  1. Well, he was fired/suspended when he was on trial (when HBK replaced him at Survivor Series vs the Hart Family) and he was only brought back when the case was dismissed. Legally he was found not to have done it (I don't remember exactly how it played out other than he wasn't found guilty) , despite every guy who's ever worked in Memphis having a "Lawler and the little girls" story. Double standard? Probably, but then so is the "teacher has sex with the student" when it's a young boy with a hot blonde teacher.
  2. Well one thing, most of what you mentioned happened in the 80s when the business was much more closed off. If any of that happened now, there would be huge reactions. *edit* This is in reply to Loss's post.
  3. From Meltz (with the usual Meltzerian typos fixed by me): I was wondering how long TNA would put up with no-shows, since it seems like someone's MIA ever PPV they do. I'm sure the ROHbots will be upset, but for Strong and Aries to risk missing a PPV for a company with nationwide TV so they can work a show in a blizzard for an indy is kind of a slap in the face to TNA. Yeah I know they're getting a lot of talent from ROH but when a company has you booked for a PPV slot you should at least give the impression that they're the priority.
  4. Over at DVDVR, there was a thread that got (prematurely, IMO) closed about RF and his new promotion losing their building. Basically, RF's new promotion was going to run in an Elks Lodge until a bunch of people were calling the Lodge and telling them about Rob's past. Now the Lodge said they're not hosting any more wrestling shows. This made me wonder, we excuse a lot of things under the banner of "it's just pro wrestling", but there was actually people defending RF in the DVDVR thread. There were comments basically saying people should let it go, it's been 2 years, etc. Are people that jaded or just stupid? For those who forgot/don't know, Rob was caught by a web site that targets pedophiles setting up a meeting with who he thought was a 14 year old boy. He even expresses fear of getting caught in the chat transcripts but still goes through with it. Even then he was more afraid of losing his wrestling empire than the whole "having sex with a 14 year old" aspect. This is part of the reason I have a hard time getting into ROH. After all this broke, they made all the right PR moves saying Rob no longer was part of the company until it came out that he was still working for them on the downlow for months. I sometimes wonder how much Gabe knew before it became public. It's nothing you could ever prove one way or another of course, but it always creeped me out that they kept him on the payroll after everything came out. I've said in the Eddie thread that it bothers me when kids are involved in wrestling angles. It kind of applies here since 15-25 year old males are a large part of the fanbase for groups like ROH. Is it right for people to let the building know that the wrestling promotion they booked is run by someone who attempted to solict a 14 year old? What about the guys who work for the promotion? Guys gotta get a paycheck, but would you work for a guy like RF? I'm sure wrestling promoters have done worse things than this (especially since as far as we know RF never actually got to do the deed with anyone underage), but should "someone else did something worse" be an excuse?
  5. I still maintain this was Kanyon trying to jump-start his career by claiming to be the first openly-gay wrestler (btw, that can't possibly be true can it?) and since it's Kanyon he didn't think it through and realize that would mean that the real Chris Whateverthehellhisnameis is gay too.
  6. I have to admit, I've been watching the WM box set and the blurring isn't as distracting as I thought it would be. It only gets annoying when someone says "WWF" and they mute the F. Rock had a promo at WM 2000 where he says "WWF" every other word and he ends up sounding like he has Tourette's. It might be interesting to pick this up for the main program, just to hear Hulk kayfabe every aspect of his life and talk about bodyslamming the 800 pound Andre in front of a million people 2 weeks before he died.
  7. Kanyon released this Warrior-esque statement the other day: So basically he's saying that "Chris Kanyon" is gay but "Chris Klucsarits" is of unknown sexual origin. In other words, he's working an angle.
  8. If you have Hulk Still Rules, the nWo DVD, and the Best of the 80s DVD, you already have like 3/4ths of this set. Not to mention the Hulk Rules and the nWo sets are uncensored and unblurred. For a company that owns almost all recorded wrestling of the last 30 years, this is a disappointment.
  9. Yeah but I think Bret takes it to the next level of pure markishness. There's believing in your character to get to the top and stay there, and there's believing in your character to the point of getting into arguments with co-workers because they thought someone else was a better wrestler and working with the company you said for years you'd never work for again just to make sure they don't bury you and give you a proper sendoff. I mean, according to Bret it was going to take and act of Congress and hell freezing over for him to ever work with Vince again, but in the end all it took was WWE threatening to release a burial DVD about him. There's guys who've had far less done to them by WWE who'd never work for them again.
  10. PWInsider is saying that WWE isn't paying for Bret's appearance since he wants to "maintain his integrity" and not work for WWE again. So I guess he didn't get a cut of those DVD sales, huh? If true, it only furthers my belief that Bret is the world's biggest mark. Even more than hearing Road Dogg talk about Bret confronting him on the plane because Bret heard on the internet Road Dogg said he thought HBK was a better wrestler.
