  1. Great stuff. Definitely felt genuine.
  2. Gilbert dropping the Philly sports athletes references. Some of the royal subjects don't seem to know who King Gilbert is.
  3. Empty arena but there was someone popping into camera view in the back over Luger's shoulder. Big build continues for Luger towards him winning title.
  4. I loved when Sato tried to do the running up the ropes into an armdrag but botches the climbing portion. He still hits the armdrag and then scuffs the mat with his foot like the problem was with his boots. The arm wringer spot always gets a good laugh out of me. I didn’t realize it was a Southern spot though. Fun stuff.
  5. Had me thinking back to when Love Machine lost his mask in that match when he did a Tombstone for DQ. He's just as dumb here with continuing to pull his opponent up at the two count pinning attempt during the match. What a weird DQ in that he didn't actually Tombstone Panther. I had no clue Love Machine was the face in the match.
  6. I like that Smothers downfall was that even with his title on the line he was going to do his best to spank Tammy. Might not what to sit there and wait for crowd approval though. We get a interesting finish where Smothers hits an atomic drop on Lee who has his momentum bounce him off the ropes and comes back with the armed fist.
  7. Apparently some of these dolls got pulled from stores as they were making inappropriate comments about sticking a digit in chicks dressed up like Ricky Morton.
  8. Gorilla is now wearing a big Lex Luger button on his jacket. But he lays off his on the attacking of President Tunney from previous Update. Tunney makes his big announcement over the telephone with Vince McMahon. No coming out and talking for 20 minutes. President brings up Fuji having issues with Luger's forearm but the match is a go! However, Luger must wear a forearm pad to cover up the steel plates. Lex thanks the fans for all their support.
  9. Legitimate fireworks to start the match as they go off in the sky above the ring. Big flip dive by Sasuke off the ropes to the outside. Then I'm kind of fading in and out during middle part of match. Didn't feel like I was missing anything from what I'd see from these guys before. Pretty good action last part of match though and did get me back. Did like like post match celebration as really played up how big the win was. Winning matters in wrestling!
  10. I was just thinking the other day about how Lawler had such memorable feuds in the 90's alone from what we have seen in yearbooks. You really can make the case he had the best feuds with different opponents of 1990, 1992 and 1993. Stuff like that really does boost his case as one of the best in my eyes. The ECW stuff was great in 97 but Harts/Austin/Michaels was bigger for me. I hope to revisit 1995 at some point. Really looking really forward to seeing his stuff from 70's and 80's.
  11. I was such a huge fan of Kurt Angle for his first couple years in WWF. Thing is, I was just as much into his character than him as a wrestler. Loved the Three I's he would also spout about and thought his comedic timing on the mic was fantastic. Was super funny with Edge & Christian and also with Austin though I don't think that was the best role for Steve at the time. The guy gave me a lot of laughs. Also during that first year, people were really into that triangle love affair with Stephanie and HHH. I'd go to PPV viewing parties and half if not more of the people there were female. As far as him as a wrestler, I've never really had problems with his style like other folks do. I thought his arrival was perfectly timed along with the Radicalz and Jericho getting pushed more. While the Attitude crash TV stuff continued you were getting better matches on shows compared to the year before. I remember at the time really enjoying his matches with Benoit and Jericho. His match with Rock at No Way Out was great and I thought the Ankle lock was great addition to his arsenal. I've read folks loved his match with Austin at Summerslam but I'm not as high on it due to all the referee stuff. Match with Mysterio was a wonderful opener for that Summerslam. I really, really like his match with a debuting John Cena in 2002. It could be the wonders of post production for a taped Smackdown but that is one of my favorite John Cena matches. I still followed WWE during 2002 through 2005 but my interest would decline as the period went on. Actually started with Smackdown first so I didn't see a whole lot of the "Smackdown Six" as it was happening. I was able for revisit it a few years later and for the most part enjoyed what I saw. Didn't think it was the greatest thing but there was enough good matches to keep me entertained. The tag match at No Mercy 2002 was excellent from when I last watched it. Angle is very similar to Michaels for me. I think both guys are great at bringing drama to their matches. It maybe overdone at times for both but I always felt when you are watching a live match of theirs on a big stage you had the chance to get something very exciting. Used to go to a Sports/Gaming venue that would show WWE PPVs and the people in attendance would always be going crazy for them. That WrestleMania match between the two had people going insane. My days as a regular watcher stopped for good in 2005. As much as I did like Angle, I didn't care to follow him over to TNA when he moved there. I didn't like him as much in 2004-06 from what I saw. Maybe the criticisms of his ring style are there but just from a character point he had done so many face/heel changes, I didn't care anymore. I wanted to go back and look at Angle's matches to see if criticisms were valid but I just have so many other viewing projects going on. It's not so much seeing him versus Benoit or Guerrero but I wanted to see his matches against other people outside the Smackdown Six to see what is out there.
