    This really died a few minutes after Tenryu was eliminated. It came back a bit when it was down to just Ishikawa on WAR's side. I really wanted him to take out Hashimoto before going down in flames. As fantastic as Tenryu has been in these matches, Ishikawa has been pretty good too. I wouldn't call him great or anything but he has definitely stepped up and been at the level needed from him.

    So is Muta some a kind of dark comedy character? Cause he wrestles like one. No one mentioned Muta tapping Kabuki with worst the worst title belt shots I've ever seen or his goofy toddler run down the aisle. Kabuki is the superior wrestler here. At least his offense and selling doesn't look like a kid playfighting.

    I definitely want to check out more Gino and after that Spoiler match I'm interested in seeing more of him too. Its funny that all these guys I held in such low regard from what I had seen of them in World Class.

    The guy I most look forward to seeing more matches from is Jose Lothario. Who would have thought that a year ago?

    This was the first truly GREAT AJPW tag since Jumbo left. Although I love the WAR/New Japan feud, this was better than anything that has produced thus far this year. Part of that is because every single guy in this match is an all-time talent performing at a high level while still in their physical prime. In the WAR/NJ matches you've got a bunch of guys at varying levels in different stages of their career. I don't have a lot else to say except that I thought Kawada was the best guy here, while Misawa showed why he is one of the best hot tags tin wrestling and I loved the way the two of them and Kawada played the struggle for the big hot tag while Kobashi was trapped in the the submission. MOTY for me at this point, right ahead of Vader/Sting (which I used to not like) and Hansen/Kobashi.

    Flair for the Gold is such a bizarre concept. Flair is great in his role as a sleazy schmoozing host, but wtf is the point? It feels and plays like a parody but I don't know that it is. Why is it so sex-obsessed? Rude makes a comment about going down on women that seems to have flown over everyone else's head here. Flair and Anderson get a striptease? So strange. At the same time I love it for how insane it is.

    Wasn't really feeling this. Gordy looks like he's in pain most of the match and I'm not sure if its legitimate or not. I'll give this a rewatch later.

    Power moves with nothing in between. Dull match, dull challenger.

    This really of felt like it was going to be a time limit draw, something that the MVC are really bad about telegraphing. So I was surprised when it ended how it did. Pretty boring match, but I will say that the best parts were whenever Williams was in. I thought his offense and selling were particularly good and he looked to be working hard and taking pride in his craft in contrast to Gordy who seemed pretty bored and uninvested. It seems like Gordy has been on a decline in the 90s while Williams has been slowly rising. At this point I think its safe to say that they have passed each other by and Williams is the superior worker. I'm looking forward to seeing more of his work, especially without Gordy holding him back.

    I agree with Soup. Heavy Metal seemed kind of pedestrian and rough around the edges but Santo was terrific walking him through this match. His head scissors spots were great and I loved the figure four work from both guys. I'm a bit lower on the match overall, but I I think it was a good title match and I enjoyed it a lot more than most of the lucha thus far this year.

    The more I go through the Yearbooks the more I realize how underrated and great Pillman was. He was super versatile, but I don't here anyone saying that about him. Look at his resume. Great underdog babyface working from underneath in his early WCW run, capable of having a great crusierweight spotfest (with Liger in 92), could have vicious hate filled brawls (with Windham in 91), great as a slimy, cheating, stooging heel in tags and singles. I think you could easily make a case for him as a top 10 American worker for the first half of the 1990s.

    Casas made Jericho look great here. Casas directs traffic and keeps Jericho in line to the point where you can tell Jericho is green by his mannerisms and crowd playing, but Casas keeps all of that as hidden as possible by going through spots and wrestling. Jericho seems better here than he does a few years later in WCW. After the first fall I fell asleep. Tried to rewatch the match from after the first fall and just felt like it was there and that I was falling asleep again.

    At first I read that as Also, I'm glad to see Loss has changed his mind about voting. We differ on lots of things but I always enjoy reading and hearing you talk about wrestling.

    This was great as a continuation and escalation of their previous match. I love that they worked this so that Cactus Jack learned from his fluke win/mauling and brings a new defensive and offensive strategy to this, covering up to block Vader's strikes and bringing the offense early and often. He brings the fire and Vader and Race bring the bumping. This might be the best Cactus ever looked on offense and is easily his best performance to date. Everyone is great here as is the crowd and the booking (at this point). They set Cactus Jack up for a good run near the top...

    Agreed. It gives time to reflect and try to "prove" or "disprove" whatever results we come up with, whether to ourselves or to each other. Doing it every year would make it much more arbitrary and less important.

    To me, there's no point in doing it every year. It would take all the fun and the point of this process away. This is a cool project that I am dedicated to, but would not want to spend my entire wrestling time working on. In fact, I am looking forward to this being over just so that I can focus more on different aspects of wrestling. Every 10 years or 5 years makes sense.

    I think this is a strange claim as their are about 20 Rick Rude matches on the 92 yearbook, which all have threads on this board. If you go through those threads you sou the same people consistently critiquing the matches and Rude's performances. I looked through a chunk of those threads and only see analysis in the Rude matches from the people that voted for Rude in this poll from El-P, Tim Evans, and WingedEagle. Ah, I see what you're saying. You're referring specifically to the people who voted, not just in general. That comes with having a poll like this though. If its a discussion you are going to get more input than if its just a poll where the engagement only has to be at a minimum.

    Vader is a guy that is rising for me. I kinda disliked Vader as a wrestler as I thought he gave his opponents too much and was overrated. I've sinced changed my mind, even though I still feel he gives his opponents too much, he does a great job using that to build drama when he turns the match back around his way.

    He carried JYD to some really good stuff. That's a feather in his cap. I don't think Reed had a long enough run as an elite worker to rank high on my list, but he will rank. Probably one of the better street fight wrestlers.
