PROUD MEMBER OF THE AMERICAN WRESTLING ASSOCIATION SOUTHEASTERN CHAMPIONSHIP WRESTLING TV Saturday 11th February 1984 Taped in front of a live studio audience at the WTBS Television Studio in Atlanta, GA Hosted by Charlie Platt and Gordon Solie Taped in front of a live studio audience at the WTBS studio in Atlanta, our host’s again this week will be none other than Gordon Solie and Charlie Platt. They welcome us to the show and run through this evening show, we will be seeing The Fabulous Ones in action, Tim Horner will be in single action against The Flame, we will hear from National Heavyweight Champion “Wildfire” Tommy Rich and who he is selecting as the special guest referee for his upcoming title match with Buddy Landell. But before all that we will go to the ring where The Masked Yankee is ready for his match with Ken Lucas. Lucas who was again cheated this past Monday in his match with his former tag team partner Roy Lee Welch. Lucas has a competitive match with this newcomer the masked but Lucas’s experience is too much and he gets the win following a Sleeper Hold at 6 minutes. Ken Lucas joins Solie and Platt at the announcers table, Ken Lucas tells Gordon and Charlie that he has spoken with the match makers and this week in Birmingham on Monday, he and Roy Lee Welch will face off in a special 2 out of 3 falls match, which he knows he can win as he knows there’s no way the referee can miss seeing him hold the ropes more than once in one match, and he promises to settle the score. === Advert === Next up we have the Hollywood Blondes with Baby Doll come out, Baby Doll tells Gordon Solie and Charlie Platt that Buddy Landell and Magnum Scott Hall aren’t here this week, their off looking at new private jets to fly everyone from town to town when Landell wins the National Heavyweight Championship. Embry, Timbs and Doll then turn their attention to the Jimmy Golden, The Blondes send out a tag team challenge to Jimmy Golden this Monday in Birmingham, that’s if he can find himself a partner, they joke about how both Robert and Ron Fuller are on the shelf and it’s no secret that Golden isn’t the most liked of people in Southeastern Championship Wrestling. The Blondes now make their way to the ring for their match with The Armstrong Brothers Scott and Steve. The Blondes get the win following a DDT from Embry to Steve Armstrong followed by the cover for the 3 count at 8 minutes. Following the bell, Jimmy Golden charges the ring, and attacks Embry and Timbs until they leave the ring and escape to the back with Baby Doll. Jimmy Golden walks over to Gordon Solie and Charlie Platt, he’s says he may of burnt a lot of bridges over the past ten years but he’s got the perfect partner in mind for this Monday. === Run down of this week’s action coming to Alabama and Georgia === We are shown two VTR’s of Nightmare Danny Davis past two defenses in his “Beat the Champ” Television Championship, one over Johnny Rich and the other being Mr Wrestling. Both weeks he has swapped places with his partner Nightmare Ken Wayne behind the referee back. Danny Davis is waiting in the ring for this week’s draw with his partner on the outside. Charlie Platt holds open the bag and Gordon Solie dips his hand into the bag and pulls out a name, he looks and sniggers to himself, Gordon shows Charlie the name, Platt with a similar smirk. Gordon reads out the name as Nightmare Ken Wayne, Davis is shocked. Wayne gets into the ring, him and Davis have a talk and shake hands. The bell rings, both men look quite reluctant to hit one another, both men go to lock up, and then break, this happens several times, then Davis hits the ropes, and hits Wayne with the lightest of light shoulder blocks, Wayne goes to the mat, and Davis covers him for the 3 count. Gordon Solie puts over how much of a farce this match was as Danny Davis goes 3/5 in his quest for a title match. === Advert === The Fabulous Ones who challenge the Southeastern Tag Team Champions The Heavenly Bodies this week in Birmingham, these teams have met 4 times in the past and this will be the rubber match in this feud