Kevin Ridge replied to Loss's topic in August 1993
I'll have to try check out the full match sometime. We get some really good action from what is shown. Some exciting near falls.- 8 replies

Bad timing on Pillman's injury with the Blondes have a good run as tag champs. Did his injury warrant the title change or was it planned in advance?

There is no mention in these segments who he is currently feuding with unless we count Jay Sullie. The guy Gilbert got to be the next announcer is either a really good actor or someone messed up bad.

Yeah, I wanted the upset match in full but we do get to see the finish from clip from highlights. And I think it was a finish that worked so perfectly with a super arrogant DiBiase trying to pin someone like 123 Kid by just lying back. This match was average but again DiBiase can't beat The Kid. Coming to the end of his in ring run in WWF.

I was hoping for more use of the rackets by the lumberjacks on the outside. That first piledriver looked really great. Bob gives Cornette another to finish him off. Cornette does the full stretcher job with the neck brace applied. Right into an ambulance too! All this happens to Bad to the Bone playing.

War Games gets ripped off a lot. Just the one ring. Morton is of course one of the first guys in and to get blood. Cage does not look sturdy but it is able to handle guys getting thrown into it. Getting crowded in the ring which is good as disguising the Bruise Brothers but makes it hard to focus on some of the others. Scott Armstrong has the spectacular entry to match by hitting the four members of Cornette's team with a low blow each. No room for Cornette to hide with everyone in there. He is toast once Bullet Bob gets a hold of him. Everyone is happy.

Yeah, Smothers choice of word towards Lee was a bit perplexing. It's not like Lee plays up an effeminate gimmick/character. Must have been they first thing that popped into his head. Liked this a bit better than their previous match. Was some slow spots when Lee was in control. He does take some good bumps from Tracey though. Good stuff going for the the glove on the pole.

[1993-08-14-WWF-Superstars] Face to Face: Shawn Michaels and Razor Ramon
Kevin Ridge replied to Loss's topic in August 1993
Diesel gets a few words in for Razor. You would think Perfect versus Michaels completely dropped off the face of the earth. -
[1993-08-14-USWA-TV] Interview: Jerry Lawler & Jeff Jarrett
Kevin Ridge replied to Loss's topic in August 1993
The backdrop of fire and explosions battling with Jarrett's very pink ring gear. Agreed on getting to see MSG match before. You think it would be Lawler just cutting a promo about kicking ass at a house show but from what we see he is telling the truth. -
I like how this promo followed up Cage match with Bret/Yoko on set. Bret goes from being sympathetic in losing that match to being such a meanie talking about Lawler and Memphis fans. Being able to pop into Memphis and go heel must have been refreshing for the WWF guys.

[1993-08-13-WWF-MSG, NY] Bret Hart vs Yokozuna (Cage)
Kevin Ridge replied to Loss's topic in August 1993
To me big heavy guys are at a big disadvantage in cage matches. I do like the big run up Yokozuna does for his high impact movies like elbow drop and leg drop. Corner charge too. Someone like Bret has good timing at getting out of the way at the last second. Great spot where Yoko sets Bret up for the Banzai but it's in the corner near the cage door and Bret almost manages to sneak out underneath Yoko. Selling by Yoko is great when he gets crotched on the middle rope and when he misses a big splash. Lawler interferes in match. Hey, Bret did it first in his! There is less cage climbing in match with Yoko's size so the escape spots are built more around the door. I really thought this was pretty darn excellent of a match. A top WWF match of the year. So much better than their WrestleMania matches. Yoko squishes Bret after match with Banzai for good measure. Yoko is looking like a total beast. -
[1993-08-13-WWF-MSG, NY] Jerry Lawler vs Randy Savage
Kevin Ridge replied to Loss's topic in August 1993
Macho Midget is still around. Another performance by Lawler where he picks apart his opponent. Totally dominates Savage. Macho gets a flurry of punches and Lawler takes a huge bump over the top rope to the outside. Crowd was popping big for that. King back in control after as Bret Hart shows up. Very complaining 1997 type Bret. He ends up attacking Lawler in the ring. What a poor sport! Lawler happily takes the DQ victory. Big tease of a fight between Savage and Hart after. Savage may have been underused by Vince but I wish Lawler had got pushed more. He was getting big heat.- 13 replies

Cornette spends most of the time on the ring apron. Bullet Bob charges after Cornette any time he steps in the ring illegally. More of a standard two on two tag match with the Bodies and Armstrong kids. Cornette does get more involved when he manages. He finally gets in at the end and takes a beating (including Flair flip in the corner) before the Bruise Brothers interfere. Bob goes nuts with a baseball bat after. He was swinging for the fences there.