  12. You had a Japanese Santa? I do appreciate the salt being thrown in matches but still didn't think it was enough for Yoko to beat Bret at WrestleMania 9. My parents would really do up Christmas though. Leaving out the snacks and sherry for Santa when he arrived. The salt threats was all about us kids not walking downstairs to see my parents being shitfaced from the sherry and making a ton of noise while putting the presents under the tree.
  13. Santa never brought me wrestling related presents. I think the closest I've come to wrestling was my parents telling me as a kid that Santa would throw salt in my eyes if I saw him delivering presents on Christmas Eve.
  14. Like Matt D, I was also in attendance for Benoit versus Angle at Royal Rumble. I was going absolutely nuts while watching it live. It has to be my favorite match I've ever seen live from an excitement level. Can't remember thinking about Benoit's sharpshooter or there being too many German suplexes at the time. I'll admit it wasn't as outstanding on multiple viewings after but still a pretty darn good match to me. Strangely, I also don't have the desire to re-watch it at this time and been a few years since I've seen it last. The match might have been the last real time I was into a WWE match as my interest in the product lessened from 2003 on.
  15. Gilbert isn’t above spending time with his subjects of Philadelphia. Paul E calls everyone Vinny who works at the Greek pizza place. Eddie enjoys a slice of pizza.
  16. Those sources are wrong. That's a really common inaccuracy. It also got ****3/4 in the WON. I took a look at my PWI Almanac but they of course don't list the date. Wonder if that has led to confusion. Can't find anything that lists the May match as the winner.
  17. Savage and Heenan argue over who has the best weekend C show. Money Inc have got themselves another shot at the Tag Titles. DiBiase calls Ramon a loser which draws out Razor. I thought Razor had already turned faced with the reaction he was getting from the crowd when he came down. I think it was a tough face turn to do with losing to Kid and then putting up the money for rematches. Crowd wanted to get behind the guy though and good choice to have him get issues with DiBiase who has been a strong heel going back to 87 in WWF. Razor does'nt have a price for DiBiase. Ted wants to take out his frustration on the Kid for all this.
  18. I had though this won PWI match of the year but sources online say the May match won. Michaels looks so big compared to most of the rest of his career. Jannetty wins the title though Michaels had his foot on the ropes. More great officiating from Hebner. They go right to commercial though which is dubious timing and of course when we come back the match has resumed. Match had been really good up to the false finish. Jannetty misses big on a cross body and flies over the top rope to floor. He probably would have counted out anyways. Both their TV matches have been good and another strong performance by Jannetty. I’d much rather watch these two wrestle again at Summerslam than have Perfect involved.
  19. Apparently it was uncool in 93 to be patriotic. Luger wants to change that by driving around in an uncool bus. They are putting big effort in by having a whole press conference and stuff. Got to get me one of those shirts.
  20. This was such a great sell for the Triple Crown match later in month. Fuchi and Akiyama did their job but I was loving Misawa and Kawada going crazy on each other. What an exchange between he two and crowd was getting so psyched each time they got in the ring against not another. Looking forward to Triple Crown match after this.
  21. Vader squashes Bulldog with a Vaderbomb and then follows it up with a Moonsault! Sting makes a big running dive down ramp to make save. Bulldog ends up pining Vader shortly after which made the Moonsault useless for a such a big move.
  22. Too bad about the match. There stuff is the previous six man tag looked good. Really bad finish here with Windham getting pinned in the figure four but looked like he got his shoulders up.
  23. First couple minutes in and Roma has already got more ring time than that six man previously that included Flair and Windham also. I like the spots with Arn, who has been around the block, using the hair on a headlock take down of Pillman and pretending to shake hands with Austin before kicking him in the stomach. Roma tags back in a makes a mess out of a backslide. Pillman is showing a lot of cheek but doesn’t fix his tights. I so miss Jesse on commentary. He and Tony get in a debate on the over the top rule as Anderson suplexed Austin over the top to the outside but there was no DQ. Was thinking how it would be funny to me if the finishing tag team move for Anderson/Roma was Paul missing a clothesline but Arn connecting with the spinebuster on the running opponent. Pillman makes a very close save! I didn't feel like it dragged but the lack of heat at times was very noticeable.
  24. I like Ross making the argument since you can’t see Mr. Hughes eyes behind the sunglasses that it makes him more unpredictable. Marty goes for a headscissors outside and Hughes just drops him over the steel railing. Best Hughes singles match but that all comes down to Jannetty. He made Hughes looking like a monster just bumping off him. Marty throws everything at Hughes in the end before being caught in a powerslam. Marty had some excellent matches in 93 and early 94. He didn't seem to have much of a singles push though after dropping the IC title back to Shawn.
  25. I’m wondering if stomping on your opponents foot is considered poor sportsmanship in these type of matches. Anjo got a reversal off it though. Big rush of kicks at the end by Yamazaki.