as the last time these two teams met it ended in a DQ as The Hollywood Blondes attacked the Fabs at Superclash. Tommy Lane and Mike Davis are waiting in the ring for their tag team match this evening against The Fabulous Ones. As the Fabulous Ones make their way to the ring, they are jumped by the tag champs Bobby Eaton and Tom Pritchard along with Big Bubba Lynch, they beat down the Fabulous Ones on the outside of the ring, which included Bobby Eaton coming off the middle rope to the floor hitting an Alabama Jam on Steve Keirn and Big Bubba Lynch hitting a big splash on Lane on the floor. This is clearly an attack to put the Fabs out of their tag title match on Monday. === Run down of this week’s action coming to Alabama and Georgia === We return from the break and the make shift team of Mr Wrestling and Johnny Rich make their way to the ring to face off with Tommy Lane and Mike Davis. The match goes for about 7 minutes when Johnny Rich hits a Flying Cross Body on Mike Davis and covers him for the 3 count. === Advert === Following the break we return and we have Phil Hickerson and The Flame come out to the announcer’s desk before The Flame’s match with Tim Horner. Hickerson and The Flame reiterate that they are out to kill off the Armstrong breed in professional wrestling, and Brad got a small piece of it this past Monday, and this Monday Scott and Steve Armstrong will be getting the same this Monday coming. And now Tim Horner gets his, due to his association with Brad Armstrong, The Flame makes his way into the ring waiting on Tim Horner. Tim Horner comes to the ring with Brad Armstrong, to a lot of fanfare. The match starts with The Flame getting frustrated with the speed of Tim Horner, finally Flame gets his hands on Horner and is using his size and weight for the advantage. The end came when The Flame went for a running charge into the corner on Horner, only for Tim Horner to slip out inbetween the middle rope letting The Flame to charge into the corner. Horner climbs to the top rope and dives onto The Flame and gets a surprising 3 count at 9 minutes. Horner and Armstrong celebrate on the outside as The Flame and Phil Hickerson grab hold of Dave Hebner the referee suggesting there was a fast count. === Run down of this week’s action coming to Alabama and Georgia === We return from break with National Heavyweight Champion “Wildfire” Tommy Rich joining Gordon Solie and Charlie Platt. Gordon welcomes Rich and ask him if he’s decided who he going choose as the special guest referee for his National Heavyweight Title match this Monday in Birmingham. Gordon explains to the fans that special guest referee stipulation came about when last week Buddy Landell claimed he wouldn’t get fair title shot and demanded that there was a special guest referee and that the winner of the match last Monday would get to choose, in that match “Bullet” Bob Armstrong defeat Ken Timbs to win the decision for Tommy Rich, backfiring on Landell. Rich says he has decided who he wants to be special guest referee, he invites his cousin out Johnny Rich, Tommy Rich says you can’t have more trust than with family. We wait a minute or so and Johnny Rich doesn’t come out, then from the back comes Southeastern Heavyweight Champion “Bullet” Bob Armstrong, “Bullet” tells Tommy that Johnny took off after his match this evening with his boys Steve and Scott, but as he’s here he wanted to offer his services, he said that he won the match last Monday and he can trust him like family. Gordon Solie reminds Tommy Rich he must have a signature on the contract tonight so they can have it all processed through Stanley Blackburn. Tommy Rich says that he doesn’t have much of a choice if Johnny Rich isn’t here, and he love Bob Armstrong to be the referee, “Bullet” signs the contract. Its official fans, this Monday for the National Heavyweight Title, “Wildfire” Tommy Rich versus “Nature Boy” Buddy Landell with “Bullet” Bob Armstrong as special guest referee. === Show Ends === Quick Results 1. Southeastern drops Barry Horowitz and picks up Jeff Sword to reunite The Devils Duo...

