  1. I read "vertical drop" as engrish for head-droppy 90s AJPW moves.
  2. Yeah it's set up to be the first of multi volume set, but it's been years since that disc has been released and nothing else has come of it. This is why it's not a bad thing that Vince is buying up all the territory footage. I know Kevin's been rumored to be not the brightest guy and this seems to confirm it. He's sitting on a money printing machine since he owns the footage of some of the best feuds in wrestling history, and he's done fuck all with it.
  3. I have that DVD, and what's odd is what they say is on the DVD isn't, but what is on there is better what they had advertised. It's mostly Freebirds vs Von Erichs stuff in various singles, tag, and six man combos.
  4. I would hope it's a survey of fans in Japan, otherwise it would mean the people who visit SSS speak in a style that reads like English that has been translated from Japanese.
  5. I still think it was funny that the D-list celebrities on Dancing With The Stars were looking down their nose at wrestling.
  6. That doesn't make sense, why would a probation officer keep someone from plying their trade? Couldn't he give him the number of a PO in Birmingham and say "call this guy when you get there or you go jail"?
  7. Boogeyman wasn't eating poop, his gimmick in OVW is that he eats liver as well as worms, and someone (Punk?) trapped the Spirit Squad in the bathroom with Boogey by throwing liver on the floor and shutting them in.
  8. I always thought that what works in wrestling really hasn't changed since like, the 70s at least. When I hear a promoter saying that something won't work anymore, I hear it as they're too lazy/not skilled enough to pull it off. People try to make things harder than they need to be. There's a 25 year template of what makes money in wrestling and what doesn't. Sure, sometimes it requires luck to snag the right guy at the right moment, but it's not rocket science.
  9. Someone at DVDVR made an interesting observation: WWE did just recently roll out the new drug program, and Marty is on probation. Maybe he balked at pissing in a cup?
  10. From WWE.com: Working the angle, or did Marty fuck up again? Either way it's the most strangely worded release note ever.
  11. According to obsessedwithwrestling.com, Choshu's real name is Mitsuo Yoshida, which sounds more Japanese than Korean to me.
  12. The first volume they put out was good, the second was just CLIPTASTIC~! Even with a low end distrib, they did shockingly little with the mint they were sitting on.
  13. I hate having WWE in control of almost all wrestling footage, but Graham wasn't doing shit with it. Better WWE owns it and gives us a shot of seeing some of this stuff.
  14. Is he Korean ethnically or was he just born in Korea, because his real name sounds more Japanese than anything else.
  15. Japanese have always disliked Koreans, Rikidozan was Korean passing as Japanese and I don't think the truth was revealed till well after his death.
  16. I hear stories about Misawa not liking Americans too, and I wonder how much of that is a product of Japanese culture, which is one of the most homogenous industrialized cultures on the planet. I mean, someone pointed out at DVDVR (before their hypersensitive mod squad shut it down as usual) that Bob Sapp could never be as popular in the US as he is (was?) in Japan because his whole appeal is being a giant black guy. As far as Benoit goes, not to defend asshole behavoir but it would be REALLY hard not to rib guys who have to wrestle as "The Dicks" considering the typical wrestler mindset.
  17. I think that it'll probably get them some more mainstream viewers, and I don't think TNA will expose him by doing 20+minute main events. Some people will probably complain, but TNA needs some names people have heard of to get some of the old WCW audience that doesn't watch wrestling anymore. If he gets some more eyeballs looking at TNA, I don't think it'll be a bad thing.
  18. ...and Edge is now in the mid-card feuding with Foley and the WWE has beaten the fans over the head with Edge being a transitional champion who got lucky. BRILLIANT~!commercial guys>
  19. Yet they showed up at the last OVW taping renouncing the Dick gimmick, saying they were going back to being the Tolands. Meltz theorized that since they live near Louisville, they're going to spend the 90 day period putting over tag teams in OVW.
  20. The ROH/TNA spat seems to be growing, as ROH has decided not to book Lethal for any more shows since he chose to go to the TNA PPV and miss the ROH show that caused Strong and Aries so much problems. Both companies are sending a message that they want to be #1 priority for their workers.
  21. And in all the excitement over Taker actually working, somehow "Taker's best match in years" turned into "MOYTC for 2006" on the net.
  22. Meltz HOF News: Holy crap, someone remembered SD Jones is still alive! See, that's the kind of randomness that makes the WWE HOF awesome. Who would ever have thought we'd see SD Jones on TV again?
