Meltz's update read like Dave feeling like he needed to address the situation without really knowing 100% what is going on.

The Voodoo Kin Mafia declaring 'war' on WWE and DX
sek69 replied to a topic in NMB Wrestling Archive
Well lets see, so far TNA has: 1. Promoted a WWE PPV by accepting the Hardys' challenge. 2. Bought tickets for a WWE event. 3. Mentioned WWE more on their website in the last couple weeks than WWE has ever mentioned a competitor ever. Yeah, I'm sure Vince McMahon is sweating over TNA now, they just made him some extra pocket money. I defend TNA more than most people on the internet (mostly because up til now most net complaints have been overexaggerated bullshit) but this stuff is indefensible. -
You could tell WWE doesn't care about this show, both by how they placed it a week after one of the Big Four and how they didn't bother to announce any matches other than the main event until the last possible moment. Even then they just threw some shit together. ECW is just looking more and more like a plaything Vince lost interest in and is just being allowed to wither on the vine. The ironic thing is that ECW gets better ratings on Sci-Fi than probably anything else on the network so they'll want WWE to keep it around.

I thought they did a pretty good job with the Edge/Orton team by having Edge acknowledge they've fought in the past but they should put it aside because they've both been screwed by DX. Speaking of, I was much more annoyed by the whole "ship the Spirit Squad back to OVW" segment. What a complete waste of young talent compounded by having the two most politically powerful folks in the company decimate them at every turn and almost literally bury them on TV. Talk about Russoish shooty angles, does any of the average RAW viewership even know what OVW is? HHH and HBK must really have small penises that they're compensating for, I don't think I ever recall guys at the top going out of their way to bury people who posed so little threat to their position. Maybe HBK heard all the talk about Johnny Jeter in OVW being Shawn Michaels-like and wanted to nip that foolishness in the bud. Having said that, all 5 members will probably show up on RAW in the next couple weeks under new names with no mention of their past.

Isn't the old TBS Techwood studio a nightclub now as part of an entertainment complex?
-
So for those who watched, was the DX match as much of a total job out as the results suggest? I mean, it's not like Mike Knox is going to be the next world champion or anything, but Jesus Christ couldn't team DX drop one fall?

TNA actually invoking the "champ loses the belt on a DQ" for the first time since like the Nashville days was kinda neat in the sense of continuity. They'd mention it from time to time that the champ can lose the belt on a DQ but they haven't done it in like forever. I thought that would get forgotten with Vince "what's a clean finish?" Russo around. I'm not a fan of Russo devaluing titles, but at least stripping LAX of the tag titles makes sense in the storyline. It gives their "held down by the man" gimmick some cred while giving Cornette the chance to do awesome promos ( didn't watch, but it's Cornette so I'm just going to assume if he didn't do one last night there'll be one on Thursday). As far as Angle-Joe goes, I guess it's better to have Joe's first loss come to Kurt Angle rather than Random TNA Wrestler #70 who'll get depushed and forgotten about. Then again, it does kinda make TNA wrestlers look second rate to have their top guy tap out to someone who up until recently was a top WWE guy. That's the kind of shit that cements the WWE > TNA in the average fan's mind.

Fact Or Fiction II: The Return Of The Long Forgotten Answer

Why does WWE use that yellow and blue version of the AWA logo? I don't remember the AWA ever using that. -
Lita in character fronting her band, The Luchagors: They even have a Myspace page that has some of their tracks up. It's suprisingly good, I like them better than Fozzy. Who would have thought Lita would be the much better 80s butt rock singer than Chris Jericho? *edit* Upon some research, it seems this was from a Halloween performance and they don't usually dress up like that. Still, LitaParka is funny no matter if it's a one time thing or not.

With the NWO, the idea was that guys from the WWF were taking over the company (until WWF sued and that aspect was toned way down) so it wasn't such a potential detriment that Hall and Nash were pushing 40. DX was designed to be the new generation not listening to the old farts anymore (ie their run ins with Commissioner Slaughter and the Hart Foundation).

The flaw with that logic is that most smarks don't seem to back TNA, rather they use them as a replacement for WCW in their non stop and repetitive bashing threads. At the risk of sounding like one of those insufferable "YAY TNA IZ TEH BESTES!" shills/trolls at DVDVR, the smark type are using the same material to bash TNA now that they did in 2002. How long did we hear the same tired "TNA will be dead in *x* weeks" stuff? There's no shortage of legit beefs one can have with the company but most of the complainers rehash the same old shit.
-
You know, Jeff Jarrett actually seems like a pretty alright guy. He gets way too much shit on the net, some is deserved but I'd wager most isn't. I mean, look at how TNA has come from 2002 to now. They're on national TV every week, PPV monthly, have deals for wrestling figures and DVDs, and working agreements with other groups in different parts of the world (as opposed to how WWE doesn't acknowledge wrestling in other countries unless it's one of their shows). At least they have a plan. Sure, it remains to be seen if it works, but even having a plan would seem to give them a leg up on WWE who's only plan seems to be what amuses Vince's ever crazier mind.