Southeastern - Last week Ted Turner and Ron Fuller had clear the air meeting, unfortunately it didn't all go to plan, and it seems the relationship is now at breaking point with Turner ready to pull the plug. Fuller went through the plans for Southeastern and the direction he planned to go with, which Turner didn't agree with. Rumour has it this is possibly the last week on WTBS but who knows. - One of the big issues between the two is a recent talent exchange that has happen, that we will come into place within the next month. Turner was outraged at the trade, and felt it was the wrong move. - Talking of talent trades, Fuller has let up a bit with Bill Watts, who haven't seen eye to eye on a few occasions, work together, firstly Steve Lombardi came in for Tracy Smothers and one more bigger talent exchange. Fuller is quoted as saying "Me and Watts have different ideas on how this business should be run, but talent is talent, and a deal was there to be done". - Landell has landed and may quite an impact, look for him to become the premium talent in the territory, Fuller is big on "The Nature Boy" which has put another stars nose out of joint. - Talking of Landell, he and The Heavenly Bodies will be working up north on the tail end of the Southeastern loop.

I do love this feud, I will have to re-watch on the network, as a kid I had all the Best Of Raw comps and this plays out great on them. I remember really enjoying the ROTT match and then the street fight the next night with the ambulance angle. Looking back this really was the foundation for Austin-McMahon, and I don't know if Bret gets the credit he deserves for his work with Austin and the attitude era. The one question I would ask everyone is, what and when would the blow off have had been? If Bret didn't leave, do we get Bret-Austin at Mania for the title? Or do we wait until Summerslam 98 for it?
-
Can't seem to find it, but has someone got a list of the freelance woman's list?
-
How would it work if he was in Japan?
-
So don't know how I feel about booking Ken Wayne anymore. Thoughts?

In the late 1990s a lot of British guys used to travel over for shows as wrote about in Fanzines and PowerSlam, I'm sure John Lister could shed light on it. Also the early UK PPVs (Capital Carnage, One Night Only) were seen as a big deal even if not great shows, but when they went to having TV tapings in the UK it may of spurred more to travel across the pond to see shows.

Have to agree with Low Blow, some of the best promo work around. It's like a split dream promotion of Dallas and Florida, I wouldn't be surprised if one of the Von Erich suggest running a show at the Sportatorium to Eddie Graham...
-
I have to agree the format of the shows here are so much better to follow. We've spoke a lot about your roster but it's stacked, seems to be up there with Mid South, Florida and Crockett. Through some deals we've done I'm looking forward to Memphis exploding into the premium territory.
-
Everyone getting involved in everyones business it seems in Mid South. It can't go unnoticed the roster here is stella, intrigued to know the outcome of the big show, looks like the heels generally get the rub in the bigger matches, I wonder if we're being played before the big one.
-
I bet Buddy Robert took a hiding in that 10 man. I'm enjoying Crockett becoming the home of the multi man tag match. Also really enjoying you getting into your flow, seems like the foundations have been laid and we're about to go full throttle in the Carolinas...

I have no issues with Celebrities, I personally wouldn't use them. I like the idea of using old timers as judges.
-
Personally I'm happy with whatever, with Ken Lucas retirement I'm simply going to retire him before too long and then "move him to the office". I'm not too interested in celebrities, and for bringing people back like a Thesz unless working week in week out shouldn't be involved in a match, but happy if he's a referee or a judge etc, just not acutally wrestling. Reason being is surely he'd become a roster member for it too mean anything?
-
You have to remember Kev that we don't have every single result from this period, it maybe that for example Ernie Ladd wrestled between June and October but their are no records of them...
-
First 4 corner match in history? Enjoyed the poster and enjoyed the build up "Battle of New Orleans" is good, looking forward to the outcome of the main event.
-
Jeff Sword was just lost in the shuffle? No debate over him being active? Bruno was still appearing and even wrestling the odd time to time up until, I want to say 1986? But with him, Verne, Fritz, Stu Hart they should maybe only be used in there respective home bases, because all were having the odd matches here and there, but in there home bases? You've mentioned Bruno a few times, and suspect it's someone you want to use down the road, maybe explain what you want to do with him, if anything, to help the motion being passed so to speak? On a side note, we need to have a retirement list of sorts? Also someone dies in the next ten days in our game...
-
Could you expand? Would this be people who went away and then came back and we bring them back earlier? Ron Wright as example? Or personalities not involved due to places being closed? Someone in WWF as an example?
