  1. McMahon does the "Well, well, well" that Gertner would use later on. Vince's three piece suits make him a natural heel enough and then we see he is wearing the USWA title around his waist. He's not a wrestler but Vince in Memphis is making a case in my mind as the best heel of the year. Lawler in WWF probably wins but again another reason why I love this feud.
  2. September was a popular month for suspensions as Rick Steiner and Doink were nailed too. Diesel and Shawn bully the Kid for no reason here and attack him. I was half expecting Razor to make the save instead of Perfect.
  3. So smart of the Steiners to agree to the stipulations of this match. Though with these match rules you would expect the teams to be feuding for many months. I wonder what the piledriver business is though as it was not a move the Steiners used that frequently unless they are counting Scott's Screw driver. The Quebecers have an all time one of the best entrance themes. Rick does a comical splash off the middle ropes where they do not even bother do do the knees up block as Rick just lands on Quebecers lower legs and sells it. Love the tag move with Jacques trying to turn Rick over for the Boston crab and Pierre coming off the middle ropes with a leg drop on Rick. Jacques can then turn the weakened Rick over. More mental brilliance by Scott as he gets disqualified for using a hockey stick in front of the referee and they lose the belts. Cheap way for a title change but the Steiners deserved it!
  4. I was totally thinking a King of the Ring tournament early round match when I watched this! Kid went flying into the guard rail on a flip off the top rope. Then goes splat a few seconds later on another dive to the outside. Nice face versus face match for WWF. Some really good back and forth exchanges between the two. Respect after match for each other sets up them as a tag team. WWF is in need of some tag teams.
  5. Well that is not going to make Rude happy. Rick goes to hit Rhodes with a chair but Flair who was doing commentary interferes. Rhodes rolls up Rude to become new US Champion. Having gone back and watched 92 Rude does suck to see injuries catch up to him. Could have added so much more to mid 90's WCW.
  6. Shockmaster is now a big goof and a klutz. Talking a bunch of nonsense and spilling a drink over Tony. Not the greatest hype for a guy in a WarGames but they probably did not have much choice after the Clash events.
  7. They are getting a lot of use out of the green screen in studio. More Lawler trying to explain his act on WWF TV as Vince uses bodyguards during commentating for WWF to protect himself from Jerry. Lawler does not ever remember the Indians winning. Must sting for him to say that as Cleveland Indians fan.
  8. That is a lot of brown Vince is wearing. McMahon calls Jerry the King of the cheaters. He does not like Lawler taking advantage of poor Giant Gonzales with the use of a fireball. Vince is sending the undefeated Tatanka to Memphis. Vince is so good in this role.
  9. Lawler with harsh words for Doink since he did not deliver at Summerslam. Was too soon to be turning Doink unless they were thinking Borne was not going to be sticking around.
  10. Gorilla Monsoon mentions Luger has fulfilled every one of his promises of the Call For Action campaign except winning the WWF Title. Well that was the biggest damn thing! They are still celebrating in locker room until Borga interrupts. He is not impressed with Luger. Neither am I. Well, more so the booking.
  11. Bruise Brothers keep the titles as Sullivan interferes for the disqualification. They need another heel team if Bodies are not going to have the belts.
  12. Delray has completed all Cornette's coloring books. Jim looking forward to being new commissioner so he can rid of all the Armstrongs from Smokey Mountain. Bullet Bob taking a big risk in his desire to get rid of Cornette since he does not know who is opponent will be. Segment ends with Cornette looking for his copy of the Observer! Now Funk has a Skull and Crossbones image across the screen during his promo. They are going all out with the special effects for his promos.
  13. Jay looked terrified to be interviewing Hansen.
  14. Takayama is not the most proficient is getting the single leg and Boston crab submissions on. His balance does be off at times. But he is very determined and pays off with finally being able to sit back and get the submission win. I liked that he would not give up on getting the submission.
  15. Smothers will be back from injury shortly. He has a rematch with Lee but Dirty White Boy will be locked in a cage. A September to Remember says Smothers. Six feet Eight do not be late! Tracey with the rhymes.
  16. Tommy Rich dressed up all nice doing his promo in a bathroom. Ah, he has a reason to be there. He is ready to flush Jeff Jarrett down the toilet. Jarrett now wearing his Double J ring gear. Rich attacks Jarrett while he was doing an interview and works on the ribs. I wonder who has the worst kicks. Paul Bearer or Bert Prentice.
  17. Jerry glosses over the particulars of how he won match at Summerslam but declares himself the true King of Wrestling. More great stuff from Vince. Trying to get the people of Memphis to turn on Jerry and see him the way everyone else does outside the territory. McMahon promises a big problem for Lawler with Giant Gonzales. Tough task for Lawler to get a match out of that guy.
  18. Do folks from Finland dress like John Cena? He finds a run down alley as an example to talk bad about America. Mentions Lex Luger. My buddy would rave about this Borga segments.
  19. The spin on this is amazing. Summerslam was the thrill of a lifetime for Lex. A honor to represent USA and challenge for the Title. You did not win the Title! Vince mentions that Yokozuna retained Title and Lex has this awkward chuckle as a response. Like no shit I look like an idiot smiling and celebrating a count out win.
  20. Williams has done a good job in these matches with Kobashi/Misawa. Getting away from the Gordy tag matches is refreshing for me. Kobashi took three Backdrop Drivers to be put away so Misawa surviving was okay. They weren't as vicious as the ones Kobashi took either. Misawa was ruling with the forearms in cutting off Williams as much as possible.
  21. WWF was just going to let DiBiase fade away? He was such a bigger character for them and as a heel they should played up some angle with him leaving like a loser leaves town. Anyways, days after Summerslam in he is in Japan and quickly wins tag titles with Hansen. That spike piledriver attempt didn't go well. Ted looked so low key not being in the Million Dollar Man gimmick.
  22. Speaking of house show attendances for this time, I couldn't help but notice that Hogan and Beefcake at the Boston Garden only drew 3,500 on June 26th. Down from 5,800 for Flair/Hart in January and 6,000 for Hart & Perfect vs Ramon/Luger in March. There is the drop for Hogan before picking up slightly (4,800) for Hart/Yokozuna in September. People were not excited for Hogan's return. Bret/Shawn get questioned as draws but not sure anyone would be drawing in WWF/WCW during this time period.
  23. This was one of the first AJPW matches I saw so I definitely had it ranked pretty high on initial viewing. Having watch way more of AJPW since then it is just naturally not going to be viewed as great as I thought. Hansen/Kobashi was so much better than this. I still love the finishing part of this match but I do agree they should have removed the second backdrop driver from this with Kobashi scampering around the ring trying to get to ropes. The first and third versions were perfectly fine. The one with him landing straight on top of his head is pretty sick though. Still think it is one of the better Williams singles matches to the point before he delivers much stronger in 1994.
  24. This segment went on too long. Problem with these things with Gilbert in ECW is he is not really getting any feuds over. He does go on a rant about Jerry Lawler and the feud in WWF over who is the King.
  25. Well I'm glad he does not have the spit coming out of his mouth like in WCW but I still find Hansen in the States to be somewhat comical from the real bad ass that he was in Japan.