  11. I wonder what ever happened with the whole "bleeding hep infected blood over the Undertaker" thing.
  12. For some reason, Ted DiBiase's WWF theme is running through my head right now.
  13. Dave Penzer gives TNA a more major league feel, at least to people who remember WCW. Borash always struck me as bush league.
  14. What's funny is a lot of people who enjoy dumping on TNA are burying this PPV on what they think will happen in the future ("JJ's just gonna win the belt back on Impact! so this PPV will retroactively be worthless") than for anything that happened on the PPV itself. The "typical TNA overbooked shit" only happens in JJ matches, unless you count matches in their ECW/Hardcore division where overbooking is the name of the game.

  17. Sable had about as much of a bridge-burning exit as you can get and she got re-hired by the WWE. Women wrestlers have less negotiation room because women's wrestling has never even come close in popularity to men's wrestling. It's not even a WWF/E thing, as the NWA had women wrestling and various women's feds have been around and it never catches on. Women wrestling is a niche in the US like midget wrestling used to be. The only time it was close was during the Rock n' Wrestling era when Wendi Richter was the most over woman the WWF has ever had, but who's to say that's not because she was paired with Cindi Lauper who was a huge pop star at the time? It sure wasn't because of her ringwork, she was the shits in the ring. You really can't compare guys like the Rock to women wrestlers either. It's like the Pens expecting to treat Sidney Crosby and some scrub from their AHL team the same in contract negotiations. The Rock is one of the biggest draws in company history and has made more money than anyone not named Hogan or Austin. Of course WWE would roll out the red carpet if he wanted to come back. No woman wrestler would get that attention because no woman wrestler has ever made the company that much money. Sable has probably been the best women's draw in the post-80s era, and I'm willing to bet if Brock ever comes back to WWE, she might too. As far as Kanyon goes, it's been common knowledge for a while now that Vince and his inner circle pretty much only focus on the main eventers. I don't think Vince knows or cares about the sexual orientation of anyone in the middle or undercard, hell you can make the argument he doesn't even know they exist most of the time. Making the claim that the WWE would fire someone for being gay when most if not all of their releases are for little or no reason whatsoever seems to be a stretch. He was injured a lot and we all know WWE creative has a hard time finding something for people to do who are in the mid card or lower, and that seems a much more likely reason for dismissal than his sexual status. I still think he's working an angle with that indy, but then again you played the "you can't judge if you aren't in the business" card, so what do I know.
  18. What gets lost in the outrage over the Eddie angle is that WWE felt that's what had to be done to get Rey heat, basically turn him into Eddie by proxy. When you stop to think about it, that's pretty disrespectful of Rey.
  19. WWE shot itself in the foot by freaking out and putting the title on Edge and then back on Cena 3 months before WM. It cut the drama out of the match since now HHH winning won't have the added zest of being the the one to defeat a long reigning champ. The only draw Taker has at WM is who is the guy who'll end his win streak, and you know damn well Mark Henry isn't going to be the one to do it. The only drama here is how is Taker going to finish him: the one-inch (off the ground) chokeslam or will he try to Tombstone him have his back collapse like a lawn chair? Angle-Orton might be a draw, but again the WWE booking rears its ugly head. Orton would have to go over to justify the angle they're running. The way things are going now, the fans are going to be totally confused if they're supposed to cheer for Angle or not, which will probably muddle the crowd reaction.
  20. I'm thinking WWE sold it to her by mentioning that her appearing at a PPV that's going to be released on DVD would mean more royalties for the family.
  21. .....and that Ken Anderson in OVW became Ken Kennedy in WWE which everyone knows is Vince's middle name and it's probably the reason he's getting pushed. He's also got undeniable charisma that will make him a superstar if he's allowed to do what he was able to do in OVW. I think Vince probably saw that and overruled Steph's hatred of all things Heyman. I'm sure smoke comes from her ears every time he appears on WWE TV.
  22. I think that fucking Dark Journey is better evidence that he didn't dislike black people, but that's me. Same thing happens to most of the men who ask for more money or a bigger role. Doesn't prove anything. I'm sure there have been several people through the years that were known to be gay internally, if not publically. I don't think WWE would fire someone just for being gay because 99 times out of 100 I don't think the people doing the hiring and firing ever get to know someone the level of Kanyon to be able to figure out who he's fucking. I don't think Vince could pick Kanyon out of a lineup let alone know the inner workings of his social life.
  23. Didn't the Rock admit at some point that he got carried away? I don't think the plan was for 15 unprotected chairshots. Not even Foley is that crazy. I'd buy they planned more than 3 but not 15.
  24. Cornette and Heyman both ran afoul of Stephzilla by trying to have wrestling on a wrestling show instead of her preferred soap opera theatrics.
  25. How do you even train a crowd to do that? You should see OVW crowds, it's like a time warp back to the old Techwood studios that Saturday Night used to be in.