What kills me is JR will spout shit like "wrestling's a young man's game" and other things basically saying if guys can't get over, it's their own fault while at the same time ignoring their top act is a couple of forty(or almost)somethings doing the same gimmick they did 10 years ago. It would have been interesting if they had kept the character development both have had and kept HHH as the ruthless destroyer of men and HBK as the reformed party guy who will superkick your teeth out for Jesus. Instead they're just regressed into a couple of goobers making dick jokes and references to Mike Myers movies.

The one that immediately springs to mind is a tease that Gene Okerlund ran where you had to call the hotline to find out what Davey Boy Smith and Magic Johnson had in common. Holy shit, that's horrible. Obviously Davey Boy didn't have AIDS so what was the punchline if you actually called in?

Poll for 11/13/06; Hulk Hogan vs. Big Show at Wrestlemania XXIII
sek69 replied to a topic in NMB Wrestling Archive
I know the Andre stories are real, I'm wondering about the Big Show stories. It's pretty interesting that they want to have WM 23 with Hogan-Giant (by proxy) II and the same stories are coming out now that were around back then. I kinda get the vibe that this is sort of a work-the-sheets type of deal since they've never mentioned it on TV or done any storylines that would indicate they're writing Show off like they normally do when someone's leaving. BTW, what was the backup plan for WM III? -
Poll for 11/13/06; Hulk Hogan vs. Big Show at Wrestlemania XXIII

I'm wondering if the stories about Show's health aren't being worked a bit. Sure, ECW style has to be hard on a 500 pound body, but this is almost exactly the same stories that circled around WM III, which was very much in doubt due to Andre's back problems. As badly as they want to re-create Hogan/Andre, they just won't be able to. Years of comedy have pretty much robbed Show of having the air of the bad ass unstoppable freak of nature that heel Andre had. Even though it was exaggerated for the storyline, it was still a while since Andre had been beaten or slammed while everyone in the WWE has slammed or beaten Show at some point. Maybe as part of the buildup, Show will be suspended for no showing house shows and we'll see the debut of the Show Machine. -
True, but he's an active participant who's dealing with crippling pain (wasn't there something in the last WON about him needing a wheelchair to get around at an airport?).....surely he's not just gritting his teeth or relying on Tylenol. He seems to blow both the "TNA doesn't let hurt guys work" and "TNA doesn't stand for drug use" defenses out of the water singlehandedly.
-
Odd that when Angle mentioned TNA wouldn't let anyone work hurt that Dave didn't jump on Konnan who's been putting off hip replacement for months now.
-
This is going to warp the mind of the "OMG YOU HAVE NO PROOF ANGLE TOOK PAINKILLERZ~!" crowd, along with Angle apparently trying to challenge Hogan in the History Re-Writing Olympics: So in this story we find out: Angle was indeed the major addict that everyone was reporting, but was able to quit cold turkey despite taking more painkillers than anyone in wrestling history. He begged WWE for time off, and Vince said no, undoubtedly twirling an imaginary villian moustache whilst saying it. His sister died of a herion overdose despite it being reported at the time she had the same heart problems that killed their father and plauge the Angle family. He claims he knows when it'll be time to retire, despite continuing to work with limb numbness and a painkiller habit that would knock out an elephant. At least he didn't claim he bodyslammed a 700 Big Show in front of 100,000 in Wembley Stadium.

Been noticing that some things are being changed recently, most noticably that on the new Hogan DVD they edited out Heenan's "BUT WHO'S SIDE IS HE ON??" comment and the replies to it, and Heenan's reaction when Hogan turned ("I KNEW IT"). That kinda bugs me since it was like Heenan finally was validated for hating Hogan all those years in the WWF. In several shows, they have addresses or phone numbers from contests or promotions running at the time the show originally aired. They cover up the on-screen phone numbers but they don't edit out anyone saying the number. Sucks to be the person with that number now. Also, is it me or do the Nitro portion of the Monday Night War shows seem pretty short? They barely reach an hour and a half, was TNT showing that many commericals?
-
Well considering that was in the 70's, that could be possible. Considering kayfabe was going strong and Hogan was a fan, he coulda been like the "IT'S STILL REAL TO ME" guy.

Fact Or Fiction II: The Return Of The Long Forgotten Answer

Here's one: In the Pena obit in the WON, Meltzer suggests that Vince got the idea for the replacement Diesel, Razor, and Double J from Pena putting new people in the gimmicks he owned in AAA. Now there was a deal between the two in place, but I have a hard time believing Vince would borrow an idea from a Mexican fed he clearly felt was below him. -
Wrestling thoughts that probably don't deserve

Say what you will about the new ECW, but Heyman coming out for the main even in a tracksuit with taped fists had me cracking up. He looked like he could be Triple H's crazy jewish uncle. -

I've got one: Is Rock really related to the Samoan Wrestling clan, or is he their equivalent to Brian Pillman as "close friend to the family who's considered one of the gang"?
