CHARLOTTE TV 06/08 - 06/14 CHARLOTTE. MUST. POSE

I would be shocked if Cena was a Republican or a Trump supporter. Nothing he's said or done would lead me to believe that he was. -
RIP Johnny Walker, aka Mr Wrestling II

Isn't it just as likely that promoters knew and simply didn't care? The business back then was incredibly tolerant of all sorts of deviancy. -

Taylor was one of the guys at the center of the WCW racial discrimination lawsuit. He was also named in Konnan's racial discrimination lawsuit against TNA. -

Hayes would be my guess. Besides the obvious reasons, I think only someone with serious seniority would feel comfortable getting into it with Shawn. -
Is Charlotte Flair the most overpushed WWE wrestler of the century?

In real combat sports, the records that matter are title reign length and number of successful defenses. Of course, the old NWA champions probably had several hundred defenses during their reigns. Speaking of fake records, remember when Charlotte being undefeated on PPV was a thing? It was especially ludicrous because she lost title matches on Raw all the time. -
Never mind Kross, we need to talk about this dumb shit. That looks frighteningly close to the bump that ended Rick Rude's career. Why would anyone agree to do that? Especially Priest, who isn't exactly a spring chicken.

Comments that don't warrant a thread - Part 4

Looking back, it's pretty striking how many of Baba's major booking decisions were forced on him by outside events. He broke up Jumbo and Tenryu after Choshu returned to New Japan. He strapped the rocket to Misawa after Tenryu jumped to SWS. He broke up Misawa and Kawada after hepatitis ended Jumbo's career. If Baba could be faulted for anything as a booker, it was his tendency to play a pat hand for too long in the absence of external pressure. Come to think of it, the formation of SWS had to be the ultimate blessing in disguise. Not only did it provide the impetus for Misawa's main event push, it allowed Kawada and Kobashi to move up the ranks much faster than they would have with the likes of Yoshiaki Yatsu and The Great Kabuki clogging up the midcard. -

In principle, maybe. In practice, most thigh slaps have the opposite effect by making the moves sound less impactful. 22:57 is an example of thigh slapping done right. Marufuji made it sound like he was swinging a baseball bat. -

I guess Jerry Lawler was a shitty puncher then. In other news, The Greatest Wrestling Match Ever is officially in the can. Dave said on WOR he was told the match was "really, really good" and that it was "two very smart workers working very hard to have the smartest match they possibly could under the circumstances." Make of that what you will. -

Bryan also said that Charlotte being shoehorned into the Mania main event was no big deal because we'd be getting a Becky/Ronda singles match at the next PPV for sure. The blind spot Dave and Bryan have for Charlotte is pretty infuriating. -
Jabronie marks shot themselves into a work.

It'd be nice if some of the talent would speak out instead of stewing privately if it bothers them that much. Standing up for equality and human rights is great and all, but it's an empty gesture if you only do it when there's no cost to you personally. I mean, dragging Gunner is the very definition of punching down.

How mutually intelligible are Brazilian Portuguese and European Portuguese? I think I heard once that they're pretty far apart, kind of like Quebec French vs. European French.

Dave wrote back in 2008 that WWE's system was creating a bunch of Ted DiBiases but no Junkyard Dogs or Jim Duggans (the Mid-South versions of all three, obviously) for them to play off of. Since then, the problem has only gotten worse.

WWE has become TNA. In more ways than one.
-
It's no different from any other sport. Plenty of players and even a few coaches have spoken out even though most of the owners are Trump boosters.

Don't be a Brandi. Be a Cody.

Even WWE lickspittle Ryan Satin is dunking on them for it.

NOAH's Kaito Kiyomiya challenged Okada to a match at the end of their most recent show. Grandstand challenges are obviously nothing new, but they usually take place in magazines and not on shows. A lot of people have been calling for a supershow with all the major promotions once everything opens back up, and if one takes place, that would be one of the marquee matches.

In case anyone has been wondering where Nigel McGuinness has been, it turns out he was one of the guys furloughed.