[1993-08-13-SMW-Hot August Night in Mo-Town] Tracy Smothers vs Brian Lee
Kevin Ridge replied to Loss's topic in August 1993
All the women in attendance hate Tammy. Smothers does Hogans four sides of audience pose to see which section he will throw his Confederate bandana to. Didn't think much of this though didn't hate it. Was just there for me. I like Smothers but Lee for the most part does grab me. They bring a miner's glove into end of the match. I did like Lee's big bugged eyed reaction when Smothers put the glove on. At least they are trying to show that you wouldn't want to get hit with a one of those which it just looks like a regular glove. -
[1993-08-13-AAA-Sin Limite] El Hijo del Santo vs Heavy Metal
Kevin Ridge replied to Loss's topic in August 1993
They were teasing so many count outs following dives during the match that I was expecting it be part of the finish. Felt like a last man standing type match. -
Some that come to mind: -Start 80's Lucha set and try to watch a couple matches a week. I jumped in way too fast on AWA set to where once I finished I had no clue how to rank anything. Just need to be able to take better notes/rank stuff as I go. Those history bios by OJ will be great for when I finally watch matches. -Set my TV/internet up so I can watch things on my TV instead of my computer. This should open me to watching more stuff. -Watch at least one full episode of NXT -Watch some current NJPW to see what the big deal is -Sign up for WWE Network -Go to at least one live show. I managed to go to two big WWE PPVs this past year but I was a bit underwhelmed by the shows itself. Thinking maybe I should try a house show this time around. -Watch more from Portland -Catch up on my WWE Blu Ray/DVDs -Create better catalog of the stuff I own -Continue to watch Yearbooks -Work through other 80's stuff such as Memphis and Texas -Figure out how to listen to podcasts more as I'm falling behind on Titans and lots other shows out there I want to listen to -Jerry Lawler

[1993-08-13-UWFi-Fight of Champions] Vader vs Kazuo Yamazaki
Kevin Ridge replied to Loss's topic in August 1993
I like Yamazaki having the guts to attack Vader early on with a flurry of kicks. He had Vader off balance there for a few. Vader stops it with a well times right hand to knock down Yamazaki. Pro wrestling heavy sequence with Yamazaki breaking a chokehold with elbows and a snap mare. Vader squashes him good with a chokeslam to finish it. Vader as a monster. The way he should be booked. -
[1993-08-13-UWFi-Fight of Champions] Yoji Anjo vs Naoki Sano
Kevin Ridge replied to Loss's topic in August 1993
Big difference on the mat between these two and Takayama/Lydick that was shown before. Couple minor stuff I didn't like such as Sano letting go of the STF even though Anjo hadn't reached ropes yet. Pretty good overall though and I love the cross face chickenwing as a finisher.- 10 replies

[1993-08-13-UWFi-Fight of Champions] Gene Lydick vs Yoshihiro Takayama
Kevin Ridge replied to Loss's topic in August 1993
Takayama is going to the same barber that cuts Otani’s hair. I don’t know who this Lydick guy is but he gets Takayama up for a German suplex. Takayama responds with multiple knees. Another dead lift suplex by Lydick. Quick pace during this. Lydick looks like a bigger AJ Styles. I thought both guys were kind of clumsy on the leg work compared to others in this style. But we end up getting a finish based around a leg submission. -
[1993-08-09-WWF-Raw] Contract Signing: Lex Luger and Yokozuna
Kevin Ridge replied to Loss's topic in August 1993
McMahon and Heenan are doing commentary in person while hosting the contract signing. Here's Cornette and he's the new American spokesman for Yokozuna. Patterson is wearing his trusty white sneakers. Brother Love (not in gimmick) is one of the suits in the back. The contract gets signed and Cornette is quick to point out that there is a clause included if Luger does not win the title he will never get another shot at Yoko. Luger winning seems like a definite. Yoko's brow sweat flip at Luger's face was funny. Lex gives a pretty fired up promo. -
I do give them credit for having to turn Luger so quickly and try to forget the Narcissist gimmick. Luger talks about some of his struggles in college and football and how he was able to overcome.
