go around looking for logic gaps you'll end up completely taking yourself out of enjoying the show because you're fixated on finding something to complain about. I think that's the biggest problem internet fans face, it's not like any of us (that I'm aware of) are getting paid to be wrestling critics. I'd also want to mention there's a HUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGE difference between not jumping on every potential logical fault and the stuff that WCW/TNA pulled off. They (and I guess at this point you can single out Nash specifically since he's doing the exact same shit in TNA) are purposely trying to insult the audience strictly for their own amusement instead of the actual goal of pro wresting, which is making money. One thing I think is always true about Vince and the WWE is that I don't think you can ever say they purposely went out to insult their audience just for shits and giggles. Yes, from time to time, Vince will use his TV time to work out some issues with people he thinks are "attacking" him, but I've never seen them go to Kevin Nash levels where they are just going out there for their personal amusement and not even attempting to pretend anything going on is real.

Kennedy was going to be the illegitimate McMahon kid until he got Wellness'd and they ended up making it a joke with Hornswaggle. The more I read people complaining about the logistics of wrestling angles, the more I want to do my impression of the "Really?" bit from SNL As in really, we're going to start applying logic to a business that brought us things like guys videotaping a beatdown in a parking lot then airing it on national TV? Really? And this HHH-Steph angle crosses the logic line when they've had a wrestling zombie for 15 years? Really?

Also Kill Bill ripped off Hogan with the five point touch of death, clearly Hogan was supposed to be in the Uma Thurman role.

Another SK head scratcher: I thought it was settled that a pin in wrestling can be established by contact between the two wrestlers, and I've never heard that someone getting pinned from passing out in a figure four isn't "legal". There's only been roughly a billion examples proving both of SK's points wrong. -
Obviously, but my point was he's in some kind of shape so if it came down to him having to wrestle he wouldn't come out looking like a fat tub of goo. I think it's been long established that people on the internet don't reflect the opinions of the PPV buying public at large. Most people buying the show do so because they see "Wrestlemania" and know that's the show to buy, us internet types tend to need a little more than that. Then again, I'd wager a lot of us order Wrestlemania every year pretty much on name value too.

They taped the explosion the night before, but I'm pretty sure Vince's walk of doom was done live. Also I think the junkie comment is in regards to his obvious love of herbals. Of course junkie isn't the correct term, but what the hey.

Austin is supposedly in shape for a movie he is doing, so that wouldn't be an issue as much as him not being active in wrestling for so long. It seems that they were seeding the idea of Lawler vs Jericho from the way he was so disgusted at Piper getting beat up on RAW. It wouldn't have the celebrity rub that they wanted from Rourke, but it would be a much better match (assuming they don't make Lawler work "WWE Legend style" where they get pummeled by a youngster until getting a fluke win). I think they (as usual) stumbled into something great with the HHH/Orton angle, since just as no one bought the HBK/JBL storyline because it was too ridiculous to be true, here you have something based in reality. Looking back, you can see how they sort of were planning for this angle for a while, Steph hasn't been physically involved since coming back and they always are doing something to subtly remind folks she's a mom now. Of course everyone knew of the marriage for a while, but when Steph gets laid out by a heel, suddenly there's a real sense of "oh shit, he just nailed the mother of HHH's kids". Also I think you have to give credit to HHH for not going overboard with this. His mugging as a face sometimes gets annoying to the point of distraction, but he's playing this perfectly as a guy who just watched his wife get attacked. The sitdown with JR on Smackdown (do those ever fail to get people/angles over?) where he was too mad to even speak was a thing of awesomeness.

People with dementia/Alzheimer's frequently revert to their previous careers when the disease progresses. My mom worked at a nursing home with an Alzheimer's patient who was a former heavyweight boxer. Despite the fact he was an old man, he still KO'd a few nurses' aides before my mom realized in his mind he was back in the boxing ring. She talked to him like she was his corner man and that's how she was able to put him to bed. Most likely Verne and the other guy had a disagreement and Verne's mind went back to his wrestling days and did what he was trained to do when faced with someone trying to "shoot" on you.

Lots of regular sexualy snide asides were also aimed at Ross. Heyman, and Cornette as being homosexuals on commentary as well. I'm trying to remember which face Flair always talked about as having hard time swallowing his nut. When has JR ever been called gay on commentary? Let's not forget Gorilla's constant mention of the Terry Garvin School of Self-Defense.
